I also am not a Christian but love to wear skirts and vintage dresses. I don’t know about modesty but I like the way skirts promote femininity.
I also am a non Christian and I always have loved long flowing skirts and dresses. I prefer ankle length or floor length because I can wear either flats or heels and not have to worry about anything showing in public. Yes I am modest for the most part, but I do love my mid thigh shorts as well. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us. Much love from Utah.

The LORD led me to wear dresses and skirts when I got saved in 1975, I was 21. He also led me to leave off my make up which was very little and let my hair grow. I worked at a local hospital about 16 years and our unit got a new dress code which was yellow scrub top, black jacket and black pants. I had all these years wore skirts and my manager said it was a mandatory order from the nurse manager and I told her my wearing skirts was a direct order from my head quarters. I said there were other people in the hospital that wore different apparel according to their faith and I should be allowed the same courtesy. She said she would relay my request. The answer was this, the nurse manager not only allowed me to wear skirts but he said he would pay for any extra pants I needed to turn them into skirts, which I had my own pattern to do so. GOD changed that mans heart and he was very firm and never changed his mind about policies, but GOD can change peoples hearts and minds. You are an inspiration to many people, GOD Bless You !!!

I only wear dresses and skirts.They are just more comfortable than pants. I maybe wear pants 3 times a year if I have to do something outside that a dress just won't work. It's just what I Iike to wear. .. I would never wear pants to church meetings...
I think I have about 20 floor length prairie skirts in prints and solids, denim and lighter weight cottons. Combined with my bloomers and t shirts, my husband call the look "farm chic". I make my bloomers from a pj pattern, shorten the legs about 6" with a drawstring in the leg hems to snug them if needed. Everytime we go shopping and see women in leggings, leaving nothing obscured, I pray they wise up and become more modest.

I agree with you completely. When I kept seeing young women in the choir (without robes) in the church we used to go to wearing leggings and short tops it really upset me. The comments from the pulpit was to dress modistly but nothing was allowed to go any further than that. A lot of those young women believe that they're covered therefore they are modest - a lot of the younger generation has no idea and no one is teaching most.

I have been thinking of more of a bloomer type pants for under my skirts instead of my homemade leggings (though I find them the most comfortable so far). The bloomers would be more modest yet for when needing to climb ladders and such.

I'm slowly getting more skirts to wear. I've been convicted about this for a while, but I do not have enough for everyday. I love the longer style because they are comfortable and modest. I'm older and didn't learn to sew when I should have so I'm not advanced enough to make my own, but I'm working on getting there. My sisters and I wore full, floor length skirts 24/7 when we were younger (I still do to this day). We did all the farm type chores every day and even broke all our mammoth donkeys, mules and steers in them. We trained the mules and donkeys to pull wagons and logs and plows. We taught them how to rope and herd small livestock and do barrel racing. We trained them to race and participate in show jumping. All in skirts, every day, all day. Never flashed anyone, never had any more issues than anyone else in jeans would. It was so fun and so feminine the whole time. Thank you for making this video. What a blessing and so God-honouring!!
I’m a skirt wearing Homesteader also. I’m much more comfortable in a skirt. I enjoy the freedom of movement in what ever I do on the Homestead while wearing a skirt. I can’t imagine wearing anything else - modesty is important to me for so many reasons. Blessings to you for sharing this video.

Because of you, last night I finished a 4 tiered skirt out of an old sheet and old is plaid dress shirts my husband was going to donate. I wore it all day today and loved it. I will make more and plan on getting more fabric from garage sales/ thrift stores. I see the waste and so proud of myself that I can do it.
I agree. I love love long full skirts! Like you said they are soooo comfortable and I feel less restricted. Also in hot humid summers it really helps keep you cooler. Everybody else is showing skin and complaining bout being hot and I'm like duh you are wearing resticting clothes and running around half-naked exposing your self to the heat. Loose cotton clothing is the way to go. I love how you said you don't want to dress like your on the market. Love it!
They are certainly MUCH cooler in the summer, I have found them cooler than when I use to wear my baggy overall shorts because they also keep the legs shaded from the hot sun!
From a biblical perspective I would say the long dresses and skirts a reminder of the Burnt offering from the time of Adam and Eve that God clothed them with, the modest clothing protects them from effects like heat of the consuming fire we call the sun. When I wear my tunic I feel more spiritually powerful and perhaps it's because it's a reminder of the burnt offering that Christ is covering me with.

I, too, wear skirts all the time, wear tops that cover at least my elbows, cover my clavicle. Mostly only show my hands, lower arms, and face - due to conviction for modesty.
I do this as a medical professional and when working my mini-homestead.
I also totally cover my hair with tied scarves (wrapunzel.com has been a great inspiration) or opaque snoods.
Love hearing someone else talk about modesty.
Remembering that modesty is about a Whole lot more than what one wears ;)

I also am a Christian Jew, however it amazes me how people read the English word modest and think it means modern fashions without taking time and to research exactly what the original Greek word was. Modest comes from a Greek word which means "long and flowing". So that does away with tight, form fitted, and slinky skirts that reveals a ladies body. In the book of Deuteronmy 22:5 already tells us a woman is not supposed to wear that which pertains to a man... and vice versa. So this let's us know that men and women are to have separate styles of dressing. How simple that is to follow. No way to get to Heaven except follow the road map to Heaven which is none other than the King James Holy Bible, God's Word.

