Norway Travel: How Expensive is OSLO? & City Tour
I lost my wallet in Oslo and got it back the next day with all my money inside, Norwegians are pretty nice
Norwegians are more honest because living in a modern country with low poverty causes that, USA is a 3rd World Country where it's poor go hungry and if they get sick they're in the streets with no food before you have time to blink your eyes, this causes a survival of the fittest instinct to take hold of our people
Wow, that's awesome. I watched a video about Helsinki in which they placed 15 wallets randomly around the city. Apparently 14 out of 15 were turned in. Pretty good ratio.
no we’re not, you where lucky. If you go to outside oslo or oslo south and east you can easily get robbed
@@farentillilicey374 not true i live in norway people are so nice here! Dont judge norwegians like that please.
Philip Videos Hvor i norge?
Ok here is a little tips from someone who lives in norway: Oslo is NOT a tourist spot people! If u want to expirence Norway, you have to go away from cities unless that City is Bergen. Norway has one of the most beautiful nature you'll ever see in the world. That's what norwegians are proud off. The nature is what makes Norway so special. I recomend u go to West or North of Norway, you'll find more beauty over there ;) but then again, you won't trully see it's beauty if you haven't experience all 4 season here
I've been studying abroad in Norway for almost a year now, and the high prices really aren't that big of a deal. Yes, everything is more expensive than you're probably used to, but keep in mind that salaries are also higher. Unless you're planning to eat out or party very often, you should be fine.
You stay in the "immigrant" part of Oslo, where stuff is way cheaper than in Norway in general.
Ok. If you want stay with the emmigrant, why not go to banglades. That mutch more cheaper. Ddd.
its the east-coast, its uglier there
Naah the food they sell in that area is typically the same price anywhere else in oslo. Expect pizza.
tucker3601 shut the fuck up lmao
tucker3601 believe me muslims would rather stay as far away from people like you as possible 🤣
Hahahhaha! I have never heard of "My dinner with Andre" before, but thank you so much for the tip! I will definitely watch it ( just seen som clips) A lot of the topics they discuss is what I usually talks about with friends. Congratz so much with 80 K followers.
Oslo has very different areas. seems you are in the cheap place with most immigrant populations. most stores in the beginning are cheaper immigrant stores
well, all of this is pretty much in the centre of oslo. its a small city. rest is mostly surburbia
Good job with all the videos buddy
thanks for the vid. i’m flying to Oslo this friday
Have a great trip.
Good! Keep it up!
congrats on 80k :-)
Thanks.
Was in the same hostel, however booked a room for one. April 5 through 7, paid PLN 614 (about $160). Shower is a bit awkward, but in general - good stuff.
better than most travel vloggers because he shows the real picture.
"My Dinner With Andre" is a great little film. Wallace Shawn. So good. I hadn't made the connection until you said it at the end. Nice! Yeah, eating out in restaurants in Oslo looks expensive, but certain food like at the fruit stalls is not so bad. It's my experience. I'll be curious to see if this is the general trend in the other parts of Europe you'll be going to. Travel well! 👍🏼✌🏼
No, the price difference between restaurants and fruit stalls is by far the highest in Norway than any other country in Europe. This is because working class wages in Norway are the highest in the entire world, and restaurants require a lot more labour than fruit stalls. Simple logic, really, no experience needed.

If you need place to stay in Norway-Oslo, try Airbnb. My girl and I have find apartment in Welhavens gate (its max 4-5 min slow walk to Karl Johans Gate, 10 nights for 450euros. And It was from 13.-24. May, keep in mind that on 17. May Norwegians have nacional holiday so prices are like as in middle of tourist season. Apartment had 35m2, sleeping room with double bed, bathroom, kitchen with living room, balcony with sitting sofas, all was new and clean. It was much better deal then to go in hostel and share space with other ppl.
