    My recent travel to Cancun was confusing. I thought the FMM was needed, it wasn't. I did receive a 180 day stay. A week later I crossed into Belize for eight days and when I returned, the agent asked how long my stay would be in Mexico and I received 14 days, which matched the date of departure back to the states. Therefore, if I wanted to extend my stay, well, it would have been a process.
    Excellent video, thanks!

    • @MixedinMexico
      @MixedinMexico  Před rokem

      Hi @RobboGsy it all depends on where you're coming from and flying to. If "ul" was a typo and you meant to type the "U.K," then you don't require a VISA for entry into Mexico; & the most you may need is an FMM, depending on the airport/vessel of entry. Most of the major international airports in Mexico have now eliminated the need for the physical FMM form; so if you are flying here, there's no need to fret! 😊 And even if your port of entry does require an FMM form, you will be provided with it when necessary.
      If "ul" was indeed NOT a typo and you do not possess a passport from the "UK", then you'll have to just jog my memory on where that might be located in the world, so i can better/further assist you.
      I hope that helps!

  • @WilliamAshleyOnline

    Hopefully this will simplify things for entry and exit for everyone. Needing to have the paper copy or losing the paper copy can be an issue. I've had documents stolen before and this resulted in a fee to leave Mexico as well as extra paperwork for me and the customs people. Note that having paperwork was being done during the pandemic and technically I think could be requested prior. It depends on what level of entry you get. I've had a wide degree of entries to Mexico everything from welcome to Mexico, refusals, near refusals, being told to come back with an updated passport because of the number of days left on it, to needing to return with paperwork I wasn't traveling with. I have been to Mexico quite a few times since 2008, including longer stays, student exchange, and even a pandemic overstay that was attempted to be dealt with through INM since I was in Mexico already. It gets confusing how the consulates, INM and customs all intermix and has me wonder every time I go into Mexico now if there will be issues on entry. However the FMM is more or less digital now on the government side since they just input the data into their computer and it is logged. I think they have more information in there on people who have travelled to Mexico. It would be nice to know what they were seeing on their end. I actually do want to do a winter trip to Mexico again this year its been a little over 16 months since my last trip, and my last trip if ever would have gotten me into trouble due to the pandemic related extended stay. Its scary because everyone and my translator are saying it is fine from the INM side of things but its always a little spooky wondering what customs will think the next time you go back depending on how it ended up getting logged into the electronic system. None the less I think there is an honest attempt to streamline legitimate tourism but it is true every story I have heard about people having issues at the border generally is people who travel cheaply. I think generally the main reason for being refused entry is if they don't think you will spend a certain amount per day. That said if you arrive with a return ticket and travel lodging and a reasonable amount of financial resource its not likely to be an issue. Overall I think the idea of these pilots is to digitize the whole process as paper documentation can cause a lot of extra processing and problems. As I do not have any specific political views for Mexico or these processes I can only hope that it all works out for people including myself. I am debating right now on travelling to Cancun as my port of entry or travelling to another latin american point and ending my trip by land and out of Cancun airport. I am curious if they will still collect the FMM on exit from Cancun if you didn't enter by air as they use to really want that portion returned to them on exit or you'd have to get it reissued in advance or with a fine on exit. None the less I've filled in the border persons section multiple times sort of by accident as some of them wanted me to fill out their section and others were like absolutely not, none the less, its digital now the FMM just isn't a paper now. Although I wonder if they have update the law requiring you to carry it or a copy on you at all times or if the passport will need to be carried or a copy of the passport. Not sure if people actually have ever gotten fined for that. Massively long post none the less hopefully everyone will continue to be able to enjoy the majesty of Mexico. I could write more on this but I think this covers the basic thoughts. Also there is a chance for clerical issues also for instance the days on the front and the back of the FMM could accidentally or intentionally be written as a different number this could lead to some confusion. None the less I think this is onyl better to not need to paper unless need to show it to police enforcing immigration issues is still on the books, but I think police likely or national gaurd will also have access to the digital system and it will be proof and forging the FMM wont be doable now.

But if it gives you any comfort, I honestly don't think it should be a problem; especially since your [the parents] passports have years of validity left. If you carry proof of accommodations and return tickets for everyone, that should be more than enough. I hope that helps!
      For added [potential] reassurance; I have had friends who came down to Mexico for a quick trip and had their passports (accidentally/unknowingly) expire while on a week's vacation. The custom's official never even mentioned the approaching expiration when they arrived. So you never know.

    I have a huge question.
    I am from the USA and my wife is from Mexico we got married in dicembre 2021 and I got my temporal residence card in March 2022.
    I’m 2023 a little before I had to pay for my 2nd year of residence I lost my residence card and due to me needing to leave due to a family emergency in the USA. I just figured I will figure it out later.
    I am now going to be going through the whole process again after asking INM which does not bother me. But I have heard that the new E-Ticket type visas are creating some huge problems for people getting their visas. I will be getting my residence through vínculo Familiar.
    I was wondering if you have any thoughts tips or what exactly should I do???