Love this challenge! I know it is an older video but I have worn only skirts/dresses/modest culottes that look like a skirt for the past 26 years and it has never stopped me from doing a garden or household task. When I taught my girls about modesty, I told my girls that if it can't be done in a skirt, I probably shouldn't be doing it. I was excited to find other modesty conscious youtubers!

Skirts! I wore mostly pants, some skirts until I was 42. Then, for the last 6 years, skirts and dresses only.
Doing ALL jobs...hauling wood AND water, clearing brush, livestock, burning trash, doing laundry at a creek;)
I would never go back and could write a book (lol) on how much it has affected my feminity and those around me . It has been a BLESSING.
I will say, for those hard and messy jobs, an old skirt or one found at Goodwill, etc allow you to not be so concerned about ruining them. This has helped me tackle everything in skirts.

Thank you for this! Yes, immodesty is rampant in the modern churches! I used to be one of those ladies thinking I was all good because I did not wear skirts quite as short as that lady over there who was on the church board. Because these things are no longer taught in the church and by nature we live comparatively to others, this will only continue to get worse until pastors start preaching the WHOLE Bible and ladies stop comparing themselves to others and read the word for themselves.

Awesome. I agree it changes a woman into a beautiful lady if she chooses to wear skirts and dresses daily, her countenance grows over time. One young lady that Embraced long dresses and skirts said she felt more self-respect and self-worth dressing modestly, and her friends are starting to wear more dresses and skirts.

Amazing job! I started wearing skirts more now because of this video about six months ago. Going up stairs took getting used to. Much love. I just got a sewing machine working that was a gift from my Mother in Law. A beautiful 1950's vintage SINGER that sews amazing. This is such an inspiration to me. Thanks.

I am loving your videos of making the skirts and reasoning behind them. I have been wanting to get more into wearing skirts. I have never been one to wear them but I do like the concept and belief. My 19 yr old SN daughter loves skirts. I do wish I could have set a better example for my 23 yr old daughter but at least I can still mold my 6 yr old. I just have to tackle trying to sew one. I sewed in high school and did a quilt with my grandmas when I was in college…25 years ago 🤦🏼♀️ thank you for giving me the understanding on how to sew one. May God continue to bless you. I think this culture NEEDS an opposite to the forced movie/star culture "unclothing". I consider myself fairly liberal and am so against forced dress code (long story) but what we call clothes today..... hotpants are almost modest compared to the trend 😉
I have come to love skirts, long skirts! They are cool in summer and much warmer in colder weather than I thought. I love my jeans, but am glad I didn't get new ones, got 2 skirts instead 😊 and yes, here and there I trip going upstairs, but have not fallen yet!

Heidi, while not everyone will agree with your beliefs/convictions, I appreciate the gentle manner with which you handle subjects that could cause controversy and strong feelings. Your lack of "judgementalism" is refreshing. While I know that this is a very unusual happening, there was a girl at my school whose full skirt was blown/sucked into the auger of a farm machine and it pulled her in. A very tragic loss! Again, thank you for sharing in a kind way.
When i was a child i LOVED long, flowing prairie style skirts. Now I am a jeans-only woman, living and working in a man's world. But i'm finding myself drawn once again to the long skirt. And your patchwork skirts are BEAUTIFUL! I realize this is an old video and you may never see this comment. But if you do, thank you for helping me re-connect with a part of me that i have been missing. I will be studying your videos to learn how to make my own.
I have a little different take. I wear both now. I was raised in skirts by a non-Christian Mom whose girl was "going to look like a girl". I appreciate that more than my Mother could ever know. I am comfortable in them - always - because of her. Fast forward to raising our children. We became very legalistic and skirts and dresses were all I wore or allowed my daughter to wear. For God. I made all of our jumpers and most skirts. I have completely turned my back on that legalism and the pride and fear and anger that come with it. I find that skirts can be very dangerous on ladders, doing some chores, etc... not to mention very immodest depending on the chore. The more modest the skirt (full) , the more dangerous - depending on the chore. Some chores - skirts are ok, some they are dangerous. I appreciate you pointing out modesty, choosing what you want to wear without having to be trendy, and the call to women to be women. I love being a woman. I love being feminine. I do not want to dress like I am on the market. I will continue to wear both. (p.s. my husband is a red blooded, precious, Christian man who says - "even if a woman walks in front of a guy half naked, it is up to the GUY how he responds." This is NOT to say immodesty is ok but to say "Men, man up. Don't blame clothing for your lust and lack of self control.") Thank you for all of your EXCELLENT content - I am loving your videos!!!
I appreciate your comment. I was raised mostly wearing pants, but a few years ago I felt convicted to wear skirts and headcoverings, so I did, and started going to a more conservative church, which I felt reflected my beliefs. Towards the end of the first year, I began to feel a chafing in my heart. Largely due to the legalism of the community around me. I felt that people were so focused on the outward appearance that it became a bondage thing instead of a heartfelt act of love.
And then I needed to recover from a major surgery, so I had to wear soft, knee length shorts so I could lay on my bed most of the time. Laying down wearing a skirt with your feet towards a stand fan does not work, obviously. (I'm in a tropical country)
So, I try to dress modestly, but not in only skirts.
I love wearing skirts! I can do ALL my chores in a modest skirt. This includes barn chores from feeding the animals to milking my sweet jersey cow, and many other things that need doing, all in a skirt. The most challenging is climbing the loft ladder to throw down hay. If no one else is around its not a problem. If my teenage son is helping in the barn he throws down hay. Here in the Deep South a flowing skirt is SO much cooler than a pair of jeans when working in the garden. Thanks Heidi for being such an example of a proverbs 31 woman. I also wish I had set a better example when I was younger. I also wish more pastors would teach about true modesty. The clothing (or lack of) some girls and sometimes their mamas wear to God's house is indecent and shows a worldliness and lack of respect to the holiness of our Father God. God bless y'all 😀

