"Everything in the UNSC is a glass cannon but just pretends its not"
I think you broke the Halo franchise more then Halo 5 did
Which was already a war crime. Does this mean Eck broke the Geneva convention?
He didn't really break it so much as reveal just how badly the Covenant caught the Human race with its pants down. The UNSC prior to First Contact with the Covenant only had insurrectionists to worry about. Insofar as I can tell, the UNSC hadn't really delt with any major fleet conflicts and the Covenant were the first major threat they delt with. Prior to that, the main goal of a ship would've been to carry needed military supplies and help with the UNSC's war of attrition against rebel colonies by feeding troops, weapons, ground vehicles; basically being mobile bases. This is probably why most UNSC ships seen in Halo have such high amounts of resources on board. So much so that the UNSC Pillar of Autumn had enough troops, weapons, and vehicles to wage a ground war against the Covenant on Installation 04. However, the UNSC really was ill-equipped to deal with a superior force. I don't think the UNSC really would've had time to adapt to such a sudden onslaught of enemies. The Covenant had superior numbers and superior ships. UNSC battle-doctrine wouldn't have enough time or resources to change quick enough and the sudden onslaught basically meant that the UNSC mobilized everything it had whether it was suitable for those missions or not. Humanity was truly desperate.
@SpacePotato no no, try Expanse MCR. they would be unstoppable

Well it gets the job done I suppose.
The most expensive portion of most UNSC ships was the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine. The design is good, but I'd include at least a few point-defense weapons, because they're cheap and just so that the Covenant can't destroy them so easily with strike craft.
I'd be inclined to include a detachable operation sections (one for command, engineering and maintenance etc) that can serve as life boats, or have life boats very close to these sections for morale purposes (and trained, experienced crew are valuable too).
@@wongyide7036 or have the main ship be a small lightly armed escape boat with a translight drive, and add a massive detachable mac with a few small point defense guns to provide a distraction while the crew escapes in the mini ship
i can see the use of destroyers, frigates or even corvettes to take care of small craft that aproaches the vessel
Could make the whole ship a drone and control it from a nearby carrier
I'd change this radically. A core ship armed with as many defensive systems as we can fit, and drives. The core is armored as much as possible.
The ship's core is basically an armored block with reactors, drives, and close defenses.
Giving this credence is a series of MACs on autonomous attachments. This allows you to fire on and engage targets with a continuous barrage of death, while being as much replaceable as possible.
I'd name the ship "Salamis" , it fits with the UNSC naming system (ex. Marathon), plus in the battle the Greeks used Triremes which were also small bare-bones ships.
DB 2310
Pepperonis-class heavy cruiser
Prosciutto-class light frigate
Pastrami-class starfighter
Gouda-class heavy frigate
The UNSC really didn’t have a naming convention (they had a ships named “Walk of Shame”, Two for Flinching”, etc, it’s actually not even my class).
And while I do love that name, it’s not quite the best historically.
The Greeks tried to get more than one different ships called “Salamis” during the 20th century (and maybe late 19th). All were for some reason cancelled, the most famous one a battlecruiser stopped by the start of WW1
@@simioneitor1975 stop it your making me hungry lol

Ah Halo, where we can talk about a skyscraper sized gun being low power XD
While still being on the weaker spectrum of Sci-Fi Tech and weaponry.
Well MACs are pretty powerful, I like to think that kinetic weapons are better than energy weapons.
but in Halo Reach the player used a MAC Cannon at the finale mission to destroy a CCS (I think it was a CCS ), he shot in the weak spot of the ship but still, it was a small MAC and yet it could destroy a 2000km ship. imagine what a MAC of a Frigate can do.

