The crowd joining in to say 'I need the receipt' was both hilarious and heartbreaking.
Totally. I'm glad I wasn't thee only one who felt that.
Something about the buy a bag policy irked me. When I go to a computer store, purchase $nnn to $nnnn in products, I don't like to be forced to buy bags to get to my car trunk. I remember my late mother telling me to have my purchases in bags before exiting the store. Being in Boston, Massachusetts it is easy to cross city and town lines, and county lines in a 5 mile drive. Only in Newton did they do something sensible. No more plastic bags. Paper bags are supplied at no extra cost. A chain supermarket in Waltham will supply paper and plastic at no extra cost. Somerville, how many 10 cent reusable plastic bags do you want to add to your order? Sorry, not sorry all you once upon a time Split wood, not atoms types who are now beating your breast about the waste of newspapers being dead trees.
I mean. I'm white and I get stopped all the time bc I'm blue collar and look like a bum after work when I'm getting something from a store. Calm down
@@Y_N_K_888 Read my comment again, and then read your reply.
Ask yourself why that is the thing you chose to say to an observation a stranger made on the internet. An observation that has absolutely nothing to do with you.
Ask yourself.
@@FloorEncer was split wood, not atoms a thing? I’ve never heard of that, what do they even mean by that? Like, make paper not bombs? How odd.
I’d definitely say that the shipping and resetting of constant seasonal items alone do a lot more damage to our planet than end user bags but this way they have a cute little thing to put on a press release so that they can congratulate themselves. I often wonder if the higher up you get on a corporate ladder the more isolated from reality your world becomes. PLUS I bet that little charge per bag idea offset some of the projected outcomes in Q3 bc endless corporate profit is definitely as sustainable and positive as it gets, right?
I like how the audience all said ,"I need that receipt" so dam true, I cant tell you how many times I've been stopped outside a store by lost prevention 🤦🏾♂️😔
What is lost prevention?
@@wb8695 aka security...the ones who sit in that lil room and watch all the cameras

😄😄
Bruh... you know what he meant! 😄😄
I have worked LP and if they are stopping you after you went through the checkout then they need to be fired. 😒
The 'needing a bag' bit is one of the most incredible jokes in stand up history🙌🙌🙌
Agreed
100%, hall of fame set
Roy wood Jr is so underrated
👋👋SKABOP We know that!
It’s truth!
When everyone said "that receipt " I felt that in my soul lol
The call back to the slavery joke at the end was priceless
The best comedians do it. When you see it-and it works-you know you’re watching someone who isn’t just funny but is also great at their craft. And it absolutely worked here.
It wasn't a slavery joke. It was a civil rights joke. He's talking about the 1050s bruh
Masterful!!!
"I am a black man in America....bruh....I gotta leave the store with a bag.....It's about safety." Man that is real.
No joke. I am a 55 year old Black man here in Chicago. A very young man told me after my exchange in the electronic department that we were cool. I had to explain that I need a bag and a receipt being a Blackman. It is a fact of life. He gave me a bag and my receipt. Only then did I feel comfortable walking through the store to the exit. I would not have moved from his counter until I received something that would overcome any potential encounters that never end well from my experience. When you get too comfortable , America will remind you of what it truly feels about your position as a citizen of this country.
facts....my nana was the same way!
The part of the audience all joining in unison about the receipt is the most genuine part in show biz history. If anyone ever has doubts that blacks feel they are treated differently that is your proof there...unscripted. If you doubt the polls that should convince you.
Nah whites won’t admit our conditions...they will call it reverse racism or like he said we all Americans...I learned a lot going to a all white school to learn.....
"If anyone ever has doubts that blacks feel..." in USA.
I realized a long time ago some yts just don’t WANT to understand. They REFUSE to. You could take them back in a time machine and they’d be like “Ok so maybe the slaves WERE being whipped a little hard... But at least they get good food and shelter”
The people, who are not convinced of racism against black people by what they see on the news, what they read online, what they read in a history book and what they can verify with statistics, will sadly not be convinced by this either.
I mean feeling your being treated differently and being treated differently are two different things. Im the type dark they still shipping over from africa, yet I can count on one hand the times ive experienced racism. Jesus loves yall have a good day man
So we agree that Roy Wood Jr. is damn good at what he does, right?
Oh hells ya
4-SURE !!!
Of course
One of the best
After considering your comment for 9 months... Hell yeah, he is. His jokes and inflection are awesome but his audience control is amazing.
Roy Wood is an underrated comedy legend in the game.
Ushering in a new golden age of standup comedy. Been dry out there for a couple of decades then here comes Roy Wood Jr just absolutely killing it.
He's funny and deep at the same time. Legend is the perfect word.
“I need that receipt” made me laugh and cry at the same time.