Rain Country so sad. There was a time when people honored God in his house and dressed respectfully as best they could. So many churches are just entertainment centers now. Not much bible preaching anymore.
I wish pastors taught about modesty. I’ve never seen any pastor of my churches I’ve attended to preach it, and. Quite honestly their daughters do NOT dress modestly either.👎
I'm just starting this journey of redoing the way I think about my wardrobe, and my body for that matter. I have two completed skirts and a denim skirt in progress. It was nearly done when I felt it was too bulky, so I'm figuring out how to open the front and take out some panels, with the plan to add buttons down the front. I made the mistake of using different weights of denim, so it doesn't flow very well, so even if I totally mess it up, I'll chalk it up as a great learning experience. Heidi, you've given me inspiration. I appreciate that you're not hiding your faith and convictions. Thank you for these videos!

I have slightly different views on this topic but I love your wisdom and your heart. I except your challenge.
I think the Holy Spirit works on us all differently. If there’s two women want to buy a new purse, the Holt Spirit for one woman may impart, “No, I’ve given you enough. You shouldn’t spend here.” For another He may suggest, “You need the purse. Trust me that I can provide for you. Go ahead and get it.” It’s all in how in walking in the Spirit.

I am a Christian and I do believe in modest dress. In the past two yrs I have been convicted to wear skirts. Like you said the Lord worked on me about it for yrs. I'm glad I finally gave in. Once you do they are not hard to wear at all. You diffently have my style. Love the prairie skirts. This well be an easy way to make them thanks for sharing

Thank you so much for sharing Heidi. I told my hubby months ago that I'm going to get away from any pants and go strictly skirts. He had no response, whatever I want to do is fine with him. I have gone to skirts when we go out anywhere but at home it's still usually sweats. My real prob lem that you pinpointed is my skirts are too nice to chance staining working in this clay. I need to get out that sewing machine (ugh!!!) and make a few sheet skirts to wear around the house. There's no denying that they would be a lot more comfortable in the summer than the sweats I usually wear or shorts that most wear (even if it wasn't the modesty issue with shorts they are confining on the torso and one can move much more freely in a skirt.

There are great photos of Tasha Tudor on the net wearing skirts as she mucks out the animal stalls. She did everything in a skirt. You are both inspirational.
Heidi your skirts are in such great demand, because you are so good at coming up with color and pattern combinations. And those of us that wear them out, get comments, because they are not just attractive, but different. As much as I love mine, I sometimes feel self conscious in them. But that is just me. I felt self conscious when my twins were babies and I went out. We drew a lot of attention. lolAND you did great talking about wearing skirts and why you do. Nothing about it sounded like you were judging anyone.I would love to hear your testimony on the calling to wear skirts for the purpose of modesty. I’ve always worn skirts and done every activity in them from hiking to swimming to sports, I wear them to my ankle with no splits. I got a new job recently where all the employees wear pants, I asked the hiring manager if I could wear a skirt and I’d brought a few to show him. He said as long as they looked nice with no rips, holes ect I was free to wear them. I’m the only one who wears a skirt at work and customers compliment me all the time. To protect my legs when hiking on my boyfriend’s farm I wear a pair of jeans under my skirts to protect from the burs and thorns. Love all your videos, thank you for sharing, it’s amazing how God moves in our lives when we follow Him!

Hi, Heidi, I just found your channel about 2 weeks ago,probably because I'm a sewer and fabric-o-holic. I watched your comfort top video and was intrigued( It is on my list to make one or several)especially about your sewing machine looking very modern and it being a treadle, I looked it up from the Amazon link!!!! I had no idea they exsisted( brand new ,I mean) I collect old , vintage sewing machines. Yes, I am taking the challenge, during pandemic I wore jeans and t-shirts( I retired early a few months before) and by last fall 2021, I am tired of that look, I worked in an Alteration shop for 36 years and mainly wore dresses ,skirts , sometimes nice pants outfits. I am missing wearing my clothes( I have a difficult time parting with clothes) I am also Christian and the idea that women ,Females, rarely wear dresses has bothered me, thank you for speaking from your heart. ...P.S ..I use to square dance and I have a few of that type of skirts, only shorter, I will definitely start wearing them, and also sewing a longer version( which i have always wanted to sew) from my stash of fabrics....
I LOVE wearing skirts!!! During the summer months thats all i wear! I have quite buying shorts. I have bought my last 3 skirts at a Salvation Army store. I feel so free and much more comfortable. Another aspect I wasn’t expecting is that my husband likes me wearing skirts. I have some that are knee length and a couple that are mid calf length. I work outside of the home right now so my skirts change to skirts that i can work in that have pockets. I la la love them!

I was a skirt wearing woman for many years until the doctor said (due to a bone disease) no bicycle, no long skirts, nothing that could be a tripping hazard. so, recently I've decided to go back to wearing my long skirts. I rarely tripped while I was wearing them before so I think it will be just fine. It's good that you are encouraging other women to wear skirts. I truly love this style of skirt. I have so much fabric I bought years ago and just recently got some of it out to make a few skirts. I decided I would add some of my youngest sons jeans to it. He passed away 2 1/2 years ago. Thank you for your wonderful ideas.

