- Believe it or not, after each video in this series is created, we set the project aside to take care of other builds and content happening at the RC Driver workshop. There are a lot of moving parts to what we do. But! The Project Maxx has circled back around and we’re continuing with building up this killer RC monster truck. In this video, we are swapping out the stock telescoping driveshafts of the standard width Steel CV Driveshafts. With this swap, you will also need new wheel hexes and nuts. Finishing off the video is a quick swap of the spur gear from the stock composite to the steel gear option. This project is coming along great, make sure you don’t miss a single episode!

Thank you for showing me how to put on most of this stuff for upgrades I truly appreciate it my Max is looking great already
Thank you for the info!
Just bought mine, needed this video. Thanks
love my maxx thanks for the info.💪💪
That's amazing how easy the spur gear is to access 👌
Yup. Way easier than my stampede 4x4 like 8 years ago
I’m still on the fence about this truck. However the upgrades are awesome!
Awesome video!
I recommend against adding grease to the CV coupling. It will basically collect dust and just turn into grinding paste and eat away at the metal parts.
I suggest putting a thin layer of grease on the metal spur gear.
Enjoyed this thank you
I WANT YOUR TRUCK !!! For parts for my Erevo 😂.
Do those 8950X aluminum axles work with the widemaxx kit?
Do you have to run the new Hex ends with them?
MAN, ALL THESE UPGRADES I NEED!!! THANXU FOR THE VIDEO! U COULD 1 UP IT AND SEND THE UPGRADE PARTS OUT TO UR LOYAL SUBSCRIBERS 🤪 TOO!!
Is there something to do to hold in c clips instead of the new drive cvd’s
Was hoping to keep the stock parts for a bit. Do they break easy
What about kids and 2 s fun. Will it hold up for that the original driveshaft’s❤️👊😀
Any help is gold thanks. 👍😊
Ohh and did it come with threaded arm pins stock.
Mines threaded and has a hole like for a retainer screw that’s not used. 🤓👍
I wonder how graphite would work on the pins, have you ever tried it?
Do they make the 17mm hex adapter 10mm extended for the metal axles
I love that you actually broke it down and showed the whole thing it helps when trying to get new parts too even if you are super handy and lets you know if they could fit or not
Those steel cvs are the best investment, those stock axle tips are cheap as hell
👍looking sharp. It's a shame traxxas didn't include a few of these "hop-ups".
Thanks! On the bright side, it allows the owner to get the options they want; brand, standard, wide.
Hey man just had a question, I recently bought a older model of the Traxxas nitro rustler and I need to change the control and receiver to a 2.4 GHz do you have any recommendations for which one to buy or can I just use a Redcat 2.4 ghz and receiver that I have laying around on this Traxxas model? Thank you
What are those different pins you have in holding the arms to the steering hubs
They come with the hinge pin set and the aluminum C-hub set. Check out the playlist for this video series. There’s a video where I install them.
Hey does anyone know what size bearings those are? I am having a hard time finding them
I don’t have the steel axles but I do have the wide kit. Is it really that necessary for the steel shafts? Or the stock plastic is fine?
So you need, The metal driveshafts in order to do the metal nut combo?
What about the pinion gear? 26/46?
I just picked up a white wide body kit and some red 8654 hubs the 8654 hubs fit the maxx right?
The link for the steel drive shaft is not correct
Whats the spur gear upgrade reasoning ?
cheers
Awesome Intel inside this show, but did you keep the stock pinion or change that also.
I had the same question and called Traxxas. You can leave the stock pinion gear in. They with that spur gear you can run a 23-27 pinion gear. The difference is acceleration vs top speed. You also want to be carful where you run the top speed set up (26/46), it could put to much strain on your truck.
You should do a power system upgrade on the next build series
Hi di u suggest me to go 6s or not??
Hey Greg I was just wondering if there is a metal spur gear for the Arrma Senton
I “think” Hot Racing has one.