Except it can it uses a FTL drive like the rest of both covenant and United Nations Space Command starships.
Yep. MAC, engines, and an AI. They can run autonomously, and hunt in packs.
I was thinking the same thing or better yet pair the mack drive with spare ftl engines or reactors use the Mac to fire it while an ai remotely activates the ftl right before impact
Have a disposable ftl-less version that can dsploy by detatching from ships.
Means you can have ship to retreat and some to hold the lone woth better cost benifit
@@EclipiticalShenanigans that's a cool idea: timed right, you could literally tear a hole in space around your target, making the target's defenses irrelevant
Say hello to the Hayha-class MAC cruiser, named after the Finnish sniper of Winter War fame.
That is perfect and the best name I've seen in these comments.
Häyhä not hayha but yeah.
Smart, great name
Eck, the way MAC guns work is you create a magnetic field that can accelerate the projectile a massive amount. Its similar to a railgun but different, and a longer barrel means that with the same amount of power the projectile can be faster and have more energy and thus do more damage, so you were entirely right that increasing the barrel length will increase the power of the weapon.
Surely the issue with that is that if you're using an electromagnet (assuming you don't have access to some super large permanent magnet, which would be impractical in construction) to maintain acceleration, you'd need a similar coil density along the extended length, which would increase resistance and thus reduce power, so to maintain the same power of gun, you'd need a larger reactor. It would make the gun far more accurate though. Plus the longer it is, the more energy you need to overcome the eddy currents (a secondary magnetic field generated in the projectile) that would slow down projectile speed
To add: it’s basic physics, you increase the projectile energy by either increasing the force applied to it, or you apply the force over a larger distance. A MAC applies magnetic force over the entire barrel length, so a longer barrel means you apply more energy to the projectile.
@@TheBloodyHanded Its a coil-gun so it uses a series of electromagnets, there are similar mass accelerators in Halo Books. I don't remember the name, but there was a book about the fall of Harvest, where they destroy an old covenant cruiser using a re purposed mass accelerator designed for launching cargo and waste into space, and it was described as being the same tech as the MAC's just not with as high of acceleration and speed, and it was described as a series of rings, so I was assuming that MAC guns use a series of electromagnets in order to reduce resistance. Also if they are arranged in a series you don't need to have the current going through all the electromagnets at once.
@@csmitty2917 oh ok, so the point on resistance isn't useful. You'd still need to increase power to mitigate eddy currents, as they increase wrt velocity. You would also need to have at least one set on for as long as the projectile is in the barrel, which with a longer barrel means more on time, but yeah you could then get a more Powerful projectile without increasing reactor size, so my bad. (the velocity increase wouldn't be proportional though, again cos eddy currents) the ship would be more vulnerable during an extended firing period, but I guess that's not really a problem for a sniper vessel.
@@csmitty2917 out of interest, have you ever heard of traveller? It's a rpg game a la d&d, but for sci-fi, and has the best ship design system I've ever seen. They've got a spinal railgun option similar to the Mac, and the really fun thing is that to minimise reactor space/to maximise gun power, everything else in the ship turns off while the gun fires, so the reactor can maximise power to the gun, which leads to some really fun things, like everyone in the ship going without oxygen recycling or artificial gravity while this fuck off big gun fires!
I would name it the "Sarrisae-class Mobile M.A.C. Platform". "Sarrisae" is inspired by the long, thin spears used by the ancient Greeks.
I like that Name, it suits it very well actually :)
I created my own rendition of a Sniper ship and was struggling for a name, but that's quite cool :)

@@FeinryelRavenclaw UNSC Ballista Class sounds good. Id say Onager Class but that's a kind of Mass Driver weapon on UNSC ships.

