- Hi everyone, it's Destiny. I recently just finished my 1st semester of sonography school and decided to do a video on what you can expect + tips/advice. I hope you all enjoy the video and don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe :)

I just finished my 1st week of my 1st semester in DMS school. I am sooo overwhelmed already. I was NOT expecting the work load and I am also a single mother of 2 teenagers so I am learning how to balance my student life and my home life. Thank you soo much for this info!
Hi how are you doing, I hope you hung in there
How's it going?
Omg you sound like me. I start in August with 2 kids under 3. I'm nervous
update?
How has it gone so far?
Hey Destiny1 thank you for sharing. It feels so real.
Great video! Thank you for sharing this with us 🥰
Thank you for your honesty on the breakdowns, need to hear the truth. But you pushed thru!
Thank you destiny for the information, I really appreciate, please keep give us information about being a Sonography.
Realest video I've seen so far about this, thank you xx
Ive been really contemplating going all in or going back to my job and this helped me make my choice thanks !
This just makes me so thankful to have a lot of healthcare experience going in. I'm going to be busy learning a ton of new information and trying to apply new concepts, thank God I already know how to work one on one with patients and perform procedures professionally and independently. I wouldn't have been able to handle being anxious about both if I went for this right out of highschool, personally
So helpful,great video.Thanks a lot👏🏾
This has been soooo helpful!! “Scan as much as you can” I’m taking this word of advice with me. I’ve been contemplating joining a program but had no idea what to expect. This gives me a realistic lens into what to expect. Thank you for sharing your experiences ❤
I’m starting my externship soon and must say the course-work wasn’t easy, but worth it. I remain resilient and retained a 3.5 GPA. it can be draining due to the level of contraction needed to carefully analyze cardiac abnormalities. BUT, It is a rewarding career field.
I’m about to start and had noooo clue what to expect at all, THANK YOU. this definitely helped
How is it going
Great (REAL) info. Thanks for sharing!
So helpful! Thank you!
I start next month!!!! I will come back to this video after the first semester😢❤. You have some really useful tips that i really needed to hear, thank youuu for taking your time to share your experience!
how was it!!
Thank you for allbrhe information that you shared..gonna prepare myself to it😅.
Thank you for sharing this. The information was helpful, especially the books, and how long it took you to get into the groove of studying. Wondering how this program compares with nursing.
Thanks! I’m starting school in the fall 😁
Good luck ! You got this :)
Hey! Nice video. Very authentic. Thanks for sharing
thank u for this!! i recently finished my ultrasound program prereqs and i have my interview late jan/early feb. i find out if i get it by march/april 😬🤞🏻
good luck!!! you got this :)
Good luck!
How’d it go !
You Got that! I just know you did!
how did you do? 💕
I got accepted into a program, and still not too sure if I wanna do it. I'll have to work as well, and thank you for your honesty in this video!
8 months later , HOW U DOIN ? did u do ittt ?
@@sashatheodore7876 omg so when I posted this I didn’t realize I got accepted into a program where my work pay for everything but I still needed the prerequisites for it (I just gave up on it) but now I got accepted to a university with hopes of starting the program fall 2024. I plan on taking the prerequisites there, and there’s only 3 programs in MN so I decided to go for it there instead!
It’s been a rough few months debating if I want to pursue it or now but I’m now positive I do! I was looking into a X-ray tech but I would’ve had to wait another year for that.
@@moxeevig u didnt give up after all ! that program didnt work for u & now u go to a school where u can do your prerequisites & the program at all in oneee. IM HAPPY FOR UUU ! i hope all goes well for u & keep yo head up ma , u got thisss !
@@sashatheodore7876 thank you 💗 nervous and excited but I'm ready for the next step of my life!
Hey, checking in to see how things went. My biggest thing stopping me is not being able to work possibly.
Hi! What sonography school do you attend? I'm hoping to get into a sonography program next year.
Thanks so much
“I have never cried about school”
Me an IB student having a mental break down everyday 😃
❤
Going to start in January.
Thanks for the insides, which degree are you doing? Which college are you attending?
Did you already get an associate? For example I’m getting my associates in science in December did you do the associates in applied science then go to four year?
Hey destiny I just started my program for echo. I am 3 weeks in and had my first comp the other day. I fail it and now I am feeling really discouraged I know all the measurements and views I had to get… my imaging was so dark and my teacher did not know what she was looking at because of that. This my my 3 week first semester and have not went to clinicals yet this is lab time in the classroom. Do you have any words of encouragement to help me because I’m feeling like I can’t do this I’m having a nervous breakdown after that competency.
