The sequel needs to be 2 hours of only Sub Zero fighting Scorpion, while Kano yells insults at them.
If they make it 4hrs long like justice league and introduce more characters...I would pay so much money to see that happen
I don't think they will bring sub zero back as sub zero. He will probably return as noob saibot and then they might introduce a new Sub zero (Bi-hans brother Kuai Liang)

I loved this movie. It had its flaws, but it was still hella entertaining. And the CGI was better than I expected. Can't wait for more!!!

I do love that once Kung lao died this pushed Liu to be "the chosen one" in terms of abilities and pushing his limits with the bicycle kick into his flame dragon fatality. Also I'm not gonna lie it was pretty fucking anime of them to have Liu Kang's headband be the red cloth around kung lao's hat. Reminds me of bardock without the blood staining it

See little stuff like that, stupid critics dnt see or acknowledge...they worry bout stupid plot holes..yeah they r there and yeah some stuff in the story is like wtf...but little details like that shows how much they thought of everything.

True. He is still my best MK Character. Beside Kitana, i often use Subzero Character. He is amazing.
This is the best reaction to this movie that I've seen so far. An obvious fan of the good ole games that was having fun. The games' lore takes liberty in killing people and bringing them back, so I'd expect some if not all of your favorite characters here are coming back for the sequel. Also, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the story so let me fill you in just in case - the first Sub Zero, Bi Han, was an evil person that killed Scorpion's family and him as well, (additional spoiler, that's not really true, but let's roll with it) and Scorpion killed him for revenge, and Bi Han's younger brother, Kuai Liang, took up the mantle of Sub Zero after these events and this Sub Zero (Bi Han) became Noob Saibot.

Awesome reaction and review, spot on!! I too felt the same way brother. I had a ton of fun watching it. Going this weekend to watch it for the third time. Yeah, it had its flaws here and there but overall I truly enjoyed it. I also like the fact that this was a prequel to the tournament, now we have something to look forward on the next film.
BTW, I also believe Subzero should be in the next Conjuring movie, LMAO!đđđ

I think the task they had with this crazy universe, the runtime of the movie (shouldâve been 2hrs plus) and Covid..theyâve done so well and hopefully learn from it. Honestly take all these characters and put them in horror movies...imagine Kano in a serial killer horror film đđ

I agree. I think in THIS first movie, you got to meet the characters, and more will be introduced in MK2 like Johnny Cage and Kitana. But I'm hoping they bring them back so they're all back for the actual start of the game!!

I love this movie so much as a Mortal Kombat hardcore fan, at least back when I was younger. Now I'm back on the MK wagon. Thanks for the awesome reaction, as always
I agree with what you said about Mileena and Kano being underutilized. Remembering Mileena, I do know there were several "clones" from the flesh pits. Kano..... not sure about bringing him back, but I'd love to see him (Josh Lawson) come back with more of the metallic face implant. I personally don't think what Kano killed was actually "Reptile", Shang Tsung referred it his as a "reptilian". I am also interested about Kung Lao. Crazy they killed him off for real, but I do find it interesting that Kung Lao's hat teleported with Liu Kang being grabbed by Cole. Might be cool to bring back Max Huang as The Great Kung Lao..... would totally work. Regarding Sub-Zero..... totally was set up to bring Noob. Honestly, they could cast Joe Taslim as both Noob and Kuai Liang. They could do (Noob) totally masked, all black (with a shadow type effect, similar to the portal effects in this movie), and Sub-Zero's brother in the blue suit that looked very similar to the way they did sub-zero in this movie, and later have sub-zero take off the mask and reveal his identity as Kuai Liang. A totally cool set-up would be a Joe Taslim interaction between Noob and Kuai Liang (not sure how that would work, but would be cool if he played both characters). I also agree this movie seemed more as an entire set-up for multiple options for sequels. I hope future movies get longer runtimes and bigger budgets, and it would be beneficial to try and decide in advance if it will be a planned 5 movie run, or 7, or 3...... whatever..... because then it gives an idea of how to tell the complete story over a "timeline" scenario. With all the history of Mortal Kombat it was completely unrealistic to even attempt to tell the story (especially introducing a new character - Cole - and the Scorpion/Sub-Zero back story..... not counting the deception by Quan Chi) in 2 hours...... just not a realistic task. Having said that, I'll say I loved the movie overall, probably a 7.5 for me. I sincerely hope future installments get many of the same actors (and hopefully all of them to return) and a crew (writer, director and executive producers) that is willing to pay proper respect to the franchise (which amounts to money and time spent on a script, good direction and good practical and special effects). This movie was an experiment to see if there was an audience in the "r" rated spectrum and was an experime t to see if it would earn money, and the answer was a resounding "YES" on both accounts.

You forget Quan Chi...is a sorcerer who can resurrect the dead...so they can bring back Kano and Maleena. I didn't expect Academy Award winning acting...so I was mentally prepared for subpar acting, but the action and character designs and story were very good. I personally have it a 7/10. Plus agreed to the best fighter video game movie...so far.

