Oh man, as soon as I read the title, I knew I had to click. I would LOVE to see a new 3D Zelda game take place outside of Hyrule. It would be an absolute field day for theorists, lol.

A new land or kingdom would be great to see, but even revisiting somewhere like Labrynna and Holodrum could be fun since we haven’t seen them in 3D.

What I think would be fun for a Tears follow up would be another try at a sailing game. Put Link and Zelda on a large ship and have them explore an archipelago. Lots of various islands, underwater exploration and even ship to ship combat. This would also showcase the power of the new generation console.
Open water is the next step obviously
Yea would be cool if the next map is a mix of water and land. Seems like a no brainer fun exploration game they could make that would be very different than what we recently played. Or they could have a crazy time travel game. I would take either or both.
Agreed especially after the lack of water exploration in BOTW and TOTK, I'd love to see revamped sailing and ship combat mechanics and more interesting Islands

one thing i hope they improve upon from tears is putting stuff in cool areas. stuff like the areas under the shrine of resurrection and akkala citadel in the depths
Agreed, actual lore in cool locations. Which is often the case in our real world.
Massive World building and a deep coherent narration to the storytelling is what Tears of the Kingdom lacks, and it would’ve open a potential for a playable Princess Zelda since the story is not only divided into two. But also explored two different time frames like how the Hero of Time transfers back and forth in Ocarina of Time.
I know this won’t be possible because the developers decision to canceled the DLC… but my hope for Nintendo Direct is to make an announcement of Tears of the Kingdom deluxe edition with the Master Mode, Kass’s Return, and a side story.
P.S: The Windwaker remastered version and the remake of ocarina of time is a need as well.
I can definitely see them making an Era of Tears story where Link and his friends travel to the homelands of Penn and Yona. However, I highly doubt it will be in a mainline game, but instead in a spin-off. Say a Xenoblade-style RPG for example.

🤔 I Can See More On Fierce Deity's Origin And How He Ended Up In Hyrule
This is what I've been saying since starting 'Tears of the Kingdom'. There are many hints in the game towards the outside world (Yona being a big part of this because she's from a domain outside of Hyrule). The next game can still follow the same Link and Zelda but in a brand new kingdom. Finishing TOTK I definitely got the impression that this was the last time we'd be in this version of Hyrule, but not necessarily that this was the ending of this chosen hero and princess. I could definitely see Link and Zelda travelling to another kingdom (maybe with Purah and other returning characters) for some treaty or something that'll be of benefit to Hyrule. This iteration of Zelda is very popular and maybe nintendo will want to continue with this version in a brand new way. I hope this is the case tbh, mainly due to this princess Zelda. I'd love for her to finally be playable and to have a full game dedicated to her and not just another bunch of memories and separation from Link. Can't Zelda be the star for once? Having her in another kingdom could possibly give an excuse to make her playable because she wouldn't be as well known in this other land like in her own.
Agreed, should have also brought up Penn and the fact that Kass might very well have been on a journey to a foreign land when the Upheaval happened.
Imagine it becomes like pokemon where theres two versions of the game sold, one where u start off as link or zelda. But same ending. Thatll be cool.
Exploring a fresh new land is what I wanted out of the depths and the sky islands. I kind of got it in the depth with the disorienting dark and inversion, but having something completely new would really make me happy. I wouldn't mind going back to Termina in the slightest, can you imagine the hijinks we could have gotten into if we could climb in that game?
I would like to see what the Zora’s Domain Yona is from looks like. To explore other regions outside of Hyrule that has similar races like the Hylians, Zoras, Goron, Rito and possibly Gerudo. But with different features.
An example of that would be Penn (who had features of a pelican which is much diverted then Hyrule’s Rito).

The biggest implications of a new land do NOT come from yona being a princess from another zora domain, Penn coming from another land or nyel being completely missing, but I think it comes from the simple fact that ganondorf was a conqueror, he wanted to rule not just the gerudo region and not even hyrule, he wanted to rule THE WORLD, that's why in botw, when you talked with goddess statues, at the end they told you to save hyrule, in totk they ask you to save the world, if link fails ganondorf would take control over the whole world (probably until something like a link to the past happens)
I think it would be amazing for the next zelds game to take place on a different land and personally I would love to see a reference to the era of the wild in some way

Damn, i finally picked up my sessions of TotK again(massive fan since OoT, must have played every console Zelda at least twice) after a long period of not caring much about Zelda or "flat" gaming in general at all. I've been bitten by the VR-bug really good and all i play these days is PSVR 1 and 2.(i "finished" Skyrim VR in that thing and it was AMAZING, fun to see how much TotK and Skyrim actually have in common) Zelda for sure still holds a special place in my heart, and i had the true meaning of that statement cemented in my brain once again in the last two days of playing TotK. Really curious where the series will go after TotK, your vid comes right in time in that regard. There is nothing like Zelda in the videogame realm, the world/visual/gameplay design is still as stellar as ever. I just had to be reminded of that again, tnx Commonwealth! Your vids are so laid-back and relaxed!

