- Overlanding 4x4 Adventures In Arkansas | Would You Cross Or Turn Back?
In episode 2 of our Arkansas overland adventure, we continue to explore what the "Natural State" has to offer. We see some incredible places, explore some incredible trails, and find ourselves in a situation where we have to either backtrack from a day of travel or push through before the storm starts. This episode has some beauty, some relaxation, and some anxiety.

How does this have such little total views? One of the best off roading ep i've seen this year! Well done!
Well it did just come out. But I agree, his videos need more views!
@@MissouriAdventures Right. it is such inspiration esp for FJ owners! keep up the awesome content tho @ Tyler.
his stuff is awesome, youtube algorithm is stupid lol it really is a pain
Thank you all, very cool to read this kind of stuff! It'll get there some day. As Live2dayWanderland said, the YT algorithm is a mysterious beast.
This was such an engrossing production. I loved every minute of it. There were twists and turns, great tips and product plugs, and amazing editing and cinematography. You did a wonderful job with this one.
Thanks man, that means a lot!
Needs more thumbs up
Not gonna lie, the rope swing part when you said it “made us feel like kids again” made me tear up. Man, my childhood was full of kayaking these beautiful teal rivers in the Boston Mountains. Camping along the rivers, kipping rocks, and rope swings. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything else. ❤️ It was an incredible experience
I see it as a blessing to live before iPads started raising children. We played plenty of video games and watched movies, but we were outside kids at our core.
same, im taking my boys on these trips now and I couldn't be happier about it
Falling Water falls during the summer is pretty busy with people and it's not running near as much. Yall probably filmed it at one of the best times. If you want to try fishing in those streams...wait until dusk, grab a light, and small pole with bacon. Crawfish will grab onto the bacon. Gently lift them out of the water and shake them into a bucket.
Pretty impressive how capable Land Rovers are from the factory
One of the many reasons why I love that truck!
So blessed to call this place home. Arkansas is a hidden gem.
You’re videos are so well put together, beautiful videography. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 great editing. Love it all. Voiceovers sound good too. Love the channel man. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks bud, I appreciate it!
@@IndependenceOverland you got it, keep up the grind🙏🏼
Loved watching it on patreon, and glad to see it getting lots of views here. Well done.
I appreciate the kind words buddy! It seems to be doing good so far! These travel videos are hit and miss with views, so we will see.
I got nervous again watching that first crossing 😂. Amazing!
Thanks man! You did great!
Those water crossings weren’t nearly as bad about 3 weeks ago when I crossed them. I was going the other way, starting from Woolum on the first leg of the OOAT. Great video.
Nice video Tyler! Amazing and beautiful country, rivers and water color!!!! Those water crossings looked sketchy....but something you will never forget! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks for stopping by to check it out bud!
Discovered Ark just this year and have already been twice. There is so much to discover and yes it is underrated, but shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone 😉
I dont share specifics for that reason! I dont want to ruin it!
Wow!! Professional Fun! Much enjoyed watching on the big screen!!
Ahhhh yes, my backyard. 😎
Pretty cool place to explore!
Fantastic content. Truly inspiring!
I love that place @ 2:22 I used to go there as a kid and the water is always beautiful!
What place is it?
This was an AWESOME adventure! The river crossings were next level. Really enjoyed this one Tyler! 😁👊🏼
Thanks buddy I appreciate it man!
Excellent video, thanks!!
As always, thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for watching!
Love the Ozarks and have camped at that both of those spots at the beginning of the video. There’s so many epic places to see around there.
The good thing is the water is still that cold in the summertime. Unfortunately, come the end of July into early October it’s pretty dry up there and some of the rivers and streams dry up.
Is there a location for the spots at the beginning?
Epic video! Loved your narration! Our Ozarks crossings can get deep after a good rain! Let us know when you come back this way!
Thank you so much! We will return!
Fantastic video! Gorgeous scenery. I just put the Ozarks on my list.
Awesome adventure!
Fantastic video, as always!
Thank you for taking the time!
