      @@mugiwaranoluffy_8408 If you look at his attitude and the way he plays, sure, but I don't believe any significant character and sports anime actually fits the criteria to be "the curse of the wasted potential". The closest would probably be Nishinoya but he's more an example of someone who does things and happens to be good at them rather than someone who could be great but chose not to. Curse of a wasted potential would probably be someone like Aomine had he actually chosen to quit rather than keep going, or Murasakibara tbh, but that person would have to be extraordinarily talented and simply leave

    Dude's so amazing he has to stop training to not ruin the sport he loves for himself.
    And he loves the sport so much he holds back so that his opponents don't come out of the match hating basketball.
    That could have easily been a cookie-cutter cocky character but ends up being the embodiement of passion, taking the concept to a whole new level.

    One can say that Saitama's dilemma is very much similar to Aomine's. They dedicate so much for a goal only to be demotivated cuz they kinda broke a level cap and there's no fun playing on easy mode.
    And... it takes comrades to get them out of that slump. Aomine had Kuroko and strong rivals and Saitama has - though not really by choice - people like Genos, Fubuki, and King to keep him sane (which is kinda ironic cuz of how they can drive him crazy).

    You may not know this but I have something somewhat poignant point to add.
    Tracy McGrady was an extremely talented basketball player that was drafted out of high school. Basketball was literally in his blood, as his older cousin was Vince Carter. One of the most athletically gifted dunkers and players in NBA History.
    Tracy McGrady was long, about 6'8 or 6'9, but was quick, had great handles, and there wasn't anything on the basketball court that he couldn't do. He could dunk, pass, shoot, rebound, play defense, etc. He was an amazing player and at one point considered one of, if not, THE best player in the league during his prime.
    However, he could never get out of the first round. It was said that his teams weren't great, or that he did "too much" on the court so his teammates innately would take a step back and kind of "get out of his way" which in turn hindered them in the long run since they became dependent on him. But in actuality, one of his coaches had something to say about him.
    Van Gundy, speaking Friday during the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston, said McGrady failed to maximize his potential and didn't ascribe to the theory that achieving greatness requires 10,000 hours of practice.
    "Tracy McGrady was 1,000 hours of practice," Van Gundy said. "He should be a Hall of Fame player. His talent was otherworldly. He was given a leg up in the race against other players."
    "I like a lot of things about Tracy McGrady. I just wish I could have changed his practice habits and his mentality."

      How do you not mention the injuries at all? They were his defining trait along with with basketball skill. But never once was he considered the best in the game. Kobe, Shaq, amd Duncan were always better. Also he has never the leader. He wasn't the alpha on any team he was on. He was almost always the best player on the team but never the leader. Trust me when I say that him not working as hard as a Kobe or Duncan has pretty much nothing to do with how his NBA career went.

While reading the manga, it's painfully obvious how Aomine doesn't know how to deal with this crippling depression and really has no one to turn to besides Momoi. It's mindblowing that a 16 year old is going through this much mental shit. And let's not even get started on Akashi. Thinking about how none of the adults in their environment (Coach Sanada and Teiko's principal, Akashi's dad) did a single thing for their wellbeing... bruh that sent chills down my spine, it was so unsettling.

