A haircut was $10 with a shave. Yes, this is a new time and the price go up to about 20 but yeah, but I’m tired of seeing these CZcamsrs charging people and arm and leg and to top it off. $15 is golden. My last barber was charging $25 a cut. I always tipped $5 so I paid $30. He then raised the price to $30 a few months later. I was thinking, I've been giving you $30 so what your really doing is demanding a $10 tip. I said it's too much, dapped him and left. If I'm giving you $30 already, don't tell me haircuts have been raised to $30. Outside of weird stuff like that, you're due for a raise.

Mine was $25 and I would tip $10. I like letting my hair grow, so I'll get mine cut like every two to three months and I always call for a Monday or Tuesday appointment assuming he's busy on the weekends. Now recently he texted me if I need a cut for Saturday, I said yeah and get it cut to a new price of 35$ and I tipped 5$. I also notice a lot of dudes don't tip their barbers at all.
It’s not so much that they’re being greedy. The price of everything is going up. Their booth rent, supplies, etc all went up. Their prices will reflect that.
U have to tip. U just do. It’s like a restaurant tips help and show appreciation. Unless the service is bad then don’t tip. But if it’s good show love

I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now I have dreads at the top and my sides are shaved, 5 to 10 minutes with a good pair of Walmart clippers and some nice little small clippers to give myself a little lineup and I'm good to go. I'm like nah bro I don't need no makeup, or my eyebrows done You can keep that white line nd that razor let me get up out of this chair lol.

Hey homie,the cut was sharp and faded clean. I keep my barber license active and did the professional 13yrs til i walked away. I always have the passion for cutting but lost the passion because of cutting myself short in $$$. It was my fault not having boundaries and a big heart that i had heavy clientele but i didnt believe in myself and allow the business to get the best of me. Dont make the same mistakes i did because clients like that can discourage your passion when your gift should make you happy and take care of you financially . 💪🏾 much love and keep pushing hard

what made you make that change , i feel like i’ve been in that same situation these past 2 years , i’m about to do my state test and honestly i feel like i’ve been putting my prices down to a price that accommodates for my clients situation , a lot of it i feel like i can’t live up to a certain price point but i have clients that pay me well for my work aswell so im a bit confused in what to approach
@aliceboyh I share with everybody that steps away to keep them barber license valid because it's a trade nobody can take away from you and when other things fail you can be a barber asap wherever a barber is needed. The hard part is most barbershops in many cities don't stick as a unit like they use to where our prices were no different but so much competition has drove to one cheaper than the other just to make it. The best advice I always heard is stick to your guns and get paid for what you are worth because them low prices will make you hate coming to work or being dedicated over the good ones you do got.

Don't sell yourself short; alot of these clients won't hesitate to spend money on weed, alcohol, expensive clothes and sneakers and trickin off on women, but then wanna throw you the scraps or bargain with you. Set your standards my guy, or people will walk all over you. You can still remain humble and help people and make a good living for yourself and your family, i promise.

I feel you bro. My brother is a license Barber and he's also currently enrolled in University majoring in Native American studies. He was working full time at the College bookstore but since it's now Summer he has had to rely only on cutting hair. He has found a job working as a bank teller but the point of it is he is older than me but I've found my self helping him out a lot of times when things have gotten tight for him. I have payed him double what he usually charges me. I have sent him money to buy groceries at times. Also he has had clients to not pay him right but he also has certain clients that he'll make over $100 on. He also does womens hair and apparently that is where the decent money is. My Aunt ran a beauty Salon most of her life beginning back in the 60s through to probably the 2000s. Now she has developed dementia from the chemical sprays and hair treatments that were used back then. She seems to be a happy person though.

For anyone who might think "he only shorted you $4." Think of it this way:
Being a barber is a specialized skill set. You go there because you need someone with a skillset to do you a favor, so you pay them for doing work for you. It doesn't matter if you "could" do it-you didn't, so you pay somehow.
Either way, you're seeking a specialist who understands this art (and make no mistake, barbering absolutely is an art,) to do it right, for you. Shorting them is still a theft of their services, and that's sheisty af, not to mention embarrassingly cheap.
Furthermore, it was a $15 cut. A great deal, discounted to start off with, and this dude just shorted homie more than 25 percent. When you think about it that way you realize what a "spit in the face" this kind of thing really is.
But you can rest easy knowing this dude must get the same thing back tenfold. If you don't treat people right, people aren't gonna treat you right, trust and believe. You get what you give, and _rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength_ . Remember that one.
It's all part of the game man. You are essentially selling a service, your time to more specific. It's either you speed up the time taken to render the service or charge extra to compensate for that time lost that you could have been servicing other clients. A haircut is an elastic product/service, meaning that if you change prices, it's going to affect a client's decision on whether to stick with you or go elsewhere. As with an elastic product/service, there will always be substitutes available i.e lower prices will affect even a "loyal" customer to go elsewhere i.e another barber who charges less for a similar service. Perfect your craft and the customer will always be loyal to you. In the interim it's good to get clients like this dude, teaches you a life lesson.

I stopped going to the barbershop during the pandemic and learned to cut my own hair. Before that, I would go at least once every 2 weeks and it’d cost around 30 bucks.
