for those in 1.19.3+ using the hopper method: to avoid items getting stuck in the hoppers, you need to move the top layer UP by ONE BLOCK so the redstone torch from the top layer does not touch the hopper below (locking items from moving). you do NOT need to move the chests in the top layer up; they can stay in the same spot, you will just need an additional hopper for each module to reach the chests. there might be an easier way to solve this, but this is what worked for me.
4 tutorials and millions of comments later, this was the fix i needed. It worked. Lots of thanks 😅
@@fludster Had this exact problem just now and decided to look into the comments. Your comment was top comment, thanks! Wish I had seen it before I built it though...
What is the supposed top layer
@@GusGusGames If you build the sorting system in two layers like he shows in the video, be sure to build the top layer one block higher than what he shows. The chests can be in the same position if you just add another set of hoppers, but the redstone parts all need to be one block higher.
If you move the top layer up then nothing locks like what

Thank you both for all the videos that you make. When I see a SkulkerCraft upload notification it makes me happy. Keep doing what you do great!
2:15 Quick tip: If you dont want to leave 41 items in the first slot , you can add 11 filter items in the other four slots for the same effect. It sould leave 1 item in the first slot.
This only works on modules with no others right next to them.
I was about to say the same thing, although I usually leave 41 filler items in slot 2 then one item in the last three slots. It has worked for me with modules right next to each other. Its especially nice when you don't want to waste 41 netherite ingots.
You can also let all the miscellaneous items feed into a chest at the end of the storage system, meaning all the unstackable ones.
Personally I don't use sorting anymore because its just too laggy. Instead I might have sorters on auto farms so they're unloaded when I'm not near the farm.
no and never, if the input speed is faster than the hopper speed. When too much item go into the filter, it will cause the signal that the comparator give out will be too strong and affect the ajacents modules. Using 41 items in the first slot will never break because the comparator give out a power-2 strength signal for 41 items and power-3 strength signal (which allows items to go through the hopper) for 42-64 items.
@@Sam-vf5uc I'm trying your solution with 41 sorter items in slot 2, but when I put sorter items in the next hopper they get sucked away
waterstreams can fuck up the system unloading slices next to it. learn redstone before you teach it.
quick tip, try this right now and you'll see it wont work

Nice summary. Your first design has inspired my world's storage system. Tysm. :)
Love your videos, always so creative and helpful! Your tutorials have a wonderful feel to them, as well, not too fast and not too slow.
Water paths work better if they are adjacent to the hoppers as opposed to on top. Just have the water stream bend before going to the sorters and make sure that wall is all homey blocks. If done correctly, the items will be partially over the hoppers in the water stream. By setting it up this way, it fixes 2 problems outlined here.
1. You won't need a gap for the water streams.
2. 16 stack items sort perfectly fine.
Thank you that one person here understand a normal Itemsorter in 2022
perfectly said, thank you. However you dont need to use honey blocks in particular. There are many other options aswell to aline the items. Chests, Enderchest, Trap Chest. Even sea pickles work if used correctly. :P
Is there a tutorial for that? I would love to make it, I hate wasting iron for hoppers
Adjacent on the chest side or redstone side?
I'd assume the redstone side but just making sure.
Just been researching this sort of stuff recently, getting my head around it in order to build an automated storage system because my current little minecraft home is chock full of chests and shulker boxes of stuff. Thanks for the tips on chest and redstone displacement for 2 or 3 tiered storage.
I always use an alternating pattern with that sorting system because I like using water streams to transport items and as you metnioned it can cause the sorters nearby to break so when you alternate the pattern a bit with 2 additional blocks, nearby sorter tiles aren't affected anymore but it makes the build 1 block higer and reach 1 block farther into the back but at that small expense you can make it stable forever and overflow won't affect the sorting
If you are having trouble with items getting stuck in the hoppers at the beginning with the water method you need to rearrange the water elevator so that it turns a corner before any items reach a hopper. This way the items are on the edge of the hoppers.
Ty so much😀
That helped. Thanks
Lifesaver I was having that exact problem
Thank you so much!! 😊
I was literally gonna build this yesterday, but i couldn’t find a tutorial i liked. thank you!