I am sorry about your son, I love the idea of using his jeans for that. I made a jean skirt and used pockets of recycled jeans and placed them all around the skirt, it made for a very fun and functional skirt.

Thank you so much, Heidi! I have been struggling with this issue for a few years now. Watching this video has challenged me to really re-examine my wardrobe and my mindset about what I wear and yes, to set aside my trousers! I have alopecia universalis (basically no hair at all on my body) so I find skirts/dresses are even more necessary to define me as a woman, if that makes sense. My biggest challenge is wearing skirts in the cold, snowy winter months. Thanks be to God for you and for your brave testimony. I know that the internet can be a vicious space :(
I don't believe I mentioned it in this video but I do make my own leggings for wearing under my skirts. I make them out of cotton knit or cotton thermal knit and have a video on that too. I wear them most of the year round, even on warm days. We rarely have hot enough weather for me to feel I can't wear them because long skirts are surprisingly cool as they shade and allow air flow :D Thank you for your kind words and yes, some people get pretty angry about anything to do with my faith or wearing skirts. The funny thing is it is often fellow believers that get the most angry about my choice to wear skirts, which is weird
I wear skirts all the time and have for many years. I think like you on the modesty issue. This is important for older ladies too, because our figures usually do not improve with age. I won’t encourage lust anymore but I don’t want to stir up disgust either 😁 We live way up north where the winters are long and cold, but with warm leggings underneath I’m warm when we go out.
I know this is an older video but it’s encouraging to see that you wear skirts on your property doing farm/garden work. Many homesteaders have done videos on what to wear on the land but it’s very manly clothing. I was beginning to think dressing in my skirts living on property was a fanciful dream. I understand that I will need hardier materials and colors don’t show dirt. Just nice to hear that it can be done.
:) I have come up with different tricks along the way to stay modest but keep the skirt from being stepped on or caught on things. One thing I do is pick up a front edge and then wrap the skirt around my hips and tuck into the back of the waistband. I still stay fully covered, just looks long a long wrap skirt

Modesty is the question that intrigued me the most in my conversion.
How and why?
Brought up Christian, it was not visible (back in the 1980s) in the women around me.
Since last year, I have been researching european long skirt traditions.
I found many answers to questions, such as scarlet under skirts worn during a woman's monthly time, to bloomers and how they had splits in them, to long straps sewn into the waist on the inside, that were used to "pick up" the skirt when the hands were full.
These straps had button holes at the end. The buttons were sewn to the outside of the waistband.
The working woman would the find the strap (which was as long as her calf) pull it up catching the folds and attaching it to the button.
I don't know if this makes sense?
I also discovered the use of the shawl.
(In hinduism, most outfits have at least some length of fabric somewhere).
The shawl in europe was for modesty (crossed over the bust) , to breast feeding discreetly, and also to keep drafts and cold off the stomach and kidneys.
(A decent sized scarf/shawl would be below the waist when on the shoulders, often attached with a belt to keep it in place).
At times two shawls would be worn, with one covering the hips.
Now in Hinduism, I see the same features and reasons coming up.
The belts for the sarees and the large rectangles of fabric, wrapped over the body.
Much is lost in modern fashion as to WHY women had these specific garments.
I grew up in Africa and remember babies being strapped to women's backs (something I seldom now see among the young generation here in Africa).
Modern technology has designed baby carriers.
For my children, back in the 90s, I used a style of cloth used in Thailand, to carry my children. It's very long and goes across on shoulder.
It has so many functions and is a traditional way of carrying children.

I also hope that younger women will understand (and not learn the hard way like I did) that modesty also attracts a different sort of man. The type one would want for the many decades ahead.)
(A side note. I also discovered that women, due to long skirts, also had a different sort of stool for their toilet.it was a long bench, unlike the modern western toilet seat, that doesn't cater for so much fabric.
We have lost so much wisdom over just one century.

I was wearing full length dresses and throwing a sweater or tshirt over them because I'm not comfortable with my arms completely uncovered and even a cap sleeve makes me more comfortable. but various issues made wearing a bra painful no matteer what style I tried and during the pandemic I realized, if I'm wearing a full length dress that's a dark color and something else usually thick and dark over it, then I can still be modest without the bra and pain and mobility issues resolved. Well, those dresses are starting to wear and the closest thing to them in the stores would stop above my knees instead of my ankles at which point, I'd rather wear pants and have the skin covered. So I started looking for other options and some women who make their own clothes (not a skill I have) and talk about history on youtube, were talking about how well wearing linen is and why women wore chemises. so, I've been experimenting. I have chemises with sleeves ranging from wrists to sleeveless and lots of spots in between, I choose the shorter sleeved ones for cooking turkey but otherwise like the longer for day. If I choose a dark colored chemise, it's just as concealing as my dresses before and I'll wear it that way for sleep or chores in the house. But when I head out, I put a dress over it, that dress doesn't have sleeves so the sleeves of the chemise becomes it's sleeves, the dress has long pockets, and nice details (the reason it sometimes isn't worn at home with chores). I have found that wearing these layers, I can step outside for the mail without a coat or with just a shawl, which I couldn't do this time of year in my previous clothing choices, and yet in the summer it's not super hot to have the layers. I would like to get a quilted petticoat for under the skirt during extended outside winter time. I've learned that wearing linen to bed allows me to wake up dry, instead of in a puddle from hot flashes. I've also learned that while many shawls that I have will keep me warmer, a casmere one seems to help temperature regulation warming or cooling as needed. Wearing essentially 2 layers of full length dress, I'm not sweating in the outer layer which needs more delicate wash, and when the outer layer gets dirty, unless the hem went through something mucky it's mostly a dust that I can shake off. mixing and matching sleeves and outerdress makes me feel like I'm never wearing the same dress and even my Drs are complimenting my dresses (not to stereotype but men don't usually notice these things). Many of the overdresses that I'm wearing have strings in the back to adjust their size, going to the bathroom, I grab the chemise/underskirt and lift it high enough that I can get the overskirt and all it's pieces to lay within the underskirt (like if you were using an apron to hold veggies coming from the garden), then with the underskirt folded up, I pull the fabric towards the front and if it's long enough tuck the tail into the neck of the top, if not hold the fabric in a big ball. Once I drop that tail of fabric, it usually all falls and lays properly. I remember travelling with my grandmother in the 80's and saw a public restroom where half of the toilets were different and my grandmother said they were for women with skirts, they weren't benchlike, they were narrower and I still can't figure out how someone would use those unless they didn't have underware, or unless it had splits. I did get a skirt that has 2 slits that can be closed to mid calf or can open all the way to the waistband, I wear pants under them and open the slits to just above my knees for maximum movement and still modest, I wore them bowling so that I wouldn't have to lift an ankle length skirt to avoid stepping on it.