I used to live in Oslo and you just need to know were to go. There is good affordable restaurants in Oslo
Norway is really beautiful I download ur videos n watch them all as I get time I hope CZcams also gives u money on downloads
Will you go to Bergen? The fjords cruise there are awesome although a little bit expensive
No, I just spent a couple days in Oslo and am now in Copenhagen.
Jessica Li Bergen is Norway's nicest city. where I am from.
Henrik H Koch Oh nice~I still miss the scenery in Norway…
How do you get such clear sound? Are you using a mic? What camera are you using?
I watched this video after seeing alot of videos on Norway from another youtuber and I now find myself knowing where some of the places you visited here are! You went down to the East side which is considered the gritty and cheap side of Oslo! It is funny the Opera House is one of the places where you can go to the restroom for FREE and fish on the river there for free unlike the USA where you have to pay for a license to fish. Those 2 Finnish ladies had me in love! The bigger one was my kind of lovely! I would go to Finland now lol! Enjoyed your video! Btw, I just saw in another video that you can not record inside the grocery store in Norway..craziness.
I don't know. But me thinking Vancouver gives Oslo a run for her money as far as expensive goes. Average home goes for over $1 mil. now. If you can call it "average".
Thankyou planning to become involved too traveling
Such a beautiful and cool place but man do I hate the cost of even the most basic of things but hey that is the price one must pay to experience awesome places such as Oslo.
Good video!
The reason why Norway is expenssive is because the wages here are high in Norway.
There is a less wealth gap in Norway compared to the USA and other European countries.
McDonald's employes wages per hour are around 25 dollars in Norway.
So life in Norway is good! :)
Tractor Eggs No we wont be wiped out anytime soon, or economy is ok and the goverment are taking care off everyone.
Only in Oslo : ))
Not true. I moved from Norway to Canada and make the same here as I did in Norway, but the living costs here are WAY less then in Norway..
Wages in Norway aren't that great. They are good for traditionally lower payed jobs like janitors and stuff like that, but middle-high paying jobs like doctors, engineering jobs etc they are not that good and less than in USA. Basically everyone makes the same...I don't like it.
@@xpopcornx1747 yeah it's terrible when the poor can eat as well as the rest of society, I hate it.. they should be beat with a broom! and sleep in the streets, I mean some occupations deserve the money to live in a gated community its the only proper thing to do!
I live in Norway and work in a retail store. I make 200 NOK an hour (24,3$ an hour). Keep in mind that the dollar is strong now and the NOK is weak. When the dollar is on a "normal" rate it's like 30$ an hour!
Big fan of your videos, man! I live in Oslo, so let me know if you need a guide!
Thanks a lot Thomas. I'm now in Copenhagen, I just spent a couple days in Oslo.
Shout out to the Free Comic Book Day bag
I stayed at that hostel. Good place.
VOSS water bottles are basically tap water from VOSS =D
Gabriel 80k Congratulations
Thanks.
these prices seem similar to prices for mid-quality food prices in the united states. a kilogram is about 2.2 pounds, so even some of the fresh fruit is about the same
What makes this countey so expensive? may be the taxation policy, I think when it comes to prices India seems sort of a heaven for budget travellers.. $30 for a soup could turn to full meal for atleast 3-4 people in a semi luxury restaurant in India, and you know it very well. Nice Video.
Mohit Pareek Im learning so muchl from everyone-
😐Thanks Gabrielle for the mental vacation. Love traveling all over the world with you.📷 How many miles do you walk in a day?🌺
It is partially due to the taxation scheme, but not the way you think. The most important effect of the high taxes, and the extensive welfare state it funds, is a very small income gap between distinct groups/classes. People working in McDonalds and shops et cetera does not make just a small fraction of what the upper middle class makes, such as lawyers, professors and doctors et cetera.
When the people who prepare and serve you the food make about the same salary as you do, it is of course going to be very expensive for you to eat out.
But, of course, that is not whole story either. The most important reason why Norway is so expensive is because the productivity in Norway is one of the highest in the world. For example, Norway has the highest wages for working class people in the entire world, and that, in combination with the high tax funded extensive welfare state and the small class differences it creates, is the reason why Norway is so expensive.