A new land and characters is definently what we need. Some of my favourite Zelda games were the ones set outside of Hyrule. There's so much you can do and can be introduced in those games.
I hope they bring spirit tracks and/or phantom hourglass into the new Zelda game. I would love to see the new version of the spirit train or the boat that link used to travel the seas in phantom hourglass in an open world style like breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom. If that's possible.
I would love to see a reimagined Termina expanded on.
Since Fujibayashi & Aonuma decided to move on from the Wild era, my hope is the next Zelda game have a much better established Link x Zelda relationship since these two have such a great chemistry as well done in both BOTW/TOTK & Skyward Sword. Don’t care what anyone or producer Eiji Aonuma or anyone has to say.
I would not be opposed. I know the Golden Goddesses started creation in Hyrule, but I refuse te believe it's the center of the universe. There has to be MORE on the planet than just Hyrule. Like the Oracke games showed.
Another game in termina with a focus on masks but with the newer controls and openworld styel would be a dream come true. The abilities of different masks to help yoi navigate the terain could be so cool
Link exploring a new kingdom would be the perfect opportunity to return to a dark or creepy setting while still keeping it, suitably Zelda. Something like Elden Ring meets A Link to the Past's Dark World or Majora's Mask. Maybe Link gets sent a land that doesn't have a hero of its own and as a result that land's Triforce became corrupt, so Link has to find a way to purify it while trying to survive. They could even go the Mario Odyssey route and have multiple different kingdoms, like Link visiting an ancient roman setting or feudal Japan or ancient Egypt.
Dreaming for a new game! I love the current open world games, but so excited for a new direction. Give me a partner again. Give me a gain, beat the enymy. A new sad, a new glad. Here's hoping!
I've always said the Zelda games where Link is in a foreign land (MM, the Oracle series, PH, LA, etc) always stand out from your traditional Hyrule game.
Don't get me wrong I love Hyrule, but we are long overdue for a new continent with its own culture, character, villains, etc.

A creepy setting would be amazing for sure. Something dark and brutal as twilight princess but also creepy like majora's mask.
If Holy Power flows through Hyrule via the Dragon Veins, then perhaps outside lands can be affected by the influence of those who exert control over the Triforce. Ganondorf seems to hijack some of the vein's energy in TOTK, so perhaps with the Triforce of Power he can project Malice into those lands. We know that in Twilight Princess, Ganondorf's wish isn't just to cast Hyrule into darkness, but the entire world. With the entire Triforce in hand, he could pose a credible threat.
I would love a Zelda game like in what happens in the twilight princess manga. Link starts to get to comfortable with the master swords power and becomes insane and ends ups not being worthy of it anymore. Then he gets back to his senses and gets it back
What if link went off in search of the missing triforce. They start off the next game with something disastrous happening and we need to go find the triforce to reverse what happened

The next game will be a Twilight princess sequel. Game will start with Link finding the mirror of Twilight and being transported into the Twilight realm.

I both bought & played BOTW & TOTK each more than 100 hours. I know that TOTK improved so many quality of life BOTW plus add a new world with a new mechanics. But at core it's still the same. That's why I'm so happy if next open world Zelda in other world ❤❤❤
They could have Link travel to other worlds and do a crossover game between Zelda and other Fantasy setting Nintendo franchises. Such as Golden Sun, Mysterious Murasame Castle, For the Frog the Bell Tolls, Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus.
It would be nice and refreshing to see somewhere new I'm always curious of what's going on in other Kingdoms because it's so rare that we do get to see other locations, but the only thing I badly want to see is a return to Classic Dungeons, the rest the game can be open air but we don't need Dungeons to be open air too, the Shrines aren't and neither was the Lightning Temple so I think it's okay to bring them back as they used to be in an Open Air game.
Honestly that's why BOTW and TOTK aren't my favorites in the series and instead A Link Between Worlds is my favorite because it's open but keeps the fun Dungeons we need that kind of thing in a 3D Zelda
Back when there was a home system and a handheld system we would get top down and 3D Zelda games.
I truly think there's room and the need for both. As much as I love Breath and Tears I would love a story rich and lore heavy game that can be completed in 24 and 100% in under 50. Let the top down fill that need.
A brand new land would be amazing. I still kinda think that a game blending the three timelines into one would be good, maybe using different Links with different art styles, dimension swapping at common locations, like Death Mountain, Lake Hylia, etc.
But I don't think it's likely; it would require a lot of working around the timelines and lore, giving definitive answers to mysteries and perhaps even restricting future games by tying up the timelines where even more could potentially be explored.
I really enjoyed 'Link's Awakening' on Switch. (Minus the tilt shift blur effect). While I am a fan of any Zelda game, I very much welcome another top down Zelda game.

