For the 4th episode of The Back Lounge Podcast, I had the pleasure of having vocalist Vicky Psarakis of The Agonist & Sicksense back for what will most likely be one of the longest podcasts I ever have. We only spent about 5% of the podcast actually talking about her bands, and the rest was just real, open conversations about a lot of different stuff.

This was fantastic because of the fact that it was more like two mates just hanging out and chatting, rather than being a podcast.
There was a really natural flow that ran throughout this and that puts us as listeners at ease and feeling relaxed too.
I also learned a lot about music making, and recording as well as video making and editing.
And Vicky is amazing and so open and honest which is very refreshing. 🤘🏻🙂

To your comment about a possible genetic predisposition for COVID infections: I'm a clinical laboratory scientist, so this whole pandemic is basically my career field, and I've been following all things related VERY closely. What's recently come out, is a study that showed Vit D deficiency correlated with severe COVID infections. And we all know we don't get enough sunlight, so it's no surprise most of us are deficient. I started supplementing 10k IU/day when I found this out (that's the max daily dose).

I appreciate being able to listen to my favorite artists have real conversations. Vicky’s speaking voice sounds so sweet but she can be very brutal with her harsh vocals. She’s very talented and The Agonist is one of my comfort bands because I discovered them in a moment in my life when music made me feel safe. Also, it surprises me whenever I hear a singer from a metal band is introverted.

Music needs to be shared and due to the pandemic, CZcams reactors have become a bit like the friend you share your music with, listening together and enjoying it. You're a stand-in friend, kind of and it leads to us viewers finding music we never would have found without your reactions. As an added bonus you give some extra info around the music, like some other reactors, which has changed the way I listen to music overall which has led me to rediscover bands I listened to in the 80s and 90s. So thank you Tank and a few other reactors, you've saved music for me!

I love your postcasts, it's so nice to listen to you talking with artists about whatever comes in the conversation. This one didn't feel like it was 3h20, it flew by wery fast.
Regular interviews are a bit boring, always more or less the same questions. Sometimes there is a new and unexpected question and you can see the interviewee's face lit up but unfortunately they are rare.
Can't wait for the next one, keep them coming!

Loving where the conversation has gone. We need to talk about these things if we're ever going to change them in a significant way.
It might be decades (hopefully not centuries) before women can go through life without that layer of needed circumspection on the back of their heads, and before men can get rid of this idea of masculinity that hurts everyone and serves no purpose. But when you think about all the good things it would allow, how that would improve every kind of human relationship, yeah, I'm in, let's go.
Anyway, I was a bit tired of reactions in general (tbf, social media is exhausting), but I'm loving the interviews. You have a talent for connecting with people, and it shows 🤟🏽

I am a 66 year old from Canada and just love your channel. Your interviews with these artists are so insightful. Through your reaction videos as well as other reaction videos I have learned a lot about Metal. Through reaction videos I have fallen in love with the genre and have learned so much about this community especially in my own country that I did not realize existed. I would be the first to admit that there was a certain bias I had about metal that is now gone. I really appreciate your love of this genre, and your enthusiasm has certainly rubbed off on me. I have been delving into Unleash the Archers and just love their music and now I will have to check out The Agonist and Sicksense. Thanks again!

Wow! What a great topic and guest. Look, I never listen to podcasts and this may change that. [The only reason I heard this was because I fell asleep listening to something else and this was on the autoplay. I enjoyed an earlier interview you did, so I had subscribed to support - that put you in my autoplay list I guess. I woke up in the middle of the night hearing this, thinking it was part of a dream where I was listening in on a conversation with a couple of my friends.] This discussion was a revelation. I've been involved in music projects for decades ... this gave me new insight and perspective. Thank you both.

Oklahoma, dude! Started listening to this thinking that I would only check out 10 minutes or so, but just finished the whole thing. This is what I look for in an "interview"/podcast, a loose discussion between two great human beings who've been through stuff and/or know their shit. Loved Vicky's plea against auto tune because I despise it, too. And I love your honesty on all topics while still staying mainly positive. I always say "Nicht jammern, besser machen." because there's just too much complaining without doing something about it. And people need to have fun. Rant over. Thanks to both of you!