@@janossos8620 ballista or Trebuche is way better
> Lacks point defense
> Covenant carrier launches about a bazillion fighters
The point-blank stealth cruiser and Artemis battlecruiser would like to know your location
hi sook
A few things:
1. The science of the MAC should work out to be more effective the longer it is, although reaching a soft limit.
2. Being too specialized, especially without point defense at all, is, I feel, too risky to constantly employ it in a campaign. Having ships fill a point defense role does help, but still has a large risk of something hitting the capital ship
3. Having heavily armored ships up front could be an effective strategy, each other covering the others weaknesses
I think your third point is the key. UNSC doesn't need another glass canon. With the Mac and missile combination they can destroy everything de covenant can bring. The problem: they die even faster. So either they need just more ships or they need tanking ships. Like the punic class. So the frigates could destroy all the covenant without being destroyed.
And instead of creating his super glass canon they could "strip down" the frigates and build more of them and let carriers carry the troops. If you can't build a whole fleet of infinity's you should specialize.
how about the role of monitors ships during ww1 and some of 2
Utilizing lots of emergency thrusters could circumvent the need for point defence guns, but i think maybe two M910s along the MAC section would make it safer. Secondly a skeleton crew (maybe like 13 engineers, 3 officers, a huragok [that's more post war, so irrelevant, and many A.Is could make them more... expendable. Thirdly removing a hyperdrive and having them focused more on planetary defence and small escorting roles, or heck maybe even another ship to transport them would save on a lot of money. Fourthly, having large a large defensive fleet, consisting of battle groups consisting of about 3-4 snipers and a frigate for command or something with a light carrier mobilising the whole thing AND a forward defence group of a few heavy frigates and destroyers would be lethal. i could imagine 4 MAC cannons firing on multiple covy ships at once would cripple most enemy ships. Fifth, due to their expendable nature and primarily being used for defence the navigational data onboard could be very limited due to the Cole Protocol.
I won't be surprised if Eck didn't upload his next video. He probably got abducted by ONI during his sleep, so that he could design all of the UNSC's future ships.

@@Bit01 The UNSC are idiots. But then again they are newbies to space warfare.
Edin743 I wouldn’t say they are idiots. If you lived in say, the 1600s, and you recovered an M16 or an Apache Helicopter, could you reverse engineer and then begin mass production in less than 20 years?
@@lastweekslasagna1699 Of course not! They wouldn't be able to re-create synthetic materials we have today. Much less figure out what is is. Most likely scenario would be that:

B - it gets scrapped for materials
C - people burn it in fire thinking it is magic or some kind of evil contraption
Edin743 that sounds like the UNSC to me!

I love the concept and the design. Yet i feel the need to object to removing all extra functions of this ship. I think the UNSC could find it in there budget to still add some pint defense, light armor, and a little cargo space. This would allow the ship to take on more flexible rolls if required and give it greater survivability to Covenant counter tactics and when in unideal situations. I believe this would be a cheap expense compared to the time and money need to producing such a valuable ship. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next videos! :)

Hey Eck! Love the concept! I'd make a few tweaks.
Class Name "Scorpion"
If my halo lore is sharp. I think the most expensive component of a UNSC Ship is their Slipspace Drive.
What I'd do is give these platforms electromagnetic docks....attach them to a central carrier/node ship like you suggested which DOES have a single slipspace drive to get all the guns to where they need to be. They arrive in the combat zone. Then detatch into fire teams of 2-3.
Considering we are going from 4 slipspace drives to 1. I'd use the savings to give them anti fighter and anti boarding party point defenses. It's a glaring weakness of the platform otherwise in my mind.
But yeah! This is a cool concept!
Designing an Effective UNSC Ship:
-Take the UNSC Infinity Design
-That's it
Halsey found Forerunner engines and had them slap them on to the Infinity. As to why the UNSC didn't slap on some plasma projectors as well, I have no idea. Plasma projections are fast and precise over a very long distance, much farther than anything the UNSC has. Using those in addition to their current arsenal would make the ship even that much more unstoppable. Having Four, Two on each side, would make the Infinity a one ship fleet.
Maybe 1 of the Main Plasma Weapons they use to Glass and 4-10 of the Plasma beams used at 0:41
but infinity is expensive
@@MCAroon09 Uncountably so, yes.
Jacob Devaney plasma is strong against armor (humans) but weak against shield (all the other know enemies they ever will encounter) the covant had little armor on a ship but loads of shield, infintys macs just shoot through almost everything, its really plain simpel why you would choose macs instead of energy projecters.
I'm sure the 12 souls don't think they are disposable.
Humanity!
Given how many UNSC threw, 12 souls are enough
12 people? That'd be a great time.
It would still need to be structurally strong enough to survive the rounds it fires.
That is a good point
Yeah but even if it was it wouldn't last long. it would always need repairs and stuff.
macs have no recoil, they're coil guns, so the round is never even in contact with the barrel, it's suspended completely in magnetic fields
@Omnibad Firing any projectile with mass will generate recoil, powder or not.
I mean, ODPs are skeletonish as well.
I think the best way to handle these new ships, would be to put them far away in Dead Space. Upon some position being attacked, for them to jump into the outer edge of the battle, at a fairly still distant point, and behind firing from a distance.
Always focusing on flanking, or catching enemies off guard. Possibly increasing it's jump abilities, so that if it is approached by enemy units, it could always sit, ready to jump.

