  • QUICK VIEW OF THIS VIDEO:
In this two part series we demonstrate how to build a brick BBQ or Braai as South Africans call it :-) And despite the weather, we fought bravely...almost throwing in the towel. But come rain or shine, we get the job done!
We kick off with the concrete foundations, some of which got flooded thanks to the monsoon-type rainfall we had! We pushed through it and managed to get building despite the weather. Part 1 focuses on the Brick Braai (BBQ) build, whilst Part 2 showcases the Wooden Pergola build. Not only did the weather challenge us, but so did the rocky landscape...making footings a joy to dig...NOT.
We pushed through and managed to poor the foundations, in between a stop-start due to the rain. We knocked out the entire build in 3 days...now that's a mean feat...still not sure how we did it. But we hope you love the end result.

What type of brick do I need and how many bricks would I need?

Hi Thabiso, the brick is called a red travertine semi-facebrick. The quantity depends on the size Braai (bbq) that you’d like to build. Send us your dimensions and we can advise you better

Hi there, if I build a braai, do I need to have it included in the house plans?

Check with your local building council for regulations in your area. Generally a good idea as the structure can be larger than 2.0 meters high and could hold up a potential future property sale if not on the plans.
