Yeah, while it was the original intention of the series.. Maxis did a great job balancing the dollhouse and life sim idea to the point where you could just let things confidently run its course with not much of your intervention! Its the reason why I managed to clock in SO much hours in the Sims 3, just letting things be and getting surprised with how things run. Imo the problem is The Sims 4 was an unfinished game at the release, and it still is to this date, almost 8 years later. Being able to patch stuff in later has made the developers lazy, as they have no real deadlines to work towards. And then they proceed to make a big deal out of stuff like pools, ghosts and family trees, being free updates, but they should have been in the base game to begin with…

Man, remember even the stuff you'd get with skills in TS3? In TS4 you level your skills to 10, and then what? Nothing. In TS3 you had all those little sub-goals that went along with skills that also gave you rewards. After cooking 75 meals you'll always cook faster. Befriend 20 Sims and your social will never decay with them. And the opportunities that would pop up. Like if you got your gardening up high enough, you could learn to plant hot dogs. Or if your guitar was high enough, you'd randomly get a call to come play a gig and get paid. Things that made it feel worth it to raise the skills. In TS4 I raised my painting skill, so now I can make different kinds of paintings? That's it?

Many of them buy packs or get early access and promote these game packs on their channels, even if it's a negative review. Not to call anyone out but the number of times I've seen CZcamsrs say "yes this pack is garbage but here are some fun features I do like" just motivates the audience to buy more packs. My gaming style is actually very close to what you describe as making up stories in my mind, and the built-in storyline aspect never bothered me as much. However, even for someone who plays like me, I feel like ts4 is so empty and boring. It's full of promises that have never been developed to their fullest potential. Whenever I play, I get super tired super quick. Whims make no sense, emotions make no sense, townies with awful randomly generated outfits make no sense. My disgust with EA hit its peak with Journey to Batuu. I caved and bought Paranormal stuff, but ever since (January 2021) I haven't bought any content, and I'm not planning to anymore, every pack seems to bring only more bugs.
The game is not only shallow, it's broken, and EA are only churning out more content for money and barely fixing any problems (gardening has been broken for years, for Pete's sake).
I started playing when the first Sims game came out, and Sims 4 is the most soulless and cash-grabby of them all.

It was meant to be a strictly multiplayer online sims game but after poor performance and Sims City failure they scratched the idea… mid-development… and now we have an unfinished hybrid game. @aggepakke7763 Před 2 lety +12

Honestly, the Sims 2 was full of emotions!
The needs and aspiration bars were separate, so a Sim could have all their needs fulfilled but still be deeply unhappy. The wants would also somewhat depend on the mood. When a sim was raising a stat or working on a hobby, their wants would reflect that (depending on the personality of the sim), same if they were getting romantic with another sim. Even the animations would sometimes change slightly depending on their mood.
Yeah, they might not have had explicit emotions like in the Sims 4, but their personalities, wants, fears, aspirations and mood definitely played a part in giving them life.

Also the removal of MEMORIES! In Sims 2 you could see the memories of the sims, so you had a record of what happened to them during their lives. The journal/notebook is not a good replacement for that. And they also removed the ability to see who your sim is on the phone with. In Sims 2 you'd see the caller in a bubble of your sim's head, and in the relationship panel the caller would be moved to the front. Now I have no idea who my sims are talking to so I have no idea if I want to cancel the action or let it ride.

Example 2: When I bought Snowy Escape, I had already owned Seasons and I was disappointed when I couldn't make my Sim Kids in Newcrest go sledding in their own backyard when winter came. TS4 is the only Sims game I can run without constant freezing and lag, so it's got that going for it. I just shove it full of mods and that fills the gaps, but the fact that I felt the immediate need to download mods vs when I played TS3 and only started using them years after I began (and even then only to alter existing features like how full prey makes cats and how many Sims per household) really shows how lacking TS4 is. If I could play TS3 without lag, I probably would've never bought TS4.
However, there are so many amazing tools (mod constructor, sims 4 studio, etc) that make it easier to create content for ts4. I'm sure there's stuff for ts3 too, but I never found it when I started looking for mods so I never had the opportunity to try it before I moved on. Sims 4 gave us multi-tasking.... LOL. But jokes aside, multi-tasking on sims 4 is something that I cant live without it anymore. Playing back Sims 3 I realized how important is to allow Sims to do more than 1 thing at the same time. Talking and watching TV? Not on Sims 3, hon'. For that reason, Sims 4 has a more fluid gameplay than the other games from the franchise. Last note, I do hope Sims 5 allow our Sims to do a bunch of stuff at the same time, not only talking or listening to music xD