That could be cheap mass produced sniper ships that would give great long range defense.
I doubt it. Some crew will be needed for the bare minimum repairs, spare parts, medical personnel/ facilities. Security details to protect said crew. Backup personnel in all areas. These ships will fall apart if the covenant revert to using fighter bombers to disable them at range. Then you gotta add armor and protection etc. You get the idea.
@@jonumine6250 Even then they have to actually get the supplies to the damaged vessel and repair it. Which will be difficult in of itself, under fire. However if their able to keep the fighters away it could be a somewhat good strategy.
Tom McDaniel71 no it wouldnt be cheap the mac and the slipspace drive are the most costly things, not giving them armor is like having the USS gerald fort float in russian waters without any missle defense or escorts.
Tom McDaniel71 dude theres no longe range defense, if the covant cant hit you, they just jump next to you, they were over arrogant (since they could) and without them humans would have taken 100 of years before trying to make the same jumps. Look into the source infromation.
+Tom McDaniel71 what? speak english
From what i understood was that the most expensive part of a ship was the slip space drive. Having a bunch of cheap ships equipped with one would be a big waste, but not having anything would severely limit their operation range and utility. I would think that having the hub ship basically be a giant carrier for these ships to allow them slip space to get to the fight and then processing power for the actual fight would be the best combination in my opinion.