    • @MixedinMexico
      @MixedinMexico  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi James! Sorry to hear that! Glad you're handling it well. I'm assuming you are referring to the tickets generated by use of the new e-gates? It has been a hot topic lately. Please correct me if I'm wrong; as my response below is based on that assumption.
      If you are going to re-do the entire process all over again using the tramite (linked below), you shouldn't have a problem using the e-gates if you so desire to, as you will be changing from a tourist status to a resident anyway. [That is the tramite I used for my residency, being married to a Mexican. I will also link a video that enumerates my experience & process doing so below.]
      Video: czcams.com/video/eFmkGNYWEZ8/video.html
      Tramite: www.inm.gob.mx/mpublic/publico/inm-tramites.html?a=thgeGuQHx2k%3D&tr=JWVA3UxyeZM%3D&h_sdp00=giUnJ9XgtISVcdYJXduIGw%3D%3D&h_dsplp02=en
      However, if you first started the process at the Consulate and have a VISA sticker in your passport to next complete the process at the INM, then you will NOT want to use the e-gates; as you need to come in on a "canje" granted by the customs officials and the e-gates do not yet have that allowance. Using the e-gates will automatically make you come in as a tourist.
      I hope that helps!

      Hi Yasmin! You always have the option to go to a local INM office and handle the matter; but a quicker option is to check for a copy of your FMM online first. You can simply re-print a copy for your records. If you need assistance finding your digital FMM, here is a video I made a few weeks back on the subject; I hope it helps! czcams.com/video/eKv0SihCcGo/video.html

      Hi @jacklewis100 I just verified; you are indeed correct! I now only see "By Land" as an option to access the FMM form ahead of time. That is very new! Hi @KrystleJ The short answer is: No. If you are flying into Cancun, the cost of your -now electronic- FMM form [no matter the length of stay] is typically included in the cost of your flight. It is usually around $30USD. If you are driving to Cancun, you would just pay the $30 at the border for the physical FMM, since the trip exceeds 7 days. I hope this helps! Hi @dianamaldonado7291 Depending on which airport you arrive into, you may not need to fill out an FMM form at all; one may be generated electronically for you after clearing customs, upon arrival. Hi Alexis! That’s a great question! I don’t know if any of the borders have (as of yet) rid themselves of the FMM form; so it would be my guess that they would give you an FMM form at the border when you drive in (as well as potentially a temporary import permit for your vehicle) and you can bring that FMM form with you to Cancun when you fly in, in case they desire to see it, and return the bottom portion of it when you exit, wherever that may be from.

To verify that, you can refer to a previous video I made: czcams.com/video/PDClwnSBo6c/video.html After you confirm that, if you DO indeed need a VISA for entry into Mexico, the next step would then be to make a VISA appointment at your local/preferred Mexican Consulate. There is a ton that needs to happen before something like that can actually come to form. That will be politically fought over, and I highly doubt it will come to fruition. They are too late to the party. My understanding is that it was something they are thinking about creating for convenience and tracking rather than having it as a requirment. Mexico never even required a test to enter at the peak of the pandemic. Now all of the sudden post pandemic they will require a vaccine passport? Very unlikely at this point IMO.

      Oh. I see your concern now. Residency is not a requirement. It remains optional to every individual; no matter if they are married to a Mexican or not. Immigration (INM) may make the residency process “easier” if you are married to a Mexican, but they don’t make it necessary. I know several individuals who choose to remain tourists in Mexico although they are married to Mexican nationals. So it all just depends on your preference. I hope that helps! Hi Randy. If you are a Mexican citizen, acceptable forms of identification for travel within Mexico (via airplane) include: Passport, Voter ID/INE, Driver's license, Professional identification or your Consular registration certificate. If you are not a Mexican citizen you will need your foreign passport for travel within the country. Hope that’s helpful! Great question.

      I don’t have any experience using my U.S. driver’s license or passport card, as I generally always carry my passport book on me when I travel; so I can’t answer that inquiry with certainty. It is possible that some airlines in Mexico may allow for different forms of ID for foreigners; I would just check with your particular airline ahead of time to confirm what that require/allow so that there aren’t any surprises at the airport. Let us know how it goes though; it would be great to know if that is indeed still the case since the time you’ve heard it so.

      Hi @jocelynsavannah I wish I could answer that question with certainty, but that is beyond my ability. What every Consulate requires financially for individuals as well as families with dependents is different; and also what they may allow for [given the circumstances] may differ. My greatest piece of advice would be to reach out to your preferred Mexican Consulate (or the Consulate of your confirmed appointment) and see what their particular requirements are; both for paperwork and for financial solvency, given your particular set of circumstances. And if needed, shop around for a consulate that you can meet their financial requirements; and make an appointment at that specific office. I hope that proves helpful! We're rooting for you two!!

Maybe the airline official was ignorant of those allowances. May I ask if you showed her your permanent resident visa for Canada and/or the proof of the allowance from Mexico; and if so, what he/she said after seeing such? Also, were you leaving from Canada, and have you since resolved the matter? Thank you for sharing your experience; I'm sure this isn't the first occurrence of this and sadly may not be the last.