It's really sad that I and others have to rely on modders to make personalities matter

Sure, the game looks pretty mushy and it can lag a lot, but the game is so much fun. I'm so glad my new pc can run Sims 3 well, because after a Steam sale, I got all the other packs and tried out Island Paradise. It surprisingly runs really smooth and I love the world a lot! Every once and a while I go back to Sims 4 and while there are things I like... it can get boring so quickly. Meanwhile with the Sims 3, I can play it for 5 to 10 hours straight. Sims 4 has a lot of great sides, but it has really lost its potential

i was too young to be into the other sims games when they came out. i watched one or two sims 3 lets plays a couple of months before ts4 released and i was excited abt the new game. so i didnt pay much mind to ts3 anymore and i barley knew about it when i stopped caring.
i found myself not watching any ts4 lets plays and only watching cas cc videos. i bought ts4 in 2017 and was disappointed. the base game clothes/makeup/hair was ugly and limited. the gameplay sucked and i stopped playing mere hours after buying it. but since i was young, i didn't remember ts3 much and i thought "obviously the newest one is the best, so the others must suck too".
around 6 months ago i was binging a ytbr i watched as a kid and decided to rewatch her sims 3 videos, and i was hooked. though i didnt feel entertained from the videos in particular, i loved the gameplay. this sent me full sims crazy lol. seeing the kind of game i wanted the sims 4 to be actually existed brought so much joy. i then binged every The Sims Lore video and every ts2 v. 3 v. 4 video by PleasantSims. and thats what made me buy ts3, i now have 6 packs and around 320 hrs on it. trying to get my hands onto the full sims 2 game.
my cousin (24) was a huge fan of ts3 when it released. my obsession reignited hers and she recently rebought the entirety of ts3. the way she describes the excitement she had for pack releases makes me envious lol.
people are obsessed with the sims franchise, not the sims 4. most players have been long time fans since 1, 2, or 3 and the nostalgia for the great game they once had is what drives them. its kind of weird and almost ?desperate? people love the franchise so much they willingly and knowingly get scammed but don't care. they actively protest against EA while licking their boots. its definitely odd to say the least.

To add on to your point about missing whims, another thing that's generally missing is cross-pack integration. When they add new features, they really need to make sure they mesh with and enhance previous features. The Sims 3 did this pretty well, even with store items. For example, if you own the Bohemian Garden pack, which adds new fruits like strawberries, AND the Indulgent Bakery pack, your sims can use the baking station to make desserts based on the newly added fruits. It's such a simple touch, but it makes the game feel much more cohesive and planned.

Just to get disappointed in the end. The lost me when they started splitting the DLCs so much. It's true we all wanna own the full collection, even though we're not gonna play all the content, just for the sake of knowing we could have the full experience if we wanted to. But back then, on the other Sims era, we could buy all the packs they released knowing that we would get something cool within that pack (cuz back in the days each pack embodied many different themes at once). Now, it's just a money-grubbing game. I still hope Sims 5 returnst to its origins... Let's hope for the best. 😪

I don't think every sims game has to have all the exact features and dlc as all the other ones, I mean they're already pretty much the same game gameplay-wise, just with some added content and technical improvements; so I really wouldn't have minded if Sims 4 took out some features BUT only if they replaced those with something else, something better. Which.... yeah, didn't happen, the only really "new feature" was the emotions and those ended up entirely useless, any other new features after the release were shallow and repetitive as well

Also, the thing that bothers me so much is that the sims 4 has so much room for development and there are so many ideas that can be added to the game but ea turns a blind eye to them. plus, the whole dollhouse thing isn't a disadvantage for me since that's one of the biggest reasons why I'm still playing it; however, them making a big deal out of it just doesn't make sense not to mention their overly expensive packs (which is why I pirated the game and the DLCs don't tell ea lol) modders and costume content creators are carrying the game on their backs at this point.

