This is from when Goku and Gohan got out of the room of spirit and time right before the Cell Games, and they were so proficient with SSJ1 that they could stay in the form indefinitely with no stamina drain. Its basically the final step right before unlocking Super Saiyan 2, a completely mastered Super Saiyan 1.
Random super late question: would this be the same version that fought Broly?
@@GeorgyQ Yes. Considering Gohan was also a Super Saiyan in movie 8, and Goku and him both had full control of their emotions in the form in the movie, rather than being completely angry (meaning the big eyed expressions the form never had until Goku and Gohan left the time room)..

Yes it is, his fight with cell in a fully mastered super saiyan state. Just more detailed ss1 hair. Like some other comments grade 2 vegeta and grade 3 trunks would be awesome since they are super buff so it makes more of an impact. Hell grade 3 goku with the saiyan armor feom the hyperbolic time chamber would be awesome, more impactful and a different gi

Yeah, it's super saiyan 1. Gonna go with Mastered Ultra Instinct. Personally don't mind there being so many Goku figures. Could use some effect parts though. Anyway, nice review, Anthony.

Really big thanks for mentioning how the skin tones match up with the other figures since I really wanted to put the SSJ head on my base Goku coming in.
I’m more wary of this release but I still might get this guy. Honestly I was excited about this figure’s announcement because I really wanted a non battle damaged SSJ Goku. There’s the older Figuarts but their age shows, and their aftermarket prices have been killer. But with this guy being at $40+shipping? That alone might make me overlook the figures issues because I don’t know if I’ll get a better option. This was a great review! Really helped inform my purchase.

It's full power SS1, Gohan and Goku mastered SS1 during the Cell Saga when they were in the time chamber. I personally like the faces, they're like Yamamuro's classic art style in Z when he was on the team as a regular animator.
For 35$, I think it isnt that bad, but still 35$ is still a lot.
Goku is the moneymaker of the brand. Sales of these many Goku figures help give us the more obscure characters like Lunch. I don't mind getting a lot of Goku just to get the other characters. One does not need to buy every release.

I would've given the figure a 5/10. It's still a Goku, but horribly finished and with too many qc issues.

They sure do sell a lot of Goku's but I think it's good they're catering to those who want to collect all the different forms.
At least they're not doing the same figure with colour swaps like "Goku in black gi, Goku in blue gi, Goku in green gi" Or the same figure with accessory variations "this one has the power pole, this one has bag of sensu beans" etc.
Yup super saiyan 3 is still my favorite, with second place going to the OG super saiyan. I feel like its influenced by the actual anime reveal of the forms. 3 and 1 were so hype they blew my little 9 year old mind at the time

Well it makes sense Goku being the main character and all, in addition to aesthetic changes representing levels of power being DBZ/S’s thing. And yeah it’s definitely better than McFarlane releasing 6 MK11 Spawns.
Feels like ppl in general is asking too much for a below $50 figure, I have him, and compared to the ones from Street Fighter (which doubles the price) they are, in fact, way superior. It's not perfect, of course not, but for it's price I think some are too harsh imo.
They're only sub $50 because 95% of it has been sold 15 times before.

It's cell saga SSJ after they went into the hyperbolic time chamber and the face looks fine.
SSJ4 Goku by far the best he looks the most unique and was downright brutal.
I'd love a grade 3 super saiyan goku in the saiyan armor when he was talking smack about the form to gohan, id be pretty unique

That's possible but it will be an exclusive event bullshit.
What doesn’t make sense to me is how you can call the articulation terrible, while this body is basically the exact same as every other 2.0 body Goku figure we’ve gotten before. Also, while this may not be the ideal ssj Goku for you, keep in mind that the only semi decent ssj Goku that’s been released in his og gi was waaaay back when with the 1.0 version! And nowadays, prices for that figure are nuts! So while there are some little issues and nit-picks with this figure, I think this it’s a perfect fit for a modern, cheap, and fun representation of ssj Goku!
They've made plenty of figures since the 2.0 Goku much with better articulation...

Completely agree on all fronts. The shoulders are already inexcusable in 2021 and the paintjob is uneven.
I have the very first Dragon Ball SHF and as outdated as it is, I think it nails the character much better. I also own the regular Goku 2.0 and I'm quite happy with it as well. It's a shame because SSJ2 Goku is my favorite version and with this blunder I'm not confident Bandai will release him using a 3.0 mold anytime soon.
Super saiyan 3 will always be my favorite goku form, the reveal of it was just so hype and the falconer score during the transformation still gives me goosebumps. Second would be ss1 goku in the yadrat outfit

For me it's between ssj and ultra instinct, I really like when Goku takes a fight seriously like on namek and the TOP.
I picked up 2 of these for the look of his gi. I have a very nicely made third party ssj2 head (they still haven't released an official one) with Halo that needed a body. I also picked up a bootleg ssj3 since it was super expensive and it's head was great but the body was garbage so I'm going to swap it to this.
Yeah mine has a loose leg aswell, its because there made in Vietnam and their QC is terrible. Also the same reason why Bardock has tight shoulders. Good review Anthony

Came to say the same thing too. I had the same issue with the left leg too, not too loose but will flop around when I shake the figure while the other leg is fine. Seems like this version of Goku production comes from Vietnam.

