I used to live in Vancouver and now in Portland. I totally agree with you that Portland is losing a lot of not only businesses but also PEOPLE. Taxes are too high and traffic is AWFUL. Also, I can unequivocally say that Vancouver is CLEANER than Portland! Less crime in Vancouver as well. Much easier to navigate Vancouver. Great video!!

Thank you for your videos! My husband and I relocated from California to unincorporated Vancouver approximately 3 months ago. We watched many of your videos before looking for a home in WA.

I suggest you take a drive from Surrey BC to Banff or Calgary - your husband will be stunned by the scenery.

Thank you for this video…it was very helpful! My husband and I were born and raised in Washington but moved to Indiana 3 years ago. We are homesick and looking to move back in that area! This video really helped break down the exact areas we were thinking of moving to so I appreciate your video so much!☺️

It's so funny that I just found your channel. My spouse and I are living in South California and are looking to relocate to Vancouver, WA area end of October/beginning of November. Thanks for all the tips, it's very much appreciated!

Super helpful video! It was timely some family was visiting and had questions that were answered in your video. We were also looking up the history of the “Plains”, like Fourth Plain, Mill Plain, etc.

Excellent video! You covered exactly the areas we are interested in. We were there last month and really liked Vancouver and Camas so we decided to come back to check out Ridgefield and Washougal to see if Clark County is where we want to retire. I love that there is medical options in both Vancouver and Portland. Important for aging people like us although we are healthy 60 year olds. 🙂 I also read the Port of Vancouver is in the initial design phases for Terminal 1’s public marketplace that will feature 40,000 square feet of shops, breweries, local fresh foods and more. That sounds pretty darn exciting!

This is so helpful. I’m ready to move to the Vancouver area and just trying to figure out the steps I need to take. My kids graduated from college this year so I’m looking for something quiet and with space and must be commutable to a TJ’s 😂. I will definitely be reaching out to you for help relocating. So glad I found you

Just an FYI: the term Southwest Washington covers everything west of the Cascades between Vancouver and Olympia-ish. Clark County is definitely part of it, but there are many more areas in SWW.

I use to live in Portland about 8 years ago and no one wanted to live in "The Couv" and now I find myself looking to move to the area. It seems to be developing nicely.

School ratings are an important part of us choosing where we want to settle. On the popular find-a-house realty websites, they usually offer a school score. In your experience, are these accurate? We're considering the Battle Ground/Brush Prairie area, as we'd like some acreage as well, but with what you said about the school district up there, about bonds not being passed, makes me wonder about their schools. Thanks for the great video & info, as usual!

Very helpful video, Hal! On the topic of Vancouver area numeric street names -- they seem very hard to get a mental grip on! For newcomers: It's at least helpful to identify which street types are north-south (eg: Ave, Ct) and which are east-west (eg: St, Cir) and where they number from in each area -- ie: the boundaries between NW, SW, SE and NE areas. And the usual highway numbering where odd numbers are primarily north-south (like 5, and 503) and even numbers east-west (like 500 and 502)

    • @halbyrd_
      @halbyrd_  Před rokem +1

Such great feedback on both your comments! I've found that I know my way around town very easily just based on memory, repetition, & Google Maps, but if I had to give someone verbal directions I have no clue what the street name is! Haha. I always tell people to just focus on learning the major streets on your side of town (East side: Mill Plain Blvd, SE 164th, & SE 192nd) & all the highways (1-5, 205, Hwy 14, and Hwy 500) that will get you 90% and GPS will do the rest!

We left riverfront Vancouver, WA this year. Not safe, all the homeless are migrating north from Portland.
Way too many crazy tents and car/condo break-ins!

This area has rapidly went to crap. I grew up in California unfortunately and was stationed in Mississippi (I should of stayed there) but moved to camas when I got out. My mom is from camas and I have been coming here since i was born. Never had a issue with car break ins. 3 times in clark county I have been a victim of car break ins. The tweakers and bums are dangerous. We are leaving because of the new gun laws and over crowding. My wife grew up here and wants to leave

For a while now Ive been watching your channel and searching for a possible home in Vancouver area, and Ive noticed over the last few months it seems like much of Vancouver and the surrounding area has become HOAs. Why is that ?
I wont move to an HOA.

On the specific topic of the names of streets "underlying" SR503 -- wow, that's a mess! I think there's an opportunity for a prominent local CZcamsr to straighten this out!
It looks like Google and Bing have digested some bad data, because their maps don't match StreetView. It would make sense for NW 117th Ave, going north, to change into NW 122nd Ave, because its alignment moves over to the east. Except that right where it acquires that alignment (north of NE 179th St), it runs parallel to another street ALSO called NW 122nd Ave, according to Google and Bing Maps!
However, if you check StreetView, in fact 503 is signed SW 10th Ave (ie: using Battle Ground naming), so there's no confusion at the actual location in person. Going south from NE 179th St, 503 appears to be signed Lewisville Hwy, (not NW 117th Ave nor NW 122nd Ave). Both Google and Bing maps have this wrong. Especially weird, just north of NE 179th St, Bing maps shows the southbound lane of 503 as NE 122nd Ave, and the northbound lane as SW 10th Ave! (...plus the adjacent "additional" NE 122nd Ave.) Both Google and Bing do know about Lewisville Hwy, but only north of Battle Ground.
No doubt this SR 503 and the streets it follows, probably have an interesting history of development and revisions. It even has a Wikipedia page.

I drive a ready mix truck in clark county. The street names are atrocious. Washougal and battle ground are the worse. You can easily end up on the opposite side of town if a single digit is off on the street adress

Im leaving SW Washington because of the recent gun laws that insleaze signed. Ironically i left my home state of CA as soon as i turned 18 because of the gun laws. I have family here and been coming to this area to visit family since i was born. 10 plus years ago this was a great area. Now its over crowded crime tweakers traffic. Its deteriorating rather quickly. On my free time i leave this area and head east into the Gifford pinchot forest or Idaho for a breath of freedom. Cant wait to leave.
