    Idk for sure, but judging by the shape and price of those pods they're probably Porcellio scaber or Porcellio Laevis. Giant Spanish isopods (Porcellio magnificus) are thinner in shape and are usually far more expensive.

    Hello, I had a Isopod and his tank was high enough that he didn't need a lid for it and after 2 perfectly fine weeks my Isopod went missing after my investigation I found a spider on a spider web right next to my Isopod's food and his favorite area to relax. Now I'm thinking the the spider ate him even though the spider was smaller. Do you know how I can prevent this from happening again?

    Let's play a game. Drink everytime you see someone mention something about isopod hours.

  • @bloomsbeautifulbugs406

    'Giant Orange' is a misnomer. These pods are fairly normal sized for terrestrial isopods, & even in their own genus they aren't larger than ordinary. It's best if you call them by the name 'Spanish Orange' isopods to remove confusion. People that label them 'Giant Orange' isopods often do not include the species, adding even more to the naming confusion. That said, you are quite right, having a backup culture is good if you are doing a bioactive. Humidity levels depends on the species. Some like it VERY humid, some like it VERY low humidity. It's always best to offer a moisture gradient. That way, the isopods can hydro-regulate as needed.

  • @theginjaninja132
    @theginjaninja132 Před 4 lety

    I have some and as far as im aware they are just an orange morph of a common Spanish species that has been selectively bred to be more orange than you would normally find in the wild.

Pruinosus “orange”, Armadillidium Vulgare “Orange vigor”, Armadillidium Maculatum “zebra”, Armadillidium Granulatum, And Porcellio Scaber “morph mix” and I’ve got thousands of dwarf whites isopods. I love them

    Leopard gecko I believe these guys can actually work in a drier setup as long as there are a decent amount of biodegradables like leaves and veggies but you will have to replenish the biodegradables when they begin to get lower in a drier setup of course so you can use them with leopard geckos

      a bit of a mix, some were from internet reptile, though some of the plants do arrive a bit damaged tbh, so a lot of the time i will go to my local garden centre where i know they dont spray them with anything. Then I remove all the soil, wash off the roots, and pop them in the tank. Sometimes you will get things like fungus gnats that happen to just come along with new plants, which is a pain, but yeah have a look around, i bought a couple plants from wilkinsons before too haha

How often should I feed it? should I be worried if it hasn’t pooped yet? and I have a calci dish in the tank for it but I’ve only seen it lick it up once, is it normal for it to not lick up calcium often? i have an question about them, i have this terrarium and i put some pillbugs in them, i have this one branch that goes up high, it's the highest point of the terrarium, my pillbugs are most of the time all on the top of the branch, i don't know why they do that cuz i thought they would crawl under the ground or in the little hidehole i made for them, maybe you have an answer to that?

      i wonder if they're nibbling on the wood. I mean we call them woodlice here, as they tend to like breaking down rotting wood, and they may be doing that to your branch. Im sure they wont do too much damage though. You could always add moss, and more wood on the floor to encourage them to live there. Also are you feeding them them anything like custodian fuel? they may be a little hungry if they dont have much food to break down/eat :)

    Hi i am soon to get a leopard gecko and did lots and lots of research but there’s one thing i am not shure about. And that is do i need a thermostat for my heatmat? Im getting my setup first before i get my gecko so i can see how i need to monitor it and stuff and maybe get some things later on before i burn my gecko lol. And do i need to have my heatmat on 24/7?

      Yes, you need a thermostat. You can turn it down to 80 at night, but you don’t need to :)

      it might be a waiting game. The cat should find them. If ive ever accidentally got a stray cricket in the room my cat will always find it for me.