My bardock also had super tight shoulders, didn't realize this was the norm. A little WD-40 fixed it but it was annoying
I ordered 2 from Amazon and both are different with shading one has very light and the other is really heavy
Favorite form of ssj is 2. Only getting this figure for the head sculpt and the "unique" faces that kind of grew on me after seeing how goofy some of them look
I think that because he’s the protagonist, and has a lot of forms, they should keep the Goku releases relatively compact so they can be cheap. It’s a nice entry point, and also allows collectors to have a break from heavier spends, whether it be to pass bc they have Gokus already or just spending less.

Mine has a weak left leg too as well as being overly tight everywhere else. This figure was such a let down when I got it and the faces are so awkward. I believe it's because they straight up drew the lines on his forehead instead of subtle sculpting like vegeta for example and his chin seems a tad too small. Only good thing I had from it is next to super saiyan vegeta they look really fucking great together.
Its super ssaiyan 1, its Goku after the hyperbolic time chamber, when he decided that him and Gohan must stay as super saiyans all the time in order to make the transformation a natural thing, and so not waist a lot of energy whilr super saiyan.
They should have given us the look with casual clothes they both had in that little mini arch when they went searching for the dragonballs. This head fits perfectly for that!

The front of the clothes are supposed to be like that I think, like how in the anime the clothes always had darker shades every so often if its kind of a dark/actiony kinda scene. I always liked ascended Super Saiyan during the Cell Games though or Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan God/blue is okay though :P
SSJ2 and SSJ4 are my favorites. I personally don't care about anything that came out of Dragon Ball Super.

Dude id have to agree with ssj3 being my favorite. When i first saw that episode when goku goes ssj3 as a kid my mind was blown. It was such a cool looking upgrade

This full power version is based on his look in the cell saga after he trained with gohan in the hyperbolic time chamber. I think its called super Saiyan "grade 2", where grade 3 was only used by trunks when he buffed himself to hell trying to stop perfect cell. SSj2 has spikier hair and less bangs.
It's actually grade 4, grade 2 is the one Vegeta was using, which it's a little more buffed.
Grade 3 was indeed used by Trunks, that's much more buffed.
And grade 4 is what Goku and Gohan used, which is technically like mastered super Saiyan.
I believe it's grade 4. I'm pretty sure grade 2 is the one where they're more muscular like Super Vegeta-- like when Vegeta fought Cell in his semi-perfect form and then let him turn perfect. I think that was grade 2.
And then grade 3 would be the Super muscular one that Trunks turned into but had no speed. Cheers :-)

Either super saiyan 1 awakening(frieza saga) or super saiyan 4. GT has its problems but that super saiyan 4 design is awesome.
I dunno how they manage to get some figures perfect like Super Buu, the Ginyu Force, King Piccolo, Raditz and Broly... and yet when it comes to plain ol' Super Saiyan Goku... the MAIN CHARACTER... the entry figure for newcomers to the line.. and they just fuck it up. Should've been an easy home run. What were they thinking with those faces? They're so round and puffy looking. I like the smiling face but all the other ones look bad. It's such a clear step down from SSB Goku and Ultra Instinct Omen Goku. And why is the color on his blue shirt so DARK? They had it perfect on SS3 Goku. Sigh. And we're just stuck with this one until they try again in another ten years.
My favorite version of goku is super saiyan god, the red looks so good.
This is my first figure from dragon ball shfiguarts. And to be honest its good for a first one. Its cheap, its the basics, and it looks okay enough and doesn't look like a bootleg. This is a good first so you can ease into SHF figures.

Tbh, I still feel like the SDCC 2011 SSJ Goku represents Cell Games Saga Goku more than this figure, at least in terms of color scheme. I just wish that one came with more faces like the smiling face that we have on this new one. It’s just a shame that the new one’s faces look awkward, to me at least. Something about them look off.

There are too many Gokus coming out too fast. I don't mind that figures don't come with effects, but I wish effects were sold separately.

when you mention about 6 minutes in how fragile the neck joint is that's no joke! I tried putting the Ginyu Goku head (forget which figure it came with) on my Goku figure and it BROKE HIS NECK lol. I had to get a new figure- at least they were only $35. Now I have a Ginyu Goku that does not move and is for display purposes only lol
SS3 form is the best! Are you going to review the Fantastic Four retro wave? I think I'm going to pass those but would love to ear your opinion on them. As always, great review! I was also very disappointed with this figure.