    I guess we all do know extraordinary people in our lives. People who top others in different situations and subjects; and I wouldn't dare to call myself extraordinary, but I did have quite the jump in English back at middle school. English isn't my native language, and I started learning it when I was a 4th grader, and to be honest, at the beginning, it didn't interest me even a bit.
    But eventually, thanks to two of my teacher in those years and the passion I felt for them, I slowly started loving English. When I started reading English stories, watching animations in English and listening to English music, it was only natural that those three things that I loved doing, connected me to English and let me have a development that no other student in my class who had zero background on English before the 4th grade had had back then. The sweetness of being appreciated as a child by my teacher for the natural taste that I was slowly developing for English made me happy, and so I chased that happiness that came along learning English, and it eventually grew on me.
    Once I entered middle school, I messed up the entery exam of English that would define my level in English. I fell in a class that its average level was lower than me, yet somehow I knew my knowledge is lacking somewhere, so I worked my butt off for learning English; I started reading fanfics, watched movies and animations whenever I got the time, and started translating the lyrics of music I listened to. Things I did as hobbies turned to duties for me, and I pushed as hard as I could to revive my damaged ego when people who were a step ahead of me fell twenty steps ahead of me and I was left behind.
    Due to these circumstances, at the 8th grade, my English truly bloomed and I didn't even have to try hard, practice dictation, grammar, vocabulary, whatever, or study for exams any longer. It was just coming natural. I kept doing the things I did in that forte, but it wasn't a force anymore. It was normal.
    At 9th grade, I almost fell out of love.
    Even though I jumped to higher classes each term and stayed where I should've been, because of the talent I have developed with time, everything came... Effortless. If I had an exam, an hour of study was enough to get the score of 100. Homework could've been done during breakfast, even if it was a 200 word essay. Everything was... Painfully easy and there wasn't a challenge for me anymore; not from my classmates, not from my teachers, not even from myself. I started sleeping in the classes, getting bored, even skipping some of my classes, and it didn't do the tiniest of damage; it almost didn't make a difference anymore.
    I needed, craved something to challenge me. To excite me. To push me once more, make me love English again.
    That challenge happened at 10th grade, a year ago.
    Due to the difficulty that school was facing, they merged all levels of English students and created a united class of elite and rookie, and since the balance was broken, the teacher had to go with the medium knowledge that was almost basic for elite students, and too much for rookies.
    It was apparent that the rookies needed help. And as one of the students that had a good level of English knowledge, my classmates started asking me for help. Now that was the challenging part: I didn't know how to make someone understand the raw grasp I had on English in my head. I didn't know how to teach.
    It was something I've never faced. I had to research, re-study, go back to my old books, google stuff, etc etc to learn how to help my classmates that my teacher was (unfortunately) failing to help.
    Even though the class level was low for me and it was boring itself, since my classmates never stopped asking questions, I was challenged at every single turn. I fell in love with English once again, and even though the fresh happiness and that sense of achievement that I felt back at elementary school never returned to me, it wasn't boring anymore.
    Every extraordinary person, in their life, has bloomed to the true form of their ability and from that point on, it all comes naturally to them. Practice and hard work pays off, and even though it seems easy from that point on, the real challenge is still waiting; how to keep on loving something that doesn't really challenge you any longer?
    I know some extraordinary people that completely fell out of love, lost interest, and stopped caring from some point on. (Maybe the fact that I didn't fall out of love was because that I wasn't extraordinary) It was all in the forte of school subjects (Math, chemistry, physics, whatever) but the fact that they were and are geniuses remains true. Unparalleled, unshakable talent and ability comes with its own troubles, and much like Aomine Daiki, when you see how easy people get out of your way because they just can't keep up, can be heartbreaking and even terrifying. When nothing stands in your way any longer, your path starts to seems boring and eventually, putting effort seems useless and a waste of time. I know of many of my classmates that skip classes, don't study, and they are doing _unfairly_ fine, when other students have to work their butt off to even be _good enough,_ and still not able to reach their level or even get close. It all comes natural for extraordinary people, even if they are not interested anymore.
    Aomine Daiki is a realistic, everyday-life example that is shaped into a great character with hardened demeanour and a kind heart, and I truly applaud the writer of KnB for creating such a great character that I slowly but definitely fell in love with. It's sometimes important to know that things don't go easily for extraordinary people either.
    And I applaud you, Aleczandxr, for reviewing this amazing character and looking at it from a different point of view, analysing him and putting effort to create such a great video. You truly do an amazing job, I wish I had your analysing ability somehow...
    Thank you.

It might seem as though having everything handed to you and living an easy life without ever having to struggle may sound like heaven. But if everybody was at your height of level and success without the need of hardship, you would feel empty and can't find the meaning of existence. But then again, if you're a prodigy or gifted in your passion, easily surpassing everybody, then that's just depressing too. This is why rivals or antagonists in sports anime are such a vital tool.

But the reality is that there ARE many players who are more talented than you and work just as hard. These are the guys who make it to pro level. You need both. Hard work and talent. Rice Crispy Akashi was not better, and he only stated it was hard even for him to get by murasakibara. There’s a reason he was the ace of their middle school team. Because he was better than all of them. Akashi having the emperor eye wouldn’t matter if aomine is faster and more versatile than he is as aomine is said to be unpredictable. When it come to murisakibara, he has a strong defense, but aomine can literally shoot from anywhere on the court so his defense may be strong but aomine is more versatile. While they have one trick, aomine has multiple.