Sub Zero is coming back as Noob Saibot. He and Kano carried this film, with Kung being so perfect in the film. I knew he was gonna die, but I was hoping it would be in a sequel.

From original storyline, bi han sub zero became noob saibot after scorpion killed him. Don't forget that shokan warrior's not just prince goro alone. They have kintaro and sheeva as well. I think people just have way too high of expectations..Iâm just happy this movie entertained me and made this universe the way it was supposed to be made..so happy!!
I thought the MAIN character in the movie was INCREDIBLE "dull" but besides that i LOVED the movie ! ;) (Agree Kano & Sub Zero were the DRIVE of this movie)
Some say that josh lawson is still in physical rehabilitation after the injuries he suffered to his shoulders and back carrying this entire film.

I liked the movie, but I did not like that they killed Kung Lau that quick. I hope they bring more characters in the second movie.

@@justtrustash its just like mortal kombat legacy with kano, it's why she stabbed him in that eye, he's gonna get the implant in place of that missing eye & mileena is Shane's creation, he can just make another one just like he made her the first time, all that have to do to bring back goro since he took the body in the end is show the soul chamber in the next one, he can heal & bring goro back to life, with sub-zero he will either bring him back as sub-zero with the soul chamber too or he will become noob saibot

@@abrimfulofasha i don't think Cole with died in the next one i don't think he will die till at least the third movie when shao khan comes, probably get killed trying to attack shao khan when he tries invading earthrealm, I think all the earthrealm fighters will survive the tournament but then after the next movie some will get killed maybe show motaro killing johnny like in mk3 in the 3rd or 4th movie, all I know is they better not skip over kintaro again, he needs to be on the big screen finally like I would like goro to come back in the next one but wouldn't be mad if they save him for another movie & have kintaro fight in the tournament instead of goro, I hope they bring stryker in one of these movies so I can see one of the bad guys do a fatality on him hopefully it would be either kintaro, goro or sheeva, I need to see one of their fatalities done on somebody

i didn't grow up with mortal kombat and didn't really watch any of the movies, but this movie was fucking awesome and i could watch it over and over again because it's so badass fuck yeaaaaaa

I thought they purposely killed off Kano to make room for Johnny Cage since he's a big personality and would serve as the comedic relief. But if they had both of them together in the same movie, then that would be dope. I'm salty as hell about Kung Lao but I understand that there's more to it and whenever he dies in the games, it's always used to push the story forward. Also, not sure if you noticed but Cole's armor comes from the bracelet around his wrist that his daughter made for him. He's essentially the human embodiment of perseverance in the movie and his family is the thing that drives him to keep pushing. That's kind of the message they're trying to get across. But glad you enjoyed it overall! I remember your reaction to the trailer and you had some high expectations lol

The critics may not see how good they are or how much goes into what they do to be that good but, that's what we are here for. SCREW THE CRITICS, I LOVED THIS MOVIE...
For those complaining about Cole Young, people seem to forget all the DLC and console exclusive characters in the previous two games; the animated film Scorpion's Revenge really helps flesh this out
Joe taslim is only 40 , maayn i watched it twice already and still gonna watcj it in cinemas..when hiro sanada was crawling to his baby đđ never thought i can tear up at a martial art movie lol...the bad guys, milena and kabal excellent. Some silly plots but i dnt care...i got blood, gore, awesome fights. The end fight...all of it...if it had been like 2 hours the story could hv been straightened out. But hey it was awesesome

As a massive MK fan I was kind of disappointed by the movie, they didn't even have a tournament and don't get me started on Reptile and Nitara.
Kano and Sub saved this movie.
Dude I always loved bi Han as sub zero and when he became noob saibot that put fear into my heart when I was little so bi Han death at the end shows heâs gonna be more stronger, more dangerous, and more scary as noob in the next movie

So i loved the movie. Now thinking about some of the things you said, about Cole, I would agree. Now what if, Cole's Character was made so that he could bring Scorpion back. Since he left, he was the gateway to bring him back. As they could use Cole to get the other champions together. Just a thought. Also great reaction on this one.

If anything the next one is really the make or break movie. Yes some things were a little off; but this movie was very good and the budget was small and they received a ton of push back.

Mate for the budget, the set design to outfits and cgi was perfect!! I think this world is so tricky with so many characters that it needs to be a 3-4hr movie but also considering Covid, this movie was amazing. But mate youâre legend, thank you for the kind words, means a lot!

@@justtrustash my only complaint is the fact that coles daughter looks 10 years younger than him, the actor lewis tan is 34, and the actress playing his daughter is 13, but she looks like a 20 year old, i only knew it was coles daughter when she said "dad"

I found the beginning great and then it slowly started to go down after the film focused on our main protagonist.. Would have loved it if the film focused more on Scorpion instead given the intro.. Also the trailer really makes you anticipate so much more from the fight scenes, expecting more character signature moves etc... And the fact that Kitana one of MKs most badass characters did a cameo without much screen time sucked.. I don't know man, maybe Im just expecting too much from MK..
As a huge MK fan i really wanted this movie to be good. The special effects, costumes, casting, gore and fights are great. But everything else an most importantly the acting, script and story/plot is awful. Also the worst part of the movie is Cole :( I love the lore so much in MK an this movie shit all over it, maybe apart from the first 10 minutes (an still we didnt get a Quan Chi reveal)
The fact so much of the movie is cut out here kinda speaks for itself. And I don't buy the excuse no one is here for the lore as there is some really rich lore for MK that they Kompletely ignored here that would have changed the movie. Still I doubt all the characters we saw "Die" here will stay dead, they will likely be returned by magic for the tournament proper.