@@rcdriver Ok thanks
Are those axle upgrades for the wide max? I thought the part number was 8996X
No, we’re still in Standard mode. Swapping the truck over to wide after the next video.
@@rcdriver so you have to buy those and 8996x for them to fit with wide maxx kit and the hubs? I bought it n wide maxxed it all in green.. so 530.00 for my truck 50 to wide maxx it and almost 200 more to get steel axels and true 17mm hubs thats krazy man.. but i must say I was confused cuz in the video urs is wide maxxed and you installed standard steel axle kit..
What is the large bearing called
What's the difference between the xmaxx and max. I have the xmaxx. With a lot of upgrades
Pretty much just size
For the price that truck should of came with those drive shafts
It's a Traxxas what did you expect.
The Light Bulb Conspiracy was the architect... if it doesn't break, the business isn't sustainable.
jason ivers to be fair I hear the stock plastic ones can bend pretty well before they break. If you widemaxx though it’s basically a must have
I grease my metal ones and it made it into a grinding paste and now the pins don't stay in so I had to order new ones don't use grease oil anything good luck
How are the new pins buddy?
I'm working on a 3d printed reinforcement for the stock axles and widemaxx kit. It will help prevent the twisting the kills the shaft. Should be a nice alternative for those that don't want to spend an additional 150 on top of the widemaxx kit. It's in testing now. Should be on ebay within a week.
The new widemaxx v2 comes with extended axle shafts that give the same axle engagement as stock width
@@tenncutt yeah they came out with it a few months ago. I did sell my sleeves for about 6 months before they did though. Sold about 250 sets of them.
@@DoRC good for you brother, find a niche and fill it. I sold Polaris Tiedowns for a couple years on ebay. I worked at a fastenal store and was getting everything I needed for employee discount . Been thinking lately it's time to fo something on Ebay or Amazon again. How much did you spend on a printer?
Hey what if we get the jada Brian's car and take the top off and put it on the top of a real rc car
How come you didn't go with the widemaxx ? The Traxxas widemaxx CVDs are amazing, why spend the extra $$ and not do it ? Makes no sense to me.
You not supposed to put grease where dust can go.
apply only on sealed places
if you don't need to change out any other parts it seems like this method would be a little easier with less complete part removal
czcams.com/video/7XO9s4N74X0/video.html
All these traxxas upgrades I can't help but say these vehicle should have been recalled like a real car and been put on by Traxxas or any other manufacturer. Anything outside of Traxxas upgrade replacement parts you should take care of yourself. Should be like a real car. That would be extra awesome.
🤣
good old traxxas, making expensive rc cars that require expensive upgrades, also your 1st link in the description is for the stock plastic drive shafts, not the upgraded metal ones.
I would leave the way it is n invest more on batteries. More fun time imo
Come on man! If they came with all those upgrades you would upgrade something else! Don't deny!
Another max video? With all these upgrade expenses might as well get a Tekno mt410. Much better than a max can ever be. Not biased. Just facts. Durability is top not h combined with stable jumps and able to jump further. Plus the steering and handling of a buggy. No need to worry about traction roll like the maxx does on street or any high traction. On loose dirt the Tekno is superior in the handling department. It does everything better than the traxxas maxx. No exaggeration.
I think a toy truck that cost over five- hundred dollars, these so called upgrades should have been installed when new. This is the same old story that I dealt with over 10 years ago with the stampede and is still going on today? Why is it when armma and other manufacturers see a glaring problem they fix it!
Because then you don't buy replacement parts 🤣
But Arrma can't really throw stones, they have plenty of their own issues, like the diffs that are known to be weak.
All rtr rcs will need upgrades. Arrmas 4s line has weak diffs and shocks that puke out their fluid constantly. And to be fair the stock plastic axles hold up pretty well on the stock control arms.
Dont put grease !!!! Just dont !!!!
Keep it stock stupid stay cheap and it’s better that way! Sock is the way to go with this truck people are so dumb
I can screw the screw in as hard as I want, but the pin still slips out. I don't know why, does anyone have a clue