"Calm down sodas!" Yes. Great vid. Thanks
Haha. We wondered who would catch our drift 🤣
Oh man, the scenery on the trails in Arkansas is pretty spectacular. This might be the place that finally lures us to travel east of the Rockies. Great video!
definitely worth the trip!
What an amazing video and experience!!! Snapped subscribing!
Thank you!! 🙏
I was born and raised in Arkansas but by the twists of fate ended up currently in the Florida flatland. I so miss AR but so very glad I found your video; it was like going home and reliving my childhood. So glad you enjoyed the beauty that is Arkansas! Great job with video and narrations, keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
What a great video. The Ozarks are absolutely beautiful. I always end up here in the summer and those creeks are always so low.
Another fantastic episode, thanks for sharing. What spectacular scenery.
Thank you for taking the time to check it out!
Great video and excellent sound design! Amazing shots and story telling as well. You’re firing on all cylinders!
Thanks buddy! This one turned out pretty sweet!
Been to Arkansas a couple of times. So many water crossing. Beautiful country. We plan on going back again in the spring.
It’s so cool there!
I've been watching a lot of videos from Arkansas lately, and I really need to make a trip out there happen. It looks like absolutely amazing out there. I really enjoyed your video! Subbed!
Thanks for stopping by to check it out!
I visited Arkansas and it was very “snakey” in the water! Glad to see The Ozarks is different!
Yeah this whole part of the country is quite heavy in snakes.
That was a very well produced and entertaining adventure!
Thank you!
Great video you guys, so sinky, super sinky mud LOL loved it. Arkansas is always amazing, we love taking a break from winter camping in the north and going down early march when its perfect weather
Haha she’s pretty funny! Thanks for checking it out buddy! Arkansas is cool, I really look forward to another run down there!
Your videography and narration are top notch. I absolutely love watching your videos. Engineer’s Pass and Arkansas are both on my list after watching your videos.
Thank you for checking them out, I really appreciate it! Lots to see and explore on these areas!
Another amazing video sir! Love your content! I can't wait to watched next and see you at another expo.
Thanks man I really appreciate you tuning in! I am back from a 2 week trip, time to start editing the next one!
Oh WOW!! That’s the area we used to camp and hunt just down a ways in that little road. Haven’t been there in years. Used to be a beautiful lil homestead just across the little water crossing against a bluff. We swung on the rope and the kids caught big green bullfrog tadpoles.
Catching tadpoles was a childhood favorite of mine!
Your best video so far! Well done
Thank you!
What an inspiring journey!
Good videos and realization, good work!
Greetings from Portugal!
Thank you for tuning in to watch it!
Thanks!
This is really nice of you Charlie! Thank you so much! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed our neck of the woods. That was some sketch choices especially at night😄
Good stuff as always. Would love to tag along next time your over this way. I have a Jeep but slowly working on daughters Blue FJ hoping she’ll get the bug to come with me eventually😄
Yeah, driving through that water was intimidating to say the least!
Arkansas is our home and definitely under appreciated by most. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching it!
Good call on turning around on that trail. Ozark mud is unlike anything you’ll experience anywhere else. If you’re not careful, its mud pits will swallow you whole and won’t let go.
Thanks for capturing the Ozarks so well! I frequent most of the spots you featured and they are stunningly beautiful. Come back in the Fall next time. It’ll blow your mind. Cheers! 🍻
Sounds like a good plan to me! I bet the Fall colors are insane!
Amazing trip. Really enjoyed watching this off-road adventure. Pretty cool.
Thank you!
Great Video! The water crossings are definitely one of the best parts of the Ozarks aside from the "natural" untouched land. It has that raw explorer vibe.
yeah it does, its a very wild feeling place!
Arkansas mud is something else! Gotta full send or no send!
You’re not joking, that stuff was crazy!
The waterfalls are best/only seen in the spring. Don’t think you can come here anytime of the years and see them.
There’s very little water left in the summer months.
Best time to come to Arkansas is spring time.
Congratulations on the video. Very nicely done. Some of us locals would really love to introduce you to the most beautiful parts. More beautiful cliffs and rivers await.
