    You can’t have different covenants without different dispensations (time periods in which God relates to mankind through particular covenants and rules). Covenant theology and dispensational theology are portrayed as opposite viewpoints, yet the reality is that they are hand in glove. They are both essential elements to understanding correctly the Bible as a whole.

    I disagree with your comment that we all read scripture through a lens. As a new convert 40 years ago, I voraciously read scripture to learn more about God and as I read, I discovered fascinating things about Him and His plans for redemption. Obviously, I did not understand everything so I put those on a shelf until I could learn more. I think if we approach scripture as a complete neophyte, it’ll be relatively clear. Unfortunately, as we become part of a church body and listen to doctrine preached from the pulpit, we begin to put on specific lenses! Then the Lord has to go back and ‘adjust’ the lens!

      True, we should read the scripture without bias(lens), but to suggest we don’t always have some bias is suspect. True, we are often trained up with the “yeast of the pharisees”, so to speak, in whatever church we are in. But we also bring baggage from the world and our own personalities to our interpretation and understanding of scripture. It’s good to recognize this for what it is honestly so it can be dealt with.

    • @HarpazoReady2022
      @HarpazoReady2022 Před 8 měsíci

      We shouldn’t be using any type of lens to interpret the Bible. Just read it and it will interpret itself. We need to simply allow the Word to speak to us through the Holy Spirit as 1 Corinthians 2:10 says💜
      There is no covenant of grace, works or redemption. We’re IN the age of grace, but there’s a reason Genesis 3 doesn’t use the word covenant. It’s because there isn’t one. Covenant Theology violates 2 Peter 1:20.

    You explained that Adam was under a works covenant because if he had obeyed God (ie not eaten the fruit) he would have “earned” his righteousness. The problem is Adam was already righteous when God created man God said it was good. At the same time you say adam fell when he disobeyed and went into a fallen state. So this indicates that you understand he was in a superior state before the fall. How then can you call the Adamic covenant a works based covenant when it was not his works that made him righteous?
    I think this just shows the danger of reading your systematic into the scripture

    • @AMightyFortressIsOurGod24
      @AMightyFortressIsOurGod24 Před 6 měsíci

      I don't even know why they said that because there is no way Adam could not have sinned, because the fall was ordained of God. And there is no way Adam could have kept God's commandments in perpetuity either, as it is impossible to do so by a mere creature.

  • @meisaak
    @meisaak Před 5 měsíci

    Without the base of the old testament, wouldn't Jesus's blood needed to atone for sins seem odd? The base of the old testament builds upon itself until the fulfillment in the new testament. The prophecies about Christ are in the OT and revealed/accomplished in the NT. This didn't really answer any questions for me, but there seems to be a lot of positioning and build up to something. The Adam covenant didn't really make sense either, since covenants are sealed in blood, and no blood was spilled until after Adam sinned. Abraham didn't walk through the blood, but God did, and Jesus's blood was the blood of the new covenant.

    I Thank you for this introduction to COVENANT THEOLOGY. I have been studying Dispensationalism for a while, never knew much about it, now I am trying to study Covenant Theology, and decide which way to go here. I have listened to John MacArthur and R.C. Sproul for many years. I am a part time Believer in Calvinism and Predestination. and Dispensationalism does not go there much. The main foundation of their doctrine is the Apostle Paul and From Mid Acts to Philemon, which is for the Church. The Old Testament is only Historical information, But they say The Bible is For you But everything in the Bible is not Address to you. The Books of the New Testament after Philemon is for the Tribulation Jews and Lost after the Church has been Raptured off the Earth. Which includes Revelations. So I am between a rock and a hard place. So of it is credible, and some of it is a lost in understanding.

    CT is interpreted through the Reformation; Creed and Confession. Hence, you don't allow scripture to interpret scripture. Which is wrong. The New Testament priority does not help us explain the Bible, but it is that both Testaments help us explain the Bible.

      @@JK-uo3pd I won't defend Matt LePage... but I can address your question.
      The protestant believes there has been a "dispensation" of Gods law. Meaning a different law for different people at different times.
      Covenant theology.. I won't answer for as its conflated with Protestantisms and confusing and completely subject to the theology.
      What I see are Gods laws *PLUS* covenants.
      - Gods laws / instruction are eternal = Torah
      - Covenants = specific rules for people for a specific time. My names not Noah and I don't have to build an ark....
      *Covenants* are NOT dispensations. This is the basic problem in modern day Christianity. We don't know the laws of God because we thinK the "old testament" is not for us. Problem is... Gods laws never change. Mal 3:6 / Matt 5:17-19

      @@wydopnthrtl actually dispensationalist believe that all people for all times are and were saved by grace through faith (Hebrews 11) CT teaches their are two different covenants for salvation, the works and grace. Dispensationalist believe the Bible is written for us but not everything is written to us. So some things apply to a different dispensation. ie right now God is working via His church, however, He still has a plan for Israel in the future at a different dispensation (but remember that regardless of what dispensation we are in everyone will be saved by grace never works that none should boast). CT teaches that since we are in a new covenant all prophesies/ promises about Israel that we’re not fulfilled under the works covenant are now to be fulfilled by the church. Another way of thinking is that dispensation takes a literal approach to scripture primarily whereas CT takes an allegory approach by applying things that literally mention Isreal/ house of David to interpret it to something that can be applied to the new covenant ie the church. That’s why he spent several minutes justifying the use of lens to read scripture because it’s not taking the word literally.

Also dispensationalists don’t believe that keeping the law saves you actually we believe the complete opposite, like I explained dispensationalists believe we have ALWAYS been saved by GRACE and that NO ONE CAN BE SAVED BY WORKS/ THE LAW whilst CT argue that it’s ONLY under THE NEW covenant that we are saved by grace. It’s CT who introduce the idea that it’s possible to be saved by WORKS under the old covenant.

    What Im hearing from one person in particular (if not 2 or all 3 of you) could have astronomically bad effects-in other words all of Scripture is a matter of interpretation, correct? So I might interpret one passage one way and another person could interpret that same passage another way. One could easily move right off of orthodox Biblical christianity by doing that. Scripture needs read by what its saying in the text. Its not open to interpretation.

      Dispensationlist believe that God has used the same method to save people throughout history that salvation has always been by grace through faith (Hebrews 11 - God always declared His people righteous by faith alone not works). Covenant theology teaches that God used different covenants to save people so OT was by works whilst NT is by grace. Both groups believe that God uses covenants but under covenant theology all references + promises to Israel now applies to the church because we are in a new covenant. Under dispensationalism the church is God’s tool for today however God still has a plan for Israel so not every promise for Israel can be appropriated by the church. Hope that helps

    What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word.
    Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary.
    What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
    New Covenant Whole Gospel:
    Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
    He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
    Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
    Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
    Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
    Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
    Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
    Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
    Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
    We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
    1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
    1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
    1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
    The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant.
    Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
    Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
    Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
    Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
    1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

    1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

In other words they recognised good and evil. I don't believe in original sin because that would mean if we are all sinners because of what Adam done then we must be all righteous because of what Jesus done. We know that we are not all righteous unless we are in Christ. May be splitting hairs but I am not a Calvinist ( TULIP) believer.
