St George Utah Overland Adventure

- I am headed to St George Utah to explore the desert. On this particular trip, I am on another critter hunt. This area of Utah borders Arizona, and is part of the Majave Desert. There is much more to Utah than Moab, and this is a fine example of that. Absolutely beautiful terrain, beautiful wildlife, and a wonderful experience. This will be a multiple part series, so make sure to subscribe for the following episodes, we found something COOL! St George is a very cool area of the west, and seems to be less traveled.

Bro let me tell you... the quality of this video is spot on and so is the story telling. Keep at it.
Thanks man I appreciate it! 🙏
Great video. I've lived in the area for 40 yrs, and have seen the Chuckwalla only once. It was in an area SW of Gunlock, actually the lowest point in Utah. Lytle Ranch is located near the Beaver Dam Wash, this is where l found it. It's an interesting area, where the Mojave Desert, the Great Basin, and Colorado Plateau meet. Keep up the good work.
Thank you sir! 2 more episodes coming, we found something pretty cool!
Very much enjoyed this Tyler. Can't wait for the part 2.
Truly very fun meeting you at Expo Mountain. Thanks for spending that time with us all.
Greg Vasileff.
Thanks Greg! I appreciate you dude! Looking forward to next time! 🙏
Happy to shout a coffee for 30 mins of entertainment!
You are awesome man thank you! 🙏
Like everybody has mentioned in all of the other comments. I enjoy watching your high-quality, full of content videos.
You did mention in your Arkansas videos that you were unable to bring your dog. Mainly because of his age and some of the dangers he may get into. I would love to see you stay closer to home and make as many videos as you can with him while he is still able to accompany you.
In my opinion, I am here to watch you and the adventures that you go on. Even if it’s going to the same place so that you can bring those with you that makes it memorable for you. I do enjoy you going other places. but if I really want to see them places. I should be the one going.
I feel that you would get, at least, for the time being, more memorable moments, bring in your companion along for as many adventures as he has left. I promise to watch every video of you enjoying your time with those closest to you. Even if it has to be in your backyard.
She actually did come along in the Arkansas videos I put out, we just had to be careful because of the poisonous plants. There are certain trips I go on where she cant go, but the vast majority of the time she's with me/us. Since I camp just about every weekend, she gets to go on a LOT of trips. Don't worry, after 2 more episodes of this series you will be seeing a lot of Blue! She has been exploring the country with us a lot this year. Shes lived quite the life! Thank you for your heartfelt comment, I really do appreciate it! 🐶
@@IndependenceOverland that’s great! I just wanted to put it out there that I would be OK if you did a little more videos closer to home. If it was harder for her to travel so far.
Keep up the great work. You’re killing it!
I had to laugh when you said Chuckwalla. I was born in Kingman Az. Lived there till I was 6. But when there a friend and me were gone all day and my baby sitter was mad of course not knowing where I was. We caught a Chuckwalla, put it in a shoe box I gave it to her as a gift. When she opened it, it scared the you know out of her. She forgot to be mad at me for being gone. Lol😅
Haha that’s pretty awesome! 🤣
Love this channel as you blend adventure overlanding and creature exploration. Keep it up!
This is sooo GOOOD!!! Love the narrative and scenery! 🙏❤️🦅
Thank you for checking it out!
Amazing video! Just incredible sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode.
Hey thanks for checking it out Pat! I didn’t know you had found the channel!
Another awesome travel video I’m sure I’ll watch more than once!! Thank you for being us along to beautiful Utah!
Thanks buddy!
Good stuff, great pics, amazing scenery. Gooday from Australia.
Thank you sir!
New subscriber here. Impressive production values and camera work! I love this area and you represented it well. Can't wait to see some more!
Thank you for checking it out! 🙏
My friends give me a hard time about my Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey on camping trips, but it's nice for drinking straight up. Nice to see I'm not alone!
Great job on editing this one Dude!
Yeah it’s good stuff! I stand with you! 😆
Thanks for watching man!
Very cool video! Utah & definitely an incredible place to explore
Thanks man!
loved the video. Overlanding and herping yessss. i do it all the time. i have reptiles and love to find them in their natural habiat. Continue that way.
Stay tuned man, there’s some
Stuff coming up in the next few episodes you’re gonna like!
It has been a few years since there has been enough water / snow melt for the falls and Gunlock to run so you got to see something special / why there was so many people. But glad you enjoyed your trip. The St George area is awesome. We love having it as our backyard to play in.
