Croc is Garp's biological daughter, Dagon his adopted son, raised separately, they met each other at Roger's execution, neither gave their last name but fell in love and had Luffy 5 years later. Croc at Marineford hears that Dragon is Garp's son/ Luffy's dad and thinks he got bodied by his own accidental incest baby. That's why he looked sick and said he was having a bad day after Sengoku made the announcement, and then went to extreme lengths to keep Luffy alive.
The fact that the only damage he got was bc he was trying to protect people says a lot about Garps strength
I mean that's just straight wrong. We see him bleeding going in to the chapter so he was already getting hurt badly before Shiryu stabbed him. We also see him get hit to the ground by Aokiji when he was not protecting anyone. You cannot attribute him getting blown back by Aokiji as him taking a hit for someone else when Aokiji went straight for him.

@@tyronedacosta8890 If it's enough to make him bleed, I think its enough to be acknowledged as damage rather than avoid the fact that he was damage outside of Shiryu at all. Unless Garp's endurance is trash, I truly do not think that stab is enough since we have examples like Katkrui impaling himself, Luffy having a chunk ripped out of him by Katakuri, Whitebeard getting much more punishment and Kaido getting tabbed by 8 guys.

I was so keyed in on Aokiji and Garp's interactions and relationship that everything else kind of faded away. Garp has literally raised/mentored some of the most important characters for the future of the one-piece world. It's not normal for the king of pirates to entrust his baby with a marine, and it's even more abnormal for the marine to accept and raise him like his own son. Garp has always been far and away the best written character to me because of the constant conflict and juxtaposition of him chasing his ideals in uniform yet having the most significant impact on the lives of those on the other side. As for Aokiji, I understand Brago's doubts about his character, but I think this conflict has been masterfully composed by Oda. We are still waiting for Aokiji's true motives to be unveiled, and honestly feels like we've been waiting since he saved nico robin (which was most definitely treason and would have gotten him executed). Weirdly, hearing Aokiji refer to Garp as "Garp-san" was extremely satisfying. Credit where credit's due, you're going up against a legend.. clearly the bb pirates didn't get the memo.
Last rant, the bb pirates have no chance in hell against luffy and his crew. These dudes are weak - both skill and character-wise, and I expect zoro to defeat shiryu without even unsheathing his sword (exaggeration, but still).

Yo going from Garp inspiring and leading one page to getting stabbed the next was so emotionally wretching. This is why we read manga, this come back chapter was an incredible experience.
The parallels between Garp at Pirate Island and Whitebeard at Marineford are STRONG, and it's crazy how little appreciation people are giving to that. It's more than just surface-level comparisons I think that these characters going through such similar situations and how they manage it speaks to both of their characters very well

His composure in this current situation, his poise against his enemies where it seems like he can’t be shaken, his devious smile when facing adversity, and the dedication he has to his training and his brand of justice all make him, as you’ve said, one of the greatest characters in One Piece. Garp's character as a pillar in the Marines trying to find the right pupil is so good. It's sad that 3/4 of the people Garp cared about and mentored in some aspect ended up on paths that directly oppose him; his son became a revolutionary, his grandson became THE infamous pirate, his best pupil left became a pirate; its no wonder he values Koby so much. And rn people are slandering Koby for his inaction or inexperience, but he's currently on the path most aligned with Garp, so hes doing something "right" and has a quality that the other 3 dont, despite their power.
Coby's strong enough for civilian rescue but too weak for 1v1 Yonko crew pirates. I don't even know how Coby's story will pan out in the final saga, when we got people like Shanks, Blackbeard, Mihawk, Crocodile, Luffy, Gorosei, Seraphims, Imu, and of course the legend Buggy.

Luffy before fighting equally to kaido he got 3 power ups after a 2 years time skip. If koby in a couple of weaks go from his level right now to something around Jimbe,that will be the end of the power scalling of this manga, now imagine if he could fight kaido or luffy. The Bag punching was easily my favorite set of panels. Kuzan growing to match Garp's impact. Garp going from annoyed, to teaching, to confiding and enjoying Kuzan's company. Really gives more weight to their words and blows.
It's an all out brawl which is great to see. Time is always hard to gague. Can't get an accurate measure, but context does give it a brawl that's been going for a while.
- Marines and Kuzan are all bruised and bloodied from brawking, and both Kuzan and Garp have lost their jackets.
- Garps ship was in an enclosure of moved buildings. It is in open waters with loaded slaves. Kujaku had to make a path or travel to it after Garp sent it out.
- Ship has wounded Marines as well. Notably multiple frozen Marines which implies Kuzan has been up from Blue Hole for some time.
- Wolfe got into and out if the fight.
Koby is a greenhorn. You have kids like Luffy, Sabo, Ace, and Zoro who grew up training and fighting. Koby by comparison is two years in. He's got perhaps the WILDEST growth rate power wise, but he's got WAYS to go. More important I think is this will serve to curb that inexperience and naivete. I don't see him near Admirals until you get to time skip end of series stuff.
There literally hasn't been any growth shown from Koby.

But it still irritates me.
This chapter is just the setup for Koby's power up. I suspect your irritation is entirely intentional. That will make it all the more impact full when Oda flips the script. Koby's about to go ultra instinct now that Garp's in danger. I could be wrong, but that definitely feels like where Oda is going with this.

