  • Superb trip organised by Hannah and Jim Corbett. Delayed a bit by 4 wind but we set off eventually.
Girvan, on the Ayrshire coast, once a very prosperous holiday town, has suffered from the effects of decades of cheap foreign holiday destinations. Very nice wee town nonethetess...well worth a visit.
Ailsa Craig is a volcanic plug with particularly dense granite still highly prized by the curling community. Evidence of quarrying all around, not least the buildings and small cable railway. Rats have been eliminated to encourage sea birds. Of particular note is the "gannetry" on west of the island first evidenced by the smell!
We had to be back to the boat by 2.45 to beat low tide but were late. The gallant crew of MV "Glorious" held their nerve and waited for us as the bottom fast approached their vessel!
Uneventful trip back where we four split from the rest of the party for fish suppers and home.
Great day out with pleasant, friendly company. The video was a first attempt so not edited at all, I'm afraid I dont have the skill!.
