Long Distance Casting Facts

- Long-distance casting is a true test of skill and precision in fishing. It's not just about brute strength-it's about technique, the right equipment, and perfect timing. Anglers use specialized rods and reels to launch their lures far out into the water, reaching spots where the biggest fish often hide. The world record for the longest cast is an astonishing 939 feet, set by Danny Moeskops. Achieving such distances requires a perfect blend of power and finesse, turning fishing into a showcase of skill and mastery

As a scuba diver, the fish are straight down by the columns.
Yes and no. Lots of smaller fish by the piers/jettis for sure. But for larger surf fishing you need to be able to get your bait out past the 2nd sandbar, and get in a trough, preferrably at incoming tide. It can be a challenge to cast that far, but unlike this BS narrator states, it's almost entirely equipment based. It's not hard to cast a spinning rod far when you have the correct rod/reel/line/weight combination.

It's so wild how the system you were initially programmed with is the one that you form your ideas around. I can visualize instantly the 900++ feet. When I think of meters, I convert them into yards it is a flawed system for sure.

My man gonna catch the moon tonight.😂
That's called a pendulum cast, and it's not normal to do it with a Fixed-Spool reel (the one which he is using). Most pendulum caster's use a large Beachcaster with a multiplier reel (with the line-leader removed). This allows the reel to fly as far as you can cast, although it is quite a tricky action and as an angler myself, i have yet to master it. The people who use this type of casting are:
- British Sea Anglers
- South African Sea Anglers
- Portuguese Sea Anglers
- Spanish Sea Anglers
- Mediterranean Sea Anglers
&
- Australian Sea Anglers.
Hope this helps people learn something new! 😁🎣
For reel!
My old man used to have a beach caster, he used to whack it out a good 300 yards. I used to think it was normal to cast that far, we used to go to bexington beach in the south west and sea fish. You could feather for mackerel, or if you could get out the shelves you could chuck some bait out and look for bass.
It was only when we went to West Bay and other areas in the day that everyone made a massive deal about how far he was casting.
Rip old man. I miss those days.
