@@Dave_of_Mordor Not really, we saw Koby consistently grow through the series through title pages and later on through actual chapters. The real problem is that we havenât really seen him take full advantage of his powers against enemies yet. He was also hinted to have a huge role in the Rocky Port incident but it hasnât been shown yet. I think Oda is holding off for that incident until a later date.
Oda is plotting something. We'll see the conclusion once we get back.

The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean is a pure black ship with black sails. Oda has referenced Pirate stories and lore before with stuff like Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman, so I wouldn't put it past him to reference a more modern (but still very popular) pirate story as well. Though I'm not sure who he'd have captaining that ship.

Garps a shitty father figure lmao. His sonâs the head of revolutionaries, his one grandson is dead, one is a yonkou, his ex student is threatening his young marine proteges. No wonder he has all his hopes in Kobe.
Aokiji had a very similar line to Saul in the Robin flashback where he says something like it would look bad for an ex vice admiral to stop the buster call before freezing Saul and in this chapter he says it would look bad if you took koby while teach was away.
There's no way Aokiji is killing Garp. Garp is someone Aokiji really looks up to and he owes Garp a huge favor. Him killing Garp just to get validation from BB is way out of his character. Especially when he told Smoker he's still him. Aokiji is just putting up a front by attacking the invaders, cuz if he didn't it'd have looked very suspicious of him.
I would like to think that too, but this chapter has given way too many confirmation that kuzan is on Blackbeard side. Based on the flashback kuzan wanted freedom of choice. He regrets killing Saul and probably wished that he didn't have to stick to his military duty and kill his friend, and Blackbeard gave him the "you're free to do whatever you want now" talk. Then kuzan told garp that just like him, he will also do whatever he wants. Garp pretty much confirms that kuzan regretted his past action by stating that he taught kuzan to live in the present.

I'm actually very curious about Rocks now. The fact that young Garp had to team up with Roger to take down his crew, says a lot. And garp being this destructive and powerful on his old age, that also says a lot about the old Era.
Debatable if Garp could take on Big Mom or Kaido still. Makes since why they needed to team up.
I was wondering the same thing, too. But then I remembered that the Rocks fight happened years before other major plot points. It happened 8 years before Garp fought Don Chinjao. It happened 10 years before Roger got sick. And then 4 years after Roger was diagnosed, he became Pirate King.
So what I'm getting at is Roger and Garp must've improved a lot after they joined forces. Garp even told Don Chinjao he was training for their upcoming battle. I don't think Rocks was stronger than the strongest pirate alive today. I like to think that the God Valley Incident simply introduced a whole new field of power-ups like advanced Haki and devil fruit awakenings.
tbf it was roger and garp vs the entire rocks crew, not just vs rocks himself, so it was like 2 vs 1000 which makes sense, doesnt mean rocks was as strong as both of them combined
Your not factoring in the fact roger and garp probably had a lot of help. Itâs more likely that they had the numbers advantage. Rocks had to be 1 of 1.

SWORD sounds like the Marineâs version of Counter Intelligence, which might make Kuzan a "NOC" - implying that he and Akainu fought on Punk Hazard as part of a VERY PUBLIC false flag operation that left him with a literal Burn Notice which would ingratiate him with any one of the underworld kingpins
Bingo sort of like a Departed situation which seems like the type of movie Oda would love. Kuzan showing his missing leg really seemed to me like he was really trying to sell Blackbeard how much he hates the marines now.
It baffles me that not so many people saw through Kuzan's phony joining scene. It's almost comically fake. Instead, fans running around with "oh, BB chasing dreams like Luffy" bananza. Well, duh. It's not important here. The way Garp accuses Kuzan in 'losing his way" also marks the fact that he never lost it in the first place. He's simply undercover. Garp is still under huge red flag, but not from Kuzan's hand.
And I doubt that Aokiji even lost that duel to Akainu, even moreso they said that Akainu of all peole had mercy on a fellow marine.

This chapter proves Garp has been underated by far too long and by far too many. Love to see it.

