I smoked a pack a day for 10 years and couldn't quit. Always went back. I took an 8th of shrooms spent the night in my room and wrote down what I wanted to do which was quit. And it's been 4 years and I haven't touched a smoke since it's like a reset button.
I told myself I was going to do things and they all turned out true.
Weird. I love smoking while tripping. Weed and cigs.
@@richardbutkis It's all about what you had to do. Hungry people need to eat, thirsty people need to drink. Hungry honey badgers could go for cobras but hungry humans should not.
It breaks addiction patterns in the mind if you want it to
Psychedelics are everything I never knew I always needed
Can you elaborate what they have done for you?
Same
Literally helped me resolve my depression.
@@jamesevans2507 for me personally, it tore down this personal barrier I’ve grown when interacting with others around me aka it completely took away my social anxiety
I missed mushroom picking season in UK by about a month I'm devastated at a certain time you can pick them called liberty caps not done them since 18 I'm 34 now gotta wait till next year DEVASTATED lol
They allowed me to become grounded in my life, after the high. I came to the realisation that the things I feared in my life were so small and through dwelling on them, I was wasting time i could spend with the ones I loved. I still have bad days but that feeling I had of wanting to end my life has gone. I don’t recommend drugs but if you feel like I did and are fighting thoughts, then give it a go. I was lucky to have a friend who knew what I was trying to do and stayed with me throughout my trip. It saved my life.
Glad you didn't. Great job mentioning that it was you, not the substance that went wrong. Good advice too. 👍
Bufo did this for me. On ritalin and coffee since 13. Fully addicted to stimulants. One experience with Bufo (the psychedelic toad) completely made me not want caffeine or any uppers. No withdrawals, nothing. Amazing
The best part of a trip isn't the trip itself. Its how you feel after its over.
Yes!
Only people who have really triped say that
Not sure,I felt really depressed last time
@@jasonlancaster3281 you sure about that?
no
Matthew describes the dissolving of the self so eloquently. It's probably the scariest/most helpful door there is to walk through
Ego death. I experienced this for the first time when i was 16, sitting in a park with a group of friends on Friday evening. I literally experienced myself dying, watching my funeral, and then dissolving into the colorful ether of nothingness. Just my consciousness floating with no reference as to what I was. Then it all started rebuilding itself, all my realizations coming back one thought at a time. Like watching the shattering of a brick-wall but in reverse as all the bricks fly back together into their original positions like nothing happened. Only those bricks where my thoughts and identity.
@@brianpj5860 I literally had it where I would gain certain senses before others until I came back to reality
@@brianpj5860 you was sober?
@@billybobthekidiswack No, i was Hippyflipping on 2 tabs of ecstasy and a quarter Oz of mushrooms. I probably weighed 140lbs at the time.
If it wasn’t for the ecstasy putting me in a happy state of mind, it probably would of been a TERRIFYING experience. But because I was rolling hard (i dunno if anyone uses this term anymore, Rolling = being high of E) I was easily able to “let go” and not fight the experience.
See fighting the experience is a natural reaction, but it is also what can make a psychedelic experience go from difficult to worse, then you are on a bad trip. But I am not suggesting to do the same, nor am I endorsing this because it worked for me. I was very impulsive and immature back then and through my reckless behaviour I risked being killed on numerous occasions.
I was young and dumb, with no real concept of responsibility at the time. So i would impulsively make stupid decisions or jump straight into endeavours without foresight or a plan, as I was just living life hedonistically at the time. With my goal of Hedonism being to value; Having Fun, Being Entertained, and Feeling Good above all else. Even if that meant I had to take unknown risks, and chance of suffering along the way.
That was my mind-frame as a teenager. Just so you understand, that I do understand, how reckless and dangerous my experiences have been.
Ive grown alot since, so i can now look back and analyze my actions critically.
Duuuddee but every part of you wants to go the other way bc your not ready lol. But ones where you truly let it happen. My god can it be special
Psychedelics in a therapeutic/ritualistic setting is in my estimation, the most easily applied and efficient way of changing ones life for the better. When coupled with diverse forms of Meditation and Jungian psychotherapy, it can be what takes you from zero to hero of that is your aim. If you are disciplined and brave, this is the way.
This is the way
Wise you fucking are.