Give Roy his flowers man, the “double bounce” had me crying lmao
“I gotta leave this store with a bag bruh” 😂😂😂💯
Dude is hilarious. Sometimes I can’t tell where he’s going with a joke, then he springs up a punchline and it takes me by surprise every time😂
DamnDave, similar to my comment and observations, now I happily tap a vid of his that appears and know I'll not just enjoy it, there might be a useful piece of knowledge for my re-education! He might also be a good author in the making if he isn't already! I enjoy the way he trips me up! I'm grateful to him for that.
" Staple the receipt to the bag on the outside like china carryout..."
The details on his jokes are always great!
That's a "laugh to keep from crying"routine right there. Truth.
Barely works for me though, I got a lump in my throat at "I gotta leave this store with a bag"… the way he says it, that's not an act, that pain is real. 😧
3:41 "we live in two different Americas" painful truth spoken by one of the most eloquent humorists of our age.
On a different note - how could you dislike a Roy Wood Jr. video?
Guy from the other america
Cuz "they" the other America.....
I love Roy Wood Jr.!
I like the silliness of this almost as much as i like my silly videos. 😶🤔
it hits you
He loves black movies!
@@StupiderWithAB shut up
As a person who’s been accused of stealing before exiting a store, I approve this message.
Thank you Roy, for educating me! I had to have him shout it in my face why he needed that bag! And now I understand something that I just took for granted before. 😕
Like he said...2 different America's. I had to have this same conversation with a friend in college one night leaving a convenience store. All I got was gum & a cherry coke but I wanted a bag & receipt. He didn't understand till I told him
Why haven't I heard of this guy before? All the black comics I watch and they hide this gem. This guy's great
He is a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Check it out!
I said the same thing too!
*"I will Hukna Mutata that bag up in the air!"*
I swear that's me everytime I leave the store. It's a reason we take the recite, "It's our problem free Philosophy!!!" Right there in the song. I want to go home. I have a family and Netflix Series to look forward too.😂
Hukuta
Yep, I take ALL my receipts!! Even gas ⛽ receipts, I take. My dad tought me your receipts are your alibi JUST IN CASE of mistaken identity. So yeah, I am taking that receipt 👍🏾.
Yep don't want no trouble from security or cashier lying on me. Take that receipt even at drive through McDonald's.
Even after watching a dozen Roy Wood Jr clips, I’m still amazed and surprised at how perfect his “call backs” are at the end to a bit that he did much earlier in his set. I laugh every single time.
I never thought about this! Enlightening, sad, and funny, all in one standup bit.
Gotta laugh to keep from crying. 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely!
Exactly !
This is one of the best comedy routines I have ever seen. It's funny and sad; yet still manages to make an incredibly powerful and true statement. Absolutely great!
I definitely feel awkward leaving without a bag or receipts... waving the receipt like a flag. Was taught as a kid to not even put my hands in my pocket in a store... sad. Lol
Waving the receipt as a flag.. Damn that is a Powerful Truth !!!
Am white and was taught and did the exact same thing. We fear the same thing you do, not all white people are exempt from what black Americans go through, it just happens to be that the people who do get to live in America care free are white, but the majority aren't so lucky. Don't let anyone divide us. Martin Luther king jr worked to unite white people and black people and to give black Americans rights and they killed him because the last thing they want is to not keep us divided.
@@thomasmitchell4128 Yes I do agree and appreciate your opinion. I just point how wonderful the world could be if we could all love one another and appreciate our differences. Sounds corny I know.
I see first hand how it is. My fiance is black and although my future stepson is twenty-five she still always is reminding him that sadly he is a young black man and reminds him always on what to do and not do because it will save his life. To me that is sad and frustrating. As a letter carrier I try and do my tiny bit and I always greet the youth on my route and make them feel appreciated and respected. Many of them especially the black youth get a bad rep. A simple fist bump goes a long way with them and they feel appreciated.
@@ramonpineda7514 Yes I'm 51 years old, my girlfriend is Chinese and sometimes she doesn't understand why I always put the shopping bags in the car when we go from one store to the next... It's comes from life experience, sadly...
Dude could play MLK in a movie
Come to think of it, have they made King's biopic yet?
@@martinnduati1132 yeah it's called Selma, the movie Roy Wood, Jr. was just talking about. 😆

LMAO facts
@@martinnduati1132 they did a mini series called "King" back in the day an Selma. But yeah if he can act that would be a break out rule.
The tiredness in his eyes when talking about needing bags and receipts... Only to skkabbopp us in the sequence.
I've seen dozens of American standup comics, I've got to say Roy is my number1 comedian, and most of his acts are consistently age appropriate for everyone. God bless u Roy... and keep taking care of my nephew Trevor that side
You should check this up and coming comedian called Dave Chappelle. I have a feeling he's gonna be even bigger. He will be called by a new word that I just coined called G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time).
He makes comedy out of tragedy. I bought some electronics from
a store and still got hassled by security with the receipt in my hand.
Give Roy his own show.
They tried that with Arsenio Hall and Larry Wilmore. Brothas was too real for even woke White folks.
