- I love the X-Men. They are my favorite comic book team. I've watched every X-Men show; animated and live action. I've seen all the X-Men movies. I have opinions on all things. Chris Claremont is king. Grant Morrison was his heir apparent. Cyclops is better with Emma. Storm was the best leader the X-Men ever had. All that.
And I've played a lot of the X-Men video games; my favorites being the two X-Men Legends games. But I'd never played X-Men Destiny; a notoriously rushed mediocre beat em up by Silicon Knights.
Until now. This is more than just a review for an old X-Men game. It's also an exploration into how this game was made. And I pontificate on the tragedy of the fact that to this day this mediocre game is the last X-Men Game ever made. How... how did that happen?
So join me in experiencing a rare and lost video game; X-Men Destiny.
...ok. With that out of the way let's do my normal random thoughts.
Eric Clapton.
Great musician. Great guitarist. But is he the 'Greatest Musician' of all Rock and Roll?
...well. No. That's not a thing anyone is. But Eric Clapton is currently the only inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to be inducted 3 times. First in 1992 as a member of The Yardbirds. Then again the following year for being in the band Cream. And then finally in 2000 he was inducted for his solo career.
Does the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame think Clapton is that amazing? Or did they just keep forgetting that he's already an inductee? For what it's worth I love me some Eric Clapton so if anyone got inducted three times... I'm not upset it's him.
But now you know. Eric Clapton's the only 3 time inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And that's something you can totally forget about later and vote him into a fourth induction.

Mike here... I'm just surprised you didn't link to 'Cocaine' after all that.
#XMenDestiny #Marvel #XMen - Hry
It’s actually sad this is the final x-men game because honestly this game had so much potential to be epic.
This game is the embodiment of “yeah I’ll do the assignment the night before” except it’s more “I’ll do the assignment on walk to school cause my parents are against me doing any homework.”
Unreal Engine ate my homework!
While obviously not incredible in terms of writing, my first run with Adrian felt really satisfying. Having him join the x-men and move on from his past felt really good.
2:20 I was not expecting that.
45:55 I guess Iceman's freezing powers did their job too well.
Can tell you watched the whole video. Thanks dude.
I just recently bought a Xbox because my my other one broke and I decided to reply this game and I forgot how much fun it was plus the ragdoll physics makes the combat funner to play....also at one mission near the end I watched quicksilver for 15mins fight endless purifiers and he was sending them flying left and right.......I didn't realize how much I wanted a quicksilver game till now......I miss games like this were you get superpowers, beat people up and just have fun
Man with all the Marvel games that came out during the Xbox 360/PS3 era I’m surprised Disney hasn’t hired some developer to rerelease these games as some kinda HD remastered collection.
Exactly..smdh
I love X-Men Destiny.
It’s too bad Silicon Knights did a terrible thing to give us X-Men Destiny.
It’s too bad we never got a sequel.
i REALLY loved this! i love deep dive retrospectives into games. i know videos like these take a lot of time to make, but i'll watch, like and comment on every single one!
So glad i found your channel....now, Onto The Backlog!!!
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the channel.
Going to be honest X-Men Destiny is a great concept for a X-Men game being a new mutant learning to use their powers and choosing to join the X-Men or Brotherhood.
And oddly enough I would say the Infamous series is what X-Men Destiny could’ve been Infamous have people developing superpowers,a morality system and there’s a bit of time travel like what X-Men have frequently have.
In short Infamous is the best X-men games change my mind.
Man, I can’t wait till the X-Men get a new video game. The fact that this was the last game we get from the X-Men series is pathetic. I wouldn’t mind an X-Men game from Platinum Games, CD Projekt Red, Insomniac, or, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, Ubisoft.
Great video guys, keep it up. I had zero clue about all the drama behind this game, just that it had none of the love I was used to seeing from my x men games.
Thanks bud!
Thanks for the very detailed review 👏🏻
I wish I never lost this game, it was really fun.
You'd be the first person I know that played this game on purpose.
@@everydayismidnight5508 well I got it as a present, never really knew what it was going on about.
@@jeshonloonskin4176 Ah, gotcha.
Commit piracy
Yeah I thought the narrative implications of the X-Genes were somewhat weird, and originally I had a thought process similar to you, but given what I read in the game’s guide book, it seems they are meant to be more like our mutant abilities are evolving? At least, that’s how I interpreted it from what I read.
Interesting. Reminds me of when games use to come with manuals filled with lore you could read through. That would have added a little more context.
@@everydayismidnight5508 Yeah the manual itself for the Xbox 360 version really don't have any lore stuff aside from the normal descriptions of the base abilities. The guide book I think by Bradygames is actually pretty good, and in my opinion, a rather fun guide, compared to the other Bradygames guides I own. Gives some interesting character contexts and whatnot. It does state, that Pixie's teleportation is magic based, so the fact the Purifiers have that tech a bit...bizarre? But then again if they can access magical abilities in that way, it wouldn't be completely inconsistent if, say, Juggernaut's abilities could be copied given the magical basis for them (assuming the X-Genes are stolen mutant powers rather than evolution).
played this game for the first time this year, even got a platinum trophy on PS3, it wasn't all bad. although I don't think I'll play it ever again (unskippable cutscenes and dialogues kill any replayability for me)
the root of all problems with this game is, its whole dev cycle was a disaster and it shows. on one hand, its kinda miracle that it even got released, on the other - if I would've bought it on release for full price, yeah, I'd be pissed too lol
Which side would you choose ? I honestly can see both sides of the conflict. Equality is important. But...well, you know how history goes regarding evolution.
Excellent review I hope you reach 1,000 subscribers you deserve to be paid for this quality work
You're too kind. Thank you so much.
@@everydayismidnight5508 just finished your DA2 review and it was excellently done my man, I would cream my jeans if you'd want to do a collab
@@TheBrevosidy When we get to the point where we release more than 4 videos a year we might be capable of doing that kind of content. Thanks again for the comments.
@@everydayismidnight5508I also do a podcast called Choice Words that it'd be cool to have you on we just discuss different aspects of Rpgs, but I totally understand if not. thanks for replying, good luck with your channel man I'll continue watching whenever you do upload something 😁
Honestly X-Men Destiny would have been awesome as an Xoom style game!
I had my fun but obsidian should take the reins for a new xmen game
Right!?!
first real game for the ps3 for me, plat it and never looked back at it, good thing kid me knew it wasn't worth the time.
I remember I rented this game from Redbox when I was a kid and I fucking beat it twice with both endings and got the platinum trophy in like 6 to 8 hours
It's such a short game. Made reviewing it that much easier.
@@everydayismidnight5508 oh god I can only imagine I was so disappointed lol
@@solikeletsbenerdy I can't prove it. But I swear this campaign was slapped together in only a few weeks to a handful of months. All knowledge of the development supports this though.
Keep reviewing Marvel games
Will do, sir.
you. deserve. more. subscribers.
Thank. You.
I played this mess of a game once...and once was enough
Sigh please no. I have no interest at all in creating my oN character. Just lemme play with these iconic badasses
If you weren't such a southern, alt-right loony, you would understand the real core issue with the game. The. Truck. Was. Grey. They never painted it red. That's why the game failed. Simple as that. As the Reverand Johnny Mnemonic Cochran once said, if the truck is grey, the game don't play.
This escalated quickly.