Quick note: 3.15 I found that in 1.19.3, you must build the two sorters directly on top of each other. Other wise, if you are connecting them with hoppers, the items will get stuck in the first hopper near a redstone torch.
IM HAVING THAT ISSUE RIGHT NOW
What do you mean two sorters ontop of each other?
@@SmolHeliolisk I’m a bit unclear…. So the second layer should be directly in line with the bottom layer, with two blocks in between the Redstone dust on the bottom and the Redstone dust on the top. Unfortunately I can’t send images in the comments, but I hope this helps!

3:51 tip- instead of glass blocks surrounding the water, you can use honey blocks so that they align themselves in a better way
Thank you finally a sorting system that doesnt have insanely complex redstone that no one can decipher unless you are shulkercraft thanks man keep it up
sorting systems shown in this video are the easiest one, u just need to search "sorting system", most of them are like this.
btw, nothing is really complex in redstone, u just need (like for anything) to learn it
redstone is basically how computer works, u can do binary with it , thats how people do minecraft in minecraft without command blocks
and i dont think that shulkercraft players are that good in redstone, they mostly just do insane and massive projects, but the redstone side is mostly from youtube
It's too easy, thank you, this is my favorite channel
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR LIKE 3 YEARS NOW
THANK YOU SOO MUCH
you wasted your life.
czcams.com/users/results?search_query=sorting+system+minecraft
just typed sorting system minecraft, those are same designs.
For the outer curves I’ve seen red stone brainiacs like Ilmango use exactly two (2) sea pickles on one block to align the items properly using a water sorting system. Idk if you can place them on glass but if you have an automatic shulker smasher sorter it’s probably useful to incorporate.
you can also use chests
for 16 item sorter you can put 4x multiple random items instead of 1, so your 41 limit will drop. so then you can use 1 item as item filter and also filter 16 item stacks
Your explanation helped me alot. Ive been looking for a single chest sorter for poppies for my iron farm
I just finished my storage system! If I had waited a little bit it would have been so much easier to do it with this tutorial lol
This is really needed for my hard-core world ty
6:21 here you can double the input system's efficiency by putting a double chest with 2 distincts hopper lines linked to the dropper
That way, the dropper will always drop something in the one directly above it
At the top, you can simply link the last dropper into a water stream to avoid clogging
how the hopper line that distribute the items in the first floor is working, when you have redstone torch above it?
wow really cool ! Thank you shulkercraft from finland !
I like how you made it on survival instead of other videos
Great video thankyou! Helped me fix my system on my world with my nephew.

this was very useful thank you
I have fallen in love with shulkercraft videos :P
edit: I watch even the stuff I already know cause he always adds useful info (water = more lag than hoppers, i searched for hours on google with no definite answer!...)
For anyone having troubles with the lower row of hoppers:
at 3:26 in the video where he points out that you need an extra hopper, you actually need 2 extra hoppers for it to work so the redstone torches don‘t interfere with the lower row of hoppers
Om top of that other extra row??
On *
@@xafips4xafi466 yes, then you build the sorting module like normal from that extra extra row of hoppers
Yo, Im gonna try this tomorrow, Would you answer me a question?
If i add a extra hopper will i need to change all the redstone behind it one block up or down aswell ?
Or i just add the extra hoppers and it will be fixed ?
i like how just storing items is one of the most important part of this game
Thank you so much i am just building new storage room in my world
Thanks for the interesting video, I like it.
You don't need to spend 41 of your precious items! You just need 45 items in the hopper. So you can just dump 44 dirt and 1 of your item to be sorted! You just won't need to sort dirt. Unless you rename 4 items to sort your dirt first in your first hopper!
No because if your two chests are full then the system will overflow and break, you need 41 of the filtered item in the first slot and 1 1 1 1 of filter block to avoid this.
You can use this for rare materials that you are unlikely to collect two chests of them. But otherwise don't :)
Wait that is so creepy. Me and my friend were discussing and building an automatic storage like 12 hours ago, and you uploaded this video 4 hours after we went to sleep.
You can use a sea pickle to line the items for the hopper
NO WAY you posted this video... Litteraly yesterday I looked for storage room designs and a month ago it happened the same thing but for the best minecraft armor...