I'd recommend the addition of advanced radar technology so that the ship has an early warning system if any enemies get too close, just in case there aren't any hub ships available. As far as names go, I think the vessel should have a name that references Simo Hayha (AKA, White Death), a Finnish sniper who had an insanely high kill count.
You could call it the Häyhä-class, after Simo Häyhä.
I second this
I third this... As soon as I heard the design it seemed fitting that it be named after our Lord, savior, and Soviet exterminator... Simo Häyhä.
The covvies would literally never see it coming. Ever. Also, replace the dumb AI with one tiny Finnish guy aiming by sight.
Yes
The reason that UNSC ships go up close is because they have a "kill zone" this is due to the fact that even the super Mac at the Battle of Reach was not able to immediately shred them. Even if you have probes it won't be of any use because probes are used to detect slip space anomalies and there are already probe stations in between different planets that would detect the slip space anomalies before the hubs will. Back to the MAC kill zone, if you make them too far away when they stay back they will be of no use as the covenant can dodge them with ease. If you argue to put them closer than they will not be able to perform the "live to fight another day" procedure that you wanted them to do. Effectively making your new ship less useful then the multi purpose frigates, carriers, and destroyers. It can't do what refit stations can do to block the incoming shots due to the small design that you proposed to save money. I think that your idea is a good one but it has some flaws.
Amazing design, love this kind of content, not that the rest of yours isn't top notch. I think I'd name your ship the Stiletto Class
Does that mean the hub ship is the Nexus class?
Are they going to be made at Jupiter? And if the Covenant attacked that base, would it be the Jupiter Incident?
... I'll see myself out
The Artimis is already a super-heavy mobile mac and your sinper ship would need a lot of energy
to damage or disable covenant shields and it is why ODPs have a generator on the ground because a fusion reactor can't power that much energy and they can't build a over sized generator on a ODP, so the ship needs a
mobile support ship to power it and smaller ships don't have a limited mac range
Vs matchup
Brute or Brute chieftain from Halo vs A Predator from the Predator franchise. With 2 rounds First round unarmed and unarmored. Second round fully armed and armored
What about a Sangheli Silent Shadow. There one of the most skilled warriors in the entire covenant and some are specifically spartan hunters.
This ship a good idea but is flawed at the same time.
A big issue I have with this is that the AIs wherein a short supply, it was common for ships to not even have one despite all of them being designed to be equipped by one. As well, it is possible that an AI could not handle the control of an entire ship, Cortana had issues competing with a (far less advanced) covenant AI during Operation First Strike. To the point where the AI was able to send out a distress call to the rest of their fleet, although she was held back due to holding large amounts of information from the Halo ring. As well, the Covenant are capable of in systems jumps whereas the UNSC is unable to move in the same manner, meaning that a smaller corvet would be able to make an in-system jump behind the UNSC fleet and melt the ships. As well the Covenant is more than willing to throw away large amounts of ships to target long-range MAC systems like during the Fall of Reach, although, this is based on the combat in the book which is in questionable cannon.
I think it could work well with some changes though.
I think a lot of this can be fixed by using the Hub ship as a 360-degree missile and gun platform that can protect the other ships from any Convenient forces that might pop up behind them. As well, an enlargement of the crew with cutting back on the actual quality of the living standards on the ship to save space would be cheaper and more efficient than allocating a super expensive smart AI that will need to be replaced every 7 years.
Roses are red
Of the iceberg, this is just the tip
Here Eck presents to us
How to design an effective UNSC capital ship
Ehhhh I don't think it be as effective as it would seem.
@Insidious Until they start using their MACs.
@@rulingmoss5599 Yes but you also have to think about the logistics. What about the repair crew, facilities, supplies, equipment, etc ? What about the medical crew to make sure that the other guys are ok, and their needs ? What about the security details to keep everyone safe ?
Then you have to think of the covenant response, how easily these vessels can be circumvented, like merely sending fighter and bombers ahead to engage and destroy these warships. Hell they don't even have to do that all they have to do is to damage the Mac cannon itself and the vessel is no longer combat effective, at least till repairs are made.
@Insidious
Valid points but if one considers these vessels as part of a larger battle fleet with the proper support of multiple other ship types the utility of a ship such as the "Pilum Class Destroyer" becomes more relevant provided that the fleet composition is sound.
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but a team of specialists is the master of all.
@@tridentrex0576 Yes but, it's not a bad idea to have a slight degree of flexibility in your navy. Especially in a war that you're loosing as badly as the human covenant war. You'll loose certain warships that will be integral to the combat effectiveness of your units, but placing a few destroyers and fighters around it for defence wouldn't be a bad idea.
A few things that make this an ineffective design
1. UNSC ships require armour and point defence to combat covenant fighters (they still use plasma based energy) and could easily disable this ship.
2. The Cole protocol requires crew to be present to destroy any sensitive materials and manually operate self destruct.
3. Covenant ships can exit slip space with pinpoint accuracy so grouping glass cannons would be a bad idea.
4. Covenant ships can dodge mac rounds depending on range and velocity.
5. It was mentioned in Reach (the game) that the Shaw-Fujikawa drive is the most expensive part of the ship so by removing armour it doesn't really save that much on resources.
6. Smart AI are rare in the halo universe and it would be to unsafe to have a control ship sending coordinates to retreat in the middle of a battle (See Cole protocol).
As far as i can tell from the halo ship designs and lore the newer line of ships are armoured to prevent a chain reaction from other ammunition and to protect the MAC, reactor and Shaw-Fujikawa drive, from glancing shots and fighters the ships are also bulky so that if a ship is hit and plasma is burning through the ship they can evacuate air from that area and slow or stop the plasma from burning (common tactic used in the halo books).
while i agree that they should have designed ships to work with fewer crew not every ship has a smart AI and most calculations and operations are done by people. a better option would be to have more ships designed to carry troops but this is also inefficient due to the long travel times of the slip space drives (the sole reason for cryo pods), by the time the ground soldiers get to the planet they would be to late to be of any use.
wait
if some people call the MAC the MAC cannon
they are saying the Magnetically accelerated cannon cannon?
Yup. It's DC comics all over again.
I just say MAC because of that lmao.
In the games they get referred to as MAC Guns, not much better there. It's the rule of cool, MAC Cannon just makes it sound better than just saying MAC
You see, the MAC actually fires smaller MACs, each of which shoots a smaller MAC. Which is why it's so devastating.
I've played slot of Sins of the Prophets (a very well done Sins of a Solar Empire: rebellion mod), and this ship sounds quite similar to the Halberd class destroyer. However the Halberd was a more versatile ship while staying fairly cheap, using a combination of a capital ship class Mac cannon as well as a slew of Archer Missile Launchers. These were capable of fireing Falchion armor piercing missiles.
Is that... The Mother of Invention?
...hmmmm
Must be wondering why we’re here...
Mr. Vridiantoast mother of invention is pretty much a forward unto dawn
@@thesimulatorgamer3359 that’s because they’re both UNSC frigate-class ships. The Mother of Invention, the Forward Unto Dawn, the Savannah, and In Amber Clad are all basically the same ship design.
The size of the reactor is the limiting factor for Mac firepower. Also the armor is for the smaller covenant weapons, such as point lasers and starfighters
As much as I like this design concept, this would really be pretty bad. It parallels the old Battlecruiser design. The firepower to beat weaker enemies, while the speed to run away from stronger enemies. In reality this type just got outclass by other designs in the same role. The Battle of Jutland shown what happens to battlecruiser in a fight; they kept blowing up when faced against the enemy. That's forgetting the one point you made; the enemy can just exist slipspace close enough that the whole long range thing becomes pointless.
To put it bluntly, Glass Cannons didn't work out well in history.
I would call this an Apollo-class Cruiser. Just seems fitting for something that rains straight death from above, as if the Sun itself was falling.