Hi jay and Dai I’m so sorry to hear that ! Being in ultrasound school has taught me that there is gonna be a lot of ups and downs . Ive failed scan assessment/comps before , but I try not to let it discourage me ( even if it does , i allow myself to be upset for a little bit , but then i just tell myself that i can’t let that grade define me as a student )because I know there will be other opportunities for me to improve and get it right the next time . You got this ! Just remember to always keep your head up :)
I start ECHO next month. How's your program going now?
Which school do you attend and is there a scholarship program for sonography, if no can you recommend some fully funded scholarship universities for me. Thanks
Pre reqs aren't really apart of the program right? Do you get accepted after you do pre reqs??
I start in July… I understand it is a lot of information but would you say it is difficult to understand? Or mostly memorizing?
which school your going am looking to enrolle, in dms program cant find right school , any helkp would be highy apreciated
Should we have to give nclex at last . I mean after graduation
The machine gives u the measurements right?
I'm starting from the very beginning this fall. With pre reqs. Do you think I can work full time while taking my pre reqs online? I know once I get to clinicals it'll be more hectic
I am starting from the beginning in the fall as well. I'm going to try to work full time in the fall and spring semester as I only need a few gen eds. Summer is when lab starts so we will see how much I can actually work at that point. Good luck to you!
Which school do you take your classes? Are they online classes ?
How do you balance working and school at the same time?
I worked a lot over the summer and during the semester I work on the weekends
If you get your ARDMS do you need to get the AART?
Can you work full time and manage this as a degree? I’m really trying but I work at the post office and literallly work every day
It would be very challenging bc clinicals are usually from 8-4 and you have to take time to study/do homework
Need advice, old guy going back to school, not shy! My only academic concern is Physics! Never took it in high school and I was pathetic in basic algebra 2.0 student way back, hate alg! Is physics the only math component? Is it something I can pass with help cause I am NOT a math guy at all but I want this program (AA associates) any input? My wife was just diagnosed with stage four cancer and my work history in hotel/hospitality will not pay me enough to raise our three boys if and or when she passes away. That is my motivation,.
hi she stated in another comment that there is barely any math but you have a little it physics but it’s nothing. if you are really struggling with it ask for help. i hope this helps sorry about what your wife god bless you both 💕
When you pointed to the right kidney I swear I saw a jelly bean. The liver looked like mush and the diaphragm looked like a smudge.
Any tips of how to pass physics ? I’m struggling so bad 😭😭
Was the intro to sonography class (the one before the prereq) free?
unfortunately no :/
You are beautiful in and out
Hi, may I ask what program you are in? Accelerated associates or bachelors?
bachelors
Hi, can you pls let me know how much maths is involved when it comes down to studying sonography.
It’s barley any math . You may have a little in physics but it’s literally nothing .
I was thinking the same thing cause girl math isn’t my strong suite 😭😭
I been scared of this too , math is not my strong suite either and if I’m honest I can only do the basics lol my day to day math .
@@paigesmith2966 me too I’m terrified of math lol I avoid it at all cost
Do you recommend to study 1st year online ?
Would you recommend starting to study the understanding ultrasound physics before I actually begin the program? So that it’s not as stressful hopefully?
It wouldn’t hurt to take a peek at it before the program starts . I wouldn’t say that it’s hard , it’s just you have to take the time to make sure you understand it .
Damn
I’m considering going into sonography school but I work full time also and I’m worried about trying to do both. Does anyone have any insight into what that would look like or if it’s possible?
This is my biggest issue I’m looking into as well and no one seems to have solid answers🥲either living with parents for free or spouse support, and neither would be an option for me
@@ALAgee29 I’ve been touring schools and talking to financial advisors and it seems loans, grants and scholarships are the only way. I don’t think it’s going to be possible for me to work at all past the first 6 months (prereqs) sadly.
@@Bethanybbyy I’ve been told the same! Going to have to take loans grants and hopefully scholarships and keep a part time job to get me through when the time comes.. best of luck to you!
Hi there. I just finished my full-time fast track pre-reqs for the program and I worked 2 full time jobs at the time. My day job was work from home so that def helped bc I wasn't as monitored so I was able to study a little. Once I got off of my night job at like midnight, I'd go home and study until 2 or 3 in the morning and have to be up at 630 to do it all over again. Oh and I have 2 teenagers and an out of state boyfriend lol. You have to be extremely dedicated and organized. I scheduled when I ate, slept, cried, took calls and everything. It is hard. I'm scared to start the cardiac sonographer program based on this video lol. I have to quit 1 of my jobs bc I know I can't do both and school anymore
It is necessary for sonography student to take science in 12th? i am an art student.