Hi Satch, recently found your channel and I’m really enjoying it! I agree with everything you said in this video. I have loved The Sims since the Sims 1. I received Sims 4 when it came out (yes on CD-ROM) for a birthday gift, and thought it was so pretty looking as far as graphics, etc…but it was so boring! So I went back to playing my Sims 2 and Sims 3 games, because they were actually fun! The sims had personality, they weren’t carbon copies of each other, the backstory was interesting, the things you could do with them were silly, crazy, fun…and…I thought, well, maybe because it’s just basegame, I’ll wait for a while, and the good stuff will come…and yes, more packs did come which gave you more to do…with the same boring Sims being able to do a few more activities. It’s not the no cars, it’s not the no zombies (although, I loved zombies, lol) it’s that every household I make, no matter if I completely randomize traits, looks, everything…is exactly the same…I can get a set of Barbie dolls and make up stories for them…but this is a video game with a rich history…and they created a fantastic visual look with more advanced technology but removed any heart and soul from the game. It’s just shallow and meaningless…and for years, I kept thinking, well, this new pack will bring all this cool stuff that will make it interesting…and I just kept buying those packs, having fun with them for an hour playing the new features…and…yeah. So, I’ve rigged up my 2022 MacBook Pro to run Sims 3 and Sims 2, and I’ll go have fun with that. I’m really done with it. When watching simmers do LPs because they’re creative and invent “dialogue” and “emotions” and “storylines” is more fun than the actual game itself…something is very wrong…far beyond the completely unacceptable broken games/patches, etc they continually make and sell with a “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain” attitude and just gaslight everyone with “your mods and CC are making it not work!” I’ll watch my favorite simmers LPs because they are creative, entertaining people who are able to basically invent and/or make fun of the gameplay do LPs, and just play Sims 3 or Sims 2 when I actually want to enjoy “The Sims.” Maybe EA will sell the game rights to someone who actually cares for them to do Sims 5 or whatever (yeah, not going to happen.) But, really at this point, just give it up already. Start over with a new core of the game for Sims 5, and actually make it fun…I have very little hope that this will happen, but it is what it is. My frustration has hit its peak, and I’m out.

I think EA, as a whole is becoming the…generation? Of employees who are riding on the coat tails of the creators of their franchises, because The Sims is not the only property of EA receiving this treatment. Madden Football while a niche demographic of fans have had vary long standing fans, just like The Sims. And Just like The Sims each new release is hyped and looks oh so shiny only for players to realize its not even an upgrade from previous games
My brother in law, just like many sims fans buys each new release in the hopes that it will be something good, I regularly make the joke that he is in an abusive relationship with Madden.
And Madden, just like Maxis, had a vision for the game and the releases he was in charge of where good, but it was actually much shorter lived then The Sims and the horrible releases have been out longer then The Sims started going down hill.
I don’t know who at EA got the wild hair up their ass to start phoning it in, because that’s literally what they are doing. They think they are trimming the fat by getting rid of small detail animations, the personal stories of already made Sims and mysteries, literally just letting the date event on the damn game work where you take a date to a restaurant, nice looking food, because it’s all just extra fluff right?
And releasing pools and toddlers in packs, while free, just made them look bad, and they had to spend money on those commercials that were hyping each stupid thing up like they are just losing money it looks like. I am sure their are still inspired creators at EA but decisions are being made by people who seem more interested in soaking up more quick money from their long standing franchises then actually creating anything

  • @apparentlyawesome1
    @apparentlyawesome1 Před 2 lety +2

I think Olympus ruined the potential of The Sims 4, or better yet led to The Sims 4 only having potential but never living up to it. There was and still is so much that can be done, maybe not in The Sims 4 anymore but in future games.
And the part about Sims 4 ruining to concept of expression and individuality because they all act the same is how I've felt from the beginning. I think emotions were an earlier hint that everything about the sims as individuals would be for show. I felt the same way with the skin tones update, removing gender boundaries, the pride flags, them adding different foods from different cultures, and now pronouns. It's great, and I don't want to discourage it but the sims are still bland. We can easily give our sims the appearance of individuality but they all feel the same. What about their personalities?
SimGuruGrant actually said that the more traits you add the less distinct sims are because the traits just cancel each other out and every sim is vanilla if you have more than 3 traits. As if emotions aren't already canceling traits out and the sims aren't already vanilla in Sims 4. That is my number one problem with The Sims 4 and why I stick with Sims 2 and 3.

this is copied and pasted for the uk government website.
You must offer a full refund if an item is faulty, not as described or does not do what it’s supposed to.
You have to offer a refund for certain items only if they’re faulty, such as:
personalised items and custom-made items, for example curtains
perishable items, for example frozen food or flowers
      newspapers and magazines
unwrapped CDs, DVDs and computer software
Even in the sims 3 I bought island paradise and kind of regretted it. I wanted a refund but apparently you can get a refund for anything bought on origin except for DLC which again I'm pretty sure is illegal? It might be different in the US but it doesn't make a difference! Its just totally wrong to rip people off like this. I might be overreacting but it does make me really angry.

