Here is the newest addition to my 1911 line-up. This is my Lipsey's Exclusive Rock Island Armory 10mm 1911. In this video, I'll review the new pistols and then take it to the range for a workout!
Hey all! Logica Redux had a great idea. All of you get to select a name for my new RIA 10mm 1911. That sounded like fun to me, so let me know what you think I should name it, and I'll announce what it will be in a future video!
I vote for "Sergeant. Rock". But I guess one has to be a certain age to know who he is! But maybe since it isn't a GI .45, you could go with "Rock 10".
My former canine companion would be honored if you used his name, Otis. He was reliable to a fault, good natured to the core, and would've given his life gladly to protect his family.
That’s a heavy trigger, Chief! My local shop/range is populated with 1911 competitors and connoisseurs, so I’d have to lighten that before showing up. There are a ton of 1911 videos, and the fact that I watched every minute of your review, is a testament to your skill at presentation. 👍🇺🇸
I have a RI 1911 10mm coming in 3 more days. I feel like a 65 year old kid. I have watched many, many videos on this firearm. Yours was the most informative. Thanks for your video, and your service. God bless.
I really like Rock Island 1911’s. I just ordered one of their 10mm commander models. One thing I can say from experience is that the pistols work great but they work much better with Wilson Combat mags. The factory RIA mags are the only real issue I’ve ever had with the ones I’ve shot. Nice shooting by the way!
I have a similar story..... Joined Navy in 86 and remember reading about the 10mm back then. I picked up a S&W1066 while i was still in. Now i have 2 10mm Dan Wessons (Bruin & Silverback), and a 10mm Ruger SR1911 (all 70 series!). Really like the 10mm but shoot 45acp much more often due to 45 brass able to be found on ground at the range to reload. Also have 10mm Glocks(G29,G20,G40). I believe the G20 was one of the earliest 10mm's and kept the 10mm alive in the market in the early years.
Excellent review. I'm also a long time 1911 fan since my grandfather taught me to shoot with his WWII era Colt. I have a RIA FS Ultra 10mm in black, and it has been an excellent firearm. Very accurate, very reliable.
Thank you. I just purchased that exact gun on a whim. I took it immediately to the range and yes, it's a tack driver. I even ran 40 cal through it and it functioned flawlessly and accurately. Knowing now that it's a Lipseys exclusive, found in my local shop brand new, makes it just a little sweeter. Thank you.
That’s an attractive gun. I’ve been eyeballing those for a while. I have two older RIA 1911s one government model and one officers model in .45 ACP. They’re nice guns.
One of the best reviews for this handgun I have seen yet. Very detailed and accurate. Your comparison to the 41 magnum brought new light to the 10mm cartridge. Thank you for all the updated information.
I just traded in my glock 20sf this week for the RIA 1911A1 in 10mm and I couldn't be any happier with this pistol. Keep up with these great videos and nice shooting Marine! SEMPER FI!
I have just under 2k through both of mine so far, and the only issue I ever had was a mag issue. It would drop free while firing, and wouldn't hold open on the last round. After running it and the pistol that problem worked itself out. No issues like those with the other brands of magazines I had. Just the one it came with. I.went to Wilson Combat and MecGar magazines and never had another problem. I wasn't to happy about the one magazine either, but since I also buy extras for a my firearms it wasn't a big deal. These things are ACCURATE. The triggers are a little heavy at first, but they are very crisp. After three or four boxes of ammo both of mine lightened up from +/-6lbs. to around 4.5lbs.. I have enough faith in them that I do everything from EDC to using it the pop hogs while hunting. The last thing you want is a pistol you can't trust while hunting with only a compound bow, and that pistol you're carrying is the only thing that can save you from a charging boar... Trust me. I have other 10mm 1911's, STI Nitro 10mm, Dan Wessen Razorback, and another RIA Ultra Tac II 10mm 4 1/2", but truth be told I prefer carrying one of my RIA's because they're every bit as accurate and solid as my $1200+ 10mm's, and at half the price I won't cry too much banging them around a little. Good stuff Brother. I think you're going to enjoy playing with this one for awhile. Semper Fi!
