    I also hate how I see videos where girls are like: “Look how ugly I am without makeup but just wait till I put makeup on!” It makes me feel weird because I don’t wear makeup because my skin is sensitive but also it’s not something I think about… But seeing videos where girls call their natural state ugly and it’s so normalized is so weird to me. Yess, thank you so much for saying this! I've felt like this for years but I could never put it into words, or realize that it was tied to my low self esteem and sense of unworthiness. I've always liked emo and goth makeup, and also flowery flamboyant makeup from the 60s-70s but I have always felt like it doesn't look right on me. Almost like I'm too ugly to wear it, my face is too fat, my eyelids are weird, my nose is too wide, I don't look feminine enough (ridiculous i know) etc. I'm mexican and chubby too so only seeing skinny white girls and women wear it made me feel like I almost wasn't allowed to wear it because in my head I would stick out and look ugly in it. Also I didn't wear it for a while because I was afraid it would make me feel even more insecure when I took it off. So I get what you mean. I'm working on trying bolder makeup looks even if they make me feel self conscious that people are looking at me and judging. I don't have a lot of practice but ill figure it out1. I really love bold eye makeup, I need to stop beating myself up and just wear it already.

    I was just talking with my mom on the phone literally this morning about this. We were talking about how pre-pandemic, we were both wearing a ton more makeup, but once everyone started masking and we didn't bother to put on makeup bc our faces would be covered, we got used to our makeup-less faces and now we don't feel the need to wear makeup in public nearly as much. I've given up on foundation, and I rarely even wear concealer. If I wear makeup, I literally just wear eyeliner, maybe some eyeshadow, and mascara. Then sometimes I'll add blush over just my bare, natural skin, and maybe some highlighter. If I'm really going for it, lipstick can be fun. But day to day, I literally just do eyeliner and mascara. I don't like the way foundation looks on my skin either. I find it accentuates all the things I'd like it to cover up so I prefer to just rock my natural skin and the makeup I do wear is for self-expression. I want to add personal touches to my face, not take away from it. I find this makeup philosophy very freeing.

    I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with beauty. I don't understand this "everyone is beautiful" trend. Because honestly, not everyone is beautiful, not everyone can be beautiful. But that doesn't mean that people who are not beautiful deserve any less respect or have less value. It doesn't mean that they can't be successful or wealthy or happy. People should be judged on their talents and skills and what they offer to the society and not by good looks.
    I think it's like being wealthy. Some people are rich, most are not but we don't repeatedly say "everyone is rich" because it's not true. We accept the fact and try to do the best we can with what we have.

      I think that beauty is subjective while being rich (money wise) is not. Therefore, everyone can be beautiful since you can be beautiful to one person but not another. Even though there are people who are considered "conventionally attractive", they are still not attractive to everyone objectively. However, not everyone can be rich because you have to fall into a certain socioeconomic category that is based on how easily you can support yourself and the actual net worth that allows you to fall into that category.

    • @asp861
      @asp861 Před rokem +110

      @@TheSroy133 I think ' being wealthy ' is subjective too. A person living in a slum who is below poverty line would think that someone with a stable job, house, car, etc; is rich but the person with stable job would consider a business or an actor who earns in millions is rich. A businessman would not think a normal person with a stable job is rich. Ofcourse there are certain standards defined by government that categorise people in different socioeconomic classes but still everyone's idea of how much of wealth is enough for them is different.

    I love the artistry of makeup. But I do wish people weren't shamed into wearing it. It should be embraced as a form of self expression, not forced on to cover "errors"....and certainly people who do use makeup should not be shamed for that either. Imagine shaming someone for a haircut...oh wait people do that too whenever a woman cuts her hair short 🙄

    • @alexforce9
      @alexforce9 Před rokem +6

      There are two problems - first - "the artistry of makeup" - the vast majority of women who use make up dont do it to express the artist within. Very few actually do something interesting and creative with make up. The majority just try to look more attractive. To hide bad skin, to make their eyes more visible, to create illusion for having high cheekbones. Short hair on women - pretty simple - short hair is like a magnifying glass for your face. So if you are not literally model looking - its not gonna do you any favors. If your nose is on the bigger side - its gonna look huge. Eyes a bit too far apart - will look like 10 miles apart. Long hair softens the features and gives a frame to the face.

    • @xani_was_taken
      @xani_was_taken Před rokem +21

      @@alexforce9 please understand that artistry does not mean only doing fancy art stuff. Hiding blemishes and enhancing features you like is also art. People don't need to do anything "interesting" with makeup unless they want to. Jusy like people don't need to wear fancy clothes unless they want to. Being able to cover a blemish that suddenly appeared or make your lips look poutier also requires skill.
      Not sure why you are harping about short hair. A lot of the issues with short hair come from sexism and the expectation for women to have a certain look. Short hair can be rocked by many different faces and has many different styles. I'd argue that short hair looks better than boring long hair cut the same way.
      Anyways your two problems dont seem to be problems considering what artistry refers to and the diversity of short hair cuts available lollll.