Thats the problem with smoking... Even these two dudes speaking about quitting smoking makes me want a cigarette. 16 year old me was an idiot.
Try some LSD.
You won't ever know, until you're there yourself.
So true
I took 5 grams three weeks ago..craziest trip I ever had lmao. Those chalk outlines that the police draw on the floor when somebody gets killed where hovering over my ceiling and kept shrinking and growing over and over like someone breathing. Watching CZcams videos whenever someone would speak its like the words didnt even make sense lmao almost as if they had mastered gibberish LMAO. Thought I was going crazy.
To add on, 1 hour felt like 10 minutes. Any clock I saw wasn't moving time (phone, laptop, watch), last whenever I closed my eyes it felt like that scene in spongebob where he needed to finish his essay and saw all the clocks while rushing to finish the essay lol. Point is don't do too much.
@@213cuz2 I don't watch TV when taking mushrooms. I just pop on that good old skyrim atmospheres and go to dream land. Reflect on life with a new perspective.
I only felt the time dilation when I made the mistake to smoke a joint without thinking that the effect would change entirely.
At that moment I felt like I was blasted off into another reality. It was a lot to handle but I wouldn't say it was bad. Came out with a lot of interesting insights from an incredible perspective.
I always feel like people need to understand that Psilocybin is not a party drug, for the exact reasons specified in this video. You gotta let go and go through your shit without that social anxiety.
But I also recommend a certain respect and reverence for the fungus. I won't go into, but you just have to really reflect on what you want as an outcome and be flexible with what you're shown.
Always have a sober sitter who knows what's up and knows how to comfort you in case you get overwhelmed. It's nothing to be afraid of, but sometimes you just wanna tap out.
I've only taken Psilocybin twice with a noticeable effect. But I sure as hell spent the years in between and after those trips reflecting and dissecting what was shown.
Lol thanks for coming to my ted talk hahaha
Edit: For anyone else reading this, if you're thinking about trying Psilocybin, take it responsibly and seriously!

"It looks like a living room." ... You did everything right but this one detail.
In nature, under the stars, with a few friends cannot be matched.
I just made a reply saying this and scrolled down to find this comment, even just overlooking some leafy trees in the late afternoon would be nice. But in an office with a blindfold, yikes.
I tried both and I preferred much more being in an hotel than in a park. Too many people around, 5 minutes walk to go to the toilette, sitting on the ground for hours is really uncomfortable. I love laying in bed, in 10 seconds I reach a clean bathroom if I need it. No sun, cold, wind. It's so much more relaxing.
It feels reassuring to hear someone who knows what’s up for a change. Thank you
nndmt was great for me. I did 90 days in a row, 3-5 times per day, after 3am before 5 am. Forever changes the way I view the world and people in general. In the 5 years since I have started two businesses, put two children through college, and increased my overall net worth. More importantly I am now able to interact with people where before my asperger's made it difficult to relate, although I have to admit I was fairly functional before, but now I feel comfortable in a social setting, whereas before this would have been unimaginable.
The guy looks like a shroomhead who tried to suit up nicely so people would listen to him. Really love him tho. Thank you Lex.