Thank you for the offer, that sounds awesome! There is a lot to see down there that is hidden to everyone but the locals!
@@IndependenceOverland Newton County (upper Buffalo area) has endless bluffs, camping spots, and places to canoe, Kayak, and swim. This is just one little glimpse at the Steel Creek Campground czcams.com/video/g-8YJMlbRpk/video.html
Great trip. We planned to hit Arkansas this fall and just got back from Keweenaw UP. It's excellent up there. You should give it a look.
Will do, thanks!
nice man, Im in your hood right now.
Awesome content. Come to Tennessee next.
Just got home from a 2 week trip, and last night while driving I seriously had the thought “I bet Tennessee has some cool stuff no one talks about”.
I Overlander has a lot of campsites around the Ozarks. I have actually used it to find campsites all over the US..
Yes sir we use it too. It doesn’t seem to have a lot of mid trail kind of camping however. It’s mostly side of the road kind of stuff, which we use on our way to places quite often.
@@IndependenceOverland I agree with you there. I add any spot that we use on trails. Hopefully with more people using it the growth will continue.
trail discovery in the Ozarks is a part of my plan for retirement this summer! thanks for some insight, although i'm not sure how deep a river i can ford with my mostly stock 4runner.... gonna need to research that!
Yeah that was an intimidating river, but in the summer months it shouldn't be so deep.
Nice video!!
Whitaker point and Buffalo National River are two fun places to visit.
Be careful in Arkansas state park areas if you fly drones, it is banned by Arkansas State parks. You will need a special drone permit which takes 1-2 weeks to get approved and drone insurance. Those are kinda pricey...
Also, be careful about black bears out there.
Well versed in dealing with black bears here in Colorado. The drone stuff is good to know!
Next time you folks are in the area and looking for a third wheel, drop me a line. Would love to go on a run with you folks.
I actually laughed out loud at "now the mud is going to get muddier"...and "sinky". I didn't see a link for Aspen Valley Farms in the description.
I was in a hurry to get out the door and get to the coast! Link added, thanks buddy!
I learned real fast that my GMC Al-Terrain lives up to its name I can get stuck everywhere anywhere at all times dry mud snow 6000 lbs corvette V-8. 0-60 4.2 seconds. Stuck stuck stuck learned hard way turn off traction control and you can go thru much more. 😁
The Toyota off road traction control systems work surprisingly well, I’m not familiar with other manufacturers systems. As long as you know your vehicle and how to get out of stuff!
Also, because I drive a Toyota my 0-60 time is like a minute and a half 🤣
No wonder i dont see much footage of arkansas wheeling. Its a gigantic mud pit! I will stay here in CO, bouncing off the rocks
😂 it’s definitely a wet state
FJ for the win! Water crossing at 27 was pretty insane. Never hit any water over my headlights before. Have you had any issues since?
None so far. Possibly a squeaky idler pulley, but it seemed to dissipate.
Ive seen snorkel installs but how well are they sealed to prevent water seepage? Havent seen that part.
They have a weep hole that is optional to plug before install. Honestly though, a snorkel isnt even necessary for this deep of a crossing for most 4x4 vehicles as long as you keep the bow wave in front of you.
Just found you guys and SUBSCRIBED. looks like a WONDERFUL trip. Do you share your tracks?
Jason
Sorry Jason, I don't share stuff. I try to do my part in keeping things wild. If locations get shared online, it can ruin them quickly.
@@IndependenceOverland
I can understand that. Subbed either way. Keep adventuring!
Hey. Just wondering if Mexico was your longest trip? Also wondering if you have ever been to British Columbia,Canada or ever considered coming here. I live on the Sunshine Coast of B.C. It’s small but beautiful. It’s also a good jump off point to see other places. Keep to cool videos coming. 👍
No, my longest trips have been 2 week trips to the PNW. I’ve done a few of them. In the future I plan to do several multi month trips filming in Canada/Alaska for a series I want to do. Not sure when that will be, but it’s part of my plan.
So much fun!