A perspective I never understood. We saw what Roger was capable of during the oden flashback, we knew Roger was far more powerful than even kaido, and obviously more powerful than whitebeard too, but for some reason everyone ignores the guy who was also putting the beatdown on rocks forces? It should already be assumed that prime Garp was as powerful as Roger and hasn't lost much power over the decades.
I see it a bit different. In this chapter we are exposed to two important things:
1. We see in Aokijis backflash that he absolutely dominated the titanic captains and made Blackbeard sweat, in effect powerscaling the admirals. They are bonkers, even compared to a hard boild yonko crew
2. Garp, as the past prime legandary hero of the marines, manhandling Aokiji hard
In addition we have also seen two of the strongest pirates in the currant world, Law and Kid, been crushed by old strength.
What if Oda is trying to tell us that we are now entering end game waters, and that the powerscaling that we have established thus far comes crushingly short in its attempted to makes sense of the gross strength of the not only the strongest of this era, but of the old era as well.
Bb has trash crew, if it was shanks crew, it would be similar to kidr scenario
To be fair tho, we only saw aokiji freeze Pizarro, San Juan, and vasco shot. And we donât know if they had their fruits at that point.

I recently thought of something, if Haki blooms in fights with other Haki users or at least has the potential to if your mindful of it like Luffy then it makes perfect sense why Shanks and potentially Mihawk are as strong with it as they are. They gamed the Haki system with their legendary duels⊠think about how much stronger Luffy got fighting Kat and Kaido, now imagine he fought Katakuri over and over again for YEARS! Shanks and Mihawk has been grinding out Haki lvls like nobodies business. I feel like itâs probably pretty rare to find someone so close to you in strength that you both can lvl up from your fights since it seems like you really have to push your limits to catch a bloom. It wouldnât surprise me if Dorry and Brogy get retconned to have some impressive Haki from their duals as well.
I wonder if their duels stopped because people have different talents when it comes to Haki, and the balance between Mihawkâs observation and Shanksâ ACoC was broken when Shanks figured out Observation Killing. They came up with a public reason to stop after they found out they couldnât gain anything more from their duels because Shanks had an unfair advantage. Imagine they did a coin flip over who gets to keep the Worldâs Strongest Swordsman title at the end of it lmao.
They already had impressive haki. I don't remember if they did it in the Manga but in the anime on Little Garden you can see them coat their weapons before blowing a hole through that Goldfish.

This chapter literally made garp EVEN BETTER. Galaxy fist wasnt impressive because of the AOE. We've seen better in pre timeskip. It was always the fact that it was from distance with just the shockwave of his fist from 100's of feet in the air. Thats why its nasty. He then speed blitzes aokiji...hes slowER and oldER not "slow and old". Theres a difference.
Also KOL was hating on some people being awake still as if people on kidds ship werent awake after divine departure
The people on kids ship didnt get hit by DD they got blown back by the following explosion of the gun that kid was charging didnt they

Yeah, I feel like where this is headed is that Koby and the rest of the Marines escape, but Garp goes down here ensuring that. So in a way, he exchanges himself for Koby and saves him that way. Similar to what Whitebeard tried to do near the end at Marineford. If it was 1v1 with Kuzan I would've still liked Garp's chances of at least escaping, but there are other titanic captains there too and I don't think the Marines there maybe with the exception of Groos are hanging with any of them. This could turn into Garp vs all of them.

Well if Garp defeats Aokiji before 10 days then he jumps before Akainu and other marines.
If he ties and none defeats each other, then he ranks the same as Aokiji.
If he handles Aokiji fairly easily, like he's doing right now and gets jumped by BB pirates and BB, then he is above Aokiji at minimum, but not clearly where.
If another party interrupts the fight, then Garp is at Aokiji level or slightly above.
If Garp goes toe to toe with Aokiji but ends up barely being defeated, then he is above Fuji/GB but at or below og admirals because i don't think the new ones can beat og ones.
But 1 thing is pretty sure, Prime Garp would annihilate any marine without breaking a sweat and only possibly Sengoku being able to give him somewhat of a fight.
He's old showing that his strength is decreasing, but if even at 80 he is this powerful and is boxing fleet admiral level characters and even blitzing them like nothing then this shows that in his prime he would beat the shit out of them easily.