This is awesome! We are at a new dawn of psychedelic revolution to heal people and hopefully humanity as a whole. Love, peace and harmony.
Let's first get ALL humans less then 50 to experience cannabis, for door openers!
Such an experience would hopefully alleviate much fear in their lives. People would not be so fearful of other humans they avoid.
Shrooms are more "theraputic" than I want. It's totally different from mescaline. In fact, no patio planting plan is ever complete without a lot of San Pedro (Spirit of the Sky) and close relatives for the tall columnar cactus effect that doubles height every year. Pharmaceutical antidepressants sales would plunge if more people spent time patio gardening.
This speaks to me in the deepest levels. I’ve never had psychedelics but I’m totally down. Sounds like you level up in life. You have a volunteer here! 🙋🏻♂️
"Its the journey of the alone, into the alone. " -Kilindi Iyi
I love this
Terence McKenna said this as well in the late 80s; it was even said by the hermetic corpus dating to post/pre-renaissance time.
RIP Kilindi
I think this was originally said by Plotinus back in the 3rd century AD.
I’ve been micro dosing Mushrooms 🍄 for the last month. I have chocolate 🍫 bars infused with mushrooms. Every bar is 3.5 grams. I take small squares an draw, paint, play guitar, cook...I create, I’m an artist
It gives me a great feeling, in small doses. Great for depression!
I was once cleaning a creek during a barefoot walk in the forest after having eaten mushrooms. Going from the sand to the water to forest bed and mud, noticing the water drying on my skin or all the textures of the ground, touch and temperatures became important parts of my focus. This act of being an amphibian being that can walk through a variety of terrains is something that goes beyond the description of "going within," it still felt like it though.
Sometimes the body feels down because it desires physical interaction and being blindfolded in a living room does not provide this as prominently.
Keep it going Lex great interview!
I wouldn't want to be "tethered" to a couch and blindfolded the whole time, I'd rather be on a calm back porch in the afternoon/evening with some nice trees to look at. Wouldn't being surrounded by calming nature be more natural then a therapist's office? Or at least given the choice between the two.
Exactly. I’m never going to a clinic to trip.
in the 80s when i first took mushrooms it was very hard to find up to date info concerning psychedelics, we used to rely on old books from the sixties and seventies, and word of mouth....luckily where i live in Melbourne (oz) we have a reliable seasonal supply of potent mushrooms.....the most transformational experiences of my life ,im still fascinated by them , .over 35 years later. the way out..
I am an experienced user of shrooms.
Different strains are recognisingly different in experience and profoundness.
For me the most potent and profound are the tiny liberty caps that we have in the UK.
It is no coincidence that they are difficult to find and cannot be grown in a bag like other psyilocibe.
The myth that exists in the UK is that they cannot grow in untouched soil that is less than 300 years old.
Whether true or not the point I am trying to make is that the knowledge and spirit that exists in the experience depends on the knowledge and spirit the mycelium has absorbed.
Some of you Will get my point
My first mushroom trip was with liberty caps. We picked them ourselves after a month of research. I live in canada by the way. There was a farm field behind my highschool, and we searched it for a week until we came across a few patches of liberty caps where the cows where grazing.
This was when i was 14 year old freshman LOL
Untouched by what? 300 years since what?
@@bocelott Yeah it's some bullshit idiots say who know nothing about it
From the early 90s I wondered if our reabsorption into the earth, and other consciousness, are what gave rise to plant medicine... and, (unrelated), I'm sure I'm either reading previous text, intercommunication, or something Inbetween, that's the language of plant's presented in strange triangular hieroglyphics, when I low dose changa...
I had profound melancholy after each mushroom trip. It took about 2 days to get over.
Possibly Too little
This happens for some people at certain times. You may need to stop doing them for a while possibly. They can have interesting ways of letting us know we no longer need their presence in our lives at times.
Damn, I've always had the 100% opposite of that effect from shrooms. I've had shroom afterglows that lasted literally months after the trip. That was from quite large doses, fwiw.
I believe that the explorations of psychonauts are even more important to “space” travel than astronauts.
Honestly, there is no words to describe these experiences you speak about. True research on this topic can’t fully be done without experiencing it yourself. The extent of your research is the extent of the explanation you receive. Which cant be done fully.
Ahhh, the ol’ grasping of your buddy’s hand while tripping on shrooms. When I first tripped on an 8th of shrooms I was quite literally losing my mind, but when I felt the warm caress of my buddy’s hand I honestly felt so much more relaxed and calm and was able to kind of allow the experience to happen. Thanks, T.
Nothings better than the warm caress of the homies lips...HAND. I meant hand. Nevermind. What he said.
I'm actually kinda averse to physical contact when I'm tripping. I like to have my little bubble of space. Shit can get kinda confusing and weird when physical contact is pushed on me. I remember one time I smoked DMT and when it kicked in, my buddy who was trip-sitting me started like rubbing my back and hugging me and stuff like that, and I kinda wished he would just leave me alone for a few minutes. I know that sounds dickish, but idk, it's just my nature.
It’s very exciting that we’re rediscovering our relationship to these substances and the potential they possess to heal and even to reach new plateaus of the mind. They absolutely have the power to disrupt cultural norms including the ones which are harmful to us and the earth. However, we lost many years of progress before and could lose again if we do not take seriously and respect these substances. Let’s seek to create a STRONG culture around how we use them and understand them. ✌️
This sounds so amazing. I don't need to quit smoking but....ground control? So fun
This clip was an experience in its self. I want him to guide me lol
smoked cigs everyday for 5 yrs then had a powerful lsd experience and never touched them since. the cig literally turned into a worn out tar covered lung in my hand and straight away was done with them

😍😍 these research guys are trip nannies!!
First time I did shrooms with my buddies we ate a bit too much. After the laughing phase, We all got seperated in the same house. upon finding each friend I found the experience to be weirder and weirder. One was crying in his bed in a yoga pose, the other got locked outside of the house in tshirt and shorts, it was 32 degrees out. We eventually had to call the ambulance for the last guy because he couldn't handle the trip. 10/10 would shroom again.
lol a ambulance cant really do anything about shrooms
@@Doyka94 Where do ambulances go?

