- One hundred years of naval aviation, from wobbly gliders and the first shipboard landing in 1911, to modern supersonic jets and unmanned aerial vehicles. The film follows young men and women earning their wings by learning to take off and land a supersonic aircraft on the deck of an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean. This film explores how naval aviation has changed the face of war.

I’ll never forget going on a Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Independence going from Norfolk to NYC in 1984. This was when Lady Liberty was getting refinished and painted. A live broadcast was filmed on the flight deck and Ray Charles, Kenny Rogers, and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders performed for us! But, on the way to Fleet Week in New York, the flight operations we got to watch on the flight deck was awesome! Fly Navy! ⚓️🇺🇸
Swiss army had these beautiful Tiger fighters....
I visited the USS MIDWAY Museum, that is amazing, what machines can float an Fly , it is just incredible, as a European guy, one of my lifetime goal’s was more than achieved, i could even sit in a F-14 Cockpit, that was nice too, but bit spooky, not much room for the guys
I did the reverse trip (NYC to Norfolk) on USS America a few years later on a tiger cruise. It was a great experience and something I'm really glad the US Navy did. I was very young at the time, around 7 years old, so the genuinely massive ship seemed utterly gargantuan.
I was stationed in the very first f-18 hornet squadron on the the east coast at NAS Cecil Field fla VFA-131 Wildcats 1984/1988 airlants first and finest , Was also the first f-18 to see combat in Libya in 1986 aboard the USS Coral Sea CV-43 !
Truly enjoyed this look back over the lifetime of naval aviation. I flew on and off carriers for many years in the EA-6B Prowler, culminating in command of one of these squadrons in the mid 90s. Perhaps it was due to length of the film, but IMHO it was a terrible oversight to omit Naval Aviation contributions to Desert Storm. Four aircraft carriers operating from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Has there been such a concentration of carrier aviation since in the modern age? This is where an entire new generation of combat proven aviators were first developed. As a Strike U instructor told me on the second night of the war, "you guys are now the experts in strike warfare". We were the generation that got re-acquainted with Green Ink. Naval Aviation has been waiting on UCAVs since the early 80s, and bless those who have, and are fighting for them. They may be a someday wingman, to a manned flight lead. Generations of jets pilots are yet to come...
The Last Fighter Pilot has Not been Born.
Nope, I believe the last (real in-the-cockpit) fighter pilot has, most likely, already been born. In other words, offensive-weapons-fit UAVs (drones) will absolutely rule the air. A change for the worse, I'm afraid.
I sincerely Thank the channel
"History & Warfare Now" for a very good presentation of Aviation history. I am a pilot too. Helicopter is my qualification. Afghanistan is my first combat action. I need to say a lot, but no, I can't, I'm sorry... Thank you
Correction: the first example of “the next super-weapon” (@35mins) was the British carrier launched surprise attack and destruction of the Italian fleet while at anchor at Taranto 11 November 1940.
I attended the 100 year celebration at North Island A day I will never forget!
Really really well done video/documentary. Thoroughly enjoyed this and especially considering Naval Aviation/Aviation in general has never really been of interest to me.
I was onboard USS Ranger CV-61 87/90 Cold War vet nothing like the old gals!!
You Naval Aviators Are An Incredible Breed of Warrior.
most people think AOA is Amazon Prime...the best combat aviators respect their maintainers, without them the only sortie will be DCM
35:00 - Confirmatiion of the destructive power of aircraft was first demonstrated in WW2 not by the Japanese at Pearl but the Brits attacking the Italian fleet at Taranto.
1:12:43 - The Brits came up with the steam catapult.....AND the Mirror Landing System AND the Angled Flight Deck.
No mention of Gul f Of Sidra incidents …{ Surprising}
Go a Power ...fight..
Very interesting history. Loved how the female cadet showed the boys how it’s done, landing it first pass 😅
I've never seen LT JG written as LT JR GRD
The nuggets are like…Oh no, I gotta land back on the carrier now ? Lol…just kiddin’
- I’m envious because I made a huge mistake and could’ve easily chose flight school as a career.
Great film but truly needs a better description
Hey,Maclusky identificated Arashi as ''light cruiser''.
there will always be a human in the cockpit
Hornets lost to Rafale M in Indian naval Air wing purchase race.
For those biplanes in the late 1900’s to early 1920’s to carry a one ton bomb was an engineering marvel. I mean those engines were not that advanced yet.
An even more amazing marvel was the invention of the ramjet by René Lorin in 1908 when airplanes were still made of wood and canvas. The same goes in for his invention of jet propulsion.
❤❤❤😮😮😮🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nice video! Those things looks cool on the screen but belive me it is not cool on the sky above your city....I wish you to never have that expirience.

Russia has the best plane in the world
After Swedens Saab Gripen 😂
If you believe the propaganda
Which plane is that? You can't be referring to the felon. The Raptor matches it in maneuverability, has far superior stealth characteristics and vastly superior weapon systems. In actual air to air combat, the Raptor is STILL head and shoulders above every other fighter, decades after entering service.
I came in for a crash landing🛬 at the "Landing Strip" strip club.👠 I got drunk tripped and crashed into a table with my face. 🚑😩⚕ 😃Commerce City CO The Landing Strip