Judith, in this video he walked one mile. The video is actually longer than the time it takes to walk where he filmed.
Who gives a fuck to india?

Ever been to Australia? If so I'd love to hear about your experience.
This need to be added, if your two ppl a hotell room in a rather fasional state will be avaible for around 70-100 dollars.. And that includes breakfest.. And always book online, most hotells in Oslo have 20% discount if you sign up as a member, and its totaly free...
Mashallah loved da raindeer hide 👍✌
Gabiel, please travel to Malaysia again.. Penang , Sabah, Langkawi, KL, Samporna Sabah..
@Gabriel Traveler
Tank you for posting a very useful video for fellow travellers! May I ask if you pay tax on top of, or included in the price shown in the stores/restaurants?
There's no tax on top of the bills in stores and restaurants. It's included in the price.
Gabriel Traveler thank you for the prompt response!
junugrung and we don't generally tip in Norway, the income is so high even among waitress even in "cheap" restaurants that they can live of that income. The same can be said in all the Nordic countrys.
Gabe have you considered Japan or Taiwan in the future?
A blessed good day sir Gabriel wooww what a nice very stunning beautiful city of Oslo norway and thanks for sharing how expensive and budget foods around Oslo norway keep safe Godbless u from your solid fan viewer from the philippines sir vhin 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🙏🙏👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂👏👏👏👏
Was the "Free Comic Book Day" bag yours? What do you read? And Norway is VERY pricey. I have friends that live there, and they come to the US to shop a lot.
I don't remember that bag so no, I guess that wasn't mine. I'm currently reading "The Buried Giant" by Kasuo Ishiguro. Although, to say I'm "reading" it is a bit misleading. I bought it in Morocco back in January and I'm only about 1/5th of the way into it. I don't find much time for reading these days. But I used to be a voracious reader years ago.
Love your video, but I was screaming at the screen the whole time as you went in some of the most ghetto places in Oslo. Anker Hostel is like in a rougher place anyway, next to Hauseman's Gate, but then you when on to Brugata which is where all the heroin addicts hideout. "Gritty" is a good way of describing it LOL. Go to Frogner and Holmenkollen! Much nicer (:
The Honeymelon was listed with "Stk" which means per piece.
13kr per melon.
Could you please enlighten us on how to book these hostels prior to arrivals in different countries? Any website?
Here's a video in which I talk about that: czcams.com/video/kJ-7jm4pAgw/video.html
This really isn't that bad. Iceland has gotten insanely expensive as of late. The country is trying to bleed the tourists dry and think all the tourists want are stuffed puffins and the blue lagoon. It really breaks my heart to see a country that I love so much act so scammy. $15 for a small cup of soup is just nuts.
Every time you pronounce kg as "kay gee" a european cringes
Love ur videos tho keep it up im just messing around.
Why is that? They always say "kilogram"? It's quite a mouthful.
you can just say "kilo" also
Yeah, most people just say "kilo". 😁
Um i say kay gee
Gabriel Traveler, good job. Together we are strong :) :)
I kinda agree with you, that the center of Oslo is grittier than in Stockholm or Copenhagen, or even Helsinki. At least the Eastern part of Oslo's center, which include eg. Grönland and Töyen (immigrant areas). It's not the most beautiful city in the World, but it's still a great place to visit. It's just a shame that it's so goddamn expensive, even for a person coming from another rich country. The only time I ate out was at that cheaper area, I had a kebab that was about 9 euros.
Nice video mate.. Thumbs up from India. I'm glad you know water cannot be trusted in India :P and about our Hinduism ;)
I live in Norway in trondheim the Third biggest city please take a tour there
im planning to go to Norway either using package tour guide or YOLO... first timer... didn't expect Oslo has so many immigrants.. like everywhere you go..... i think i prefer the nature, the culture-thingy type of views instead of going into the cities... any video on the Norwegian life beyond the cities?