Have a metro station in most neighbourhood, have some airports or port, even if only cosmetic. Enter the metro station and you get to travel to another area of the same world, go to the airport or port and travel to another world.
Regarding the traits : having three main, or dominant, traits is OK, BUT, there should be place for some secondary and tertiary traits, and more of them. Like 3 or 4 primary traits, 4 to 8 secondary traits, and 6 to 18 tertiary ones.

Call me a basic batch - I quite like the simplicity of The Sims 4. Having said that, it’s terribly inconsistent and I’m not even sure it knows what it wants to be. Like it had a format, but is trying to merge it with content that doesn’t quite fit, or work with the game they had created. You can grow and sell crops, but also conveniently sell them in the inventory? And then when wedding stories came out, owning the pack meant that you had NO OTHER OPTION than go through the stress of that mess unless you opted to elope. It gives the option of choice for some things, but not everything and you’re forced to experience new mechanics on the odd playthrough where you might want less of a challenge. Right, gonna get back to- oh, my sim is too sad to do anything. Never mind :)

unpopular opinion, but honestly i don't really feel like cars would be a very useful or fun addition to sims 4 as it is now. i'm not saying this because i don't want cars, but because, well. what's the point of them in the current game? you can only load in one neighborhood (or, well. one LOT + it's surroundings) at a time, and barely any of them are big enough to warrant a car because most of the time your sims can just walk anywhere in no time at all (though some of the packs have had slightly bigger maps, but the basegame neighborhoods are teeny tiny)
if a map is an entire big town it makes sense to have cars, but in the sims 4 what are you gonna do, drive down the street to the next loading screen? what's the point.
i do wish things were different, don't get me wrong, i'm definitely not a fan of how the sims 4 handles maps and neighborhoods and stuff, but that's a whoooole other can of worms.

basically, in order to make cars make sense in the sims 4 i feel like it'd require an overhaul of how the entire game worlds work, and i don't think ea is gonna do that

Sims 2 have cars even though it’s closed world where you can’t even visit your neighbours only can go to community lots

  • @liliannacollura-lambright2996

I agree completely! Plus, the lots are all plain and boring to build on. It looks nice, it runs better on my computer than the sims 3, but I really miss the old setup, lots, characters, and open world.

The MAC Sims palette didn’t even have names based on the Sims? That’s crazy. Well MAC has been trash for testing on animals

I'm glad you shat on the Moschino stuff, I thought I was the only one that found it stupid.

The fashion photographer is horrid. I wanted to have a landscape photographer freelance career, rather than finding out that I have to have two different lamps for the bloody jobs to work properly.
It is sickening the content that was missing from Sims 4. With Sims 2, we said, "Okay, they have new ideas. Excellent!" With Sims 3, we said, "Some of these are new ideas. Okay." With Sims 4, we're like, "WHY ARE WE HAVING TO PAY EXTRA FOR EVERY LITTLE THING!?!?!"
Those are still there to purchase, and we change aspirations like underwear to get more points to buy those. I hate the "wants and fears", as they are now called. They are intrusive to my game, and just another way that they hijack MY SIM and MY GAME. And the Vampire pack was shite, because all the sudden half of the conversational topics available were about vampires, just because I added that pack. I wanted the content, not Vlad showing up at every bloody house for every new sim I play.
You and I deeply disagree about how to play the sims. I want to design my own sim, but I love some of the random shit that happens, even in Sims 4. The For Rent pack makes someone, a stranger if you don't know anyone yet, call you up wanting to crash at your place. My Secret Agent guy found a best friend like that. This dude called him up wanting to crash at his place. Okay. I want to control my sim, however. I want to make the decisions.
You seem to want them to tell you what to do with your sim, because you cannot think of anything yourself. You think that creativity is the purvue of small children. That is not the truth. The Sims franchise gives you the ability to live a life that you cannot, or cannot anymore, or never even want to. Your fantasy is the limit in all of the games, to some extent. That said, we need more content in the Sims 4 for less kaching.

the thing is the sims 4 only works with mods that adds things that are basic features in the others games on the franchise