I have been sewing and sewing since finding this wonderful Rain Country channel.
I drafted a bodice (YT helped there too, and I was in needlework collage 37 years ago).
I attached my skirts to the bodice so it is a dress.
Underneath I wear a teeshirt but had been thinking about attaching a skirt to the teeshirt.
I experimented and cut up a XXXL teeshirt and sewed it to the bottom on another teeshirt, basically making a dress.
The idea of linen is even better, so will add that too my shopping list (I found a fabric warehouse where the price is slashed if one buys 50 meter rolls. Which just to make 3 dresses, I will need.)
I have been having so much fun. Each test dress (as they are not yet perfect) is showing me where to "tweek" the pattern.
I want to use only 100% natural fabrics because of fire.
Gas stoves in the kitchen mean that non-natural fibres not only melt, they can burst into flames and are extremely dangerous.
Most clothes with plastic carry a label that says "keep away from flames.".
Not possible in a kitchen.
I am 54 and yes, have noticed my sleep is different. My doctor prescribed Evening Primrose tablets and it makes a difference in my opinion.
One other bonus of the long skirts are the flies.
I live in a farming community and flies are everywhere. With the skirts, they don't settle on my legs (like before) and bite.
For now, I am using what fabric my mom has in the house, and will go to the warehouse again when New Year is over.
I did buy 4 meters of a cotton and am delighted with the result. So I will buy a roll next time.

I have started wearing Lee Rider brand Skorts these past few years. I’m 53 and live in Tennessee. I’m short so they just graze my knees and for me they’re more modest than shorts and so comfortable with the elastic waistband in the back. For me they’re ladylike without being fancy or trendy. They’re my go to for house and running around to do stuff. I also buy a size bigger than I require for extra comfort and allowing for shrinkage in the washer. I’m one to always fool with moving my waist buttons around to make them looser if I gain a few pounds and tighter if I loose a few. Menopause the bloat and body fat is always shifting. 🙄 but skirts with sewed in buttons like the Lee Rider skorts are my go to in mid age
I wear long full skirts working as a a CNA in a nursing home. They are very comfortable and the residents like them.
I have been wearing skirts and dresses since I was in my early twenties and I'm 68 now. 😊 The reason is after becoming a Christian, I had the blessing of hearing some preachers back then and then seeking the LORD about this...He made me realize it 's what He wants a woman to do. Modesty is the reason and not wearing men's apparel. A modest skirt or dress seems to provoke the men to be more respectful. God bless you for talking about this.
When I wear my skirts I move differently and am more mindful of what I do and how I act. I get compliments on my skirts. They were bought many years ago and they are a testament to being a woman. I also cover my head at the Traditional Catholic mass and that also tends my heart to being a woman and appreciate who God made me to be. I am happier now than I ever was before. I want to make more of my own clothes. I am learning how to weave fabric and have made a vest already. I knit socks and now am looking at making leggings for under the skirts I make. I also want to make underskirts for my woven skirt fabric. Making progress. Changing to be what God wants me to be as a woman. HAPPY!!!! Wear your skirts ladies! We are so valuable to God and we don't even know how much he loves us. He made us and knows us so much better than we know ourselves. Trust God. He always knows best!

I don't wear skirts all the time, just when I go to my church, which has a dress code for women to wear dresses or skirts. So, last Friday, before I went to church, I was climbing a ladder in the rain to clip a tarp over a large window that was leaking. It felt unsafe due to my shoes that I was wearing, not the skirt. So, I climbed down to go change my footwear to something with a tread. Got the tarp clipped up there, and went to church, wondering if the Lord was trying to tell me something. To give up pants is a big challenge, feels like.
But, maybe not that big a deal as I make it out to be. Now, I see your video and wonder if it's time to purge my closet again.

I love to wear skirts, hope to buy one from you eventually. I love the longer skirts and they are so comfortable. We raise Native American horses and chickens and we are retired dairy farmers so I have done a lot in skirts.
Skirts are more comfortable! I wear leggings underneath in Winter. They certainly are less restrictive than jeans and so much more lady-like.