Oh well that’s cool! Had no idea it was a rare thing to see. Hopefully the rains and snowpack keep up this Fall/Winter!
Dude... love it. I live in Cedar City and explore all of Southern Utah in my FJ62 landcruiser. Its incredible.. there are so many trails people don't know about, crazy high areas above 11k feet off-roading and then you can drop in 30 min. all the way to St. George back to 3K feet. There is so much in South Utah.
Such a cool state man! You could spend a lifetime exploring out there it seems like. I bet it’s a good time in your Land Cruiser, aside from the fuel consumption!
Hah! yeah I have a 40 Gallon tank. Are you still thinking about the 300 series?
@@IndependenceOverland
@@Gerbyq the next vehicle info is on lock down for now! But the Fj will remain! 😃
@@IndependenceOverland awesome... Yeah keep that FJ! It'll keep its value. I'm sure you'll again go for something with 2 solid axles.
Wow epic content great episode this is what overland / camping is about the FJ is a beat greetings from South Africa
Too cool! I want to come your way at some point! Thank you for watching!
I don't drink much liquor but PB Whiskey at camp is my favorite! It's good cold with ice or can put some in coffee or hot chocolate.
Oh in hot chocolate sounds pretty good to me!
Love this video. Great work!!!
Thank you! 2 more episodes in the series coming right up!
If you use a 10x10 pizza stone on the bottom rack of the oven (ironically - you don't have to only cook pizza on a pizza stone) but, if you put that stone on the bottom rack, it helps distribute the heat a little better, and prevents burning. I'm using a welding blanket cover for mine also, but I went a little extra haha 😂
That is a damn fine idea sir!
@@IndependenceOverland thank ya sir! New subscriber here, BTW. Really digging your content. Some binge worthy stuff here, man!
@@Wklambert I appreciate that sir! Thank you!
Man, you took us on an incredible journey. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for checking it out!
@@IndependenceOverland I don't know if you only do solo trips, but I would love to hit some trails with you sometime.
Man your videos are the best
Thank you Jeff! 🙏
Well done. Excellent content.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Killing it man :)
Thank you sir!
You need momentum with the dunes or this kinda sand bro
And preferably unlocked
Drop those tires down to 15 and youll get through any kinda sand with that thing , theyve been made for this damn desert ❤
Yeah, I tried my best with momentum but the challenge here was this climb is right after a decent. It was shaped like a big V, so going to the bottom full speed would be like hitting a wall. It was a climb unlike others I’ve found. Pretty fun though!
Finding locals that know where and what you’re looking for there is a plus next time try ( Matt’s off-road recovery) they are also on CZcams and live in the area thanks for sharing your videos
That’s a solid idea. There are still 2 more episodes to this series though, so let’s see what I find in the next episodes! 😃
Man underrated channel right here! I'm a newly sub, I absolutely love your content!
Thanks man I appreciate you!
Great video
Thank you!
Local spots are solid here. Keep them secret.
Lovely video
I appreciate it!
Very cool trip! I need to check out more about Utah. Moab is all I know and have been to😅
Thanks buddy! There’s endless places to explore out there. Such a cool state.
Not gonna lie I get a little excited when I see a new video posted😂
Gonna chill and enjoy it now😁
Thanks Mark! 🙏
Them power lines go over the mountain to enterprise then north to Salt Lake City. How St. George and Hurricane get their power.
Yeah I know they are necessary. I just don’t like camping under buzzing electrical lines. I feel like I am surrounded by enough of that on a daily basis.
Good videos generated story telling. I’m from that area, I did hear you mention you were on the Utah Arizona boarder. But it’s more of the Nevada Utah border. I’m sure u are aware but for people that are going there and haven’t been there, that might be some helpful information. Hope that doesn’t irritate you, just trying to be helpful . Keep the videos coming.
No worries at all thank you for mentioning it!
That hill climb reminded me of that time in Moab - Elephant Hill maybe - where we had to just floor it and hope for the best. Same soft sand and steepness. Your rig probably weighed a bit less back then!
Haha yeah probably just a little less 🤣. That was such an awesome trip!
@@IndependenceOverland sure was!
Screwball is the best!!
Man I love it!
🙏
Damn that looks like such a fun trip - can't wait for part 2. When did you get front locker installed on your FJ?
I’ve had the front locker for about 4 years now. It out it in when I did the rear axle upgrade.
