The Elgar Cello Concerto is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I decided to make a stupid video discussing a dilemma I have about performing it on viola. Enjoy!

@@bruin9354imslp for everything that's public domain, they have so much music it's awesome. Anything not public domain.....I have my ways of finding things, but for legal reasons probably can't mention here😂
I think you're right that pushing it to its limit makes for a more dramatic story. Even more so since the viola is usually not the challenged instrument. Go for the gold!
It is nice on viola, but it was conceptualized as a cello piece. The cello cuts right through orchestra during the last slow section of the piece in the last movement. It does quite cry like cello.
I agree, it certainly is best on cello; I'm just jealous of it because it's such a gorgeous piece and I really want to play it even though I can't play cello

I have listen to both the double bass and viola playing Elgars cello concerto and it is more than just chrystal clear that these are very underutilised instruments as solo instruments. Anyway, I hope you have listen to Widmanns viola concerto.
I agree; I haven't heard of the Widmann concerto, I'll have to check it out!
