This is the Teaser Trailer, and my reaction to it, for the 2019 Warner Bros Picture, JOKER. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role, as well as Robert DeNiro and Zazie Beetz. The film is directed by Todd Phillips and follows the mysterious “Arthur’s” tragic decent into mental illness, culminating as the Clown Prince of Crime, JOKER.

Did anyone notice the confidence in his body language at the end of the trailer. His demeanor switched up in a scary way.

The staircase provides nice bookends to the trailer. He's sluggish as he walks up at the beginning, then literally dances down during his descent.
Yeah. An entirely different person. He's amazing.
Arthur ascends depressed and descends ecstatic. It’s a descent nonetheless

I loved how he was trying to fake the smiles.. But at the end.. He did smile as if he found his true self

I'm sick of superhero genre movies, but this trailer gave me goosebumps. That shot at the end.... wow.
The real problem is superhero movies that have to be cinematic universes. That's the issue. Never again will we have movies like the first Batman and Superman movies if the stupid cinematic universe phase doesn't die out.
Can they give Oscars for trailers? Best actor in a trailer and best trailer hands down.

1 thing is for sure, Joaquin is gonna bring it. DC has Screwed up too much in their franchises except for Nolan's Batman. This definitely looks promising.

That was definitely Bruce. The guy on the TV was Thomas Wayne. I think the cop was Bullock, but not sure.
that guy on the train was the same actor in Dark Knight. it's one of Gordon's men.
I got chills watching this. So much going on in this trailer. Fallout from society, depression, psychosis. Essentially it's a character study. It's awesome Joaquin is playing this role such an amazing actor!!! I want to see this now 😂. Thank you for the review!

I never imagined ever sympathising with the Joker!
Joker is WILD. I believe this is set in the 1980's, but it looks and feels like a 70's film. Like Taxi driver. I know Scorsese was once a producer on the film. It has his vibe on it. I don't want another trailer. Just can't wait for October to get here.

To me this film perfectly combines the comic book look from 1989 Batman and the gritty real world application of 2008 Dark Knight
I love the transformation of a beaten down depressed moping dude walking up the stairs in the beginning ... the the confident af dude in a suit walking down the hall and then down the stairs at the end. Shows the progression of his character. this is gonna be fun
When I saw this I had the same feelings you described. It was so visceral and beautiful. I have tremendous confidence in Pheonix as an actor. I can't fucking wait!!! Also subbed 😁

Hey man I really appreciate your reaction to the trailer, you're one of the few who really reacted almost exactly like me, I mean even from the beginning when you reacted to the subtle smile I knew you were in the same level as I was about it, LOL.
This movie has a strong "Taxi Driver" vibe, in a very good way. Joaquin Phoenix is on point, just the way he works with his body is amazing. Just how he walks at the beginning and in the end, two completely different persons. I know this is just a teaser, we need to wait and watcht he whole movie, but this looks GREAT.
He got something over Heaths performance for me completely. The walk and the run. It's fucking perfect. Heath played hunched over. Joaquin is playing this standing upright. I don't know why but that makes so much of a difference. The walk and the run are amazing. I know it's a small thing but it means something.

That was little Bruce Wayne the Joker put the smile on. This is similar to Nolan's take for Batman in his trilogy, in which there could be multiple people taking on the role of Batman. This Joker started the "Joker" as we know it, every other Joker after his demise is another incarnation as Bruce/Batman age. Hence the designs of the Joker evolving over the years and him staying relatively ageless while Bruce and the Bat family grow older. You can easily see how people from Gotham would follow in the Joker's footsteps.
It might be the first time in film history that two different actors get an Oscar for playing the same character. Though in different categories...but still amazing.
I enjoyed your reaction. Let's talk about the sign he holds up near the beginning of the trailer. It could have said, "50% off" or "Big sale today!" but it says, "Everything Must Go!" The specific language of his sign early on is basically another version of the Joker's nihilistic mantra.
according to my interpretation when he is going upstairs in the beginning of the trailer he looks very depress, sad, feeling the weight of his suffering. at the end when he goes downstairs he is transformed to a new villain against a society that didn't treat him right.

Do we need a new Joker again? This question was probably asked by many when the Origin Story by Todd Phillips was announced. But Joaquin Phoenix erases all doubts in the first trailer. I predict an Oscar Nomination Best Actor in a leading Role.
I honestly believe this is going to be a social commentary on bullying and mental illnesses. And it looks like I'll be done in an amazing psychological thriller way.
