After watching this review, I have listened to this album 3 times.
This was the first time I have ever listened to this band, and I absolutely love this album. It rocks!
I will be checking out their entire discography now.

Blayne. Thanks for the review. I love darkthrone and I know you do too. Honesty I guess is the best policy. It authenticates the analysis here. For me I think it’s a great album. Give it a few more listens. You never know it might grow. Horns ablaze. 🤘🏻

I remember getting a Black Sabbath vibe from it throughout. I kinda liked how they changed it up over the years and it was interesting to hear singing on it. I didn't think it was that bad to be honest.

  • @49TheWall
    @49TheWall Před 3 měsíci +24

Funny how you agree with a lot of the analysis and come to a very different conclusion. To me this is their best in years. The singles were awesome, the closer is great and there are cool riffs on a few other songs too. The production is perfect for the style of music. Still, I wish they would put in more effort, be more creative and daring. Finally, some more quality control would be nice, as a few songs are just meh... A 7/10 in my Darkthrone loving book

Is the expectation for Darkthrone to make a really good album to high of a standard at this point in there career they are gonna do what they want there best is in the past we need to expect that and not complain about it just enjoy what you like and let them do what they will.

I've been listening to this record throughout the past week, and I'm pretty much in the exact same position as Blayne here. I also enjoyed their last two records immensely and also got super hyped by Black Dawn Affiliation. And, you guessed it, I also felt underwhelmed by this one. The opening track is indeed a very weak song, and the rest of the record just fails to build momentum and live up to the hype. Weirdly, I actually can see how some people are way into this record, as it is a very stripped down and, at the same time, very weird and non-compromising record, which is what Darkthrone has always stood for, musically. But I didn't feel it at all.

Great riffs, really cool atmosphere in parts, there's not really anything I can complain about. 100% agree with you dude. Every track has something I like, but basically every track has more stuff that's boring. Also the vocals are so low effort and they're mixed terribly. And I know lyrics don't really matter, but my GOD, just go back to singing in Norwegian guys. This is pure word salad nonsense.... sometimes the songs seem like riff salad, which makes some of these songs feel empty and pointless. It's weird.

It's the first album where they collaborated on all songs & thus the publishing goes to Darkthrone. I love this album! Blayne is in the minority with his opinion. All respect to him as a fellow Canadian & metalhead, but I dislike all of his alternate picks for years going by when he doesn't like an album more popular. It seems like a shtick with him. Goes with the job, I suppose. Still, I liked that Banger did a review at all. That being said, you guys (Sam!) should really get some people from outside Toronto, & from the rest of Canada, to work on your show.

Doesn't mean that I'm not going to dig what they do on it personally. Especially since I just don't think this one is all that much different from the previous 2 albums; and I liked those.

They're a big name so it's expected they get the attention. I do agree though, I don't think they released anything that interesting for a while aside from the odd song on each album

…it is a difficult to categorise or even review album because it does contain epic riffs and vocal parts but some parts are just boring and kind of lame well it is a DT experimental album after all.

This has pretty much gotten negative reviews right across the board. I already bought it because, well, it's Darkthrone. Maybe it's a grower.

It really hasn't. I watched a lot of reviews before this one, and this was the first bad review I've watched. Even the Metacritic score is respectable

It's an incredibly personal album. Hell, Fenriz dedicated it to Darkthrone fans. If you're not really INTO the band, their history, and their influences, you most likely won't get what's so epic about it. I can personally vouch for its epicness, however. It's like a trip to another planet for me. They're on a whole different metal dimension. Again, what I'm saying is too personal to make sense to most people; I get that, and I don't give a sh-t; I don't think Darkthrone care that someone like you doesn't dig the album, either.

I thought this was a joke at first and I was so down for that.

I don't think Giles and Ted care if anyone likes their albums or not. They just write and record for the sake of doing so and then go back to their day jobs.

I have to be honest and say ibe been pretty unwhelmed with the direction theyve taken. Mid tempo. Not enough across the album yo keep me interested. Slow, lacking punch