Squad battle between Spartan 4s(Halo) vs Dark Trooper Mk3 (Star Wars)
TheWingland Spartans would win duh 🙄
um not even a match as spartan 4s can fight on par with spartan 2s and as such 1 would be enough to take out a squad of anything less then a jedi or sith.
MrEcoho I actually don’t think the Spartans could win. The Mk3 Dark Trooper had a extremely powerful exoskeletons, with rapid fire laser cannons, missiles, flamethrowers, jet packs, and extremely strong armor.
@@psyrus728
"The Mk3 Dark Trooper had a extremely powerful exoskeletons"
not at all lmfao. It has nothing even close to that of either Mjolnir or a spartan. a spartan without mjolnir armor could probably solo a squad.
"with rapid fire laser cannons"
fucking plasma, learn your lore.
"missiles, flamethrowers, jet packs, and extremely strong armor.
"
none of that matter, and their armor isn't that strong, like at all.
@@psyrus728 even if we take everything said about them at face value Spartans have two rather large advantages;
1. better armor, spartan 4s have very powerful personal shields which would pretty uch negate anything the dark troopers could use to attack them.
2. speed, spartans are on jedi levels of reaction and mobility meaning before the dark troopers could even really aim they would be dead and forgotten.
This reminds me of the obsolescence of the battleship in real world navies, replaced first by lighter crusiers and battlecruisers, then by aircraft carriers. It makes sense to focus on force projection when armor becomes less effective. If your cheap glass cannon can knock out more expensive material before getting scuttled, you've traded up in terms of time and effort, which is the real determinant in a prolonged war.
TLDR, don't give your knights thicker armor against guns, give them guns.

@@thorshammer7883 I suppose so. Who do you think would win ?
I think that the value of these ships is actually very important, not only to create distance with enemy ships, but also with large numbers of them, and slightly larger crews (ideally mostly officers), these kinds of ships actually change the game a little bit and allow for tactical maneuver and positioning to play a more present role in a fight, real smart design.