If you had been condescending or preachy I would’ve immediately left this video but instead I stayed and watched it and it has me thinking which is better than completely going away from this video. So thanks for that, you made an impact. While I am not ready to commit 100% at this time I have made an effort to wear more skirts over the past couple of years in the summer. This video is fantastic! I would love to start wearing skirts. I think this is something I need to pray on and look for the answers. I remember growing up and seeing my mom and grandmothers wearing dresses all the time. They wore house dresses at home and had their proper about town dresses with white gloves and of course their proper dresses also with white gloves for church. Boy do I miss those days! I agree you are 100% correct I love my peasant skirts they are cool and comfortable I get compliments. My church has a dress code to dress modestly for both men and women. I have been wearing skirts for about 15/20 years. It all started with a 3 month challenge with my sister, who lived in another state. We agreed to wear skirts all the time for 3 months. I’ve never stopped wearing them. Like you, I found them to be easier to do things then wearing pants. Jeans, especially seemed very restricting after wearing only skirts. I do sew, and I have made myself some skirts, but I generally buy mine at second-hand stores. My preference is prairie skirts. I like the free flow and they look good on me. My sister still wears pants on occasion. She says it’s because she lives in a colder climate. I live in the southwest and it gets pretty hot here. I am a Hebrew. I believe in YHWH and I follow the teachings of Torah and of Yeshua, the Messiah. Modesty is very important to me. Have a great day. Shalom.
I love this! So how long would you say it took you to get used to doing your regular chores and things in the longer skirts? I cannot really remember but to me it seemed like most of it did not take that long. I still struggle with having to go up steep steps with my arms full, but this is not something I do daily.
Rain Country I don’t really remember, but it seems like after about a week, it felt so natural that I didn’t think twice about it. Lol, I still get flack from my three daughters! They are so worldly, please pray for them. I love being female and I love dressing feminine. I’m 69 years old now, soon to be seventy. My grandmother was born in 1888. I never saw her in a pair of pants. She always wore a dress and a bonnet outside to work. She milked a cow, raised a garden, mended fences.
I’m not a homesteader, but I wear skirts ever single day. I’m a nurse and I have scrub skirts. On my days off, I wear denim skirts that stretch. When I flew as a flight attendant, I wore dresses & skirts only. I love them. I don’t miss pants. I’m grateful to have the choice between pants & skirts. I never feel constrained, due to skirts of modest lengths. I am a Christian, not why I wear skirts. I wear them because of health issues.
I would like to share a little bit of a history lesson. Back in biblical times, it was the women who wore pants and the men who wore dresses. However, the women NEVER wore tight pants. No, they were very loose pants (like palazzo pants) and they were worn with a long tunic top over it. The point is, modesty is not necessarily skirts vs pants. Rather it is a choice of how much skin you show and how much form you choose to accentuate. As a very modest woman, I either wear skirts or palazzo with tunics. I also cover my hair at all times and wear tzitzit tassels.

I am curious however, how you got the idea that in Biblical times men wore dress and women wore pants. I have seen scriptures describing men wearing breeches but have never seen scripture saying that women did.
@@RainCountryHomestead the breeches were not until much later and more European, than Middle Eastern. If you recall the various scriptures calling on the men to gird their loins in preparation for battle and understand what that means, you know that is the act of taking their loose garment (dress), tucking in the front and wrapping the back between the legs and securing it, in the front, with the belt. Doing this allows more freedom of motion for the battle. As for the women, this is something I learned as a Jewish woman. As a Messianic Karaite I am fortunate to know the best of both worlds. I do understand your skirt preferance. I too prefer them. However, climbing ladders in them is dangerous, so I switch over to the loose pants and loose tunic tops. It is wonderful to know of other, like minded women who understand the need and desire for modesty. Thank you for your many wonderful instructions. I love them.
I wear skirts all of the time myself. I sometimes wear pajamas at night and I usually put on sweat pants for physical therapy exercises for my knees, but the rest of the time I'm in a skirt. The Lord dealt in my heart about it many years ago and at that time I hated wearing skirts, but once I switched to them all the time, I realized how much more comfortable and practical they really are. Yes! Modesty is very important and I would love it if you would share the Scripture about that. I'm currently doing a word study on this very issue just for myself and would love if you would share! I'm physically not able to do as much now but I've mowed the yard, shoveled snow, and washed the car in a skirt, back when I was able to do all those things. I've recently learned to sew and make my own, just a very simple A line skirt, and yes, no ridiculously expensive fashion trend to worry about, can just be me! Thank you for sharing!

I've worn skirts/dresses most of 60 years. Back in the day, girls were required to wear them to school, etc. I just got used to it. I've done all kinds of things in skirts/dresses. I, too, find them cooler in the summer for working around our homestead. The only time skirts don't work so well is when I'm working my bees. So, I just stuff the skirt into the pants portion of the suit and carry on.
So comforting to know you're out there...I'm into the same stuff and love your videos. I even have hypothyroidism too and also treat it myself.

I was raised Pentecostal (specifically in the Hebrew Pentecostal movement, a mixture of Judaism and Christian Pentecostalism) and ladies all wore skirts. I'm not a Christian anymore (a homesteading witch now, of all things!) but our ladies back in the day drove tractors, worked fields, did literally everything in a long skirt,usually with a long apron and elbow length top, and floor length uncut hair or a head covering, depending on the person. It's definitely possible! All of this in the intense Mississippi heat. To be completely honest, it really wasn't as bad as some people think. We also would wear pajama pants around the house or to sleep in. I still dress this way even though I've left the faith.