No… not necessarily. You could possibly take anatomy just to familiarize yourself with things , but when you start your pre reqs for a sonography program, anatomy is a required course that you will have to take .
@@dangggdestiny Thank you for Information
I’m What state and school you attend?
i really wanna become a sonographer, but at the same time i feel like i'm not smart enough :(
When I was thinking about being one , I thought the same thing too . You’d be surprised at how much you actually know ! I’m almost done with my program and I still feel like I’m not smart enough at times .I say still give it a shot ! You never know what you can be capable of :)
@@dangggdestiny thank you so much, that's very reassuring! :)
I been feeling the same way , I’ve been looking to go back to school and when I came across DMS I thought that would be something I’d be interested in doing . Then I started to have a lot anxiety and thinking I might not be smart enough either . I took A&P in high school I know for a fact that class is hard and does take a lot of studying and I’m feeling like I have bad memory , I think too much 😩. This video was very helpful , and informative but even listening to Destiny explain everything that would be expected got me questioning if I should do it . I have an information session this coming Tuesday and I’m getting really nervous . I currently work as an nurse aide and I’m completely burnt out , I do want change . Maybe I need to just calm the voices in my head lol and take risk and trust that GOD will see me through it . Guess I’ll make a decision after my info session or give it about a week after going .
@@paigesmith2966 aw, i hope you find what's best for you. i completely understand how you feel! there's nothing wrong with trying out the info session and seeing if it's something you'd like to continue. i actually got accepted to a sonography program and i start in january! i'm so nervous and afraid to fall behind. but i guess that just means i'll need to put in extra work...
@@veanne Thank you so much I appreciate that . Congrats to you that’s awesome , I wish you much success on your journey and that’s exactly what that means , GOD didn’t promise the road would be easy but with faith & hard work , you got this 💪🏾! Many blessing to you ‼️🙌🏾🥰
which sonography college did you go to? do they have waiting list?
I go to one in Virginia
@@dangggdestiny Could i ask for the name of the college in Virginia? thank you!
Hi
Did you study only from the books you were given? or did you study from different resources that your school didn't provide? I'm afraid I'm gonna come across a question that was not from the books given like nursing style questions. Also, were you assigned a partner to scan with, or did you choose among yourselves, or are students encourage to switch it up ?
I studied from the books that my program told us to get . Most of the lectures/PowerPoints from class came from the book ( not sure if every program does that ), but I mainly studied PowerPoints and if I needed more clarification on something I went to the text book . For labs , we aren’t assigned partners , however I tried to work with all my classmates because for our scan assessments/exams , we’d have to scan a classmate at random . Hope this helps
@@dangggdestiny yes very helpful thank you!
Can I work full time and do this program?
It would be very challenging just because you have to put in hours of studying and clinicals are all day ( 8 hrs)
Did you have a job while in your first semester?
I did
I hope to start at CBD college in april 2024. Which program are you enrolled at ?
Hey I’m thinking of enrolling in April 2025! How is it going for you so far ? Does CBD use the same books at this CZcamsr?
@LoliDawn it's going well. Passed module 1 with all A's. Don't know your situation with finances , but I had to quit working as a telemetry tech. Mine was full time and wasn't able to offer anything else. You have 5 classes in total. General Ed and medical terminology.
Now in Mod 2, we are using the green book. Maybe they will add the other one later, don't know. It's very challenging and amount of hrs needs to be pretty great in order to keep up with passing all courses.
Brush up on general physics and Anatomy, if you want to succeed. 11 wk courses are rigorous. Best of luck, don't hesitate to reach out.
@@marianak742 wow you’re amazing! I plan on studying my self before the courses in 2025 so I can be ahead and not struggle as much, I was wondering if you could tell me the titles + edition + author of the books (and if they have work books too) you use for module 1, I would appreciate it very much, Im very passionate about sonography and want to succeed
@LoliDawn all of the books we used to study were from online library only. I'm not sure if I can access our mod 1 info as of rt now. I'll see and let you know.
Is it really hard to get into a program? My prerequisites are all about C B average
I would say it is very competitive. Most programs want you to have mainly A’s
Can you do your clinical on Saturday and Sunday ?
I did clinicals only during the week for my program
@@dangggdestiny than you , i have a kid and my only available time is Saturday and Sunday
How many classes do you take each semester
On average 4-5 ( some of my classes weren’t all ultrasound related though , but most were )
@@dangggdestiny what classes were they
Wait how long it is 2 or 3 years ?
1-1.5 year for pre reqs . 2 years in sonography school . It just depends on the school