I really like the idea of the community designing ships that make sense in their setting, and overall this design makes perfect sense, a cheap mass productive ship that uses the minimum human and financial resources while still being affected
This ship would not be a good idea, it would be destroyed very easily even by UNSC standard.
Any covie ship would be able to one shot it even the the weaker ones.
Also, the Covenant can make jumps in solar sytems and would immediately destroy them.
I am pretty sure the most expensive part of a ship would be the FTL drive as the metal can be obtained from meteors so it would not be that expensive.
But his point is that it would be similar in cost to a Paris class, but with a much more powerful MAC which is the only weapon the UNSC had that reliably destroyed Covie ships. You wouldnt replace the entire fleet with these, but they would be a massive help to the larger cruisers because they have MACs almost as powerful as what the capships are carrying
Ships would still be one shotable unless a few dozen meters long armor is used which does not happen.
@@tommyspringer3693 The Autumn can take quite a few hits before going down.

Great video! Watching it made me think that Halo is one of the few ci-fi universes in which it makes sense that the ships have top down and front forward part. Because the Mac needs a front face and it has to be long. And even so it has guns for all directions, unlike star wars ships.

MACs look, (to me), like scaled up coil guns. As long as there're coils along the entire length of the barrel, muzzle velocity should be proportional to barrel length and current through the coil.
There would, of course, be diminishing returns as the projectile approaches the speed of light.
The electromagnetic science is pretty interesting IMHO.

I could see this "sniper ship" used as part of a battle group centered around the UNSC INFINITY. During combat, the snipers would hang back and provide focused, powerful, highly accurate fire while the INFINITY would rush forward and brawl, while its deployable frigates would provide harassing fire and also engage enemy fighters/support ships.

How did the people of Coruscant react to The Empire's Victory at the Battle of Hoth
Hoth was actually kept secret as it wasn't really a victory.
They didn't, or if they did hear about it it was put across as a resounding victory, a good example of Imperial propaganda would be in the book "X-wing: Wedges gamble" when they are on coruscant and are looking at the imperial museum about Endor, that one is put out as if the Rebals had the Deth Star and the Emperor sacrificed himself to blow it up.

Nikki Jane I swear they must’ve used some halo ships to inspire that design cause I always thought they looked similar to Paris Class Frigates. The big front mounted gun is also a giveaway too
Excellent video Eck. I too have wondered what the UNSC could have done better with the tech they had.
For instance, they could have used a non-energy based “shield” tech. Large portions or retrofitted armor could be made to detach from the main hull. These armor sections would have would have thrusters and the ship-board AI could position these sections between the ship and Covenant plasma torpedos, guided by magnetic fields. The Covenant made great use of these torpedos, and the fact they aren’t a continuous energy beam would give the armor section a chance to stop a single plasma torpedo.
Would it have a slipspace drive or would they be system defense ships? There's your cost issue right there.
If they could be carried, towed or even assembled slapdash by your standard UNSC capital ships and thereby save on a slipspace drive... I'd say you got a stew goin'
Isn't it in Reach where Col. Holland (or was it Noble One?) mentions the slipspace drive is the "single most expensive piece of hardware produced by man"? (may be misquoting)
Ships without SFTE can follow a ship in Slipspace with the Slipspace wake, so installing FTL drives is not needed
I believe the Sins of the Prophets mod ship, the Artemis class battlecruiser, fits this ship design idea pretty well as a designated mobile super-mac, wolf-pack tactic, long range glass cannon style ship. The Artemis, however, still uses missiles, crew quarters, etc to a certain, albeit lesser, extent compared to being completely devoid of them as you'd suggest. The Artemis is of course non-canon unfortunately.
Hay man! I think that you should make a How to defeat the Flood video.
Nice video btw

