Token saving part of my brain: If you don't have a lot of different sizes for shadows could use sacrifice sprite space to get the effect you want? agree that oval is very weird and unruly
The shadows need to be drawn underneath all of the enemy sprites. Some enemy sprites will cover up parts of the shadows. That is why you need to draw ALL of the shadows first. Then you need to draw ALL of the enemy sprites on top

I just don't get the reason for another loop for the shadows. Why?