Pretty sure these guys can read in our viewer's mind...
Thanks ! 😄
I was just thinking to build a good storage system in my world n there we go a new upload
Quick tip: Mumbo Jumbo has 2 mechanisms to sort unstackables: one with only redstone and a more recent one with allays. Just type unstackable sorter mumbo jumbo in the search box and it should pop up.
Pro of the old design is it doesn't require allays, which are difficult to find, so it's alot simpler ti build. The downside is that it cannot distinguish between different kinds of unstackables (i.e. gold sword from chainmail chestplate), so you're limited to filtering stackables from unstackables only, and not sorting everything.
Hope you find ut useful!
Guys if the items get stuck on the last hopper just put 3 sea pickles on the water source, the items should get a little stuck on the pickles, but they should float and get over the pickles so they have more height to get over the last hopper's ledge, that worked for me atleast.
Amazing!
If you use 44 of the item you don't want to sort it works as well, for example, instead of 41 diamods, you leave 41 baked potatoes (and of course the other 3 slots completed, for a total of 44 placeholder items).
A perfect underground base in my opinion is the best location for this storage system
ImpulseSV is the king of the auto storage sorter
A lot of people seems to be asking about sorting multiple items into one chest. There a a lot of designs called Multi item sorters(MIS) that do exactly this. They are actually cheaper considering how many items they can sort. And, it`s worth your time watching someone who actually invented the contraption and knows, how it works. Shulkercrafts survival series are cool, making tutorials on someone elses farm is not
Very awesome clip
Thank you so much
JaypeHDs video from about two months ago uses this design but does not require you to leave 41 of each block in the Hopper. Instead it lets you use the filter item instead. I would watch his video on this straight after if I was building this storage system
For rare items that are usually less than 1 stack you can use just one "filter" hopper as a storage. As a bonus you can have up to five different slots for five item types
With water distributing system it can be built even in quiet early game. Without iron farms.
thx you so much
Video idea, get 1 double chest full for every wood item or every item that can be crafted by only wood, (you can use bamboo for sticks because sticks can be crafted from wood) get a double chest of every boat, every door type etc.
Bruce what the fuck are you talking about
THANK YOU
Actually you can sort 16 stack items, just put items in hopper like 1 38 1 1 1, also you dont have to waste 41 of item you want to sort, just make it 1 41 1 1 1 (first "1" is 1 item you want to sort, the rest is random named item)
Bro I like your all videos
Your videos are super
Very useful
Thank you so much for this this really helped except can you cut out the second double chest and that hopper to save on iron?
you have really good english my guy. Keep going
with the water option: you don't need the space after 8 blocks. If u just use another way to stop the water and not the pressureplate. E.g. open fence gates or signs. They will not make a redstone output once an item is flowing through it, though making it possible for a no-gap-chest layout :)
You still need the ice block tho
@@ChaineRubis jo thats right, but i usually dont go with the water exactly on top of thr hopper. I build a 2nd row of ice next to the hopper and aline the items perfetly. This way items travel really fast and u can work efficiently with the chest layout
@@atomiq2707 I'd like to see the design, working with ice and water is better efficiently even though I haven't made it that far in my world yet to gether ice to try this out, but water and ice from what I've seen is using a whole lot less of resources. Your thoughts?
@@atomiq2707 do you have a suggestion of a tutorial with this methode ?
I also forgot to say that CubicMetre made a lot of videos about item sorters, so you can easily understand more about them, and make better storage rooms
Aight, I need the FASTES sorting system cuz of lag!! So, what is the BEST you can do? I really NEED it!!! Love your content!!
u cant really go faster than hopper speed so...
My brother and i have in our survival world a system that can hold 300 items yet,but we made it really bigger 👍can you please make a video or a world download for all items in minecraft and how sort them in the storage ? :)
I watched your previous tut about this, it's mostly built just have to decide on the last few items I want to sort, xbox one here and I paused the video when I heard you say....water system creates more lag than hoppers?? Up till now I thought the opposite was true? Believe me, just the redstone alone makes the room laggy! Can yourself or someone reading confirm? I'll now continue the video....😌
His pronunciation of mountain is absolutely perfect 😭🤣
YOU DO NOT NEED TO PUT 41 good items in each sorter lol. Shows you clearly don't know what's happening. You just need the total to be 45. So put 44 of the sorter item in there (making sure all but one slot is filled in the hopper), and then put one of the item to be sorted in the final slot.