Honestly I wouldn't feel anything if Garp lost and got killed by Kuzan that's why I don't think he will die here, if it was black beard or even someone like akianu sure but I just don't see Garp dying, losing maybe but dying no. I was thinking this exact same thing. We established that the Government may not move for Kobyâs hero title, so Blackbeardâs plan to make Hachinosu a kingdom doesnât work. Iâve seen a lot of people say Garp will die but I think itâs more likely HE gets captured instead of Koby. I think Kuzan gives up a new Hero marine for an old hero marine because Garp may be worth more than Koby. And Kuzan seems serious about sticking with Blackbeard, maybe they exchange Garp with the world government
I also kind of feel like Garp will most likely lose as well, but I think like you said he will make sure everyone else gets out, what if he pulls an Oden, and throws the ship with everyone else on it out of BB's island, and my head cannon if he takes out anyone else besides the fodder, it feels like it would be Pizarro, because he seems the most likely one that could prevent anyone from escaping, if he absolutely has to act (regardless of what BB might do), strategically he's the one that has to go, for an escape to work (though I guess it would have to depend on how fast San Juan Wolfe is).
Something small(or not) to note about vasco shot during the time when they were recruiting kuzan, they were openly mentioning that *they need more booze*. Also he had no face tats just yet so maybe he didnât have his DF yet

I feel like Blackbeard is pulling crew members together similarly to how Rocks probably pulled people together. People that donât necessarily belong together but feel the freedom to do what they want which builds loyalty to him. If Kuzan really is following Blackbeard of his on volition, I think at some point that crew will fall apart.
How so? Based on this chapter (1081) alone, Kuzan fit the people who don't belong together but stay together because of the freedom being a Blackbeard pirate. Why would it fall apart just because he joined?

I wonder if the pitch black ship is an indication that the 'man marked by flames' has some real world inspiration from the Black Ships that were the first western trading ships to arrive in Japan or Commodore Perry and the Black Ships that forced the opening of Japan.

Interesting, the dialog in the Viz translation is a bit different. Grus says that he's going to "Sabotage Koby" in the Viz translation. Also, the says that ships gets sucked up into a giant vortex and not whirlpools. But I guess a whirlpool is technically a vortex.

There's something GrandlineReview said that I'm going to reiterate and paraphrase because it is so true. Garp decided to go into another Marineford. A legend of a bygone era charging head on against a great power he likely can't defeat just to save someone he cares about. Garp vs Aokiji is reminding me of Whitebeard vs Akainu. I hate to see this because if we think back to Marineford we know what ultimately happened to Whitebeard and what seems to be happening to Garp. . And in the end, it'll likely be Blackbeard again taking down the generational icon. And if history does repeat itself, it's just adding more fuel to Luffy's raging inferno he feels for Teach. First he caused the death of Ace, now the possible death of his grandfather who though he may be a Marine he still loves and cares for. This is definitely just more build up for the eventual final confrontation along with obvious torch passing to the next generation

I like to believe that during this fight, Kuzan will be able to communicate with Garp that he is undercover. He (somehow) will explain to Garp what BBâs plan is and that the only way to stop it is for him to gain BBâs trust. Garp will understand it and make a deal that he will sacrifice himself to help Kuzanâs cause (as a member of SWORD) and let Koby walk free

I think Garp knows what Kuzan is up to, I think Garp saw that Coby was put into the hands of Blackbeard just like Ace was, and knew he would be used as a bargaining chip just like Ace. I think Garp is there to let Coby escape, put on a show to help Kuzan, and make himself Blackbeard's new bargaining chip to help Kuzan out as well. To support both of his students at his detriment seems like a very Garp thing to do.

I don't think this is the case. I think kuzan is really part of Blackbeard and the fight was a serious one. The chapter didn't show any indication that kuzan is a spy. He just wanted to do whatever he wanted, to be free, and his conversation with Blackbeard and garp shows that. I think he regretted killing saul and he blamed himself for following orders. Had he follow his own moral compass like garp does, his best friend (I think this is their relationship) wouldn't have to die.
@@Dave_of_Mordor I don't actually think that Kuzan is still in the navy, but I think Garp trusts him enough to put himself into Blackbeards hands, when Garp said "Wavering is a sign of weakness" that was him telling Kuzan to do what you have to do. I know Garp is crazy, but if he was serious about taking on Blackbeards, because assuming he would be on the island, you would think he would take like 2 ships.
@@samhasfinished2190 to me, garp asking kuzan to come back to the marine, then told him that wavering is a sign of weakness right after "I taught you to live in the present" was garp telling him to stop living in the past (the past where he killed his friend due to his duty as a marine) and to give up that duty/justice is weak. @@anmolt3840051 whitebeard wasn't even able to get a solid hit on kuzan, and akainu pulled off an extremely solid hit on whitebeard and was arguably stronger than him during marineford. Kuzan stalemated akainu for days. From the looks of it, garp is already giving kuzan a harder time than whitebeard. Granted garp isn't sick, but still he's well deserving of his status as a legend and I don't think any current admiral touches him in his prime.