No, I didn't travel beyond Oslo. Partly because Norway was so expensive and I couldn't afford to stay there long. Next time I'll explore more of the country because the scenery looks absolutely gorgeous.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos I can assure u it is! Try the fjord area north of Stavanger to Trondheimsfjord. Every where there should be great. Most famous is Preikestolen (perpendicular lookout over fjord), Trolltunga (perpendicular daring slab lookout), Briksdalen (view to steep glacier), Geiranger (winding perpendicular fjord). Travel by bus, maybe hitchhiking. No trains going up the west coast. Going further north is the marvellous landscape of Lofoten islands, then Troms(county) with Senja island and Tromsø town. There is of course also North Cape if you opt for going far north.
The prices are similar to Northern Canada im from Yellowknife.
note that the pizza you showed is. really cheap place. a regular more expensive pizza place like Pepped you easily pay 280-330kr for a pizza plus drink of 35-45 kr.
Henrik H Koch inflation
I dont think he realized the scale of the pic of pizza. The 20 dollars was for a 16 inch pizza and 50 ounce bottle of coke.
2560 Rs. for a pizaaa ?? huhhhhh
and what was the pizaa price of what gabriel showed in this video ??
I was told Norway was expensive, but I live in N California and it's expensive here. I price checked a few things before I left, so I thought I was good. 1st I went to Copenhagen. Ok, like mid-pricy San Francisco. Got to Trondheim, and my mind was blown! The cheapest college campus burger was about $16. Restaurant burgers $25-$30. Dahls, the cheapest beer $16-$19 depending on location.🤦🏾♀️ So lucky, my friend who invited me was also prepared to treat me the whole time I was there. I'm not that type of person, but I had to be. We're beer geeks, so $20-$30 for a glass of beer.
Gabriel , have you been to Hawaii ?? You don't have to go far to find averages prices ..
Yes, been to Hawaii tons of times, lived there twice: czcams.com/users/gabejedmosearch?query=Hawaii
do the northern lights appear at night in Oslo?
SO expensive in Oslo: even in immigrant part of city. Tq Gabriel.
Strawberry price was not for kg but for a pack which seemed more like 200-250 grams :)
Thanks.
You're very welcome. Great video btw!
definitively not for a kg!
hey, when is the video about Berlin is coming?:)
I'm posting another video about Copenhagen next, then there will be a video from a ferry boat on the Baltic Sea, then Berlin after that.
If this is Norway, where are the Norwegians?
They are in Sweden buying cheap food.
Ha ha. Freaking tourists take over all the Oceanic Climate places.
After having travelled to so many countries, do you ever wish that you were born/living in a country other than the USA/Canada?
No I'm glad to be from where I'm from. I'm also glad that I'm able to leave and see other places. But North America is a good place to call home.
Sweet :)
Ahhhh, the land of the great Harald Baldr.
So, which is more expensive Switzerland or Norway ?
I thought Switzerland was.
Looks like the prices are basically the same as other western european countries
Those are normal prices here in Seattle. In comparison to Iceland I feel like Norway is way more affordable.
You should mention which area you are staying...maybe a map would help
I said the name of the hostel, so people can look it up online and see where it's located. I didn't know the name of the neighborhood, and most tourists won't know Oslo before coming there so they won't know about the specific neighborhoods.
Nice-looking city; pricey 'a f', it's true! ~Interesting video/vlog, **Gabe...!*
Gabriel Traveler,, which country is more expensive , NORWAY OR SWEDEN ??
Norway was a bit more expensive than Sweden.
Norwegians flock across the Swedish border for cheaper shopping. That should you give an impression of which country is more expensive.
Why am I not surprised that the European countries are the most expensive? I would definitely buy food from supermarket and make my own breakfast, lunch and dinner!
How did you like your stay at Anker hostel?
It was great, nice place and perfect location close to everything.
