I built that in the 60s. I displayed it on my dresser. At some point I wanted to make it look like it was doing a burnout. I got some cotton and arranged it behind the rear tires. I thiught it was too white so I tried to singe it with a lighter and started a small fire on my dresser.
I've built 2 of these in my life, and I have a 3rd waiting in the box.... the Willys is one of those iconic cars that just grabs ya. I feel the same way about the Studebaker Avanti. Your build is awesome and any collector would be proud. Thanks
great build , thanx again , for doin 'er justice...This was the 1st kit that my Dad and I built together , when I was 4 yrs old in 1969...great "master modeler " kit....cant wait , to chk out...the next ROR,build / review vid.....kooool
Bric, This was a custom mixed automotive lacquer. Some light blue with 10% silver metallic added but you can do the same with any light blue paint. Just add silver a little at a time to brighten it up. -PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
Loven your channel! I'm a big Lamborghini Countach nut 🤓 and a big fan of Japanese kits so would you please do a review and build up of a fujimi 1/16 Countach, please!!!
Hi Doug. I’m just getting in to modelling, so trying to pickup knowledge from your excellent videos. Just a thought though, as you talk through you’re still shots, could you add arrows to highlight the parts you’re talking about? Also, could you show before / after shots in the painting, prior to the sub-assembly PS. I just picked this kit up to add to my stash, so I’ll carry on watching. Thanks very much 🙏🏻

This is not a kit for the faint-hearted. This kit was first released in 1964 and is not substantially changed since. Parts are small and delicate, and there's a lot of them. The kit should be built slowly in subassemblies, with plenty of test-fitting before gluing. Working features are fragile, generally uncooperative, and detract from the scale accuracy of the subject, so if you want a scale replica, or a weekend project without too many surprises, don't buy this kit. I found a gel-type CA ('superglue') cement perfect for the 2-piece vinyl tires; after the cement is dry, put the tires in the freezer overnight and they will be hard enough to sand smoothly without removing the tread or chewing up the vinyl. Cheers.
GEL-type, as opposed to the liquid products. I buy from the dollar store, as I don't see any advantage in the much more expensive, designer products sold in hobby stores.
I love the vintage light blue plastic moldings from the 60's...have a couple of them...awesome build...just beautiful...