    • @Chris-rj4bt
      @Chris-rj4bt Před 5 lety +4

      Homez18 umm no first off saying that Aimone is more versatile isn’t true when Akashi has 2 play styles. The one where he’s op and can cross anyone that gets in his way and the one where he can basically throw the perfect passes and make perfect plays while still being able to shoot and cross and can make his teammates go into the zone from that even if they aren’t a generation of miracle. Forgot to mention that he also has the best defense seen in both play styles

    • @Chris-rj4bt
      @Chris-rj4bt Před 5 lety

      Homez18 So let’s talk about Askashi’s op play style where he doesn’t rely on anyone first. When he was in the zone using it Kagami tried to dunk on him and all he did was reach his arm out out and take the ball. Then he proceeds to cross the whole rest of the team and score on them. There’s also a scene where all 3 of those guys on his team that are also better and would be considered generation of miracles if they played at a different time. They were all guarding him and he crossed all of them and scored. When have we seen Amione doing something close to that. Never. Kagami was in the zone when Akashi did that btw

    • @Chris-rj4bt
      @Chris-rj4bt Před 5 lety

      Homez18 Now let’s talk about his second play style. His play maker play style. There’s a play where he went up for a layup or dunk and switched and did an elbow pass in mid air. So Akashi can obviously do the same shit Aimone can do. In the final quarter of the last game Akashi was able to make everyone on his team go into the the zone even tho they weren’t generation of miracles. I think this proves my point about Akashi being a better player. Or do you want me to find more evidence

    Friggin awesome video dude! Aomine is by far my most favorite character in Koroko no basket cause I related to him a lot. Not in the sense that I am a prodigy but that I got so skilled at the sport I played that I ended up not finding much challenge in it. There is a certain frustration to "leveling up" cause it doesn't mean that others will do the same. The lack of challenge kind of leaves you feeling numb and eventually you start halfassing the things you normally would put an effort into... At some point you turn yourself into a villainous character with hopes that someone will rise to try overthrow you (sure it sounds cliche super villain, but at that point you do whatever it takes feel again. ie instigating others). Eventually I adopted Aomine's philosophy for a time until I discovered the joy of team play hahaha.

      iAm Portz Akashi is not stronger than aomine🤣 this dude is the embodiment of raw talent. Kagami and kise are the only ones close in terms of that. Akashi just has a superpower. Aomine hasn’t tried in years dude is worse than Iverson in terms of practicing and honing his skills yet he still the best. He subconsciously loses. If he were to try and train hard no one would be able to come even close.

    I think Kise have the talent to be equal or even surpass Aomine. In some aspect they are very much similar(everything come easy to them), but the only difference between them is that Kise start loving Basket much later and he have Aomine to chase after. So in time who knows, they can become the ultimate 1v1 players.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  Před 6 lety +33

      Right but my point was specificity. Aomine is born for basketball. Kise was born with unreal talent in general terms, which he then chose to put into basketball.

    • @h1s0ka35
      @h1s0ka35 Před 6 lety +1

      I guess so, but even someone like Aomine who is born for basketball can lost his way and almost quit and stop playing, even start hating the game. You even say he is wasting his potential and i agree 100% and here come the real question for me. Can someone like Kise who started late compare to Aokime and Kagami, catch up to them with his scary and almost unreal talent or the gap is too wide and Aomine have too much pure power and skills that even without training no one else can come close to him.(only in 1v1, not team play). The difference between hard working genius(with clear goal to surpass the best player) against pure genius with more talent but lost his way(not anymore). Kise is copycat but can he surpass the original? Or Aomine is like Saitama and is doom to fail to find real challenge if he try too hard.

    I never got into this series, so it's nice to see how deep it goes into the mentality of prodigies.
    I would also like to point out a coincidental parallel with Goku in the first Martial Arts Tournament.

    Man now I want to see who would be the best member of GoM Kise with Perfect Copy and Zone, Midorima with his lucky item in his lucky day, Murasakibara not holding back with Zone, Akashi with no split personalities so full Emperors Eye, or Aomine that didn’t lose his passion for the game so he would’ve kept training.

    • @xxaceplayzxx8217
      @xxaceplayzxx8217 Před 2 lety

      Honestly this could go either way with the talent of every single character. However, I am pointed towards Aomine. The reason for this being, he was so good that without training for 2 years he still could rival the skill of the GoM. If Aomine had kept training he would undoubtly be the best in the series, only rivaled by few but beaten by none. Im curious as to what you think about this topic. @Nightmare Mctravis