HR----love the story of PFC Funk....my buddy got one of these a few months ago, a real nice shooter, accurate and recoil is minimal. On 17 July 1975 I shipped out to Navy boot camp....I think we both miss those days. Carry on Marine
I bought their basic GI 1911A1 to get into the 1911 game, and it has been a flawless joy to shoot; I'm tempted to get the TAC spec model I like it so much (and I am a big fan of 45 ACP). Your reviews by the way are in my opinion the very best on CZcams.
after watching this and about a dozen other channels featuring this very same pistol, ive decided to start saving up my pennies and go and buy one for me..I recently moved down south and have seen several very intimidating looking wild pigs down here and ive decided that they want to be invited to dinner
From the sound (and looks) of it, this would be an absolute firebrand of a pistol with minimal work needed. That trigger needs to clean up, but (a) that's very easy to do safely and (b) that's common among all non-custom 1911s. It is cheaper than the Ruger option on the market, and much cheaper than the Colt, but it doesn't appear to be giving up much in the way of function, fit, or finish. Glad to see a thorough review of a nice import option.
@@hrfunk I really enjoy it, first expensive gun for me and the quality shows. My 9mm & 45 are snappier, I believe the 10mm just fits my hand better, maybe it's the 1911 platform too. Got a fine #Galco leather holster for her. Very grateful. Oh, and you have taught me alot, I enjoy your broadcasts ~ Peace
My early story is alot like yours. I drooled over that Delta Elite for a LONG time and like you have resisted buying one now that I do have the means. This does seem like a viable alternative. RIA seems that way on multiple of their weapons. Thanks for the great video!
I love my Delta Elite. I have an older model or original model built in 1989. It’s a bad ass gun and idc what anyone says I shoot any kind of 10mm ammo I can find out of it with zero problem. This includes underwood 220gr Hard Cast Lead bullets loaded up to max pressure. That round can fire through 9 2 gallon water drugs and badly bulged the back of the 10th. When I pulled out the projectile it had zero deformation and I’m 100% confident in the 10mm Auto ability to take down just about anything assuming you use the correct ammunition. I practice with the Sig Elite performance ammo as it’s loaded up within 10mm specs a 180gr FMJ going about 1250ft/sec muzzle velocity with 683ft/lbs of muzzle energy. Most other target practice 10mm is very under powered and within .40 S&W specs. Not cool considering the price.
Beautiful pistole,Great video,Workin Mans 1911.I have heard Rock Island produces more 1911s than any manufacturer in the world! They " ROCK" .I DIDNT KNOW THE PHILLIPINES WAS AMERICAN SOIL UP UNTIL 1946. GREAT FOLKS! THANKS AGAIN FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!
Scary... I just picked up that exact pistol last week. I had the same issue with mag not locking the slide back, but I had a couple of Mec-Gar mags and they worked fine. It is a real pleasure to shoot when compared to my Glock 20. More accurate too, with me anyway.
I enjoyed this video from start to finish. Especially the range portion. Great video. I'm looking at picking up the RIA FS HC 5" 10mm soon. This is the 16+1 capacity but that one is mighty tempting!
So far I'm very impressed with my RIA. If it is representative of their entire line, then I think you'll be quite happy with any one you acquire. Thanks for watching!
I bought a rock island GI .45 11 years ago for my first pistol at 21 for $370 brand new. Have had maybe 2 or 3 jams from bad magazines. Still carry it all the time. Shoots smoother than my other one
I have the 400$ GI and love it ! It will do most of what you ask of it even with the small sights! How does the recoil feel in comparison to fairly hot 45 auto loads?
@@brianharris4275 I'm probably the last person to ask I'm a 340lb powerlifter so recoil doesnt mess with me much . I carry hornady critical defense or ball ammo in mine. My RIA is far less picky than my expensive 1911. It has a larger feeding ramp than the other 2 1911s I've had
Mr. Funk, Great review, I saw one of these a few days ago and I think you just sealed the deal. If it is a beauty or safe queen you want, go by the Colt, but if you want to use it in the field, this seems the tool for just about any job. See no reason why this couldn't be a hog or deer gun within it's and the shooters limitations.
