  • Whats up fam!? Today ill be showing y’all how to build a tungsten sharpener using a stainless steel straw. Its a lil tricky using it at first but just play with it and you’ll get the hang of it. Remember to use a Dewalt grinding disk and i recommend using a 1/4 disk to sharpen the tungsten.

Never sharpen/grind tungsten electrodes across the length. Always sharpen/grind on the long axis. Tig welding 101

i’ve heard that’s only a really big deal with AC for aluminum and stuff. for direct current i’ve never had any problem with grinding tungstens like this.

@chronicsalt2735 yeah but scientist do studies n shit. I agree it doesn't matter for 90% of applications especially if you're just a hobbyist. That said, if you use a high grit (10-80) you can see the arc trying to come out of the fatter parts of your bevel. 500 grit is my recommendation if you really don't wanna move hand the three inches lmao

I must have got something wrong. I ordered the torch from your link and 1/8th tungsten. The tungsten is too big. I also ordered the gas lens kit and it doesn't fit the torch. I guess I need to research a little more because none of this stuff fits together. The torch seems cheap too. Came with already broken o-rings. Can you recommend a better set up? I'm more interested in proper reliable tools than I am sticking to a budget. Thanks

Perpendicular grinding on tungsten affects the sine wave, I think that's what it's called. Anyway, it messes with the weld. You have to grind in same direction as the tungsten

And now you have horizontal grind marks on your tungsten which will most likely cause a wandering arc and your weld will be shite, that's why when you're taught how to sharpen a tungsten CORRECTLY you keep the grinding vertical