Finally sitting down to watch this! To the COVID part of the conversation, I was really pleased to hear you guys say let people do what they want, and talk about the animosity between people. I was nearly kicked out of my house because I chose that I wasn’t going to get the booster, and I was not given that choice. Arch Enemy was my first show since COVID, and it felt the same way, with the exception of the opening band, there was no politics or anything, just people having a wonderful time listening to good music! Vicky seems like such a kind, genuinely fun person to talk to! I was one of those people that genuinely didn’t know that a lot of those playthroughs are pre recorded and mimed. It made me feel so much better as a kid learning guitar. I feel like I’m shit compared to a lot of these guys and it really gives me a confidence boost to see that people aren’t perfect. Every time I see Empuu or another great guitarist mess up live I laugh cause I know they’re just having fun and don’t care if they make a couple mistakes.

Oklahoma. This was a very interesting and entertaining episode. I found the segment just after the 2 hour mark where you were discussing change to be especially interesting. I think people hate change so much because they fear it. A change means venturing into unknown territory. But, you never know…that new territory might be a better place. After all, a band can’t get better without some kind of change.

Yo Tank, loving your content found your channel a week or 2 ago through watching Nik's haging recomended, beginner guitarist self taught just for a hobby but always been a fan of metal music since i was like 9/10 years old (30 now) can honestly say i love the tech aspect you put in i find it so interesting ! Along with all the new music you've put me onto, so much so im actually now as of yest seeing in flames and arch enemy in oct here in uk can't wait!
Won't pretend i still don't fully understand all the sub genre's of metal and what actually makes each that as i listen to a wide variety of metal, but i've learned so much through your vids that even outwith watching them im now doing deep dives and tbh its also helping my guitar playing!
Vicky made some awesome points in this as did you loving the podcasts and literally as vicky said i've got through the first 4 now while being out on the road, im a truck driver here in the uk and these have been perfect for this week!
Love what you do dude, keep it up and don't change yaself all the best to you and the fam, gona be joining into the patreon/discord crew in future 🤘🏻

Also I said I would like to have a coffee with you when you are teching with Electric Callboy, and you said you are super nice to everyone that you meet…..is it too early to say I’m not interested hahahahahahahahaha besides the fact that I am also a guy sorry just had to throw that out there…..by the way “sick beard.” Hahaha Thanks for the great content!!!

About the whole genre change slash going more mainstream, I love a comment i heard from Lars Ulrich about the claims that they were selling out with the black album, and Lars Ulrich said "yeah we sell out, we sell out every fucking stadium play at"

Heard her talking about Skid Row. The former Dragonforce singer, ZP Theart, has actually left the band and was replaced by Erik Grönwall. He is the former singer of H.E.A.T. and a national treasure in Sweden. Has heard him live and he can go as high as Sebastian Bach at times. He's excellent!

Absolutely brilliant podcast. Very enjoyable. I could listening to you both talk all day. The Agonist and Sicksene are awesome bands. Forgotten Days - Sicksense, is one of my favourite songs of the year so far.

I won't lie, After Alissa left The Agonist, I wasn't really a fan of the sound of the band anymore, but honestly hand on my heart, I will honestly love to give the band another listen now, simply because of this podcast and actually feeling like I now have a closer connection with Vicky, and seeing how she is and how down to earth she is, and actually agreeing on a lot of the topics talked about in this podcast. Thank you both for revitilizing my love for music, and the music industry.

As a Follow up, after listening to The Agonist's last 3 albums, I'm 100% fallen back in love with the band. I don't know why I didn't give them another chance. but I'm very VERY happy I did.

I share Tank's love of In Flames from the early 2000s which were also my music formative years. I'm also from Chicagoland and we're roughly the same age. Between the Metro and Vic, I saw them maybe 3-4 times, so I probably bumped into him in the pit more than once. \m/

Is Oklahoma a reference to something?
Interesting and fun podcast. Its a pro for the format and the platform that I don't need to listen to all of it in one take, because this one is a bit long for that in one block, but especially with the chaptermarkings it is easy to pick it up the next day when I have time again.