Hey T, what’d you do to shut down your 12v system during the crossings? Are you just running the Redarc fuse setup, and pulled those? Or or you running circuit breakers instead and just flipping that switch? Disconnect solar as well? Or did you just disconnect from the batteries all together?
I didn't shut sown anything but my 110v stuff. I have breakers on everything else, so if it were to blow I could reset it. Definitely not the best way to do it. I don't cross water this deep very often, so honestly the thought didn't cross my mind like it should have.
@@IndependenceOverland gotcha. Yeah I was just curious cause with my Redarc system they recommended fuses and as much as I trust their knowledge, I like breakers sooo much better too. So much easier to shut down and turn back on. Just curious.
I’m using their fuses for my dual system. But I may switch out to breakers in the future. Thing I didn’t think about was that I now have my compressor/locker wired to my aux battery which means if I did shut it down for a water crossing, I’d lose my rear locker abilities. Damn hindsight! 😆🤦♂️.
How many observant viewers noticed in the ending clip @ 38:38 the Jeep driving away with their RTT cover half on.?
Haha your the first to notice it as far as I know!
I'm not sure exactly where your were exactly but that water is probably not much warmer than that ever.
The water may be the same temp, but if it were warmer outside it sure would make it more enjoyable!
What part of Arkansas is this? Looking to plan a spring trip with my family. Thanks!
Central, though I’m not entirely sure the exact spots. My buddy planned it.
Is your aversion to river crossing the same as my wife’s aversion to shelf roads. 🤣🤣🤣
When did you end up filming this? I need to check out Arkansas, not far from me. But it's crazy hot right now.
This was around mid April I believe.
Hi all that’s crazy beautiful can you please share tha location please thanks
Sorry man, I don't share locations. Sharing stuff online gets places over run and trashed too quickly. I have seen it personally so I no longer share.
Alligators r fairly common still just not up there. I don't think they were ever up there. Less tho then at one time ya
From what I read they were, but that way back before either of us were alive.
better to avoid 😮😢
Avoid the water?
@@IndependenceOverland 🤣🤣🤣
Arkansas mudding jeep XJ territory
Yeah it can be pretty gnarly out there! IFS needs portals to get too far into that kind of gnarly mud.
Another level of over cooked eggs?
Yup
It's called the Ozarks dude. Not just Arkansas. It's the OZARKS. So few people have zero clue about it. It's like america can't comprehend the region exists because it doesnt fit in with "the narrative" of how geography is laid out. Rockies and Appalachians and nothing else.
People in Springfield Missouri call that area the Ozarks too. Its an expansive area. Should I call Colorado "The Rockies" instead of Colorado? Chill.
Yes.
And you should definitely get worked up about random comments on ur youtube channel. Lol. (I knew you were a high strung string bean Colorado type. mR. paTaGOnia)
"I'm like such a doCumeNtary filmmmm maker." u probably tell urself in the shadows of ur mind.
Lol, no youre not. You shoot drone footage and 'oVerLAnD' and use final cut with lessons u find on youtube to edit, yet somehow act like youre Magellan X Chris Nolan. You make 'coNtEnT' and take urself way too seriously. Ur driving trucks into the woods to camp mate. Get over urself. Everyone is starting to get sick of people like u and this bs. Rednecks and boy scouts have been traveling those roads for decades and never required military grade equipment.
These things are worth taking the time to say and call out. It's becoming cringe.
@@IndependenceOverland
Arkansas is a shitehole. Visiting is much better than living there I guess. Some beautiful scenery but between the bugs, humidity, weather, allergies, etc etc glad I’m rid of that place.
P.S. the compass on my FJ has been blinking for years now lol.
🤣 peak summer can be harsh in that part of the country! And on the Fj compass, it’s like I set it and then it starts blinking within a month every time. And it’s not like I’m disconnecting my battery or anything 🤷🏼♂️. I think most people have one that blinks at this point!
@@IndependenceOverland by the way I have to switch out my seats in my 08 FJ but I’m not looking forward to dealing with an airbag light in the dash. I’ve seen your video of your seat swaps but would really like details on how you did it. 07 vs 08 difference makes a difference or not I don’t know.
