    I don’t like the way the response to the question about previous problems with Brose motors on Specialized bikes was kind of deflected because that’s an important topic everyone is curious about. My personal experience with Brose motor was so devastating (4 motors replaced) then I got a swap deal from them to the Levo SL, that makes impossible for me to trust Brose until they don’t completely assure the cause of the problem was solved. That’s the answer that any ex Brose owner want to hear. How it would work with the new auto shift technology integration will be a good thing to see.

      the system has been ridden in E-EWS by the GasGas Team - accoudring to their driver, Johannes Fischbach, the motor worked flawless over the whole season

    I think what eMTB riders need is something similar/identical to the newly released Pinion MGU solution - no more rear mech.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  Před 8 měsíci

      We're interested to see how the Pinion unit performs, but aside from the slightly exposed rear mech and extra unsprung mass, this system offers most of the same benefits.

    • @tooFATtoRIDE
      @tooFATtoRIDE Před 8 měsíci +5

      @@TheLoamWolf I respectfully disagree as your comment suggests the extra unsprung mass and exposed rear mech is negligible. Whilst the issue of the extra mass and the benefits of lack thereof might not be felt by everybody, issues with the rear mech and how easy it is to get damaged, should not be marginalised.
      I am not dissing this product, absolutely not, but at the same time I do not expect a behemoth like SRAM to cannibalise the rear mech as it is such a huge revenue generator.
      After all what the masses want does not always go hand-in-hand what the corpo wants.

      I won't buy another ebike without a gearbox and belt drive. This is nothing special, just software integration of an existing drivetrain and motor. I don't want auto shifting with a derailleur. Specialized has up to 5 easy to set modes instead of 2 with the same motor.

    • @garthflint
      @garthflint Před 8 měsíci

      Unsprung mass is not computed like sprung mass. Multiply unsprung by at least 3. This value comes from Formula 1 racing tech. That cog set suddenly becomes significant in suspension performance.

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux Před 8 měsíci

      they will never do that, as long as they can make more money out of a client by charging him more for derailleurs, casettes and chains. Ppl often don't understand that companies in this industry(and every other industry) are in to make money, not to make the best viable option and product for their clients. Their interest is in getting their boards richer, not creating better mtb components.

    I have an auto shift igh on my cruiser Vado 5.0 and didn't think I would like it but after testing it I love it. Mountain biking is a whole different level though so it would have to work better. Wireless shifting is good enough on my top end Levo but nothing super special. I wonder though if Rob was aware that you can adjust how aggressively the auto shift changes gears and what setting he was in for that ? Noone mentioned that adjustment setting I have seen on other reviews.

  • @nickolp-it7bo
    @nickolp-it7bo Před 8 měsíci +1

    I like the fact it only has 2 power modes on the fly, i never use more than 2 and obviously they can be tuned to your preference in the app so i dont see that as an issue.
    The point where the bike was taken out of its comfort zone, downhill blast followed by quick stop and turn round, i thought that was a pointless test as who would do that?? maybe in a race if you missed your marker, but id still change gear manually and take the load off the bike with a quick spin of the cranks and your off. You would destroy any drivetrain doing what the tester did, it was a test and the bike coped remarkably well in my opinion. But i would still not do it it in any situation on any price tier drivetrain let alone one that will cost $$$$$. Looking forward to having a go on one of these systems.

    Couple issues: Why "Auto shift"? It is not something that will improve my riding, if anything it would be annoying.
    Why only 2 modes, I like having more modes to change my riding style based on my time, distance, and who I am riding with.
    Overall, this motor is very "sram" marketing at it's best, but overall improvement of existing proof of concept is nothing too amazing.

  • @onemanmob6756
    @onemanmob6756 Před 8 měsíci

    The visual cleanliness of the cockpit is more than offset by the bulk and ugliness of the motor. These Brose units make Specialized bikes look pregnant 🙄
    I wish there was a standard for MTB motor mounting points in the frame and the batteries, just like it's the case with all other components.
    ATM the most promising new EMTB drive unit IMHO is Pinion and I am still a big fan of Fazua, which allows building relatively light EMTBs.
    I like seeing Transition return to more vivid colours on their bikes 👍

  • @GhulamHussain-uk3im
    @GhulamHussain-uk3im Před 6 měsíci

    The only thing holding me back from buying a new SRAM based eMtb is the current belt-driven Brose motor. Yes it is a quiet motor but also has had its fair share of issues. If Brose had confidence in their motor, they would not be developing a complete redesign in the Brose Drive 3 (non-belt) motor, more aligned to the Bosch and Shimano motors. The new Brose motor is due to be released in 2024 and hopefully, SRAM will release a new powertrain based on the Drive 3 motor (48v, 410% assistance, and no belts), only then will I be parting with my reddies.

      It does not have a gearbox so in that situation it's exactly the same as any other bike, it can't work miracles. In that scenario it will always be down to rider input with a mech based system.

  • @eugenux

    looks big, bulky and ugly. looks like the cheap chinese copy of the unit you can find on Specialized bikes. It makes Bosch, Fazua and TQ look like premium stuff... like Mercedes, Audi and BMW compared with cheap chinese Renault copies. Better to avoid it...especially if it has the same belt problems as the unit on Levos. It also made the nuke megawatt look so much uglier than before.

    • @jroase1658
      @jroase1658 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Fazua and the tq are not in the same league as power goes not even close . Bosch and shimano rattle . Brose is quiet and you can replace parts unlike shimano you have to replace the whole motor. Yea it’s big and bulky but that’s because they turn the motor upright to fit a bigger battery .

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux Před 8 měsíci

      @@jroase1658yet, they are not there yet because their focus was somewhere else but, don't you worry.. they are comming. Even for their SL motors, they are miles better, from integration and usability pov. Everyone I know with a Levo had problems.. everyone.
      As for rattles, the new bosch on my friend pivot am does not have it.. so.., they fixed that. Bosch also have a much much better reliability and performance.. so, it is a win win.
      750wh batteries on bosch systems and the bikes look perfectly nice.. not the bloated levo and, now, the nukeproof and transition...which look like they have some sort of disease down there.. morbid obesity or smth.