The comparator is reading how full the hopper is, and the redstone torch is locking the hopper below that one. Once there are 46 items in there, the comparator outputs a signal strong enough (3) to trigger the repeater and disable the redstone torch, unlocking the hopper and allowing a single item to flow through the hopper thus bringing the item count back to 45 and re-locking the hopper below.
when you build a second layer of chests does that require a separate input chest or can both layers be connected to each other?
looking for an awnser on how to connect them up to.. my logical brain is thinking to drop a hopper at the end to then loop the items that didnt get sorted at the top over the lower "ring" but.. would have liked that explained
Waw, this is going to be useful to build the storage room of the seuvival world of our channel!! Thank you guys!!!
u made a shulkerfarm from cubicmetre
but u still struggle with redstone?
uh, learn basics pls
@@Kittynator_ we have a raid farm for redstone
IMPROTANT: If you don't want 41 valuable diamonds (Or anything else) You can manually add more junk items and it will work perfectly fine, with less items stuck in the sorter. For instance, my sorting systems are formatted like so: (With the same redstone)
For items stackable up to 64:
2 of the item I am sorting
40 junk items
1 junk item
1 junk item
1 junk item
For items stackable up to 16:
2 of the item I am sorting
31 junk
1 junk
1 junk
1 junk
For non-stackable it varies, but an allay sorting system guaranteed works for all non-stackable items. (If it's armor, you can use armor stands and a very sophisticated dispensing system, but it's really complicated, too much so to type. I think Raysworks has some designs. There are other ways to sort other unstackables, but again its complicated and unique per item.)
This way it won’t be overflow protected
No because if your two chests are full then the system will overflow and break, you need 41 of the filtered item in the first slot and 1 1 1 1 of filter block to avoid this.
You can use this for rare materials that you are unlikely to collect two chests of them. But otherwise don't :)
Could you please make a video on how to feed from multiple farms into a sorter? Everyone's sorter video talks about how to sort a lot of items but not how to deal with colliding carts coming from multiple farms. I've built the sorter and it works great, but I have 6 farms making a mix of 15 produce. Trying to get a single chest minecart to stop at each farm and then to the sorter has totally stumped me.
You need 6 cart unloaders and a series of 6 water inputs into the system. Imagine a HHH shape, with the middle being the main stream to the sorter and each leg being the input from each farm :)
@@GameVegan I worked out a system where each farm feeds into a hopper and a single chest minecart makes the rounds to each farm's hopper then ends up at the sorter. Activator rails switch the tracks so the chest cart bypasses all the farms on the way out, then on the way back it stops at each.
get this epic man to 2 mill
Love you guys :)
i love your accent :)))
thank you, halped very much
P.S.: If you're using the hopper method to move items, you cant stack the sorters since the redstone torch on the second layer will lock the hopper right below it on the hopper moving the items on the first layer. Tested it out in a creative world. Any tips on how to solve this?
Edit: FIGURED IT OUT! You know how he said to build the second layer of the redstone part one block higher? Well do that, then move the WHOLE SECOND LAYER (redstone & chests) up ONE more block. That prevented the redstone torch from locking the hopper. It was fun figuring that out
are you sure homie the hopper still lines up under the torch
love ur videos
This man found every problem and gave y’all the solution 👏
Thanks
see what I do is use the most common block as you say dirt but then I'll rename it to slots so then I can stack dirt in it as long as you dont send any though named slots then it won't break I tend to put item that I want sorting first then one dirt(renamed Slots) the another 1 dirt(renamed Slots) then another 1 dirt(renamed Slots) then finely 41 dirt(renamed Slots) at the end and if it's stacks of 16 instead of putting 41 at the end you'll only put 38 instead
So you still have to leave a space in between chests of 16 stacks items?
No you can put them next to each other
His English is loud and clear!
Thx so mutch for this vid but all I need is the chests and hippers
just what i needed
don't make this