If 3D Zelda is going to be open world from now on (which is what Aonuma seems to want), I feel like you have to provide some kind of new map or continent to give the players something new to explore.
I’d like to see a game that takes place between Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess. Where it explains how the Hero of Time died.
Nintendo just confirmed they bring a remake of Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages to the Switch like they did for Links Awakening
The sense that I got from the way that the discussion about Breath, Tears, the DLC situation, and The Next Zelda Title progressed has led me to expect a totally new and different game, with a new Link and Zelda, a new Ganon/Ganondorf/Baddie, and probably a return to a more classical, linear gameplay experience. The sense that I have is that the "world" that they identified as having "done everything they can in" is properly defined as "the world and setting and story of *this* Link and Zelda" not something as limited as a patch of geography. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, as this Link and Zelda are far, far more developed characters than any other pair, and I love them dearly, but I do not expect Nintendo's follow-on Zelda titles to explore their story any further.
I love this incarnation of Link and Zelda but yes new lands new adventures
It doesn't have to be the same Hero of the Wild again, the setting can move to a different era, it can still tap much more into a sky world that would essentially act as a surface if enough ground is up there, there could be an actual alternate dimension, etc. A different place can work too but it can absolutely be Hyrule again, it's been called Hyrule before with a vastly different map. The Hyrule Fantasy is exactly about what you describe and each game is crafted to reinvent a setting for it, with the exception of TOTK but indeed the devs are ready to move on.
We know they hardly commit to continuity (who knows if they get bold with it though as a standalone to push a new console we shouldn't expect much), but for loose continuity all of that has equal potential, it just needs to be different and have references.
A game in New Hyrule from Spirit Tracks would be my dream, that or Hyrule in our modern times. I wonder if they’d like to stick to regular Hyrule in order to connect it more to the upcoming movie tho.
Termina is what everyone has hoped for in my opinion. Like the short time between ocarina & Majoras mask, I feel like that game should also involve the twilight realm, but we have yet to see the sacred realm in its full involvement in this franchise with these other realms. I feel like that'd be really good if they're gonna use the same link & him growing, he's already conquered hyrule twice, but where is the sacred realm & the final story of the triforce
I wonder. If they do that for the next 3d adventure or make that a standard for the smaller 2d adventures. Since the gameboy and DS Zelda’s are set somewhere else. Maybe they keep doing that if they feel Hyrule is a standard for the 3d chronicles. Because I felt like thats what they needed to do in Tears yet they surprised me and added onto it.

I think Aonuma said that they are done with the Era of Wild or something, so seeing a new Link in a Land that is not Hyrule might be kinda confusing for newcommers
Tbh, I wouldn't mind revisiting Hyrule, just create a completly new land mass terrain with different locations, new races, new npc's, etc. Just something different from what Botw and Totk have give us

I would love to see a continuation of one of the three timelines. Something new and different. I think its time to go back to basics when it comes to Zelda. As much as I love remakes, i think it would be much more interesting to see a game set after the events of the original legend of zelda games. or perhaps a story set after Four Swords Adventures. Even a sequel to Spirit Tracks would be fun. Zelda has so much left to explore. especially if they want to really connect BotW to all the timelines
Maybe we could go to Lorule again (and maybe other lands as well) but in open world. Would be a darker zelda game.
I really want a new map but I love the characters from Botw and TOTK, particularly link, Zelda and ma Boi Tulin so having those characters go out of Hyrule would be so good as we can continue their story but getting new stuff to explore
I want it to just barely connect to hyrule. Give us a desert in the east that let's you go just past gerudo town. I'm wanting to explore the lands west of hyrule

I doubt this will ever happen, but hear me out on this. Imagine if the Zelda team, together with Monolithsoft, made a Xenoblade-style RPG that had Link, Zelda, and their friends travel to the homelands of Yona and Penn. This way, we can have one more story in the era of tears. Perhaps in Penn’s homeland’s case, we find Kass.
Wherever the location is, a different era Hyrule with a different map, or a different part of the world entirely, I just want the new console to be powerful enough to deliver the huge open world but full of life.....NPCs and buildings and villages and towns everywhere....with far deeper RPG conversation elements in the game. NPCs with real character like they've had before, not bland and repetitive.
It better have a fishing area. 🎣

I still maintain that Zelda should be a companion in the next adventure. I was personally disappointed she wasn't in tears. We go through all that effort to rescue her in botw just to do it again.

