Thanks for checking out my review of the Dell XPS 17. Newly convinced Windows user or diehard Apple fan: let me know how you think this stacks up to the competitors!
8:20 Wait, did you actually record that sound from the laptop playing it, or did you accidently cut the original mp3 file of the song in the video, cuz it sounds soooo good!!!!
Hi! Was wondering how the battery has held up over the last year (ie if the capacity has gone down in the last year). Also, would you recommend the 1080p panel? Do you ever regret not getting the 4k model instead? Thanks!
Hey just saw this review and it’s awesome, just one question tho, how is your arm rest on the deck and contact with the edge of the laptop? I saw some reviews where they said the edge is too sharp so when they rest their arm on the deck, the edge contacts and hurt the arm. Do you have that issue?
are you still using the xps 17 today? How has it been, any issues? im thinking of getting this 2020 model, hoping dell has some good sales soon as the 2021 models have recently come out..i dont need super maxed out specs, im mainly just using this for everyday use, essay writing, browsing online, streaming, watching netflix/youtube, and just a place to store my photos. Im thinking of your same model with the gtx 1650ti gpu. How has the thermals been while your using it, any issues with it getting too hot during normal use? Thats the main thing i get worried about with laptops.
I think that would be helpful, but depends on if you're used to that style of learning. If you're more used to a laptop instead of pen and paper or tablet, I would use that money on a decent laptop :)
Thanks for the upload. Looks like the skin on top of the computer attracts a lot of fingerprints. Is that a deception and would this also be the case with the native main body palmrests?
I have the matte black D Brand skin on it right now and I don't see it attracting any fingerprints at all! The native main body palmrests also seem to be very resistant to fingerprints and oil. Hope that helps :)
the palmrests can attract fingerprints and oil a bit but it's easy to clean. but what matters is it's extremely soft and nice and cozy on your hands and wrists. it's the best feeling palm rest I've ever experienced on a laptop. And this is coming from a 34 year old guy who has used 7-8 laptops including macbooks.
I'm happy with 1080p. I don't use touchscreen very often and I've read that you won't really notice a massive difference in image quality with the 4K. Overall, love the screen, especially the thin bezels 🙌
It is actually not a 1080 screen that you have. The options are 16x10 17.0" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) Non-Touch Anti-Glare, or 17.0" UHD+ (3840 x 2400) Touch Anti-Reflecitve ;-)
I have bought this laptop and unfortunately, it has many quality issues. The sound of the device started dropping only a few days after purchase. After which it started to have issues with the touchpad, it would go to sleep and I was not able to turn it on for hours. After endless conversations with customer support and many diagnostic videos later they sent an engineer to replace the hard drive, touchpad, and motherboard. The very next day after the replacement the screen went totally black and that was the end of it. I requested a replacement unit but Dell have been unhelpful and they refused to do so. I have been trying for 5 months now to get this fixed but without any success. I am currently stuck with a device that does not work. Overall, awful experience with the device and the tech support of Dell. Avoid it as much as possible.
Hey Jose, I didn't mention it but I added a D-Brand matte black sticker to the laptop. Would definitely recommend it as it gives a super clean and nice look to the laptop!
I bought mine 1 month ago. Please do yourself a favor and do not buy this expensive well built laptop. It has many problems which should not come with a 2 grand laptop.
Unpopular opinion: It's time for laptops to get rid of speakers. Because who doesn't have wired or wireless headphones or earphones now, right? And without the speakers, there would be more space for cooling or battery or storage.
Hey Sinan, I actually use the speakers a lot! Whenever I'm doing something with a group (think movie night or maybe even cooking together). I can definitely see your point with using that space for another feature, but at the same time a lot of people do use the speakers too :)
@@EricSun20 Yeah, true. I just can't watch films or shows on laptop! :D The screen is too small for my liking. On another note, I got the Dell XPS 17 too (and I switched from Macbook Air) and I'm loving it!
I know it is 2 years later, but for whom might be reading this: the speakers on a laptop are extremely important to me, and I very much chose a laptop based on the sound quality of the speakers as well. If the speakers are not above averidge, then I don't by the laptop.

4:19 and 5:42 - no sound at all
big thanks for not recording audio to represent sound
@@sk8ordie548 Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Good luck with your studies.

Great video! One question. Where did you get the case for XPS 17? I would like one for my XPS!!
Thanks David! The "case" is actually a matte black DBrand skin (aka sticker). I think it was about $20 but it makes the laptop look incredible!
@@EricSun20 I see. I just researched it and looks great. Thank you and take care!!
No problem! Happy to help David :)

Haha thanks Steve! :)
Hi Eric, love your content! I was just wondering if u recommend getting an IPad or tablet of some sort for university.
I think that would be helpful, but depends on if you're used to that style of learning. If you're more used to a laptop instead of pen and paper or tablet, I would use that money on a decent laptop :)

What is the weight like on your shoulders carrying this beast to and from class?
You didn't really say if you liked the screen. Wish you got the 4k or are you happy with 1080p on a bigger laptop screen?

Learned something new today! Thanks for the clarification :)
just want to let you know you got a bit better screen than 1080
Thanks A Lee :)
Hey, did you experience any issues with the wifi card? A no. Of users have reported frequent wifi disconnection issues.
Hey Divin, never had a problem with the wifi card :)
How is it carrying the XPS 17 around for classes? I'm worried ab it being a little big

Sorry to hear that you're having a bad experience Alexandra. I hope it's fixed/replaced soon!
You didn't get any battery drain issues while charging under heavy load??
Not on my model! I know that was a problem, but I believe that has since been resolved.
@@EricSun20 really that's the only thing that keeps me away fron buying this xps thanks for the reply
It's still going strong! Loving it :)
why is the exterior black when you unboxed a white one? Please let me know as I also prefer black but received a white one.