Cole Young was not so bad he was just a straight action character.the movie was a good small introduction.what I did not like - the biggest mistake was the trailer they showed almost all the movie.secont- the short fights they killed 2 important characters very
quickly-kabal was my favorite and Mileena. did not give time to combat skills to enjoy the mortal kombat culture.they should justify the characters a little more. I hope for a better sequel to be justified.7\10
Yesss!! Mileena needed her own time to shine, but this world has so many characters that it would be hard to give them their on time. I think what we needed is for the movie to be 3hrs long so we could spend more time with these characters!

Cole is the audience POV and heâs the new guy so of course he wonât fit In at first but after awhile and if Ed Boon decides to do Tie in Dlc and adds Cole to the games than that will help a lot

What makes mortal kombat great are the kombats NOT a story or a drama. IF YOU WENT TO SEE THIS MOVIE JUST FOR THE DRAMA AND STORY ALONE YOU WENT TO SEE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF MOVIE BUT NOT MORTAL KOMBAT. This would be a soft millennial issue

I just watched this again on netflix haha..good movie..prefer the original mortal kombat films..other than scorpion and sub zero i thought the character selections was a bit off for the good guys..and the acting was stiff...the one who used hes hat as a weapon when he introduced him self and music came on in background felt a bit cringey lol..
Check out a movie called Dog Soldiers, it's so good. Brutal action, terrifying enemies, QUALITY Acting.
Hypothetically just finished working on MK2. Allegedly, 50x more brutal than this 1.
I thought the weakest characters were raiden and shang tsung. I loved the 95 versions of them so they did not live up to the original in my opinion. cole young is okay for me. I think they need characters of different personalities. He's more of a character initially with low confidence and it builds up as he learns/uses his new powers and finds out his history relating to hanzo's clan.
Honestly Cole young was the weakest, we didnât need him..Johnny cage wouldâve been perfect. Imagine if we got a throwback and a longer fight scene between Johnny cage and Goro đ«

@@justtrustash I also felt on screen mileena did not "feel" like the in game portrayal and not because she isn't asian. she lacked the mannerism, snake like voice, and the actress lacked proper martial arts background so her fight scenes were quick cuts. they could have replaced her with any other character and it would have felt the same. I also felt they under utilized the main feature that sets her apart - her teeth. It was toward the very end when we actual see her mouth open, but they could have made her do more damage to cole with the teeth rather than just a bite to his daggers. and she struck cole's armor rather than his head which defeats the purpose. I would have liked to see mileena take a chunk out of cole's exposed neck with her teeth. but I know I'm being nit picky and you cant ask for everything.
@@abrimfulofasha yup his acting was stoic and bad, I agree. actually the only actors who were decent were sanada, lawson, and taslim. everyone else came off as amateurish, which I think most were before this movie.

Kano stole the whole movie hahaha and for Cole he`s just a person that needs anwsers...in the first one that was Raiden who explains everything but here is Cole that needs anwnsers and also same thoughts here he doesnt realy fit in the story but we will see what they will do with him in the sequels...dont know sure but most of them will come back
But yeah i appreciate everything what they did...they Extended the Mk Universe and i hope this has a long tail

The whole movie was below average at best and a slap in the face to the real MK fans. Hanzo/Scorpion only had one child, not two... and none of them survived which means Cole should never have existed. Cole was a boring character anyway and was unnecessary. The whole idea of the dragon marking and arcana was dumb. I mean Kano getting his laser eye and Jax with his autobot arms because of "arcana"??? *Shao Khan voice* Don't make me laugh. Most of the fights felt rushed and low budget. Subzero is a bada** and so is Scorpion. Sonya with her extra unneeded acrobatics. Kano was hilarious and pretty much stole the show. Jax vs Subzero was good. Scorpion vs Subzero was awesome, with the exception of Cole butting in. I loved the fatalities. But the bad parts of the movie outweighed the good. Overall, this movie wasn't that good. The 1995 MK movie was still better.
So if you like this movie youâre not a real MK FAN đ relax mate, Movie was definitely not below average đ yes it has dumb parts..but it had way more positives than negatives. I do agree with you, sonya, Cole were terrible but fatalities, most of the fights, how amazing the sets and CGI looked, subzero, scorpions outfits..subzero cgi freezing Jax arms and bullets..there was so much to love! I think this movie does need a better director and writer to bring the best out of everyone we just had a first time director so hopefully they will listen to us and improve sequel