Here is a thought.
Instead of Ganon/Ganondorf being the main conflict as he is often only in Hyrule.
Maybe Nintendo needs to take a page from China's 3 Kingdoms story and have Link and Zelda be stranded on a nearby mainland of a country that is in a 3 way civil war with it's own 3 or 4 different races.
I want an open world that isnt in hyrule and I want it in the wind waker art style. That would be the best zelda game to ever hit the market.
I mean I’m mostly uncomfortable with this idea because making a new setting typically means abandoning Hyrule altogether, and I love Hyrule. My favorite games are set in Hyrule and its various locations. The ideal experience for me would be to have a vast expansive Hyrule like in BOTW/TOTK but with even more explorable kingdoms/territories beyond Hyrule’s borders as well. Give me the best of BOTH.
Hopefully wherever Link goes, it will still be legal to barge into peoples' houses and break their pottery. Otherwise, he might run into problems even without Ganondorf around. XD

I would love an open world Zelda game in Termina. You can even keep the same Link and Zelda. They might even run into Master Kohga again!
If they really wanna change the formula, have the setting in an enitrely different world other than the places we already know (eg. Termina, Holodrum, Labrynna, Koholint Island, the Ocean - PH, and the Great Sea)
I know some people said Outer Space, that could be a possibily. But why not somewhere completely foreign with new races and new forces with unseen powers and magic like never before. Stuff away from the Hyrulean lore.
4-5 years seems unlikley unless the game is substantially smaller then totk, I expect more like 6-8 years assuming the game will be similarly big
Having a smaller, more compact, but more densely packed world is exactly what this franchise needs next.
I mean, I assume the only reason why TotK took as long as it did was because of covid, so maybe with a lesser amount of time they'll still be able to make a somewhat similar-sized game.
I'm pretty sure they were already working on the next zelda 2 or 3 years ago, so probably we will have the next one out in 3 or 4 years.
I also would really liked if they kept the current link and zelda (really like their designs and relationship currently) but put the setting somewhere else. Story could be that they are meeting with the leadership of a neighboring kingdom to negotiate trade e.g. and then something unexpected evil happened. That also would allow them to put new races or put a spin on recurring races which make things much more interesting. Best example is Majoras Mask with the Dekus and Ikana, imo.

at the end zelda doesn't turn back and you have to leave hyrule or follow the light dragon to find a way to turn her back. It would have been a bittersweet ending thats left for more adventures.
I would really like them to do a sequel to BotW/TotK, similar to the Oracle games, or Link's Awakening. Same Link, but different setting, different situations. Nothing that is direct, but then we at least know the Link we are playing.... I know I am unusual in that thinking...
I'd like it to, botw was a good entry to go back to Hyrule and Ganon. I'd like a new major 3D zelda to go to a completely new land.
They should make a 3rd Zelda game with new and improved abilities other than the ultra hand. More bosses and a boss who is more powerful than Ganondorf, himself. In fact, the one who is the reincarnation of Ganondorf. And also have a epic final battle with the last boss traveled back to the time more than 10000 years ago. And the ending with Link and Zelda returning back to their own time before the Calamity began.

Wild idea here. I think nintendo should make a zelda game like genshin impact. With the game getting new world regions every update and new content. If nintendo were to do this correctly it would become the best zelda game ever. Just imagine the release game takea place on hyrule then like 2-3 months later they release a new area it could be as far as termina, the spirit world, the upside down hyrule or simply an entire new kingdom we've never seen and then five months later they add skyloft then months later they add old hyrule from before windwaker .it would be a fever dream
I hate to say it, but we need a break from that map. We have been stuck in it for over 10 years at the point of the release of the next open air Zelda. Hyrule needs to rest to make a return to it in say 2033 the more impactful! :)
As a fellow Zelda creator I am extremely shocked.
I always thought that if they did do one more Wild Link and Zelda title it would have to be out of Hyrule and be the last of a trilogy of games. That’s of course if they do go that route

Hopefully Brand New Area means fully playable Zelda becomes an option.
They need more heavily intensive dungeons in the next one. And if they wanna build open world, have the exploration be more meaningful and give the player more 'reason to explore that area'. If they wanna do something different and add more story, give us a chance to play other characters to add to the narrative instead of blindly walking around trying to piece random tidbits to the story. That's more a chore instead of enjoying and engaging with the game. They need to learn how to balance traversal in the open world. There's no point aimlessly wandering around the world for 2 hours to get to the next destination. As the hero of the game, it doesn't feel like you're saving Hyrule. It's more like a vacation like wtf.
