MS 70 Silver Eagles - The Worst Silver Purchase I Have Ever Made

  • In this video I talk about what is perhaps the worst silver purchase I have ever made. I talk about how I purchased these slabbed ms 70 american silver eagles for over double spot and how crazy that is! These are incredibly over priced for silver bullion and are not for stacking. These ms 70 silver eagle coins are for collecting only. I do give some tips on silver stacking and silver stacking advice throughout the video as well. I am going to be collecting these ms70 first strike american silver eagles for my own personal collection moving forward because I like them. I do like the PCGS slabs so that is why I decided on these for my ms70 eagles. I plan on picking up one every year moving forward. The reason that I say this is the worst silver purchase I have ever made is because these coins have a higher premium than I have ever paid for silver coins before.

I don't want to waste my time or money but since 2020 is the last year for the ASE design I wanted to make a complete set.. I try to pick up one of each from each mint every year. I also snag the special edition Silver Eagles like the Pride of Two Nations Proof Set with the Silver Eagle and Maple Leaf coins as a graded matched set. I plan on adding PCGS graded Gold Eagles soon. If nothing else, when I die my kids will inherit one heck of a collection and they can do what they want with them. Remember, scarcity is the name of the game in any collectible piece. 2021 Silver eagles in Type 1 and Type 2 in both proof and uncirculated are a good "long hold" slabs. This year has been phenominal with the US Mint (not happy with the outrageous premiums) that has released several collectibles. I personally have two stacks: 1. Numismatics 2. Buillion (low premiums)........I buy buillions with the profits that by flipping some of my numismatics. Wash, rinse, repeat!

    Nothing wrong with buying things that you like for your collection. I have one MS70 slabbed silver eagle and one PF70 slabbed proof eagle. I got them just because I wanted an example of perfect UNC and a perfect Proof eagle for my collection. My bullion eagles, which I'm sure would almost all grade MS69 or 70 if I sent them in, are just kept raw in the mint tubes. I don't even bother putting them in capsules. As for the premium you paid, well I think PNC or NGC charges at least $20 per coin, even for their bulk economy service, so there you have it. Good video.

    Gotta love those Milk Spot collectors! I'd just buy an ungraded Silver Eagle as close to melt as possible and chances are it's a 69. I just don't understand the draw of a first strike label or a 70 grade. I'd pay $5-6 for the grade and the holder which isn't economically rational since it's more than that to get them graded even in bulk.

    I just decided to collect the MS70 DCAM series of silver eagle proofs for their shiny coolness. Then I saw the price for the 1995 MS70 DCAM (at auction it's $13K right now). It's cause there's only like 1700 of that year graded at that level. This was due to the coin coming only in a gold collectors set as a freebie and the mint only sold something like 100,000 of the sets.

    • @derekspalding3091
      @derekspalding3091 Před 3 lety

      most of that set range in the price of $50-300 so not the most one can spend on a collectors coin.

    Similar situation I paid what is now double spot for a NGC MS69 Australian One oz silver "Roo" but I only got one of those instead of four. Speaking of which, the grading companies should never grade bullion as "MS" as bullion should be a separate category. It should be BU70 as "BU" would be designated as bullion.

    To have a coin graded by PCGS or NGC is between $30 and $50 dollars alone. So if you paid a little over $30 bucks aka double spot price you got a deal. Look at the graders website and you will see what they actually charge per coin.
