Yes it will work fine. We can call it as induction motor. It will also provide High starting torque because we know condition for high starting torque..Rotor resistance should be equal to rotor reactance. R=Xl. Now let consider we have starting frequency from 5Hz, and inductance of coil is 1 Henry, Resistance of coil is 31.4 ohms. Reactance Xl = 2pi fL= 2*3.14*5*1= 31.4ohms. Here resistance will equal to reactance 31.4=31.4so it will provide high starting torque. So it will provide smooth starting and high torque....