I think that what started as a good intentioned thing lost its meaning. It wasn’t ‘see? I completely agree! One of the main reasons I don't wear much makeup is because if I get complimented on my looks, I want it to be on my natural features, not the ones I pasted on with makeup. I like using light makeup to highlight or slightly enhance the features I do have, not giving myself features I don't actually have like sharp cheekbones or plump lips. However, I'm aware this reasoning isn't for everyone, so to each their own.

      @@zt8065 I too feel that people feel cheated but when kylie jenner sadi her lips were only because of overlining and her lip kit, then people are simply fooling themselves. We like to simply blaim others because that is easy.
      Ex: let's say a celebrity brings a skincare line and says that is the secret of her good skin, like really? Did you made this thing 5,10 years ago and was waiting till today to release it. If it was 2000's I would be more sympathetic towards people blindly believing in what celebs say. But not now when everything is out there.
      People are frustrated because they wholeheartedly want to believe that this one thing will solve their skin/beauty/life problems and when that doesn't happens then they have to find someone else to blame.
      I will cite one more example, I am not able to remember the name but in a vogue skincare routine there was this girl she said she uses sugar and lemon mixture that her manager mixed for her and that she was keeping for over a week. And guess what people believe it.

    This is such an interesting conversation because growing up, I had cousins who told me I should get into makeup to be more "girly" but I always focused on my natural face (skincare) because my mom always taught me your natural beauty is beautiful. But I always thought well I am obviously not "pretty enough" if I should be wearing makeup so when I tried to learn, the makeup people would ask why do I want to wear it when I don't need it. It was conflicting things back & forth until I finally wore it for prom almost 7 years ago, my face hated it, its itchy. I tried it again a few years ago and its still the same thing. I love watching people put on makeup because it makes them feel good, just like skincare does for me. Of course, ppl are going to look different when they put it on and take it off. I feel people should do what makes them feel good and also stop worrying about "glass looking" or "bare" face skin because you will get blemishes, zit, etc no matter how much you try to keep it looking "natural".

    Thanks for making this video! I think all of us needed this! Many people wear make-up, they do look prettier, not always, but over-using it or wearing it just to hide their pimples, we have learnt to know that no one's perfect, it's okay to have acne, that's what everyone has at some stage of their life, I don't hate on people who wear make-up, just a little reminder that every single person is beautiful in its own way! Don't be insecure about the way you look, don't compare yourself with anybody else, you don't know what's their true story behind their "perfect" skin, body and a lot more. Also, filters aren't solution, you might look prettier, but why would you use it? Just because you want to show the world that you also have a perfect skin and body, please, don't be fooled by any IG reels, TikTok videos, where the person in the video looks neat, you never know what's the truth behind that. Appreciate your skin and whole body, you're special! Sending you all so much love! ❤️

As someone who wears makeup all the time because it is fun and a hobby, rather than a enhancement of my visuals, i am really grateful you mentioned this side as well. The amount of patronizing ´au natural´ people who comment on my makeup is sometimes so exhausting. Even better when they use backhanded compliments like "Wow, I could never go out with such a colorful look". Like bruh good for you, but what does that have to do with me? I just wanna be happy in my little looks and stop hearing all this fake positivity speeches about how i should be more confident without makeup, because even a long time ago when i have used it to get a ´glow up´ these speeches did nothing for me. The only thing that helped me is my own self acceptance.

As someone who has barely any makeup skills and therefore goes barefaced everywhere, I've never thought of how other people might view that. My "full face" is just a bit of concealer, eyeliner, mascara, and/or lipstick. I've corrected people who see my bare face and assume it's makeup. I never really paid attention to the commentary around this and now it feels like I'm the strange one when I go out without anything on. It's really concerning that this has become so normal

    This has been a subject of insecurity for me. I'm 20& I have never been in such an occasion to feel like wearing a makeup( i know it doesn't sound right but yes it's true). Only recently, I had such opportunity and I was freaking out. I had makeup to purchase I had to learn how to wear them. On the event date, I wear the lip liner and the light lipstick which you'd notice lily depp rocking at many occasions. I did apply this blush over my sunscreen using this trick i learnt on Instagram and that was it. I felt cute anyway. Since I've never really done much, anything can feel dramatic or too extra for me. I'm in this stage where i do want to learn how to do makeup and esp eye makeup (those girls draw on eyes like they're creating art) but i also want to develop a healthy relationship with it. When to wear, when not to because this no-makeup makeup look also causes insecurity, and shame. Makes me feel self conscious and not want to click pictures. As I'd rather not..maybe with respect to the time I've to prep before going out or for an event i should and shouldn't wear makeup. It is going to be a hard line to walk upon.
