Dushman was a brilliant film, with brilliant performances by Kajol, Ashutosh and Sanju, and like Kajol even I really loved the love story between her and Sanju! Really good chemistry!
Alot of Kajols best performances are the films without Shahrukh. I love their films together but Kajol is something else by herself.

All these people wanting all these movies to be "politically correct" "intelligent" "realistic" just really don't understand cinema, or in my opinion what they want! So many of the legendary/classic films that exist not only in Bollywood but across cinema give you a look into a magical world where you are entering a different world, but Bollywood knew how to set it in reality. The industry is at such a low point in today's age & it's for this reason. People whine and complain that we haven't been showing realistic problems and such in our films, so that means they are behind/bad. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is as successful as it is because it blended that magic with the reality of the lives of everyday Indian culture. Nowadays it's either we get a "Social Commentary" film that leaves you depressed for weeks, or a super high fanatical film that isn't the least bit believable. Then filmmakers use the excuse that we are past such movies & that they just don't want to make movies like that anymore. However when they try, they fail miserably.

She was outspoken, but as a grown up I refuse to follow and agree with these shallow people and have grown up to understand the difference between image and reality. When they showed the montage in the beginning and then cut to this interview, I was heartbroken to see how much she's bleached her skin. Very sad.

For me, the films that showed Kajol's true talent are the films without SRK; Gupt, Dushman, Fanaa and U Me ur Hum. She should have widened out, improved on her skills and done more films with other heroes apart from SRK and Ajay D. I still remember how shocked I was that she and Aamir Khan had so much chemistry in Fanaa. Even she and Salman made a really good pair in KKHH even though her character ended up with SRK. It's not too late for her though. She has to focus on improving her skills, choosing better scripts and not take things for granted.
She was great in DDLJ, and I believe if anyone else had been paired with SRK in that film, it wouldn't have become such a classic.
Also, in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (from a total tomboy to a more feminine and mature Anjali, equally convincing in both roles of the SAME character in the SAME film)
In K3G, although her character may have been a bit too loud and over the top, she executed it perfectly because that is what the character required. Can you imagine anyone else doing the role of Anjali? I don't think I can.
In Fanaa, she was good too.
SRK is, no doubt, very successful but I think Kajol as an actress brings out a new facade to his screen presence that not many other actresses have managed to do.
Lastly, Kajol's screen presence is something spectacular. Her very small cameos in some songs, such as ''Disco Diwane'' from SOTY, ''Rock n Roll Soniye'' from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna & ''Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte'' from Rab Ne Bana di Jodi make many replay just the part she is in and I think that tells quite a bit about her screen presence.
Yes, her acting in Eela was disappointing and seemed to just replicate her previous characters' nuances however I do think with better direction and taking her work more seriously, she will impress the audience once again. Yes, she is not that versatile and always chooses the more comfortable roles for herself, but she is inherently very good (as proven by her previous work) at what she does.
In terms of looks, with her dusky skin, unibrow, healthy and realistic looking body and modest dressing,
she reshaped to a certain extent what a quintessential Bollywood actress could and can look like, making people also relate to her just by the way she looks.

She is an extremely overrated actor. Hyped no end. Should learn to b less animated during interviews atleast. Always over the top. Listening to her can be jarring.

You are bloody wrong. Check out Kajols filmography, alot of her films are content based (Dil Kya Kare, Gupt, U Me Aur Hum, Dushman, Fanaa, We Are Family, Gundaraj, MNIK, Baazigar, Karan Arjun, and yeah even DDLJ. Obviously you have not watched most of these movies..

I would add Udhaar Ki Zindagi to the list. I think it was her first true author-backed role. The film itself was average, but Kajol was phenomenal, considering she was just a couple of years into acting ...
See the original movie "seetharamayya gari manamaraaalu" her role was played by a newcomer meena.. She nailed it and the movie is a classic... The remake was jus very bad

I genuinely want to know why Kajol felt the need/pressure to change her skin colour since she was one of the few popular dark-skinned 90s actresses in Bollywood? It's a shame because that's what made her even more relatable- representing majority of Indians who are not light-skinned at all.

@Priya K If rumours are to be believed, it all started with Ajay's affair with Kangana. The timing seems to match as the affair was around 2010-2011 (during the time of once upon a time in mumbai) and that's when it all started for Kajol. It's sad and depressing. Besides, the two movies she has done after that (Dilwale and Eela) were awful, and she apparently rejected Kahaani 2 for Diwale. Sigh!

@@rajdeepchadha4155 she was mindblowing in krissh 3 . im not into supernatural scifi type movies but i gave it a shot and she completely stole the show from the lead pc. its amazing how she added human emotions to a character who is nothing but a mutant n kicked ass too. one her underrated roles for sure!