My figure has the belt on reverse limiting the waist movement and some joints are really squeaky overal the figure is just ok

As you said, yes it is not a good release.. but the worst thing to me is the neck. It's too Fused Zamasu long. It makes this taller than other goku figurines.
This figure was disappointing to me, the hair sculpt is really good IMO.
The faces are really growing on me, but the quality of the plastic, makes it look shiny and it's poorly cut, and specially the ears look like crap, they don't have detail and they don't even apply the shading on the ears like in other figures

The reason it looks like it is because it is supposed to represent super saiyan goku from the cell games, if you see closely at some scenes you can see that the blue is a little off as well as the orange in his character, that explains the color of his gi in the figure

Trivia according to Akira toriyama super Saiyan hair color supposed to be black as well in super Saiyan mode but because of lack of black paint they decided to use yellow color

I got my goku for this Christmas and i was really excited since I was hunting him for a while but then I noticed his left leg was entirely loose, even his ankle joint on that leg was a bit popped out and made his foot really fucked up, at this point I’m just gonna force the ankle inwards and try to make the leg joint at the hip more secure and stiff

Idk tho, mine was fine. Paint was good, nothing was really lose (until my baby cousin pulled aggressively on the leg.) He wasn’t really shiny and had less of a shine on him than my 2.0 base form goku did.

With all these goku releases you would think they'd finally make a dedicated ss2 figure, with the spikier hair and maybe battle damage from when he fought majin vegeta.
I mean since we got a grade 4 super saiyan goku, there is no way we don't get a ss2 goku at some point to complete his forms. I hope they make ss1 grade 3 goku with the saiyan armor where he is jacked

tbh the only reasons i got this figure are for head swaps with my other Goku figures and belt swap with my 2.0 Super Saiyan Blue Goku figure. my favorite form of Goku are both forms of Ultra Instinct, but if were talking about Super Saiyan forms of Goku ill say my favorite is Super Saiyan Blue

This goku is mastered super saiyan (super saiyan grade 4) he faces off against perfect cell after goku and gohan were training in the hyperbolic time chamber.
They were trying to capture the likeness from the manga panels which I really like.
I also wish the Figure had a shaded hair detail along with the line Details,Well considering me being an OG fan of DBZ that’s probably why Lmao!
I managed to use this body as fodder for my Demoniacal fit Gohan.
And i can use the Goku head on my other figures.
My favorite is ss3 for now, but when ss4 hits, I will more than likely like it more.

this is the only figure i have in my collection that is facing away from me... i hate the plastic on it, the orange just feels so cheap, and the face just looks so washed out.

Now this is a "weird figure". Certainly if you are a DBZ fan, a Super Saiyan Goku I think is pretty necessary. The American intro ends with with. Being a Super Saiyan is a pretty big deal that really shifted the series from it's DB origin.
Of course it's not the first in this line. But then this line is really a budget friendly line. We've seen this exact body and accessories three times before. But it is budget friendly. You see this figures in Target. So different face places and hands(Mcfarlane is stingy with the only two they have on the body), I personally think it's more then enough for an individual figure. It's certainly seems redundant though if you've gotten the previously released figures and makes them seem lacking.
On my figure the painting on the pant's really isn't noticeable so I don't know if it's ymmv or I got less paint.
This budget line should have inserted other characters in between just so it's wasn't the same Goku body but repainted. I don't see them doing SSJ3. Maybe they'll do SSj2 but for me personally, I can't tell the difference when it comes to Goku. Some people talk about the spikes and everything but it looks exactly like the first one most of the time in fight scenes. DBS makes it seem extra pointless.
They are doing Frieza. But we should have gotten Vegeta in there. Maybe they might do Piccolo/Krillin and some others down the line but they've tapped the Goku well in terms of this general look.

How interesting...it feels like they're really milking the Goku bodies as much as they can with the 2.0 molds. The "cheaper" options are really kinda bad in this line, just so bare bones compared to just about every other line that does come with some accessory.
Missed opportunity to include a SSJ2 head
It's from the Cell Saga, so that doesn't make a ton of sense
@@duncanohoge I understand that, but if the box says "full power super saiyan Goku" that's obviously from the Cell Saga and the company knows that. So to them, it makes no sense to include the SS2 head.

No it's not ssj2,he's the mastered super saiyan in the end of cell saga,when he and Gohan try to live with the ssj transformation before Cell Games,that's why he has a happy face,he get used to the transformation to a point that he don't need to be fully mad to stay transformated.Compared to Super Vegeta and Trunks who fought Semi Perfect Cell,the transformation it's like a ssj 4.0 since he has the 3.0 power but none of his downsides.