@@IndependenceOverland ah nice. Great setup 🤙🏼
Enjoyed watching the adventure and looking forward to part 2. Would also love to grab some of those bottles. Do you have a link or brand name?
They are actually made by Nalgene from what I understand. Thermo Scientific is the name. I’d search it on eBay for packs of them. And it appears a knock off are now on Amazon, though I can’t vouch for how good they are.
Wide mouth
amzn.to/48cVTbo
Great video, you have got to grease that squeak 😅
Uniballs + fine dust = noise. The next truck will have way more rubber joints for this very reason
The Lone Wanderer might be a good name for this video episode. I would recommend plenty of Old Western Music & Cowboy Music in the background. Is the FJ over its GVM?
The Fj is definitely heavy. It’s been a long while since I weighed it. But the reason I put the beefy rear axle under the rear is due to weight. She’s obese.
Cool video! Out of curiosity, did you get a GVM upgrade for the FJ? Looking at all the stuff you’re bringing along.. payload is not great for FJs (literally the only downside haha). Cheers
We can’t do GVM upgrades here in the US unfortunately. What I have done to the suspension is beyond what a basic Fj GVM upgrade in Australia is though. I have an 80 series rear differential built into a Diamond Axle (heavy gauge steel axle) and heavy duty springs. The truck has handled it fine over its life. I would recommend a brake upgrade though.
@@IndependenceOverland That’s awesome. I expected you’d done something! You’ve definitely made most of this FJ with all the mods and travel you’ve done. Excited to see your new rig in the future though I hope you can keep the FJ too!
I’ve got 37k miles on mine so plenty left to go!
I love your content, recently bought my 1st FJ and live in CO as well. Want to be my mentor 😁
Awesome to hear, the Fj is an awesome vehicle! I have a walk around video on here of mine, if you need some ideas on how to spend a whole lot of money! 😂
Good whiskey choice!
Whats your fave bones coffee flavor? (spotted that sticker)
I would say Mustachio Pistachio as a cold brew is probably my top choice! Macadamiac is a close second!
@@IndependenceOverlandI haven't tried either of those. Jamaican Me Crazy is good. Also digging this new rice Krispy webslinger one.
What’s with the gloves while airing down?
To keep gunk off my cameras while messing with my suspension.
Did you check the Chuckwalla trail over by Ivins ???
No, I considered it but it was really busy with foot traffic and I needed to film 4x4 stuff. 2 more episodes in the series though, so cool stuff is coming!
@IndependenceOverland makes sense, I've been on it but never saw a chuckwalla critter there
How long have you been drinking that crack rock unicorn sparkles coffee? Hot day, be a man. Drink lava. ❤
haha! Maybe I will send you some for Christmas so you can get hooked on the Bones crack rocks too 😂.
9:42 minutes in, and I'm trying to dial in your perspective. Upset about power lines and pump stations, possible noise from a freeway... so I imagine you want to be as far away from the markings of humanity as possible, yet look at your immediate surroundings. Your rig and your gear! Talk about markings of humanity! Pizza while overland! Ya might do better with a couple of pack mules, a donkey, and some beef jerky. A blanket roll to sleep on the ground with, and a canteen with a water vapor cooler canvas wrap. Oh well. I can only take so much negative vibe audio coupled with your gorgeous cinematography that just trashes the pristine moments. Bailing out early. I hope you find whatever it is that brings you serenity. Unsubscribing for now. Peace & Happiness.
Lol bye.
Yeah! And what’s the deal with this guy wearing shoes and speaking American English!!! Everyone knows if you REALLY wanna be one with nature, you have to be naked and speak with the colors of the wind!!
I don’t know if I’m angry enough to unsubscribe and all that…….I mean I DID watch this video of this guy, while sitting on a modern toilet, in my climate controlled house, on a 1500 dollar laptop…….attempting to find a cool place to do some cool sh*t outside…….
Maybe the next episode will be enough to push me over the edge
😂
An endangered animal that spends its life hidden and dormant to conserve energy isn’t really worth saving……..is it? Change my mind?
Most disappointing comment I have ever read. That mindset really bums me out dude.
@@IndependenceOverland perhaps, but I’d be more depressed when they start revoking the citizens right to access these areas of public land to protect an animal that no one would see even at ideal populations.
Who cares if we see them, they have been here for hundreds of millions of years. It would be sad to lose any animal.
