I said that this might just be a product with them not being comfortable with each other yet, so it will get better with more videos that they make together.

And most importantly reptiles have completely self contained, homeostatic eggs. Laid, incubated and hatched on dry land. A few even give live birth as well. Amphibians require water. I'm pretty sure amphibians go through multiple life stages as well. Idk if all of them do.

I am Indian and have been brainwashed by Sadhguru. I am only 10 yrs old, but highly skeptical about mystics like Sadhguru. I have been Hindu for my entire life but have turned atheist in the last year. I am the only atheist out of 2000 people in my school. For a long time, my family has been telling me that I am too young to understand how religion is true. My parents believe in Astrology, I absolutely hate it.

I know someone who dropped out of college to go study under Sadhguru for a few years and he helped develop the local isha temple and travels across the country teaching yoga and doing rituals to tend to holy rooms in peoples houses. I had the “fundamentalist heebegeebeez” whenever he would talk about it and this is the first thing I’ve seen confirming that instinct was correct so here’s an algorithm bump as thanks for doing the good work.

Bible Scientific Errord
Six day creation
The idea that the Earth and the Universe were created in six days a few thousand years ago is completely unscientific. The age of the universe is calculated as being around 13.8 billion years while Earth is calculated to have formed 4.5 billion years ago. The difference between these two dates is significantly greater than six days. For those biblical literalists who argue for a 7,000 year old earth, there are multiple lines of evidence against a recent creation and-by extension-against a six day creation.
Human evolution
The claim that humans were the result of a special creation event at the end of this six day period is wrong. In fact, the evidence that humans and other animals evolved gradually over a period of some three to four billion years is overwhelming.
A global flood
There is no evidence for a global flood event as described in the Bible. While there is evidence for large floods in regions spanning all over the world, there is nothing to suggest one giant flood engulfed the planet surface. Many ancient tribes and religions across the globe have flood myths, likely arising from past events. This does not suggest the flood described in the story of Noah actually occurred.
Tower of Babel
There is no linguistic evidence for any of the events included in the Tower of Babel myth.
Anatomy of insects
Leviticus 11:20-23 (NIV):
All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest.
While some would see this as a scientific error, J.P. Holding has an "explanation":[3]
Is this an error -- since insects have six legs, not four, and since "fowl" have two legs, not four? The reference to "fowl" is thought by some skeptics to refer to birds, but the word used here is 'owph, which merely means a creature with wings -- it is the same word used in verse 21 (flying). The reference in both cases is to insects. But there is an even better - and more correct - answer.
Quite simply, the big back legs on the locust, etc. were not counted as "legs" in the same sense as the other legs. Let's use an illustration from our popular literature, George Orwell's Animal Farm. In this story, Snowball the pig invented the slogan, "Four legs good, two legs bad" so as to exclude humans from Animal Farm society. The geese and other fowl objected, because they had only two legs. Snowball explained (more clearly in the book than in the movie) that in animal terms, the birds' wings counted as legs because they were limbs of propulsion, not manipulation, as a human's arms and hands were.
Now note the differentiation in Leviticus above -- referring to "legs above the feet" for leaping. The "feet" are being differentiated from the "legs above the feet" because of their difference in function. They are legs, but in a different sense than the "four" legs which are just called "feet." We are being told of two types of legs: The "on all four" legs (which are nowhere called legs; they are only called "feet" [v. 23]), and the "leaping legs." It is clear that the Hebrews regarded the two large, hopping hind limbs of the locust and the other insects of the same type, which are the only types of insects mentioned here (we now translate "beetle" as "cricket"), as something different than the other four limbs - perhaps because they were used primarily for vertical propulsion, whereas the other limbs were for scurrying around. (Shifts of terminology like this happen even today; check this proposal to redefine "planet".)
What the above explanation so clearly misses is the fact that when the Bible mentions that “All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you” [Group A] this group does not include those with leaping legs as shown by the fact this group does not include those with leaping legs as shown by the fact that the very next passage states “There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground.” [Group B]
Now if the passages lacked the first half discussing Group A, evangelical apologists such as J.P. Holding may have some ground. But as the biblical text clearly differentiates Group A (those with no jointed legs) as separate to Group B (those with said jointed legs) and yet both groups are defined as having four legs, this argument can be of no defense. Even if J.P Holding were correct on the still unsubstantiated basis that the ancient Hebrews defined crickets and similar insects of Group B as having four typical legs and two "jointed legs" for leaping,that still would not explain the missing legs of the beetles and other non-leaping insects from Group A which are discussed separately.
One should also note that the mentioned passage from Animal Farm provides an example of the pigs making up a clever excuse to justify and amend a previous mistake. In fact, Orwell's tale was a complete satire on how apologists operate, a literary device that went right over the head of J.P. Holding, who to the surprise of none, thinks the porcine ratiocination should be taken seriously. A real-life apologist invoking the B.S. excuse of a fictional apologist and not realizing that the character was actually a mockery of himself represents pure poetic justice.
The Indian "spirituality" "non duality" stuff is the most toxic of all nonsense and ironically the most dogmatic. It is a cult of weakness and mental illness where anyone who doesn't have the willpower to try and work through their own issues can become an "enlightened" guru or teacher

