  • In this video I'll show you how to build a DIY pallet wood deck for cheap. This is a above ground deck but it can also be built under ground using the same method if you dig in a little bit. I used 6 pallets to get a final product of about a 12x12 deck. make sure to subscribe for more DIY builds!

Hey guys ive been reading all your comments. I should have been more clear in the video. Yes I am aware it's going to rot. I live in a rental and the deck was only meant to last a year before I rip it up. Also all of the wood except 4 boards came from free pallets. The only reason I'm commenting this is for the people who are loosing their minds about the rot.

Everyone is talking about how fast it will rot. I literally had a pallet couch sitting on a concrete patio for 7 years. I replaced it with another pallet couch that I made last summer, and it was still standing at the time. The only reason I replaced it is because we had a wedding in my yard, and I made a stage out of pallets. Instead of tossing those new pallets, I decided to rebuild the couch and make it bigger.

My favorite part of any construction project is the family dogs wanting so badly to be part of the effort!
When my dad and I poured our concrete driveway in 1976, my beagle wanted to "help" and ended up imprinting two of her paw marks into the concrete.
My mom and I drove out to the old place last year and I looked for the paw prints.
    Still there.

First I'd like to say, the deck came out pretty cool.
Also, beautiful dogs. Especially the boxer, I have 2 girls.
The pallets could last if you get the ones with the stamp on them meaning they're heat and termite treated. I'm a truck driver and deliver freight to the Airport and all pallets need that incase of a fire or if they go into a different country.
And like you mention on the description, it's a $100 deck. Can't expect it to last forever lol

  • @thetruthisonlyperspective4872

You had a need, made a functional version with recycled material and best off did it yourself for practically nothing. This is what DIY is all about.
Thank you for posting this clip, this is exactly the type of projects that got me into woodworking years ago.
I build custom pieces with all the saws, clamps, jigs, etc you'd expect in any woodworking shop catering to high end customers and have created things I could never afford...
Having said that, I still enjoy doing diy stuff with beat to hell pallet wood just like this.
It's not gonna age well at all compared to a $18k custom tree bench sure... But it's also not taking a master carpenter 200hrs in a fully loaded shop and a financing company to bring it to life.
You killed it man. It really pisses me off to hear these negative ass Scrooge people in the comments attempting to diminish your work-> Fuck em.
IDK whether or not it's an abundance of wealth or a lack of creativity and motivation these trolls have to not comprehend the practicality of building a cheap temporary item until time allows for other options, but I certainly do.
Keep being handy and keep feeding your creative side... I'd like to see you build some cheap yard art in the same style just to keep em bitching.
Hope you have a good one.

So, you could put a waterproof sheet between the grass and pallets, and have it under a gazbo/ awning, so still a rad idea. Its worth it to buy wood sealer or even boiled linseed oil as once a few coats of that then let bake in the sun the wood hardens and has pretty good moisture barrier. If ysing free pallets you save a ton and whats a lil blood sweat n tears for your own enjoyment. My biggest issue is finding a bunch of pallets that match. I dont have a wood planer either. So basically I disassemble the pallets treat each piece with preservative then assemble. You would be surprised how many seasons you can get out of it.

Haters saying it will rot but could you put gravel under? It will stop the weeds and keep the water drained. At least that's the recommendation for a shipping container to prevent rust. I know, completely different but just a thought.

I've been thinking about temporary stands for my greenhouse (when I move it) and a palette base may be an option. I could seal it with deck sealer, most likely. Sherwin Williams sells a good one. I might put bricks under for airflow though. Or some kind of blocks. We'll see.