Thank you! For being the ONLY gun reviewer I’ve seen on CZcams to equate the 10mm to the .41 mag! I’ve owned both being a Jeff Cooper devote and a .41 mag fan. The 10 in original loading is very close to the .41 you ware correct sir! The reviews here seem to always compare the 10 to a .357 mag! No, NO! The 10mm to .41 mag the .357 mag to .357 Sig! And a great review on the RIA 10mm too!
I have the ruger stainless sr1911 in 10mm, love it! I put a strip of grip tape below the trigger guard, talk about entering the ultimate GRIP ZONE, baby! Thinking about coating the frame a mossy green, maybe that tasty caribbean tan you got on your piece. Something warm for the summer, but festive for autumn and spring. Anyway, love to see that grip tape in your next video ;D ✌
Thank you! I kind of like the grip on mine as it is. I don't notice the pistol moving around in my hand under recoil, so I'll probably not add the tape. Thanks for the suggestion all the same.
I've been looking at the RIA 10mms for a while now. I love the 10mm Auto cartridge, though my experience comes in the form of a well worn Gen III Glock 20. I don't know what your handloads consist of, but I suggest you give the 200 gr Hornady XTP a try, if you are interested in full power 10mm Auto. In my experience, most of the .40 cal bullets on the market are intended for the .40 S&W, and driving them a couple hundred feet per second will give you more energy, but not necessary all that much more effectiveness, because most bullets will over expand and not perform at 10mm Auto velocities. The 200 gr XTP does very well at 1200 fps. This bullet as loaded by Underwood has been my woods and street carry choice for years. I've taken deer and various small game with it and it seems to expand well, penetrate deep, and provide very consistent, predictable performance at "real" 10mm Auto velocities.
Definitely great guns for the money.. I got the Rock island arms A2 fs tact 2 16+ 1 in 10mm I love it... And my only beef is the one mag and the finish.. other than that it's awesome.. eats everything I put into it.
@@hrfunk yes sir.. now if we could get crimson trace to make laser grips or streamlight to make a tlr 8 non railed for double stack 1911s we will really be cooking then. I'm thinking a red dot would be nice as well
I got their .45 acp and their 22TCM/9mm. At that point I ran out of money for that month, so I went for their standard 10mm. That left me enough to buy a 44 mag taurus with a ported barrel. The 10mm will be just my hunting pistol. I like myMarlin 45-70 for hunting, so I like to have a fast semi with me just in case. You pistol is nise, but I have a used S&W 10mm in mind next. Always appreciate a video from a jarhead. Trained with some of your recon guys in Ft Benning in 1979, we renew our acquaintance in Ft Bragg. Jarheads needed some extra room for their 8 " guns. They are not known for their accuracy with that big gun. LOL. Thanks for another good video.
@@hrfunk I dispatched police, fire and ambulance back in the '80's and yes siree, Art Bell and his Coast to Coast show got me through many a midnight shift on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. After that it was too busy to listen to the a.m. band.
@@hrfunk The Coast to Coast show is still on but the local a.m. station in this region no longer carries it. But I'm working the day shift in a warehouse nowadays so no more midnight shifts on the console.
I am a fan of the no bushing and use a a coned bull barrel and a metal full length guide rod. I can fashion a paper clip into a simple tool to retain the spring for disassembly. And do away with the bushing wrench entirely.
Great looking pistol HR! I'm glad you could finally sate that thirst for the 1911 10mm. The RIA pistols seem to have gotten better in quality over the years, while others seem to be taking manufacturing short cuts that weigh on their former reputations. For example, I think COLT is one of those brands. The new Cobra I recently purchased is not at all like the older models, I'm not sure I'd invest in a new Delta Elite knowing what I know now, at the current price point. Judging from these results, I assume we'll see this gun in the next rounds of qualifying videos.