But for people who actually read the story knows that to get any admiral position you first have to at least master or unlock haki not to mention the 6 power training you have to go through which is basic training regiment
So the admirals have overpowered fruits and strong haki and high combat skills but i see polls of people voting that zoro can beat a admiral or that the admirals are equal to commander when the story shows that the admirals are comparable to the yonko and key word is comparable

I love the parallels here to Marineford. Whitebeard gave it all for the future Ace could bring, and Garp is doing the same for the future Koby could bring for the marines. Both were stabbed unexpectedly, and both are going to fight to save the future they desire.
Though Garp was there for Marineford, and he saw how Ace was baited into staying, and how Whitebeard ultimately failed. He also had to live with his own guilt about being unable to save Ace, so I really hope he ensures Koby survives. Like grabbing him and tossing him all the way to the Marine Ship, smiling in his final moments as Koby is flung away and the pirates / Aokiji finish him off.
The one thing I'm sad about is how weak Koby is. Right now we have the perfect set up for the future of the Marines / Garp's legacy. Two disciples, one aiming to save the marines, and one that failed to save the marines and has become a pirate. There's so much potential there for an emotional fight between Aokiji and Koby, but Koby just has no way to get anywhere close to Aokiji's level before the end of the series, not without another timeskip.

I think the marines will portray as the hardwork climbing the ranks like koby smoker helmeppo now kuzan and garp while most of pirates has the talent or special since the beginning like kaido bigmom oden. BB pirates really is the modern rocks pirates since they all have their own agendas and wants to become famous not just BB.

In the last few chapters, we noticed that most of the big names that were a mystery were revealed starting from greenbull, then vegapunk, then shanks, then garp, then imu and the gorosei. Who is the only one that oda still didint reveal anything about?? DRAGON. I cant really say for sure if dragon will show up to join forces with garp but I can bet that in the coming 4 or 5 chapters we will see a glimpse of dragon’s power

It sets up Black Beard pirates as an irredeemable A-hole
It created a very important lessons to the youngster and the future of the marines what real marine is all about
it shows Garp although his raw strength is above Aokiji and anyone on that island, his stamina and durability have been reduced considerably due to old age, just like Rayleigh
And it created more doubt about Aokiji allegiance
I think this chapter is great, although very triggering, I think it is necessary, but in my opinion, I'd like Oda to put more respect to Garp strength and legend tho
Koby falling for that trap is in character, he is the Captain America trying to save everyone and he's tricked for being naive like Luffy what we can criticise for someone is his position is the lack of reaction.
About Shiryu his fruit clears his presence, observation haki can't detect him until the last moment, that also shows how Garp is tired from the fight. If he was clean he could just tank the stab with haki. Just like he said, Shiryu was always aiming at him, the man was hidden until he saw an opening.
That's the thing about a lot of fans.
They seem to forget this is exactly koby's character. He's just that type of person. Sure, like you said he can be criticized for not expecting it to be a trick, but luffy's fallen for far worse tricks throughout the story, let's not forget.
I don't think shiryu's fruit keeps future sight from working on him but given the nature of the fruit it's definitely ideal for countering it. The most we've seem from future sight is that it allows the user to see a few seconds into the future so all he would need to do is stay invisible until he was close enough to his opponent that they couldn't avoid his attack even if they did see it coming.
Also, something that really agrivates me about so fans is that they act like future sight is some unbeatable power or that anyone who has should be like katakuri and almost impossible to hit. They seem to forget the examples PtS were future sight was shown, and overcome. The primary example that comes to mind is when luffy fought Hancock's sisters. One of the has future sight, and it is obvious because she was literally calling out each attack luffy tried to use on her, but luffy still beat her even when she was using it.
Finding out Kuzan grew up and was raised by Garp was forshadowed back decades ago back when the straw hats came across kuzan riding the cycle on the frozen ocean. Kuzan letting the straw hats go, sparing them. Yes Kuzan has a history with Robin but he could’ve back then let her go but take in straw hat.

I believe Garp is not going to die. Kuzan won't let his mentor dies, I still suspect he has a big secret plan. The image of Luffy, Dragon, and Garp posing together ready to strike down Imu is too epic to pass.
In my eyes, away from power-scaling or meta arguments, the fact that you had such a visceral reaction to the disrespect that the titanic captains were throwing at Garp is a measure of how good Garp is from a character writing perspective. Garp is one of those characters who, despite having very little panel time, has managed to grab the adoration and respect of readers just as strongly as any of the protagonists. I'd also wager that, internally, Koby and Gruz probably had the exact same reaction you did, probably even stronger!
I'm wandering into speculation here, but I think that the Titanic Captains are trash talking him BECAUSE they know how powerful and respected he is. Is Garp himself likely to falter because of some smack? no; But Koby and Grus might. I could easily see Koby putting himself in unnecessary danger to protect the reputation of his teacher. In fact, Shiryu subsequently proves that they're leveraging the incompetence of the people surrounding Garp.
Hopefully koby gets angry looking at Garp going down and taps into his “real” inner strength and hits Aokiji.
The end of this battle will probably slingshot koby's growth even more
