      Carlo Ancelotti, as an experienced and successful manager, is known for his ability to adapt his tactics based on the team he’s facing. His recognition of Manchester City’s strengths and Real Madrid’s weaknesses, and adjusting his strategy accordingly, shows his tactical acumen.
      Having the ability to turn perceived weaknesses into strengths, and to exploit the opponent’s strengths to one’s advantage, is a mark of a great tactician. It’s a delicate balancing act that requires deep understanding of the game, the teams, and the players.

    City generated 2.7 xG in 33 shots over 120 minutes. That’s less than .1 xG per shot. That’s less than 10% chance to score per shot. City had 2 quality chances all game: 1 from a mistake from Rudiger and 1 they generated from their play via Doku and Akanji, but KBD missed. The idea that Man City battered RM is just false. RM forced City wide all game, and City had no ideas on how to break down RM.
    Edit: Some of you pointed out my math was wrong so I had to double check. I did in fact miss a zero for the percentage. But that is now fixed. Regardless, City generated less than .1 xG (.08 xG) per shot in average which is the point. XG is an extremely flawed stat, but based the volume of shots, I believe the argument can still stand: the idea that City “pummeled” RM is simply not backed up by any data, or even simply watching the game. We can keep going down this rabbit hole and point out that out of City’s 33 shots only 9 were on target mind you, which is another set of data and statistics I don’t want to get into. You can look up xG vs xGot if you’re interested.

    has Pep ever considered that his strategy is not the best way to beat elite teams? if you side pass and back pass so much that it makes you press resistant, it forces the other team to defend deeper and deeper until they've parked the bus. so now your ability to create good chances goes down significantly. if you played more direct and played riskier passes, you'd give up the ball more but the other team would push forward more, and thus give you more space in transition to attack into. and counter attacks seem like they'd work really well when you have players like Doku, Haaland, Foden, and De Bruyne. but i guess Pep would rather have 70% possession, create 2-3 good chances, lose, and then get to complain that they were the better team even though they lost.

    If Real Madrid had gone down they would’ve played differently. but you’re a goal up after 12 minutes and given you had to be beat through long shots last game, there is no need to attack if you can avoid them this time.
    City had more possession but they kept doing side passes and struggled to create a clear chance. Real Madrid did give away possession easily, but there was clearly a lack of trust in nacho on the ball that it was better to kick the ball out and try to win a duel in the air than to start from the back like ancelotti usually does. If you try to play back and forth like in the first match you don’t know if you’ll be up 4-0 or down 1-4 at the end of the match.
    They absorbed the pressure well, and even when debruyne scored there was no need to chance tactics when you can tell city was having trouble breaking through. Lunin had 8 saves, but they were mostly shots straight to him

On top of that Real Madrid lost their number 9 and half their defensive back line due to injury. They didn’t have much to work with yet they still got through. • @erodriguezx10
      @erodriguezx10 Před 13 dny

      It's a bad penalty. That's why it's risky to shoot down the middle the risk of having your shot easily blocked. So you need to juke the keeper out with your movement and run up if you don't and he stays still it's embarrassing and it's a bad penalty.

    When you play Real Madrid, you don't just play against the 11 on the field. You play against the history, the gigantic aura that screams champions, Di Stefano, Gento, Puskas, Zidane, Carlos, Figo, Cristiano, Benzema.. That kicks in, the winning mentality. That is huge in games like these.
    Plus, people tend to forget that Real Madrid is top of La Liga, in the UCL Semi, won the Spanish Supercup, without a number 9, with the backline and GK shuffled throughout the season. Ancelotti gets so little credit. Praising Pep, Klopp, Mou is all fine, but Ancelotti deserves the same attention or even above. The guy is a legend, textbook for future coaches.

    The side of "they asked to come off" that jumps out at me is that Pep presents himself as so passive in the matter. He's the manager, and the manager makes those decisions.
    Plus, he's maybe the most micromanaging manager around; his players get chewed out if they do anything outside of his plan, but he talks like they told him they wanted out of the game and he was helpless to do anything but make the subs.

  • @gumsurim

    Lunin clearly stated in a post match interview that they expected that at least on city player will go for the middle/panenka it before the shootouts started and because of his game type, they decided to gamble on Bernado Silva. The rest is history. Experience and hardwork won it for Madrid