Thank you for the review. I thought that you looked familiar. I was running around MCAS New River around the same time with some specialty classes at Cherry Point. Also a PFC at the time :-) Semper Fi
@@hrfunk no just schools for Aircraft repair. Have you done a Michigan LE qual yet? Let me know and I will get some targets your way. Let us know how the RIA 10 mm works out. I am really thinking about getting one.
Hey Brother, nice pistol! I only have one real comment after having six Rock Island 1911's (I'm a fan) through my hands in the last 24 months, ranging from the lowly GI FS to the Tac-Ultra. Not one of them has come out of the box with a trigger heavier than 5 pounds, and most dropped a half-pound after break-in. So I think yours is out of spec. I've had to use RIA's service twice for repairs, and it has been cheerful, quick, and free in both cases. I think I'd just call RIA, get a return tag, and let them have a look at yours. Both my pistols were back in 10 days. Life is too short to fight a heavy 1911 trigger. Aside from that, you have a very cool pistol. I'm not usually a fan of tan pistols, but on that one, it works. Thanks for pointing out that it is a "no-bushing" pistol by the way. I usually change out full length guide rods with a GI setup, but it looks like on this pistol that wouldn't be possible. Good shooting!
Thanks Brother Tom! It was partly based on your past comments regarding RIA pistols that I took the plunge on this one. I think I’ll give this new 1911 a few more rounds and see how the trigger progresses. If it stays on the top side of 6 pounds, I’ll probably follow your advice and send it back for some TLC. Other than that (and the minor annoyance of the full length guide rod) I really like this pistol!
I have the RIA pro match ultra hc with the 6" bbl in 10 mm and I am Very satisfied with it , I am glad that I picked it over the Delta Elite it was about the same price range but I picked it because of it's 16 round capacity . I also have it's little sister the pro match ultra hc with the 5" bbl and it has not let me down . I think that for the money RIA is very hard to beat .
Hi Howard , i to love the 1911 i have a Dominion Arms 1911 made in China. 45 ACP with a trigger like butter. Never had a malfunction. Also have a GSG 1911 style in 22 great fun to shoot . My vote for the name of your new 1911 is ROCKEY , original eh.
great video .. I am more than likely going to buy a double stacked version of the weapon .. I would like to see how it stands up to some heavy buffalo bore or underwood ammo which are loaded close to the original 10mm specs.. I have watched many videos of this gun and this is the most comprehensive I have seen to date.. thank you
They had the Bren 10 before the Colt Delta Elite, with the help of Jeff Cooper, I remember wanting the Delta Elite, the 1st time I saw it, but never pulled the trigger per say, as I also didn't do with certain cult classic firearm's of it's time.
I always really wanted a Delta Elite. I guess I still do, but man those things are pricy! For now, I’m really liking this RIA for about half the price.
@@hrfunk it is a beautiful gun for sure, thinking about getting me a RIA 1911 in 9mm and 45, I always wanted a 1911 platform, but after Colts slap in the face, to the people, I pulled back, now at 51 figure pull the trigger now or never.
Whenever I hear a shooter say the pistol/rifle is doing fine this is shooter error I hit the subscribe button. Straight shooting is better than straight shooting.
Sig Sauer 10mm seems to be a more appropriate ammo to test with. Price is reasonable, very good power (approx 620 ftlbs), and has local availability (Academy Sports and Outdoors).
This is spooky HRFUNK, just picked up an RIA 22tcm/9mm yesterday. Very impressed, used your code to buy 2 extra mags from Optics Planet. First test fire later today.
That is a sweet 1911 very nice for me although I lost my love for the 1911 in the MEUSOC when we did a beach landing in Okinawa. I got out of the track hit the beach in the prone position got sand in the hammer area and later on doing drills my 1911 died! I literally had to break it down clean it because the trigger and hammer would not work no matter how hard I pressed the trigger and grip safety. Anyway I love the look of them but low capacity with what happen years ago I would never use one again for personal defense eventually years later when I could afford them I got into HK and gotta say for me its the way to go love the USP 45acp just a tank.