I've worn skirts all my life. My parents taught modesty. I grew up on a farm. Wearing jeans without a skirt wasn't an option. Although I did wear my brothers jeans under my skirt to stack hay. I farmed along side my husband more than 40 years and never was in a situation where I wished I didn't have a skirt on. You learn to take an extra few seconds to make sure your skirt won't catch on something. When I was a a teen a group girls was hiking, we decided to climb down a steep almost cliff. The 1 girl with jeans on manged to rip them. She still talks and laughs about the day we climbed the cliff in our skirts and she ripped her jeans.

As I was sorting through the sheets low and behold I came across one white double bed flat sheet with wide eyelet trim. The first thing that came to mind was talking to you recently about making a skirt like yours. And here this video appears for me to watch. Talking about perfect timing!

I have a couple of sets of Greek 100% Cotton Linen Sheets & Duvet Covers that are trimmed with deep bands of Broiderie Anglaise that would lend themselves really well to this sort of skirt with the weight being perfect to give the swish needed to complement the style. They were expensive, heavy and when I got them home after shlepping the 2 sets I discovered the bottoms were unfinished and the length was bonkers! I think it was to accomodate different Countries Standard bed lengths allowing you to add either Velcro or Buttons or like me, stick in the airing cupboard and fugged-a-bah-dit lol
You are so very welcome. Heidi is the brilliant and clever one for using the bedding for her beautiful skirts. I give her all the credit. However, her creativity just opened the door for my mind to wonder and expand with new ideas so when I discovered the Eyelet or Broiderie Anglaise trim I was thrilled and excited about it. I hope you turn the expensive bedding into some awesome skirts. They will be beautiful I am sure. Please share some pictures for all to admire when you can. I just had another great idea. You can make some pantaloons using the border on the bottom of each leg. They would be so cute under the skirt! What do you think?
I wear skirts quite a bit. My only challenge is when I rollerskate. I want to be modest and I am when I am skating but I want to try and wear a skirt. I skate mostly outside on the the trails. Rollerskating is a very big part of my life at 57 years old and as long as God gives me peace with rollerskating then I will continue but I do want to set an example for Him. Gonna give it a go ! I love this video and I want one of those skirts!! I'd have to do a custom order though as I'm not even 5 feet so everything has to be cut in half pretty much to be floor length for me! ;-) I've personally worn skirts only for the last 6 years and before that had a period of 4 years where I wore them only. I've had people ask me if I'm in a cult or something but mostly everyone just comments on how pretty they are. I've climbed mountains, driven a tractor, swam in the ocean, and waded through knee deep snow in them. I'll never go back! Bless the Lord!
I'm 5'1" and the struggle is real.....
I know this is an older video, but I work with horses. And I can't ride well anymore. So I do a lot of work on the ground with them. I teach driving, liberty work, farm work, and some tricks. I have jeans. But I live in Alabama and it gets sooooo hot down here. Wearing skirts is great. It's so much cooler and I have no problems wearing skirts. And I'm a Christian, but my faith doesn't care how you mainly dress. I love long skirts and I actually feel more feminine with long skirts. My husband loves me in them as well. But your skirts are beautiful and I've been upcycling old jeans into skirts because they don't ripe easy when I'm working with my equine. But your patchwork ones are really inspiring me to try to make one. And modest styles are so much more attractive to me then wearing a lot less.
I always found skirts the most comfortable clothing. Cozy, warm in winter and cool and free flowing in the spring summer. A full longer skirt is protective of my legs which are easily scratched and irritated by chores done in or outside, I have very sensitive skin. At times i cannot bear the weight or the roughness from jeans or pants. I think it is a great challenge. I was a seamstress for years among other things so I appreciate your skill in being to look away while sewing. I often sewed by feel more than vision! Nicked a few fingers too! Ha ha
That last part made me smile! Thank you for this and I agree, I have found my skin to be so much more sensitive at my age (I am sure it is because of the change) so skirts are SO much more comfortable!
I have found that skirts and dresses are often more comfortable and cooler than pants or shorts. One caution for people who work with machinery, if you are going to wear a full long skirt or dress people used to have techniques and use to know to take precautions not to get caught up or injured. Might want to get used to wearing them a bit before using heavy machinery in them to be on the safe side.
I do a lot of apparel , I up-cycling jeans and love to make them into skirts ❣️
When I did a search for boho layered skirts your channel popped up and I have been binge-watching your videos ever since!! I am in a 👨🦼wheelchair which makes it very difficult pulling pants on and off, so much easier with skirts. My son found me a $450 brand new Singer 🪡sewing machine at the local pawn shop for $💯, now I'm saving up for a card table so I can use it to make lots and lots of skirts 👗 (no skirt emojis) 🤗 Thank you for all your teaching videos, I have learned so much!!! I recently got some fabric to make more prairie skirts, even thought I don't think they are particularly flattering on my body type -- but I'm working on that too, and modesty does come first. I've been trying...when it's so cold and muddy I sometimes slip on some sweats to go out and feed animals...but I'm getting better....cause I'm being convicted as well😉
Yes deep snow and mud is a problem. With pants, you can tuck the legs in the boots. I am thinking maybe the skirt over warm pants and bring the skirt up and tie it somehow, where it wont fall down? But honestly, when gets to 2 degrees (like it did this year) I need my insulated carhart overalls. I just do. Especially when we had a deep snow and could not get up the drive and had to walk nearly a half mile in the snow to get down to the truck and then walk back up. My skirt would have been soaking wet. Maybe not wear it, just carry it and then put it back one once I got to the tuck? Then hope we don't get off in a ditch and have to get out and walk again? lol I guess where there is a will there is a way.......
LindyTN - I knew a lady in Maine that used to put her overalls over her skirts & when she got where she was going would slip them off in her vehicle. Then slide them back on when headed back out. Even rigged a shower curtain inside that she attached with sticky Velcro and would pull across windows while climbing in & out of the overalls. Not suggesting you should do that just letting you know of an option. Another would wear a slitted riding skirt underneath her other 1. Hike up the fancy 1 with a sling thingy and was still covered.
Love your message. I've been a knicker girl (just below the knee) on the farm-kind of a split skirt feel...never have liked jeans...that I pick up at the thrift store. But I love to wear skirts and change when I go out in public...though I fess I have some nicer pairs for public in the summer. I love your message on modesty and I need to revisit what you are saying. I seriously considered it on my own and from a Biblical perspective a few years back, but didn't take the plunge 100%. I've done days of skirts all day, but not every day. Thank you for the video. I know it was a few years back, but it is new to me and enjoyed your chat and exploring your site. Just a side note, I do not believe God frowns on a lady wearing pants in a modest and feminine way. My mom wore pants all the time but always wore lovely long tunic style tops with hers. I simply find skirts for me to be the most modest, most feminine AND the most comfortable all at the same time :)