@@ZebraFacts I recently got back into the 90's Eddie Murphy claymation show, the PJs and I recognized Larry Wilmore's name as one of the writers. I didn't know him back then, but I've loved him on the Daily Show and when he had his own talk show. Funny dude and he definitely contributed to how funny the PJs is.
Wasn't he on the Trevor Noah show
He has a wonderful show. It's a blog cast you can see here on CZcams. He deep dives topics.
@@danhex Roy Wood Jr. Is a Daily Show correspondent and he'll sometimes have segments on his own, like his CP Time segments ("It's for the culture!"), which are hilarious and educational, but he hasn't really had his own tv show.
Apparently he has a blog cast on CZcams though. Thanks to @Laura Holzler.
😂😂😂 You don't even know how much joy and laughter your comedy brings me. 😂😂 Thank you.
Roy is great at calling back to something earlier in his sets. Everything is funny on its own, but a lot of it also ties into something else later on. When it happens, everything just clicks into place perfectly and its great.
I love how the humming sounds like no song/tune I've heard but I know what he's talking about.
I’ve been trained since childhood to get the bag and receipt. The biggest difficulty is when other “foreigners” are behind the counter and don’t know this. I’ve almost had arguments because it’s the same clerks, not the same kind, but the same clerks I had to tell over and over again. I’m like when will you get it? Perhaps I should’ve waited for this bit so I could have it on ready.
The unity at 5:16 is beautiful.
And saddening...
@Katherine Ross... When The Crowd Yelled " I Need That Receipt".... That Was Something.... Cause We Don't Have That Privilege Of Leaving The Store Without a Bag.... It Was Funny...It Was True... But It Was Also Sad 😥
I love how the white men in the audience are truly getting educated about the bag and receipt. I could see some of their faces were in complete shock. Roy is right… everyone isn’t racist. Some folks just don’t know!
You guys are terrible at reading white people's body language. Almost 90% of the time you are wrong😂
FINALLY, a good stand up comedian from this generation. It's really hard to find comedians that are actually funny.
Very very true
try mark normand... or any of them daily show correspondents
Roy Wood, Jr. does brilliant social commentary disguised as comedy.
THAT is what special comedians DO!
It was "nekked ass i-phone case" for me lololololol

I've been binge watching this guy. Hella funny
This guy is Hilarious....very funny and he teaches too with his comedy 🤣
It’s the double bounce in the dirt for me😩😭
If this weren't stand-up comedy, I'd be crying. This has been a sad reality for Black people around the world for centuries.
About 400 years to be exact. But with each generation we’ve gotten better, and we’ve made great strides especially during the 40s to 60s.
Yea I understand the 400 years, Bruh this 2021! This country is a different world, for real, if MLK, Malcolm X and black leaders could 2021 than what they lived in they be rolling in grave shocked seeing what they see this country has becomed
actually it's only in America. I don't see it happen anywhere else. But, don't believe me, check it.

The bag situation is straight facts! I tell my son and nephews all the time. Don’t take the area that we live for granted.
True I remember when I was a teen I was at the grove store said no to a receipt then the lady looks me dead in the eye and says always take a receipt. I never forgot it
This Brother is the truth.
The way this dude circles back to the humming joke like Dave Chappelle does with his jokes. I love this guy!!
Friggin love this guy’s comedy.
Love me some Roy wood jr on a Monday😁😁
What he said was gold " You don't know what that security guard has been thru that day".
I worked as a door to door marketer, and, when you knock on someone's door, you don't know what that person has been thru or going thru; why you got to smile; but even a smile for some in a bad day is the worse you can do to them. Get that BAG and RECEIPT!
PS. One guy pulled a gun on me and told me to get off his property. I said " Thanks have a good day" and walked my ass off his property.
Did not know this guy but he is funny smart ! Mr Wood I wish you more recognition and long succes !
LMAO! That ending had me rolling 🤣 This bit is seriously true. 😥
Sometimes even the receipt won't save you. The two black men that went to return a TV to a store and they had the cops called on them. They had the receipt lol.
There is a Best Buy ad on this damn video!! The bag story at the end, then realizing the Best Buy ad was attached. That added another layer of the joke to me.
Nothing but truth; you've got to laugh, because otherwise it's too much; insane that we still live this way
Dont forget to take a selfie with the cashier handing you the bag with the receipt stapled outside 👍
Yessssir! YES I WANT MY RECEIPT EVERY TIME OK?!
I ask for my receipt even when I’m ordering food so the cops know I paid for it
man I'm white and I take the receipt every time. I run a lot, and I have been mistaken for a thief running from cops ( who were there outside the store detaining actual thieves unbeknownst to me ). I've never gone to a walk in store and left without a receipt since.
I'm Roy Wood Jr. binging today!
Holy crap, the point on this one is magnificent.
I live in East Kentucky Appalachia where there is hardly any people of color here. And all I knew about POC was from my mom who grew up in a different region in the Jim Crow era and who had many friends of color and to sadly had to hide that from locals so that her and her friends could be protected from violence. And we are part Native American.
