Andrew Haigh also did 'Weekend' which is less traumatic. It touches on some of the same conversations about families and sexualities and is definitely worth watching. I saw All Of Us Strangers in the cinema 3 times. All the performances are good but especially Andrew Scott. I did cry at the café/diner scene and then when Harry asked why nobody found him. That moment has stuck with me because he's so vulnerable and hurt in that moment. I also think Jamie Bell is underrated and he was great here and in Rocketman. He's good at understated emotion. Quick edit to say I'm glad you're doing the extended Lord of the Rings. Those films are amazing.

Paul Mescal made this film imo. I love the whole cast, but Paul stood out for me. Even his throwaway lines have deep meanings.
Weekend is amazing! I’ve watched it so many times I almost have it memorized, per verbatim!!

After watching the movie thru again, I’ve decided to believe it was all a hallucination as Adam’s building is burning down (the alarm at the very start, his coughing fits, he feels hot all the time, club/siren lights, etc)
Granted, this theory is partly motivated by self preservation, because any other interpretation I come up with is too heartbreaking for me to bear 💔

I thought that too but adam is alive, andrew haigh has said he was, i now think the flashing lights were his memories of the police car coming to the door the night his parents were killed xx

I believe the same thing. Not only was Harry a ghost/spirit but Adam was as well. That is why at the end of the film the two of them go off into the Light together. In the opening scene of the film, however, the building itself is consumed in the Light. The place their spirits met. So yes, I too believe their deaths occurred the night the building caught fire.

This film is heartbreaking but beautiful. Try Shelter, 2007, for an uplifting LGBTQ film.

The scene’s in his mom and dad’s house is the actual, real house Andrew Haigh grew up in. Paul Mescal was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA’s.The film was just released way too late. It only opened in the US at one theater in Los Angeles, one theater in New York and one small theater here in Dallas. It was screened at Telluride and it got great press, but they released it too late for Oscar consideration. I KNOW it would have been nominated in about four categories.
Yes, you were right. Harry’s last attempt to stay alive was at Adam’s door. It was the last time he was alive. The second time Harry was at Adam’s, Adam asked him if he wanted a drink and he says, “No. I gave that up.” That was your big hint that he was dead.
So the ending shot has Harry being held by Adam, but in the exact same position he was in when he passed away. And did you notice that Adam died, too?
Harry & Adam leave this world as a single star because they were soulmates. That’s why his mom really wanted Adam to try to make it with Harry… they knew he was dead, too or they could not have seen each other in the door.
The only ones in the high rise building that they were in was them, and they could see only each other outside the window. Do you realize how many gay (not queer) people feel so alone and when they are with people, they’d rather be alone. It’s an endless cycle. Depression is not an easy thing to live with… I ought to know.

This is a very interesting film but not what I was expecting either. I didn’t realize Andrew Haigh created “Weekend” - a great film I’ve watched many, many times. I’m an older gay man so I remember when LGBTQ characters were always sad people who usually ended up committing suicide or getting murdered. It’s been a long struggle to improve how LGBTQ people were depicted. Now that we’ve gone more mainstream, I guess there has to be room for a wide range of queer characters. Still, this movie makes me slightly uncomfortable with its return to sad queers living sad lives (and even committing suicide). So I like the film, it’s beautifully filmed and the acting is great, but it makes me a little uncomfortable.

This is a great movie, but a very hard watch. Now we need a palate cleanser. How about BEAUTIFUL THING or GET REAL or TRICK or LILIES (well, Lilies isn't quite a palate cleanser, but the 1st three are).

@@AudsVids I'm so glad you love those 3. Jamie and Ste is the same for me. Lilies I think you will like. It is very inventive and a great story. Not the easiest film to find, but a really spectacular film (but definitely not a feel-good movie like Beautiful Thing).