Wow that pizza is super expensive. That pizza costs only 60 kr. in Denmark
Will you go to Germany too? For example Hamburg or/and Berlin? After that you could go to Prague. I can highly recommend that City. best Food and beer in the world :)
and by the way, the beer in prague is about 1,50 Dollar instead of 12 bucks in Oslo ;)
Next stop after Copenhagen: Berlin! After that Zurich. After that probably Austria, then maybe Prague.
its really not that bad compared to the bay area.
where its the norwegian black metal?
Where in Oslo is the hotel
- I'd be up for trying some reindeer 💪🏽
Are you up for trying some whale too? 😂
Harald Approves!
Very expensive. Are you in Denmark now?
Yes, currently in Copenhagen, the next videos will be from here. Really cool city.
Have you been to Canada lately....prices comparable to Norway!
Yes: czcams.com/video/bss-jJCTiAY/video.html
High prices like that stress me out too much, making it hard to enjoy a trip even if a country is fantastic otherwise.
Timothy Roper I hear you but Norway is worth it.
how can you get Norwegian money?
or do u pay with normal US money?
You can change US dollars, euros, British pound, etc. at a currency exchange desk in town, or go to an ATM and withdraw cash from your bank account using a debit card, and it will give you the local currency.
RANKINGS IN TERMS OF THE MOST NASTY BUDGET FOR BACKPACKERS
1. NORWAY 2. SWITZERLAND 3. ICELAND 4. SWEDEN 5. DENMARK.....
Lol, you went to one of the most foreigner-dense cities in norway
Hmm I thought Switzerland was the most expensive country. Good to know! haha
It might be a tie. They're both super expensive. I'll be going to Zurich, so I'll let you know!
awesome! Haven't been able to get down there yet. I've lived in Cologne for about 8 months 😊
+Gabriel Traveler are you ever going to visit albania?
Very likely I will visit Albania on this trip actually.
Western Australia is also very, very expensive guys...
you are in the most ghetto place in Oslo, mostly immigrants there and that is why it's cheap. Try to buy anything at Carl johans gate. If you go to some like 4 star restaurants a normal size burger will easily get you to 30$, pizza will be like 25$ a Coca-cola will be around 6$ for half-liter some places.
I live in norway and i dont Even realise how expensive it is. Maybe because we have more money per capita
20 NOK per hg means, 20 NOK per 100 gm, not per kg.
35 dollars for a haircut ?, definitely not having one there.
Ya, immigration has put a significant negative pressure on working class wages in Oslo compared to elsewhere in Norway, and that has, of course, resulted in much cheaper services being available in Oslo than in most other places in Norway. But keep in mind, those hairdressers working there, who are most likely immigrants, make shit for money compared to your local Norwegian hairdresser.
That is in a cheap store. Established hairdressers in malls are easily twice as much...
Haircuts from more serious companies such as H2 costs 100$+ in Norway as well. The one showed in the video is some random street company
I cut my hair at one of these "random street barbers" sometimes. They charge 25$ or 200kr
But I believe 1 us dollar is 8 in Norway
if you come to Québec, message me and come couch at my place man! ;-) Bienvenue!
Any idea what an average wage is here ?
Average wage pr. month in 2016 was $5560.
5:00 Marmaris is not a city it's a sea in Turkey
Marmaris is a Tourist town in Turkey .
Kay gee LOL
4 years ago the dollar to krone was not 8.6 but 5.5, so almost twice as expensive, but for a Norwegian in US everything was cheap
i think the most expensive country in the world is Iceland instead of Norway.
so very expensive. wow!
Go to Ukraine for a difference in prices. You'll be blown away.
That would be cool. I'll think about Ukraine for sure.
thatt is de reasin why all norwegians never go aut to eat, but rathher eat meals from home throaut de dey. PS Sorry for bad English, I am from Congo =)
Anders Edwardson, that is wrong, we do but depends where om the country.
Ohhh, Thank you-
we do go out to eat, but not several days a week
Those were kids jackets that's why.
Show the prices of beer and a McDonald's menus for relevant comparisons in your "How Expensive" videos...
In my next video about Copenhagen I show the price of a Whopper at BK. :)
