    We have annual passes. We never stay on property. Not paying that ridiculous parking fee. We do book hotel several months out. We stay somewhere with free parking and free breakfast. We get free parking at Universal with my husband's pass. We always go during the week when there are low crowds. Our next trip is the week following Mother's Day for my oldest son's 9th birthday. Also, we always drink water at restaurants. It's free and it saves a ton over time. I carry a refillable water bottle and I carry snacks for my growing boys, which saves us lots on food.

    Theme park food is always pricey but I found out that there isn’t a large difference in table service prices and quick service at universal. My family of four had lunch for around 70 dollars at both toothsome and hard rock but chose a quick service lunch at the captain America place to save a few bucks on the last day- for burgers and fries and drinks it was 60+ - so we should have gone for a table service. Not sure if helps with saving but I would have been happier paying 70 for a higher quality meal

    • @ThePughTwo
      @ThePughTwo  Před 2 lety +2

      Oh we’ve definitely noticed the same! We typically share 1 or 2 quick service meals or snacks throughout the day (without drinks bc of the freestyle cup) and then eat a good sized dinner. There are definitely places where you can get “swindled” in the theme parks and the food courts tend to be the worst!

    When we went for a week in October, I used Target delivery to get groceries delivered to the hotel, which got us easy meals, breakfast stuff (instant oatmeal, protein pancakes in a cup, Toaster Strudels), snacks & Gatorade + water! I carried in my own water bottles because I didn't know about the free water, but also Florida water can be kinda... Gross 😂 the biggest cost for us was the flight from Hawaii, which luckily was a 10 direct flight, at $600 for two people.

I stayed at a Westgate hotel in Kissimmee with a manned security gate & the delivery driver texted me when they arrived, I met them at the lobby. This was a big saver, as I did not rent a car & used Lyft to get around (which still gets pricy over a week stay!). We had a full kitchen, so we got frozen pizzas & family meals to not eat out every meal! Kid friendly & easily packed snacks are awesome too, we got Kind bars, fruit leather & breakfast shakes too. We also bought ready made subs from the on-site deli to bring into the parks, they were actually super affordable compared to buying a ton of sandwich stuff.

    Another great video! The "book early" tip is one of the best. Our last visit in December was booked almost one year ahead, for Royal Pacific. We got a "value season" rate of $182/night. It was the lowest rate available, and our annual pass discounts could not be used. Some of our companions who booked one month prior paid $315 for the same room. That adds up when you're staying 10 nights! And, during value season, many conventions host their events at the premier resorts. They sometimes fill during slow seasons. Book early! Orlando Informer's "crowd calendar" is a good free resource to find slow seasonal rates. Also, if you're staying on-site, you won't need a rental car. Small trips are cheaper with Uber.

    Regarding the technique of saving money on Express Passes by staying at premier hotels, I wonder if it is possible to save even more by sandwiching your stays. Suppose that you are staying for three nights. The first night is at one of the premier hotels (Hard Rock, Portofino Bay or Royal Pacific). The next night is a stay at either Surfside or Dockside. However, your Express Passes are still good for the day you are staying at the cheaper venue. The following day, you return to the premier hotel and your Express Passes are still good for the next two days. So, 4 days of Express Passes while only staying at the premier hotels for 2 of the 3 nights. There is probably at least a $100 difference between the premier hotels and value hotels per night and perhaps $200 or even $300. That's a substantial amount of butterbeer. I get that it's not convenient to have to pack up every day and take your stuff to the new hotel, but still, $100+ of free butterbeer can make up for a good deal of inconvenience.

    • @ThePughTwo
      @ThePughTwo  Před 2 lety +1

      This is interesting. So the only issue we see with that is you typically get a discount for staying more days at one location. Like right now if we book 5 nights at Hard Rock vs 2 nights the room goes from 503 a night to 398. We like the thinking and it is something that might be able to be done and save all kinds of Butterbeers haha!

      That’s usually a great time to visit! December typically starts pretty slow in December and the gets continuously busier until you get to NYE!

    This came up right as I was making an expenses spreadsheet for my trip in October!! I wish I could stay on-site, but I'll only be 20 by the time of the trip :/

    • @tabsamnic
      @tabsamnic Před 2 lety +3

      That really is unfortunate! A lot of the hotels near partner with universal for transportation and even epa sometimes.

    • @tabsamnic
      @tabsamnic Před 2 lety +1

      Also, as much as we love staying onsite we're considering doing most of our trip off site so we don't have to pay for parking at the hotel. We aren't huge on epa so it isn't a big deal for us.

    You say call Universal and they will set things straight is that only when you book directly through Universal or will they make adjustments if I book through Expedia or whomever?

    • @ThePughTwo
      @ThePughTwo  Před rokem

      That’s only if you book directly through Universal! Which we always suggest doing!

    What is the brand of Fanny pack that you are wearing in the video? I have watched several of your videos - thanks for all the great tips!!

      I’m not sure what the brand is! It’s a really old one that I stole out of my dad’s closet years ago. It’s a good one, though!!

    We actually just visited the parks the first week of February and the jacket potatoes were about $11.50. I’m wondering if prices change seasonally or if they have gone up 🤷‍♀️

      Oh wow.. This footage was taken in January, so that means the prices have went up $2.00 in less than month! 😥

    How much spending money would a father and a 11 year old need per day. Is 250 a day a reasonable number to expect? Flight, tickets, hotel, transportation are paid for.

    • @ThePughTwo
      @ThePughTwo  Před 2 lety

      That sounds reasonable to us! We always budget $100 per person per day, so you’re on track.

    First let me say I love your videos. So much helpful information! And I’m super late on those video but I’m planning on booking my trip from Oct 27-Nov 9. I used the vacation package option and added my express passes for the Halloween weekend and I was wondering if you have any videos with information for people who are booking from out of state/country. Would the Universal vacation package be the best way to go?

      Thank you so much! So whats interesting is we are not from Florida. We live in Tennessee so all the tips that you find on the channel are based off of our personal experience with traveling to the parks!

    Do you think meal plans will be back in time for HHN....OR... can you buy gift cards to the parks and use them as food cards?

    • @ThePughTwo
      @ThePughTwo  Před 2 lety

      We honestly don’t know if they’re going to bring back meal plans at the parks or not. They’re currently running a deal during Mardi Gras where they’re selling food and beverage cards. We’re not sure about the gift cards though. They sell gift cards, but we’re not sure where all takes them!

    Their website confuses me. How do I separately book my hotel from a package. I am booking a premium hotel which includes the express tickets. I only want the 2 main parks, not the water park. How does this work? Should I just call them? 😊
