I'm from Birmingham Alabama and actually went to the same high school as Roy. I listened to him on the radio on the car rides to that school. I later had to come home from college because I was failing and not motivated at all.. I went to work at Labor Ready. I worked harder than anyone there and earned full time employment with a company. Fast forward about 18 to 20 yrs and I'm doing pretty well in the work force, bought land, had a family, but now getting thru a rough divorce where I'm having to start all over. This reminded me of my journey and that gives me some hope and peace in this stressful time 🙏🏽.. I can do it again 💪🏾.. I really appreciate this story.

This was less of a stand-up and more of a storytime session. And I'm cool with that!

Anyone else think Roy is up there with the best comics right now?

He's my favorite comedian next to Dave Chappelle.. They both have so much command over the room with very little aggressions or antics just good storytelling, really good punchlines, and there's always some message at the end... Now That's What I call comedy...

Roy, I'm a dad - and old enough to be yours. You don't need me to tell you that you're someone to be proud of. Now your mom ... if she's ever failed at anything, it doesn't show from here. Regards and respects to a woman who is a great American success story.

I admire him for his honesty. There's no such thing as an "overnight sensation."

I actually want to hear him say the rest even though you can tell how it went. He’s just such a soothing storyteller when he talks about his own stories.

Comedians structure their set as a series of separate bit. The best ones structure their set as a connected story. Roy and Chapelle definitely are the best in the game when it come to this.

And somehow, the funnyman finds a way to make the audience laugh through his pain. Roy’s one of the best comedians in the past 20 years. Comedy comes from those strong enough to find the humor in pain, and this man has made me laugh my ass off while also teaching me lessons that haven’t left my head since. The importance of being nice to people, for example. His delivery is unmatched. He’s worked his ass off to be where he is and there are very few that deserve to reach that level. I’m going to see him live someday, that’s on my bucket list.