@@siaotak4657 Most religious books are indeed allegorical, and were written at a different period of time, which is why I don't advocate for religion being completely pushed out of schools, but rather its significance and facts taught in a scientific and academic manner in the history, not science, class. However, that does not mean that everything must conform to whatever these books say.

Sadhguru's fluency in English and his usage of intricate sounding terms like evolutionary memory, genetic memory bla bla somehow makes people believe in whatever he says irrespective of whether it makes sense or not. Many people believe and agree with his ideas though some things don't make sense at all.

I have no trouble accepting that some people long before Darwin thought that living things changed over time, several different people in different places/cultures had guesses along those lines in history.
But there's a big difference between just the assertion that living things somehow changed over time and providing evidence of change, a mechanism of change, and making testable predictions based on a scientific theory. Just because a religious figure got some details of observable reality a little bit correct in a *very* general sense (and a lot very wrong) doesn't mean that they were divinely inspired.
There's a big difference between science and just guessing something that can be sort of vaguely considered (if you ignore everything thing they got very wrong) similar-ish to a scientific conclusion. And all of that ignores modern day religious figures retrofitting religious teachings onto science by changing their original meaning.
Before I start, George, nice. Second is that Hinduism books was written by people. At that time there was not scientific tool but speculation, many that is right. But it also states that if anything become outdated, it is not to be used or follow. You have many Hindus who live there lives how it was hundreds of years ago and that is not correct. Sadhguru is teaching that way. Ex. In Christianity you can’t plant different plants in one crop (I was told) but that is one crucial type of farming. In conclusion we should always move forward in life, remembering that but but not dwelling in it.

But my comments about evolution was not a criticism of Hinduism per se, rather I was pointing out that the argument here (that Hinduism predicted biological evolution as understood by modern science) was flawed and in reality doesn't support Hinduism any more than the discovery of the "Big Bang" supports Christianity (which it doesn't). My criticism was directed at the specific argument being used not against any religion as a whole.

Really loved the colab and having 2 different views on the same topic. Growing up in a Christian school, it thankfully wasn't forced upon us and we were able to think freely, but in Year 12 we had a class with the Chaplin of the school who taught us about ways to stay sceptical about what we are reading. We did an analysis of Genesis 1 and we found by analysing it, it has the writing style of a poem, repeated phrases, same lengths and other hallmarks of poetry. Just found that really interesting that some people still cannot understand that it is not literal
You were lucky. We were taught to deny evolution, and i missed that whole chunk of biology in high school. Imagine my surprise later to find out about all the evidence of evolution after 20 years of a faith supported by incorrect facts. It was devastating.

Well thats actually pretty cool. I would have alot more respect for Christian teachers if they were diligent about seperating their personally held beliefs from established fact. I spent 20 years as a Christian, immersed in apologetics and deep scriptural study and completely neglected my interests in physics and biology as a result of my indoctrination. We need more science communicators like you. Too many people are ignorant about scientific topics that the scientific method is etched so deeply into to such an extent that they blatantly mischaracterize the science behind it. What you do is so much more necessary than some people realize, and apart from this contribution to humanity, you are also a great professor and musician (Love the Simulated Sun project and you are a *phenomenal* pianist!).
This is one of the activities in my free time that bring me the most faith in the fact that humanity still has a chance. You are an inspiration as a figure to me.

26:51 Biblical Inerrancy doctrine is not that the Bible is true word for word, that's Scriptural (hard) Literalism. Biblical inerrancy means that the Bible, whether they mean the one they worship or the supposed original texts, cannot be false.
So if the Bible is contradicted by something, either the interpretation of the verse is wrong, the translation is wrong, or the observations are mistaken, the source was mistaken(if you have a verse that goes "Yonah said", the only thing that's necessarily true is that Yonah said it)... But at no cost can the Bible be regarded as wrong, that dogma is always true by fiat of it being dogma.
Hard Literalists don't have that much wiggle room in their apologetics.
12:08 Turtles are definitely reptiles. Although they can spend MOST of their lives in water, they never have a stage of their lives after hatching (from their land eggs) where they breathe through gills, like amphibians.

