    Something I do with my thrunite (and it probably works with other AAA flashlights) is use a chapstick cap as a diffuser. (Some other lip balms have colored caps, so I've also got a red diffuser from a carmex lip balm)

    I like my little Fenix E01v2, in New Zealand we are a small market so what might be a great torch (flashlight) in the US may be unavailable here, unless you buy from overseas and that can make it uncompetitive when you factor in postage.

    Here some AAA lights to check out Wuben E01 , Acebeam M20 , Fenix E01v2 , Lumintop EDC02 , Nextorch K11 , Olight I3E EOS . I have the older OLIGHT I3 EOS low/mid/high 70lms in my CC wallet pouch.

    • @EspenFrafalne
      @EspenFrafalne Před rokem

      Acebeam M20 is discontinued for some reason, but i managed to pick up several of them on sale about the same time you wrote this review. The brightness and runtime on Mid is pretty good for hiking purposes. 25 lumen for about 220 minutes according to ZeroAir, and the brightness is also completely stable until it drops pretty abruptly towards the end. Another good thing is that it does NOT have PWM ("rapid flickering"). The size is perfect for clipping to the pocket, and IMO also pretty decent for a keychain (i use the MecArmy X1S on my keychain). Color temp is 6500K, which is not my favorite, but not a dealbreaker for me. The main thing i dont like is the beam pattern, so i wonder if i can get some nice TIR optics for this flashlight, that focuses the light a bit more and gets rid of spill.

    I think the Fenix E01 V2.0 makes for a nice gift, and it's small enough to be kept on a keychain. Keychain lights shouldn't be larger than the keys they're attached to.

    The Beta QRV2 can also tail stand if you pull off the quick release end. Also, if you buy the copper version it has a higher output mode with the same high CRI and as it is solid copper, your finish won't wear off. It will patina, but for some that is a plus.

    Im getting both of the Pineapples today, and im aware that it abruptly drops in brightness, but i mostly use low modes anyway, so ive been thinking that i can just increase brightness when this happens. I wonder if its possible to change out the driver with the Dr Jones H17F driver ($17), or maybe Anduril 2.0, or whatever driver the Wuben X-0 uses. As for the Pineapple Mini, im not aware of any drivers that small that can do similar things as the H17F, but it should at least not be difficult to find one that maintains the brightness very steady when using NiMH batteries. Li-Ion batteries tend to gradually drop in brightness (maybe its just the brands of batteries that ZeroAir uses in his reviews that have these characteristics???)...