I just want to clarify I don't hate the 1911 its a good gun for what it was designed for over 100 yrs ago I do own 2x 1911 guns both Colt made. I don't want to insult or take away from anyone's video and myself I like 10mm might as well call it a Magnum round lol. Anyway it was my personal choice to walk away from it after my training it worried me alot that when I was sent to Somalia back in the 1990s it got me paranoid that I requested the M9 instead but I was issued that 1911 instead anyway when a Marine loses faith in his equipment that was were I made the mindsight change that all guns are tools that's where I started buying different guns and became THE GUN GUY! lol
10mm is uber. I have a Ruger SR1911-10mm. As all Rugers, it is build like a tank. Pretty much has the same features as your own. 5" bull barrel, target sight, same takedown, SS, satin finish, and two mags. I have fired my own full power loads (135gr JHP Underwood equivalent). This shoots nicer that my Glock 20SF. The Glock however has a 15rnd mag. 10mm....Love it! Enjoy yours.
Nice shooting HR! I was fortunate enough to pick up a Glock 20 this year as my first 10mm auto. It's big but shoots very well! Just recently tried some new hand loads with 180 gr copper plated bullets and Power Pistol powder. Runs well so far. Going to check velocities next time out. I may have to try a 1911 after I save up more $.... Thanks for the video!!!
@@hrfunk Stopped by the range today after work (Very warm today!) The load comprised of Starline brass, CCI 300 Large pistol primers, 8.2 gr Alliant Power Pistol powder, 180 gr Xtreme copper plated RNFP bullets seated to 1.25" OAL. 5 shot average 1223 fps measure with a Chrony model F-1. To compare, the S&B 180 gr FMJ factory ammo measured an average of 1080 fps and Magtech 180 gr FMJ factory ammo measured an average of 1150 fps. I will probably back down my load to 7.8 - 8.0 gr for everyday plinking loads if the pistol still runs well. The only pressure signs I see are the primers show a little more flattening then the factory loads. I hope this information is useful.
I had one of the first Colt delta elite 10mm 1911's in the 80's the frame cracked and I never owned another 10mm since .I was stationed at FT.Bragg ,NC back then.
I seem to remember some comments back around that time relating to the Delta Elite not standing up to the full power 10mm ammo all that well. Your experience seems to bear that out.
Nice video especially when you nailed the Tack! Great job on the rear sight adjustment also, assuming you went ◀️ with it? How 🔥 was it outside that day? Did you ever feel like the pistol was slipping with the CCI 200g? Lmk & thank you for your service, SIR

My early story is alot like yours. I drooled over that Delta Elite for a LONG time and like you have resisted buying one now that I do have the means. This does seem like a viable alternative. RIA seems that way on multiple of their weapons. Thanks for the great video!
You’re welcome! I don’t think I would say the FS Ultra is equal to the Delta Elite, but it’s a great pistol for the price. Thanks for watching!
Awesome looking 1911 10mm!
Thanks!
Excellent video HR... nice looking pistol.
Thank you!
Beautiful gun
Love my Rock Island 10mm
I’m right there with you. Mine just seems to get better and better.
Thinking about buying one. Very informative video thank you!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
if you have not got one yet just to let you know rock island now offers a 10mm GI model for 568 MSRP good luck on you quest
THE FUNK!
Good video..keep them coming!
I've always been a fan of the 10mm. RIA makes some solid 1911's for the price and yours looks to be no exception.Nice review as always.
Thank you Jim!
Just picked up one of these. Great video brother
Thank you! What do you think of your new pistol?
hrfunk I enjoy it but I have the same complaint as you...one mag isn't really enough
I have a Rock Island 1911 FS 9mm, i love that pistol.
Based on what I have seen with mine, I can understand why! Thanks for watching!
I like it. Seems like a solid gun.
It really is. I like it a lot!