Well first we build a ring...
Star fighters could just be AI ran drones, or you could even use remote control as today.
It would also be a cool idea if the unsc could use combat droids to replace marines as well. You could have a marine NCO with a whole squad of combat droids if need be. Presumably in the 2500s AI and robotics would have progressed much farther than today.
Eckheart-Class Skeleton Cruiser
Or
Eckheart-Class Mobile MAC Unit.
Edit: or Low Operation Tactical MAC Unit or LOTMACU caise of the UNSC's habit if long abbreviated names.
The hub ship is a good idea. Not only could it be used to more efficiently coordinate fire between the sniper ships, but it could also act as a small carrier to launch fighters and make up for the lack of any point defence systems on the sniper ships
Shout out to Rooster Teeth Productions the "Mother of Invention".
psychomrw they just use the mac to kill fighters
In reach they said it was actually the space drive was the most expensive part known to man.
It could be that the UNSC are actually having to make the very most of every drive they have. Meaning the could not dedicate a drive purely to a Mac.
UNSC Achilles-class cruiser seems to be an apt designation
Great vid, Justin! Thanks very much indeed. Especially useful to me at the moment as I'm in the process of designing a new UNSC ship.
The longer the vessel, the longer the mac round stays in the barrel. As we are talking about a magnetically accelerated projectile, the longer that the projectile stays in the barrel the faster it will go. Ergo, the longer the ship, the more kinetic energy placed into the round. Hence a longer ship will have a more powerful mac.
*When CZcams plays two ads before this video instead of one*
Me: Wait. This is beyond illegal.
The fact that seemingly no other scifi-universes have giant coilgun/railgun spaceships when the concept is so simple, logical and destructive is truly baffling to me.
Nonetheless, very cool design Eck. Stuff like this is where your ways of thinking really shine.
Make the area where the crew is a detachable ONI Prowler
That would defeat the purpose of saving on costs (A. because you would have 2 slipspace drives, and B. because prowlers are just stupid expensive because of all the stealth tech), and making them disposable. And if they were made in the numbers needed that would be an insane amount of prowlers; ONI doesn't have that manpower. And you would need ONI operatives to operate the ships, when they're meant to work behind the scenes. Going back the stealth tech point, it's no much use if the enemy sees you detach from a ship they've just launched a volley of plasma at.
I believe in universe, the most expensive part of the ship is the slipstream drive.

@@chocchip4172 Turn off your damn caps lock you fucking heretard
This is impractical. Historically the guns and engines of battleships are the most expensive and time consuming to build, hull and armor are the cheapest part of a battleship. There were many occasions during the dreadnought era where hulls are finished but the guns we're a year or two behind schedule. I'd imagine a Mac gun would have a similar situation.
CCS-class cruiser vs King Ghidorah (2019)
Godzilla Boi I don’t think any organic being can take that kind of fire power
The flaw I see with this is that is that it may cost more in the long run to specialize than to keep with multi-role ships. For every one of these you build instead of a Marathon class, you also need to build a dedicated fighter carrier, a transport vessel, etc in order to fulfill the roles that you lost by choosing to build a flying MAC. The main thing I think UNSC ships have going for them is their versatility. They can go head to head against other ships, they can launch fighter support, they can support men on the ground and they can move vast amounts of supplies. Building specialized ships to do all of that would be an even bigger resource drain.
Khaden Allast is it any worse watching the specialized glass cannon, the carrier and the transports get destroyed separately? It’s the fundamental question of how they would handle the ships doctrinally. All things told, I think the UNSC has the right idea consolidating the roles into one ship that holds its own despite technological inferiority. Sure, when a Marathon gets destroyed, you lose a carrier, gunship and transport, but I can guaranty it is leagues harder to take down a Marathon than it would be to pick off an unarmored mobile weapons platform, an unarmed transport and a carrier that lacks any offensive or defensive capabilities beyond its fighters. Plus, when you lose a Marathon, you’re losing one set of engines, one reactor, etc. When you lose the transport, carrier and weapons platform, you lose three (granted, smaller) engines and reactors. By consolidating into one ship, you won’t need to invest as much into the systems each ship would need.
