      Agreed, everyone and their mother has heard of danganronpa, but far and few have heard of zero escape. It's ironic, Kodaka makes his claim to fame off of waifus and insane storytelling, while Uchi plots out intricate stories and deep characters and has to fight tooth and nail just to finish his series.

    I love Danganronpa for its style, it's characters and it's game play. It just oozes charm and coolness that really cannot be matched by Zero Escape. But Zero Escape, my God. The story, the themes, the complex web of plot twist after plot twist. It's a game that keeps you on your toes purely through its writing alone because of how goddamn amazing Uchikoshi is. Nothing seems like an asspull. Everything is hinted, explained and shoved down your throat whether you want to believe or not. kuroryuken - I actually went the other way around, starting with VLR and 999, discovering Danganronpa afterwards. Both franchises are good, but I love Uchikoshi's writing style; Zero Escape just has this more realistic feel to it in my opinion. :3
      I've played ZTD (got it on the day of release); it wasn't as good as VLR but I still liked it a lot. As for V3, I don't think the localisation is finished - correct me if I'm wrong - and since I don't own any Sony consoles I'm waiting for the Steam release.

      Same as the guy above me, I discovered DR after ZE. Granted I wish I had gone the other way around, because I went into DR expecting the same level of story telling and mystery as ZE and was so frustrated with the motives behind the first game I almost quit then and there. To this day I acknowledge that DRs plot is ridiculous, but damnit if there isn't something about it that has me craving more.

    A crossover between the two of them is inevitable and lord what I wouldn't give to see them plot out the story together
    Kodaka: "I want to kill this character"
    Uchi: "I want to add a branch to allow you to save them"
    Kodaka: "NO! That's my character and I want them to stay dead!"
    Uchi: "Let me save them! Or else I'll merge the Zero Escape and Danganronpa universes together. My characters will shift back before the apocalypse and prevent the deaths of all your characters!"
    Kodaka: "Then I'll just have Junko trap them all in a killing game before they can do that!"
    Edit: Man this comment aged well. A crossover might happen eventually, but now we have these two psychopaths making videogames together in their own startup. Truly the best timeline, this is the one god didn't abandon and blessed everyone.

      @@fernandosaker3667 Oh? First I've heard. I'm assuming this is the collab project between them and Chunsoft. The iron is certainly hot. There's new DR game coming out in December and the sequel to AI comes out in February. Clearly they're still working with them at some capacity.

    • @fernandosaker3667
      @fernandosaker3667 Před 2 lety

      @@jordanharrelson8500 There's an interview with both of them published some years ago in Gematsu where they talk about their projects (including the recent World's End Club), and they mention this title (though Gematsu refers to it as "Limit X Despair" - but "Limit" is also a reference to the Japanese name of the Zero Escape series).
      It doesn't seem to be an actual crossover, as the two illustrations revealed for this project (Gematsu only shows one of them; the second art was shown in Too Kyo Games' Twitter account) only show new characters; instead, maybe it will combine elements from both series (like Danganronpa's Free Time events, investigations and trials, and Zero Escape's escape-the-room puzzles and decisions that lead to branching timelines). Which would still be awesome, in my opinion.

    • @jordanharrelson8500
      @jordanharrelson8500 Před 2 lety +1

      @@fernandosaker3667 Yeah I read a famitsu were they were talking about this. They way they put it was that project and the chunsoft one were games fans expected from them. They created them purposefully because both of their fanbases expected something like that from them since the companies inception. Death come true and Death march were experiments. So yeah, limitxdespair seems to be the unholy crossover game between two madmen we've all been waiting for.

    • @fernandosaker3667
      @fernandosaker3667 Před 5 měsíci

      @ZalkovaYes, I know; in my second answer, I pointed out that this game is likely a crossover between the concepts or mechanics of the franchises (that is, for example, combining DR's investigation mechanics with ZE's branching timelines) instead of an actual crossover with characters from both series.
      Nevertheless, whatever crazy ideas Kodaka and Uchikoshi bring to the table this time, I'm sure it will be an amazing game, don't you agree?

    Make no mistake, I love Danganronpa to the moon and back but I find Zero Escape a lot more intriguing, with its countless branching story paths and the way it's worked not only into the gameplay but into the overarching story as well. Danganronpa has a lot of unused potential in this regard. In V3 it is possible to give false statements during class trials but it never ends up affecting the story. I mean at the very least they could make a fully flashed out bad ending where, as a result of your lie, everyone ends up voting for the wrong person and gets executed while the blackened gets away with their crime. Or imagine how amazing it would be if you ended up with completely different murder cases depending on the actions you take during free time or things you say while progressing your friendships with the different characters. Kinda like how the story plays out differently depending on your door choice in Zero Escape. I hope they take the Danganronpa series further in this direction in the future.

But I much pretty the writing of zero escape not just due to the well written plot and characters, but because these characters are grounded in reality, they're believable each with individual goal and motivations. Whereas in Danganrompa everyone is an outrageous caricature that you would never believe exists.

    Both are great series...Danganronpa is fantastic when it comes to make characters feel alive, and the murder cases are awesome... on the other hand, the background, the story itself, is not that good. I think Zero Escape is the opposite, that's why I prefer Uchikoshi's games. I would love to see a new game with Uchi writing the plot and Kodaka the characters.
    BTW: Kodaka pwned poor Uchi in the courtroom XD

    Kodaka-san seems pretty insistent on hating on the jerkass Zero Escape characters. Perhaps, and this is just a theory, it's because he sees himself in them, js. =P

      And if we are to follow your theory, Uchi made those characters because he can relate to them

    Between the two games my fav is still Zero Escape, mostly cause the story is compelling but not only that I don't have to read everything because in the first game it has amazing voice actors though the second one that I'm on now has some voice acting sadly not as much but helps me out a lot. Also I found myself not knowing what to do after a long time while playing Dongonrompa

    The zero escape game guy likes to do things teltale style by giving multiple endings. Which is both good and bad. Good because you got different choices and it's worth your money as you get to play more but bad because it does get a little boring playing the same thing.

    Personally Zero Escape is miles ahead of Dangonronpa. The beginning of each dangonronpa is the same, writing is at time awful and plot reveals of the ending in each games are just so bad.
    But, it's high schoolers in revelaing dresses that caters towards it demographic. Its a shame that Zero escape would cater to telltale's more serious audience but because of it VN style, it doesn't translate to that audience.