this comment made me laugh but I do hope the last person is ok… I’m planning on doing shrooms for the first time but more in a spiritual way. ❤
I'm so happy we are finally trying these new approaches to the human experience. I think we should not feel bad about having experiences. If we supposedly have this "greater" brain, we should experience what it can do.
Not everyone knows how to use it lol. Of course they don't like psycs, it would require intelligent thought. Same with P.E.D.s, they're too worthless to workout in the first place so the last thing they need is for us to make them look even more like trash.
Honestly when I quit smoking I just used the vape as it’s intended and it worked. Every few weeks I’d go down in nicotine until I was at 3mg...
Mushrooms are my favorite. I highly recommend their use. Go big!
I had too many crazy negative thoughts that felt like days worth of torture :/
Shrooms can get more "theraputic" than I want to get. It's a lot rougher than mescaline. In fact, no patio planting plan is ever complete without a lot of San Pedro relatives for the tall columnar effect that doubles every year.Pharmaceutical antidepressants sales would plunge if more people spent time in well planned patio gardening.
@@seanclements6206 maybe you would like LSD better?? i find it less thought expanding than mushrooms, but way more exhausting of an experience. Like carnival ride you are stuck on for 12+ hours
@@seanclements6206 As far as mescaline mis-perceptions go, there has been so little use compared to some of the other psychotropics, so any perception of it is going to be a projection and a mis-perception. Stigma? It has a bad reputation for being nauseating and crampy, but that is because people are usually referring to the Peyote experience. Peyote has about 17 alkaloids, one of those is mescaline. 9 don't do anything. 7 or so cause physiological symptoms, puking, tremors, pulse, sweats and such. Mix that with your mental experience and it can feel pretty uncomfortable.
The Trichocerus however only have about 7 alkaloids. One is mescaline and the other 8 are NOT physiologically acting. They do not stack any physical side effects on top of the psychological and spiritual intent. That's why they call San Pedro, "Spirit of the Sky". light and crisp compared to the other types... totally unique.
When making a tea though, the sheer bulk of it can get nauseating even with San Pedro and Peruvian Torch. When boiled down to a tar or tar dried, powdered and into the coffee, it's not noticeable.

We exist cause our mind is literally creating every single thing you see, everything you see you are creating nothing exists without you existing, you shape the universe and your reality.
Psychedelics are the domain of the forest - in the sense that judgement becomes superfluous. Love has its own reason, therefore, in the depths, the forest of our mind, we will travel blindly until we realize there either “is” or there “is not.”

The describing of the ineffable enters into a whole new ballgame where you'll find it's an an art in and of itself. That's why we get people like Alan Watts and Ram Dass earning lot 'sof love and praise, because they find ways to describe the ineffable.

I feel love and my thoughts are expanded. I have more heads pace.
Lex, you are brilliant and very in touch with the progression of Elon Musk’s views and Tesla’s path towards autonomy.
What are your thoughts on the repercussions that will take place if Tesla succeeds like it’s planned to do. If they release full self driving at a lower cost than ownership of a regular antonymous car, proceeding to take those billions of pure profit to build out more autonomous cars, what do you foresee the reaction of dealership workers, other car manufacturers, etc.. Have you ever considered the social paradigm shift of anger against the absolute success of Tesla, or do you feel that Tesla will foresee this and try to mitigate these possible riots and anger before they take place?
It would be an interesting topic on your podcast to talk about 😊
Have been mastering the art of this for some time now like McKenna said and am trying to curate the perfect time and place to eat them bc I feel like I’m normally too awake now sometimes for it
Thank you.
Anyone ever been on hallucinogens and really questioned the point of all the effort they put into their careers and whatever seemingly odd social constructs they adhere to? It all melts into this weird facade and I'm not sure which side is right...
Ill always make time for them, ive became a straight looney man for ALL mushrooms. I go hunt edible ones and psychy mushrooms as well. Theyre amazing things when you get to know them, especially the magic ones. :)
I'd appreciate a link to the study. A much-praised study on depression and psychedelics had significant iatrogenic effects that were obscured by only reporting the mean. Upwards of 20% felt worse.
I’m not familiar with the study, but I know that my only “bad” experiences with them after a couple dozen sessions were the times I was messing up in life and I knew it. The mushrooms wouldn’t let me not think about those things for ~4 hours. To those not accustomed, it may feel like you’re more depressed when you’re confronted with things being your one fault.
Edit: this isn’t to say that they didn’t have other problems associated with the trip. I know psychedelics aren’t for everyone.

Science never should have stopped studying these substances. They should be frontline therapies.
CZcams mushroom videos are very misleading. What they don't really point out is that the trip is decided by the user. I think a lot of people think you take them, and then blast off into some sort of introspective, out of body, experience,, where all life's questions are answered. What people don't realize is the people telling these tales are constantly looking into those things when not on mushrooms.
I've taken them about 15 times. Not once was I in another dimension, tapping into my brain and discovering answers to all life's questions.
Nope. I was tripping out at Universal Studios Halloween Haunt, talking to Chucky and running through the Area 51 Zombie Maze. Or laughing my ass off at Las Vegas New Years, watching the Treasure Island Pirate Show, and following a tiny man made out of Pooh, who my friend could also see. Or walking through Thousand Oaks Mall crying in laughter, before taking a call that turns out to be an over the phone interview for Adidas, not only getting the job, but getting promoted to a supervisor!
You get what you want out of them... But if you're trying to see smart stuff, and you're not smart, you'll most likely see the man made out of pooh