Beautiful. Color theme reminds me of the Colt M45 they built for the USMC.
I thought the same thing!
Glad to see you back

Great video, nice gun.
Thank you!
That RIA 10mm is a very nice pistol. I purchased 3 Wilson 9rnd mags for my SR1911, 10mm.
Thanks. The RIA impresses me a lot. I got some Mec Gar mags for it and they run fine.
Those RRA guns are a great value.
I agree.
First of your vids I've seen....good vid
Thank you!
Watching your videos is kind of like watching the old PSA's from the 1950's in a good way :) .
I was tempted to buy a Glock, but since I already had the 1076, I held out for a 1911. In the end, I’m glad I did. Thanks for watching!
Ha, ha! Great minds think alike!
@@byronhamilton6061 thanks Byron, I also have an RIA GI super reliable less than400 bucks. Was wondering about recoil of 10mm? Best!
Very Cool 1911 10mm Hrfunk !!!!!!!! I also like the series 70 on my 1911's too Sir.
Thanks Jerry. I really like this one!
You’re welcome! I wonder how many of the younger YT crowd even knows about the .41 Magnum?
@@hrfunk if I say I haven’t heard of one would I be young…
Ha, ha! Yep!
I purchased one two years ago, albeit a bit pricey, but I'm very happy with it.
I think RIA is buiding some really good 1911's. For the price, they're hard to beat.
@@hrfunk yes sir.. now if we could get crimson trace to make laser grips or streamlight to make a tlr 8 non railed for double stack 1911s we will really be cooking then. I'm thinking a red dot would be nice as well
I understand what you’re saying, but I’m a traditionalist when it comes to the 1911. I like it the way JMB designed it.
@ no
I got their .45 acp and their 22TCM/9mm.
You’re welcome Tom. Thanks for watching!
I liked Art Bell and his "Coast to Coast" show. There were some very interesting topics.
That show got me through many a long and weary midnight shift!
@@hrfunk I dispatched police, fire and ambulance back in the '80's and yes siree, Art Bell and his Coast to Coast show got me through many a midnight shift on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. After that it was too busy to listen to the a.m. band.
Patman Crowley I miss Art and his Coast to Coast show!
I’ve made a similar tool myself. Even so, I personally prefer the simplicity of the original design when it comes to disassembly/reassembly.
It will absolutely show up in one of those videos! I am trying to decide which one to use it for.
ILOVE MY RIA 10mm Tac ultra.. Man O man.. it shoots sweet..a little trigger job and yer good to go..PEW PEW PEW. 🔫🔫🔫
Great video. I agree on the magazine count. My Sig p229 and my Taurus G3C both shipped with 3 mags each. Too bad more gun company’s don’t do that.
Yep. It's really appreciated when manufacturer does that.
I would like to start collecting 1911's as well.
There are a lot of them out there. The 1911 in its many variations would make for a great collection!
Last couple years, this is what I've been doing, collecting 1911 10mm handguns

Now you done it Hr ! I’ve been wanting a 10mm lol Fine marksmanship K
Ha, ha! This is a good one!
Great video I have always been interested and wanted a 10mm just never pulled the trigger
If you get a chance to try out one of the RIA pistols, I think you’ll be impressed. Thanks for watching!

You're welcome! Thanks for watching.

You are right. For the price, these RIA pistols are impressive.
Absolutely gorgeous finish on that weapon. But I only do double-stack. I'll probably pick up their TAC Ultra HC-10, sadly in plain black.

I have the 10 MM bug also first a SA 1911 and now waiting on a S&W Model 610 , the 10 MM is a good round
Yes it is. Like I said in the video, it's really a semi-auto version of the 41 Magnum.

I’m glad you like the HK. I hope it serves you well for a long time. Semper Fi!
I already do! Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment!
You’re welcome. Let me know what velocity you’re getting with that load please!
Thanks. I was hoping the 5” barrel would break 1200 FPS with the 180 grain bullet. With my 4.25” 1076, that velociywas a bit of a challenge.