I’m wondering if there was some miscommunication going on in that part of the video. I think the Indian guy meant to say amphibious in the sense that some turtles can transition between land/water and not in the sense of being an amphibian, which could have tripped up both of them.

Turtles are not amphibians. Amphibia is a taxonomic distinction, with the primary differences between them and reptiles being:
[1] Amphibians have a larval stage where they have gills, where reptiles are born with lungs and no gills
[2] Smooth, wet skin as opposed to dry scales
[3] Amphibians almost always have to both mate and lay their eggs in water, where reptiles lay eggs on land
[4] There is only a single species of amphibian that has claws (the aptly named clawed frog)
Most amphibians are either frogs/toads or salamanders/newts. So if it's not one of those, it's almost certainly a reptile. Hope that helps.
Tbh, I'd prefer Christian apologetics to accept Evolution like this sad guru guy by overinterpreting the creation myths in the bible in a way that they can pretend that whoever wrote genesis "knew" about evolution.

I used to teach yoga. I've met a few of Sadhguru's "followers" (or at least people who had attended his Inner Engineering seminars) and they all had this starry-eyed, cult-like admiration for him. They would ask me if I had heard of him, what I thought of him etc. I was curious, so I looked into attending one of his seminars. I've been to plenty of yoga retreats, lessons, conventions, seminars etc. over the years and the $500 price tag for an introductory "lesson" jumped out at me as a red flag. Even "famous" gurus that I've studied under don't charge anywhere near that much just to attend a lesson (most of them are free or ask for a small donation). I've listened to a few of his videos and I would classify what he says as "feel good bullshit." His meditation techniques are rudimentary at best and below what even an initiate would learn. I certainly wouldn't pay any money to hear him speak. He's not even an expert in the field he's trying to scam people with, so I doubt he knows anything about actual science.
I was already wondering what financed the huge steel statues he had build, but the $500,- price tag explains a lot.

at the 12:40ish mark there's a need for some clarification. There is a distinction between the words "Amphibious" which is an adjective describing something that can traverse land and water and goes between the two (some man made vehicles are even described this way) and so tortoises could be described in this way. Then there is the word "Amphibian" which is a noun and refers to a taxonomic grouping of related animals which includes frogs and salamanders. Many tortoises/turtles are amphibious, but they are not amphibians.
The story of Matsya avatar (Fish form) DOES NOT talk about life beginning in water. It is just a similar flood story just like noah's ark.
There are lot of humans and various animals in that same story.
This is just a hindu version of cooking up and reintepreting the old stories to show off fake supremacy of their superstitions over scienctific method.

This is a great reaction video. I have such a limited understanding of any Hindu perspectives so this was great way to get a feel for some of that thinking.
This video is not exactly a fair representation of hindu thought imho. They come the closest to secular thought if you really understand the essence of the teachings from the vedas.. people will be people so we see all the gurus pontificating.

I find it very hard to believe that many highly educated people, who are very successful in their fields, follow Sadhguru. Those followers are surely that educated to differentiate this simple fact. So there must be something significant that people who talk trash about him are missing.
Cult leaders often target highly intelligent people who are successful in their fields because they are more productive and offer the cult a sense of legitimacy. And to be clear people who fall for this kind of thing are not stupid they are desperately looking for a sense of community and purpose

hey dude, i've been to sadhguru's ashram and i am a highly educated person as you would say, I am doing a masters degree in physics. public opinion on him seems to be so bad, as if they're already decided to dislike him, especially in urban india and not outside. The reason i look up to him is that if you pay slightly more extensive and impartial attention to him, you will find that he is not your average man in the human bell curve.
Sadly education in various fields is not consistent, even in the same classroom.
Education is but a means to practice, it should be the fruits of that practice that speak more than the degree

I agree, but respectfully remind you ( and myself ) to not stay in an echo chamber. Even when that chamber IS logic, I still find I'm better built by spending a bit of time hearing ridiculous ideas of people unknowing that science isn't a "thing", it's not like when people say "god" it's a process that involves everybody.

Turtles are not amphibians, they are Testudines. (Tortoises, Sea Turtles, Freshwater Turtles, Snapping Turtles, and Softshelled Turtles) although ther phylogenetic placement is still a little ambiguous, we know that they're a derived type of reptile.
