Had an aunt and uncle who lived in Livingstone Street after the war visited them many times in the 60's , another uncle lived around the corner in Cleveland Street, reminds me of the scene in The Cruel Sea when Compass Rose returns to the Mersey after an air raid on Liverpool and Birkenhead. Thanks for sharing.

Birkenhead, alongside Liverpool, was the most bombed place outside of London.
    R.I.P

Very interesting - my husband and I just today went to see where his grandad had lived in Brook Street and Arthur street was just over the road
from where he lived back in the day. The devastation looked awful in the photograph it’s amazing to think how local people were so strong during those times. I really enjoyed looking at all the photographs. Thank you for posting.

I have quite a few of the area in Victorian times on my latest video called Birkenhead memories +. But I think it was like this through this country, what them poor people, our ancestors lived through and yet they smiled laughed and got on with things❤️

Totally and I am blessed that I never witnessed this war. Our older generation I have upmost respect for, so brave