For many years I wore jumpers/skirts and then for many, many years wore a cape dress as required by my church. I must say I have seen many women who can wear skirts tight with form fitting sweaters and I have seen cape dresses made of slinky clingy material that looks very immodest.
I would just caution all to work from the inside first. Also, I hope some women don't sew can find some store bought options. Sometimes draw string pants and elastic waste pants that are loose fitting are very modest too. I might add that none of these options are anything my husband would ever wear.( meaning they don't pertain to the man)
Cape dress for me too. I have to say, I like the dress better than a skirt. And I would put in that the head covering is also Biblical and I have found similarly practical. Aprons are also really, really, useful for protecting your clithing.
I love the fact you have come to this. I came to this stand years ago. I found I prefer a split skirt. It is also long. I worked delivering mail for over 15 years. I love wearing them. I one thing I have not solved, is how to stay warm during cold weather. Thank you for addressing this. More people need to examine this issue. God bless you and your family.

Here's a tip if you need it a little shorter if on a ladder or difficult task, i have grabbed at the sides and tuck up into waistband or wear a belt or ribbon around the waist for material to be tucked into and then you don't alter your beautiful skirts! Hope this helped as an alternative temporary solution.

I wear skirts all the time and do anything I want to do in them with no problem. I have a garden and chickens. I do my gardening in long, full skirts as well as cleaning out the chicken coop.
I am overweight and now only wear dresses and skirts, It is more comfortable. And I prefer longer ones. Don't have to worry when I sit or if the wind blows. I live in Canada, so winters are COLD. I find that a long skirt with a petticoat could be warmer than pants in winter. It keeps more air under, for insulation.
I sure wish I had you for a neighbor lol. The kind of personality I need to be around and hard to find.

I have worn long dresses for years. There are multiple reasons. Of course, there are the reasons that you do. I also have fibromyalgia and contact dermatitis. The fewer things touching my body the better. So my dresses are 'sacks'. Another is that they are easy to sew. I make them all myself. I hem around the neck. I sew up the sides. I hem the bottom. I'm done. I usually use a fabric with no pattern. I'm plain. I used to live among the Amish and felt totally at home. I also like to live as they did in 1800. And I do EVERYTHING in a dress. Well, except swim. And flowing dresses are definitely cooler in the desert heat.
Spot on Heidi. I still wear my jeans, and below the knee shorts, modest tops. I am feeling the need to wear skirts now though. When I do wear dresses or skirts, they generally are 6-7" above my ankles (a little lower than mid calf). I'm thinking maybe going and trying skirts on, and see what style works best for me, then buying a pattern. I haven't really sewed in years, so I'm hoping it's like riding a bike. I have been wearing skirts only for 8 years. You totally get use to it. I wear a variety of them and it is so normal to me now to throw on a skirt. YES! MODESTY. Praise GOD to hear you say that too! So, I just found your video on coming off Thyroid medications. Then this video popped up and I found out you are a Christian too! Then, I seen you are a skirt wearer also. AWESOME. Changing to skirts was one of the best things I ever did for in my walk with the Lord but also for the sake of being able to escape being a "fashion victim" which is what I call those that are slaves to fashion, always worried about having the right clothes to fit in with the culture. SO much freedom not having to worry about that! Plus, they are comfy and and can still get my work done :D
I love these video series. I also believe that young men can also be immodest with the clothes they choose, and how they act. Modesty is so much more than the clothes we choose to wear (lipstick on a pig type thing).
Yep, even the Bible addresses modesty for men. Even shorts that reveal the thigh is nakedness

You are so right skirts are 100 times more comfortable than bluejeans.ever since I've been a young young girl probably three or four years old. I was old enough to say what I wanted to ware full long skirts. once in a while I wear a pair of pants but 95% of my life is in a skirt. I'm with you hundred percent skirts are wonderful. I farm in my skirt everything from canning to mucking stalls.too me it is not a problem in the least. and I make my own to just as you do. your skirt video is beautiful have a blessed day
